NASCAR's Race for the Chase heating up
It should be pretty interesting to see what the outcome of the points battle for the Chase will show. With just four races left to either make it or not, there are some hoping to stay hanging in the top-ten and there are others hoping to make it in.
The way I see it, the top four are pretty much safely in, barring problems for consecutive weeks for third and fourth. Fifth place Mark Martin should be safe as long as he stays consistent and doesn't have any problems.
Ninety-nine points separate sixth through tenth and and seventy points separate tenth through fourteenth, so the points within the Chase and out of it, could easily be shaken up in just one race.
Newman, McMurray and Edwards are trying to hang in the top-ten, one bad race and they could be on the outside looking in. Sadler, Jarrett, Gordon and Harvick are on the outside looking in, but any of them could make it in the top-ten in just one race. Carl Edwards is sitting in tenth and right now, he's the one that everyone on the outside is looking to do better than.
We might not see that much of a shakeup at Michigan this weekend, but we could see a big shakeup the following weekend at Bristol. Two of the drivers on the outside that want to make it in are known for bumping and pushing out of their way on the track (Gordon and Harvick), that's something I'm sure we'll see as we get closer to Richmond.
No matter how you look at it, we won't know the full Chase lineup until after Richmond.

10 points and a pole award for 19Jay12! Junior Johnson it is. (Or at least Jay and I have seen the same stats and assume they're right.)

You're already hearing about the "two seasons" that some teams are planning. While some teams are fighting for every inch, others are holding their best cards (or cars) for the Chase. this year you will see more stategy than before. Should make it intresting to watch, unless you are a die hard for the driver in 11th or worse. I especially can't wait for about four chasers to get stuck behind someone like Kyle Petty having a good day. The whining will make TrackPass radio worth every penny.

He is living up his nickname my family called him during a race "Baby Busch"

This is off the point, but I had to post it. Following is a comment made by another driver about Kyle Busch on thatsracin.com:
((Also Tuesday, Cup rookie Kyle Busch was fined $10,000 and placed on probation through Dec. 31 for hitting the car of Anthony Lazzaro on the cool-down lap of Sunday's Cup race.
"The punk crashed me on the cool-down lap. It just shows me this guy never built or worked on a car," Lazzaro said of Busch.
"We don't go out and try to wreck other people's equipment."))
I've been given a bad rap for being critical of Kyle. I called him a spoiled, egotistical brat. I guess at least one driver agrees with me.

Junior Johnson has 50 wins and no championship. I think he tops the list.
This year's champion will have at least 5 wins.

Someone has more than Martin with no cup?

Alan Kulwicki might have had just one win when he took the title, although he might have had two. I know Benny Parsons took the cup with one win.
And what driver has the most career wins without a championship? (Long retired)

A quick glance at NASCAR's past champions all the way back to 1949, the champion has won at least one race, the most recent with just one win was Matt Kenseth.

As of now there are 5 potential "Chase" drivers without a victory. Has Nascar ever had a winless champion? Maybe they should scrap the top 10 or within 400pts and make it top 10 or a win.

I agree with most of your post, but being a Dale Jr. fan you can't completely discount his chances of sneaking into the Top 10. I know the likelihood is slim but I will hold out hope just like I'm sure Matt Kenseth fans feel the same way about Matt's chances.
