Once the rain cleared, it was a wreckfest
After being delayed for over three hours, the race turned into a wreckfest. Everyone seemed to be driving very aggressive, as if it was the last ten laps of the race. Some cars just got loose and caused wrecks and others tried to put their cars where they couldn't fit and caused wrecks. A record ten cautions flew for the race.
The "big one" or one of them, happened on lap 17 when Labonte and Mears got together and it got 16 cars caught up in that wreck, even the race winner Martin Truex Jr. Although Truex was caught in it, he had the least amount of damage and the crew was able ti fix it where it wouldn't hurt the car. By the end of the race, most of the cars (at least the ones still running) had some sort of damage on them. One wreck near the end of the race had Mears flip and slide several feet on the roof of the car, luckily he was OK.
Carl Edwards and Reed Sorenson both got caught up in the big 16 car wreck, both got their cars back out on the track, although laps down. Just when you thought Sorenson could gain some points on Edwards, something happens. Sorenson dropped to third in points, being passed by Clint Bowyer, while Edwards retains the lead. Truex moved up to fourth in points.
The truck race at Gateway was less eventful. Dominated by Ted Musgrave, who led all but two laps, when others decided to stay out to lead under cautions. Musgrave had not led a lap so far this season until last nights race. A couple late cautions gave Dennis Setzer a chance to catch Musgrave, but he couldn't do it. Musgrave also won an extra $10,000 for winning from the pole and took the points lead away from Bobby Hamilton. It was nice to see Musgrave not have the bad luck he's been plagued with lately when leading a race. With this win, Ultra Motorsports has tied Roush Racing with 36 wins in the series, both teams have been in the series since it began. Sixteen of those 36 wins by Ultra Motorsports has been from Ted Musgrave.

Jay, that Kerry Earnhardt even finished was a major miracle.

I was impressed with Kerry Earnhardt. His car looked just as fast as Truex. I wish he could have had some help. He seems to always get the short end of the stick.

Mears was caught in the middle of the start of that accident, Labonte came up and Yeley came down, not by much on either part, but when you have less then "much" room to work with, you have a wreck. Although I must say it was pretty good to see Nemechek take the blame for the second 'big one'.
