The "Big Picture" can wait
Jeff Gordon says he doesn't care about points. Right. And I don't care about traffic numbers on ThatsRacin.com.
"I don't even care about the championship," Gordon maintained Sunday at Sonoma, where a 33rd-place finish put him even further behind points leader Greg Biffle and in greater danger of missing the Chase for the Championship this fall.
"All I care about is getting our stuff going and getting ourselves to be in races where were can put ourselves in contention to win."
That, naturally, would be the immediate concern.
But, as occasional blogging buddy Andy Shain points out, Gordon is not all that far out of it. A few good race days - for a change - and Gordon sneaks back into the top 10 and is racing for another championship.
Then, one would assume, the points and championship could again be found in the driver's "care" folder.

As usual when you only list part of the quote you usually mislead people...read the whole quote...
"I'm getting to the point where I don't care about points," said Gordon, who has finished better than 30th only once since Darlington on May 7 to drop from second in the standings. "I don't even care about the championship. All I care about is getting our stuff going and getting ourselves to be in races where were can put ourselves in contention to win. We've got a lot of other things to get straight before we can even think about a championship."
He clearly says he "IS GETTING TO THE POINT"...he is not saying he does not care about points...the team needs to get consistant...once they do that then they will start start worrying about the points and the championship...Quotes like that remind me of a certian driver who blew his chance for his 99th pole of the year :) and when he did he said they were not trying for the pole anyway...yeah right Ryan ;)

First of all Jeff G is not my number 1 racer, but I'm getting tired of the fan-atics who mimic their #1. Gordon doesn't whine, unless you consider when you listen to Dale, Jr whining. Or Kurt Busch whining, or Spencer, Waltrip etc etc. Tony Stewart is the type of person who reminds me of the ole time school bully (and I like Stewart's driving) who made fun of other kids branding them with names because he could get away with it. Gordon just says it like it is and because he's a winner, he's not liked. Reminds me of when a popular celebrity/politician is accused of doing something wrong and is found innocent the general public still believe he/she is guilty. But if they are found guilty and make a long meaningful speech, all is forgiven--because john Q public cannot stand someone doing something better then they and feel magnanimous in giving their "forgiveness." Look at the skills of the person, stop being jealous and greedy, get a life you people. Do some real worthwhile things in life, lose the jealousy. You are all the biggest whiners of them all.
I like all the drivers for their individual skills and yes sassiness. No Gordon, Johnson, Schrader, Martin, and others like them aren't smart mouthed like Stewart,Harvick,Spencer,Busch, etc., but they just say it like it is and do about their business. Take the hint.

I'm not a Gordon fan, but I think he's directly on point in this matter. Until he and his team put themselves into a position to win races again, they can't give any consideration to the points. If they can't improve in performance, they simply won't be in the Chase.
I guess we're all just so used to hearing Jeff whine, but in this case I don't think he is guilty as charged.

Oh I'm sure Jeff cares about the championship. Does "Drive for 5 in 05" ring any bells. I think he's trying to convince himself that it's not a big deal, kind of reverse psychology. If he tries to put it out of his mind, maybe it will magically fix itself...lol. I don't know, I just hope they get it together.
If he gets everything to a point where he's contending for races, chances are he'll make it back to the chase.

RC's suck for Nascar Cars and Drivers to begin with but I'm guessing Tony went with the proven transmission vice the experimentals. Nascar makes these rules (Gears/tires/spoiler etc.) and then puts the drivers on this type of a course and you have to produce...so you take chances. I would look for some motivated drivers who don't make the chase to liven things up towards the end. I'd hope so because this season is dull dull dull!!!

Jeff Gordon does care about points and championship, he was just whining because he tore up another transmission on a road course, just like he did at WG last year. It looks like Tony Stewart is the new road course king.
