Chase Montgomery update - concussion
Chase Montgomery was treated for a concussion and released from Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital Friday night.
The injury happened during a wreck at Texas Motor Speedway when he hit the inside wall, went back up the track and hit the outside wall (drivers side) and then finally ended up coming to a rest in the middle of the track.
Not much had been said about the wreck and his condition since Friday night, I looked Saturday, Sunday and this morning to no avail. I finally emailed the PR agent for Montgomery and got a response, shortly after the response I found the update on TruckSeries.com about Montgomery.
In the recap, Montgomery said it was the hardest hit of his life. He said he had heard from others that it will hurt if you hit the wall at Texas and he found out firsthand that they were right.
His PR person said he goes back to the doctor on Tuesday, no elaboration other than that, but I'm sure it's probably for clearance to race since it was a concussion.
Hopefully he'll have better luck at Michigan.

You may want to report on a medical device now the subject of controversy in the NFL and military. in fact the medical advisor to the NFL has been removed because of his concussion policy.ESPN has raised the bar on the concussion issue. This device would be perfect for NASCAR.

Marty, the laws are so extreme about this that my new OBs weren't going to bother trying to get the records from my previous pregnancies until I insisted after explaining that I was high-risk. Then it took me 2 weeks of jumping through hoops to actually get them.
My DH is an EMT and he can't ask the hospital if a patient made it or not after he took care of the initial problem.
Its nuts, but its not Nascar's fault that they can't tell us anything.

I see your point MB, and my opinion is that it is unfortunate that people who care about a patient cannot find out about their well-being. I agree that maybe specifics don't need to be released, but at least an update as far as stable, critical, good condition, etc would be nice. This not only for sports stars, but family members as well. My wife and I were on pins-and -needles because my mother-in-law went to the emergency room, and we could not get any information until she was able to call us!

While Nascar certainly ought not to ignore the status of their lower series drivers people must remember that Nascar cannot release medical information without permission from the driver or his authorized representative. If they do they are in violation of federal medical privacy laws (aka all that extra paperwork you're filling out at the doctor's office and pharmacy now).

Thanks for the update. I do try to watch the trucks as well as busch series when I can. I didn't even know about Chase until I read your blog! I will try to see if there is any news on Speed channel.

Thank you so much for letting us know! It's unconscionable that NASCAR does not provide an official report. Hopefully Dr. Petty will clear Chase to race if he's healthy (and make him heal up properly if he's not!!!).
Thanks again.
