If your shop isn't on Papa Joe Hendrick Boulevard, it's over for you
If you had asked me going into Saturday night's Bank of America 500 how the Chase playoffs would play out, here's what I'd have told you: Johnson would run well at Charlotte, like he always does.
And, next week, at Martinsville, Jeff Gordon would run as well as he generally does there.
That would further separate the two Hendrick Motortsports drivers from the rest of the field and make the playoffs strictly a Hendrick show.
There are, at this writing, less than 30 laps to go and Gordon is leading at Lowe's Motor Speedway and Johnson is rallying from trouble. Oh, and trouble is about all the rest of the Chasers - except for Clint Bowyer - have had.
I still say it's a Hendrick show from here on out.
Anyone want to bet against that?

It is foolish to say that the 2008 Chase is over. After 5 Chase races last year, Jeff Burton was the points leader. In fact this is how the top 7 in the Chase were last year:
1. Burton
2. Kenseth (-45)
3. Harvick (-89)
4. Martin (-102)
5. Dale Jr. (-106)
6. Hamlin (-137)
7. JOHNSON (-146)
At the time, many people wanted to go ahead and name Burton the champion and Johnson was considered by many to have no chance. Well, after Homestead it was Johnson in 1st place and Burton was in 7th place:
1. Johnson
2. Kenseth (-56)
3. Hamlin (-68)
4. Harvick (-78)
5. Dale Jr. (-147)
6. Gordon (-219)
7. BURTON (-247)
Thus, Burton, the points leader after the first half of the Chase, lost 393 points to Johnson during the last 5 races. Thus, ANYTHING can happen during the next five races. (cut tire, blown engine, getting caught up in someone else's mess, etc)

The "Great NASCAR Chase"....IS OVER!
Quit wasting verbage, time and money on it. IT IS OVER....Finshed. 41 of the teams should spend the remainder of 2007 having some fun...tearing up some cars that won't ever be anything except museum pieces and trophies for select fans. Why waste team efforts, since many of the drivers are changing horses at the end of 2007. Teams can't really work on next year's development if they are running traditional cup cars. About all teams can do to the COT
is polish them. Ain't it a shame what has happened to our sport? Many of us are learning that life will go on without watching drivers whom we have never heard of or can in anyway relate to in our daily lives. This was the ingredient that made NASCAR what is WAS....that is gone! These guys can only bring family and a few corporate sponsors to the tracks...they will never produce a following the likes of Harry Gant...Richard Petty...Junior Johnsor or the Earnhardts. Racing was a way of life during the reign of these icons..IT IS OVER,
just like the NASCAR Chase.

So true Bob, this deal is all but done. I love the underdog so I am pulling for Bowyer until the end. The biggest reason is because the kid just doesn't get the credit he deserves. The TV folks are too busy talking about whether or not Tony can catch the Hendrick boys to realize what a great season Clint has had.

I too have changed my Nascar Tv addiction. I also did not attend the Bristol or Charlotte race this year. Didn't see any reason to travel so far for so little. I guess if I have gone, I could have seen all the cars, un like the Tv coverage, when only the Chase cars or a few chosen names are shown. I am a Stewart fan. Go Smoke..I believe he is out of the Chase as of now, so I say Drivers go home, give it to Gordon, and fans watch re-runs of Dale the movie or old Nascar re-runs.. A whole lot better than real Tv.. Bored Nascar fan

On the good side it confirms the season. In the real world Gordon/Johnson vie for this title. Bowyer, IMO, has excelled, but, it shouldn't have been his to contend for. Still, the kid is making a name The #24 or #48 aren't my cars, but they were the best cars all season. I think the TV varnish has worn off of the Chase.
LOL, I'll probably have other views to blog on this

Its been a Hendrick show for most of the season (and the last how many?). I don't even bother to watch any more. I've reduced my interest this website alone.
