Park wins
Steve Park won the truck race at California, making him the tenth driver to win in all three of NASCAR's top three series (Cup, Busch & Truck). The race itself, wasn't that exciting, at least not as exciting as the truck races go. It almost seemed like if the commentators talked about you, that you'd better watch out. They were talking about how well David Starr was doing and how he had the dominant truck and then he wrecked. Under the last caution of the race, everyone was wondering why Mike Bliss didn't pit, according to reports, they were only two laps short and a few more caution laps would help them make it to the finish, so they didn't want to give up first. Mike Bliss was filling in for Sprague who got hurt on Wednesday in an incident at home. Well, their calculations were a bit off, with six to go, Bliss ran out of fuel and that put Park in the lead with Hamilton trying to close in. Hamilton was never able to catch him and Park because the tenth driver to win in all three of NASCAR's top series. Ricky Craven finished third, Todd Kluever fourth and Musgrave finished fifth.

I love a good message thread!...I agree with both of you. Just remember its a message board and you're gonna get differing opinions and thats fine, just dont get all upset when someone disagrees with you. I do agree with Bill though, I think that there might be a little to much involvement of the Cup drivers in BGN. I didnt realize how many points they took away this weekend. And Bill, you're right, they do take a lot of money from less financially secure teams. I dont think that the attendence would drop 20%, although, Im sure a lot of people go to BGN races to see their favorite Cup driver. Its good to have some of the vets in the BGN races, but I think it should be restricted. I mean, do NHL players drop to the AHL? Or NBA go to the CBA? This is the only sport in which people do that, in ways its good, in ways its not. Overall though...my opinion is they shouldnt be allowed. If NASCAR thinks it would be too much of a money loss, then they need to make the series more exciting somehow. Take the restrictor plates off...lol...race in Mexico or something..yeah, that'll do it!!!

Bill,
You don't have to insult my intelligence and I have been a NASCAR fan for more than 20 years so don't try and say that I don't know about the situation. As far as I am concerned a comment here and comment there doesn't amount to anything in the grand scheme of things.

Never once claimed or insinuated that mine was the only opinion that matters, those are your words not mine.
What good does it do to discuss something in a place where everyone agrees with you? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of a good debate? Perhaps I should suggest to you that if you wish to live in some utopian world where everyone agrees on everything that you find that world and leave the real world to the rest of us.
You've never heard the Busch series drivers complain about it? Are you new to this? They've done lots of complaining about it but they have to be careful saying too much too loud because they hope to be playing on the cup boy's field someday. Get my point?
In case you just don't get my purpose in bring all this up, I'll explain it to you. My mention of this problem promted Kathy to put the suject right on the front page(so to speak) of this blog which is directly linked to Thatsracin.com, which in case you don't realize it is a very popular source of news and info for NASCAR.
The more it's talked about the more likely the right people just may begin to consider a change.
Do you get it now?
I understand that you would rather those who diagree with you be silenced but that's just not gonna happen with me.

Hey Bill,
Why do you seem to think that only your opinion matters? Kathy and Melli are entitled to share their own opinions without having another person attacking them for their opinions. If you don't like what they have to say why don't you go somewhere else and share your opinions. The Cup drivers are allowed by NASCAR rules to participate in the Busch races and I haven't heard too much complaints from the full time Busch drivers. I guess if you have such a problem with the Cup drivers competing in the Busch Races you can always petition NASCAR to change the rules and make it against the rules for Cup drivers to compete in the Busch races. Some how I serious doubt NASCAR will listen to your suggestion and change it.

Seems Melli(an obvious Martin fan) doesn't understand how one works their way up the "ladder" in NASCAR. The Busch Series is one step under Cup, inexperienced drivers "cut their teeth" at this and other lower series on their way to Cup. For the Cup guys to step down to drive in the Busch Series is like a pro football players joining a college football game from time to time.
If Melli would have read my commments carefully he/she would have found no demand, on my part, that they be bannned from Busch.
I would suggest the following:
(1)Since they say they do it for fun, they can race but get no winnings or points. If it's that much fun for them they can do it for free.
(2)Only five of them can make the race, no more, and they all have to start from the back no matter where they qualify. Hey if it's just for fun, what makes the difference where you start?
There were at least ten Buschwhackers in the race yesterday and since they made up six of the top ten at the finish they took home a lion's share of the purse and more than 1351 of the available points. Now I wish Melli would tell again me how that's fair? Oh that's right, I forgot, he/she is a Martin fan where it seems the ONLY place Martin can win is in the Busch series.

Kathy great blog as usual, and to the poster Bill ranting about the Buschwackers, if thats the way you feel about it then take the Cup boys out of Busch and you see the attendence drop by 20%.
And, if one the Busch boys wants to TRY and play with the big boys in CUP I say NO!!! Now, does that make sence??? Think about it.

Hey, try this for a change: Quit repeating the news we already know and discuss what's on the mind of REAL race fans like the fact that these Buschwhackers are invading the Busch series with their Daddy Warbucks funded teams winning all the races, taking points and money from teams who need them. Don't be afraid to step on NASCAR's toes, remember, YOUR car DOESN'T have to pass their tech inspection!

You're right Aloha and he put himself in the perfect position. Honestly I don't see how Bliss' team thought they could make it on fuel, too bad for them, but great for Park.

Congratulations to Steve Park and his team. OUTSTANDING. While the leader, Mike Bliss did run outta fuel, one is reminded of what Richard Petty said many years ago, "you have put yourself in the position to win." Way to go!!

Ahh, you make me jealous Kathy. Being based in the Philippines the only NASCAR events I see are the Cup races, and those are taped delayed about 6 hours.
All of which means I must hide from racing blogs and TV sports reports so watching the race isn't spoiled by knowing the winner.

It looks like Park found himself a series that he can drive in confidently since the accident. He made an unsuccessful attempt at returning to Cup cars and it didn't work.
