The Shootout
Last night's Bud Shootout was a surprisingly clean one, no wrecks, only a bit of bumping and a lot of slicing and dicing throughout the field. Jimmie Johnson came away with the victory, which really wasn't a surprise.
The surprises seem to come from cars that were expected to be strong in the race having troubles.
*Dale Earnhardt Jr. was a favorite for the race and even though they supposedly fixed the problem during the break after the first 20 laps, he was never really in contention to win it.
*Dale Jarrett, he was expected to be strong, but he also seemed to be having troubles.
*Jeff Gordon didn't seem to be as strong as everyone thought he would be, he went back and forth through the field and made a run at the end, but it was a little too late.
*Rusty was supposed to have a good car, they were happy with the drafting speeds and he was expected to do well, he was never a factor, I don't think he got up any further than 12th in the race.
*Ryan Newman finished a surprising second. Not that it's a surprise for him to do well, but on their green flag pit stop, they only took two tires when everyone else took four. I was trying to figure out what Borland was thinking, when the field catches up, they're going to freight train Newman, luckily for Newman he feel into 5th when the field caught up to him. I thought for sure that he would just fall back with the two tires and they would do him in, but to my astonishment, he kept up and even moved up, finishing 2nd.

Thank You NASCAR for.......the most boring Bud Shootout ever...... allowing Goodyear to field sub-standard tires..... practically herding the "little guys" out of the Chase. Other than that, I look forward to getting a good nap during the 500. (Stockcar fan since '68)

In response to Bill.. nothing is obvious in racing.. other than the fact that all the other teams are bringing the "A" game to DEI as far as restrictor plate racing.. but as we all know.. 30th on one lap can be 1st on the next... skill will prevail.. pretty obvious , huh?

Not quite certain why you made that comment Bill, but thanks for reading anyways.

You certainly are the "Master of the Obvious" aren't you?

I agree with your assessment of Harvick and RCR. I think Harvick will benefit from having Jeff Burton as a teammate.

We'll see, other cars were pretty fast in practice, ones that were not in the Shootout. If practice has any indication, I think you need to keep an eye out for Harvick, he was strong in practice and Childress has improved their restrictor plate performances.

The race was pretty much uneventful and if I do say ho hum. If any Hendrick team was to win I am glad it was Johnson and that other team. I am looking forward to the Daytona 500 when Dale Jr. will take is position in front of the field. Make no mistake he is still the man to beat and he will show it next Sunday.
