Edwards wins, moves to third in the Chase
Carl Edwards got himself another win and with the bad luck that Biffle had, Edwards moved into third in points, just 77 points behind Tony Stewart.
Without some bad luck by Stewart and Johnson, I think Edwards is too far back to capture the title with just two races to go. It'll be between Stewart and Johnson, with Stewart in control of the outcome. One slip by Stewart in the final two races and a good run by Johnson could easily cost Stewart the lead, but I don't really think that'll happen, Stewart has been pretty consistent and does well at the final tracks.

Split screen.
When ESPN get the NASCAR deal we will see a lot of this. If their coverage is consistant with what they do with IRL - we also won't have to miss anything due to commercials. We'll see how it goes. They really do an incredible job with their IRL coverage whether you like that series or not.

I was not complaining about the through the field segment. I was just pointing out to Jason that NBC covered more than just the "Chasers". I enjoy the NBC coverage but would Allen Beswick back in the booth w/ Wally and BP. My momma told me that if I did not have anything good to say about something then to say nothing at all. I will implement that advice regarding the Fox half of the season.

19Jay12,
I think it's in a fans nature to provide the best possible resolution to a perceived(in his/her mind)inconsistancy. It's just our nature ;-)

When FOX is doing the races, people bitch about FOX, when NBC is doing the races, they bitch about NBC, I'm just glad someone is showing them, a lot of things they do irritate me, but I'm not going to stop watching. I mean come on, how many times do we have to go to the Home Depot garage to see what loose, and or tight is? Well I guess at least once a race, this is for the new fans who may be watching. Hell they know we all know what it is, but we are already hooked, they are going after the new fans. I guess we need 43 different Ch's showing the race, so each of us can see our driver all race long. Or maybe he just needs to get his ass up front where the coverage is.

Canucken,
The race was pretty enjoyable. I just don't see the need to go thru cars 1-43 in a linear fashion. IMO if the coverage was perfect we'd see snippets of all the drivers and not miss any up front drivers or racing. Losing maybe a few of those "Trouble in turn 3 car in the wall" deals while were plodding thru the field in turn one on car 43. I know they pay pit reporters some bucks and they need their turn at the mic. I think they should space it.

I think the thru the field segment is genius. Why wouldn't you want to hear about what the drivers 1-25 are talking about and how their cars are handling. If my driver was running 12th on FOX, you wouldn't hear much about him, but NBC you know why he is running in 12th and how they plan to make the car better. Fans will find something wrong with any TV broadcast. Me, I just enjoy racing. It's not like either FOx or NBC is unbearable.

I don't get race fans. They not happy when the back field isn't getting covered, they're not happy when they are. Wah, wah, f@$#*! wah! What the hell do you people want? NBC does the through the field segment to give each driver some screen time for their respective fans and an update on what their car is doing. As far as Mikey goes, he gets plenty of airtime for an also ran. Why does he get as much time as he does? I like the guy but c'mon, Carl Edwards has as many wins in his first season as Mike does in his ENTIRE career! Why can't you guys just enjoy the race. It's impossible to cover 43 cars fairly and to be honest many of the cars really don't warrant any coverage. Does Jimmy Spencer really deserve coverage in a car that is just a field filler? If we're going to watch the best drivers and if that's what we expect to be out there then we could definitely cut more of the coverage out. There's guys trying to qualify each week that I haven't even heard of before.

Todd,
I agree..."Thru the Field" was getting more annoying than the commercials.
Posted by: Keith | Nov 9, 2005 5:17:40 PM
Jason
Mikey seems to get air time at least once per race, when he wrecks or when his engine lets go...(just trying to be funny, poor mikey sure seems to have the worse luck)
As far as Commericals, seems like NAPA is getting as much play out of their Jr/Mikey ads as they can before next year, some are pretty funny, but they sure are getting old

Jason,
Where you watching the race on NBC? I saw a minimum of three times, it may have been four, "Through the Field" to at least 25 place.
It if were not for the chase you would have only been hearing about Stewart and JJ as Cup contenders then the race leaders. In this case it was 4 of 5 of Roush drivers and Casey Mears. They would have also followed the Newman starting shotgun story whether he was a chaser or not. Doesn't Mikey get enough face time on Speed Channel and in commercials?

i cant wait til feb. this chase crap bores me and not just cause waltrip aint in it,but cause i'm tired of hearing about the top 10 every week.
33 other drivers has sponsors and fans and those fans wanna hear more about their driver.
the only time we hear about them is when they wreck or blow up.
the champion is gonna be a driver who whined atleast once in the chase cause either lead lap cars was in the way or they get scraped by a car going into a turn.
the guys in the chase want everything handed to them except for rusty, mayfield, and newman the others just whined their asses off.

Understatement of the Year:
"Tony has been pretty consistent."
19 top 10 finishes in 21 starts is "pretty consistent"?

Watching Biffle race back to 20th is why I love going to the track. You can't see all of that on NBC.
Stewart finished 9th with right-side damage from that little bump agains the 6 car, basically making an aero adjustment on the track.
Tony's second NASCAR championship is two weeks away.

Right now Stewart finished 9th on a bad day. That should be good enough to win. I agree with Donb, unless Tony has bad luck, the title is his.
Posted by: 19Jay12 | Nov 7, 2005 2:57:15 PM
Tony seems to always do well, even when he has a bad day, and those Roush cars sure seem to be FAST. But don't ever write off JJ and His CC, they sure seem to pretty much be near the top come the end of the race also.
I think it's Tony's, unless he has some really bad luck. And if it's the cars they are giving Carl or he's just that good, he sure sems to be able to pass on the top or bottom, I wouldn't write him off either.
Posted by: DonB | Nov 7, 2005 2:16:04 PM
Biffle's problems probably sealed the deal for Tony this weekend, because I don't think JJ has the car or team to win and Roush was expected to make a hard run. Still, it won't be a runaway victory. The way Biffle is driving right now, he'll make it deadly close in the end.
Speaking of the Biff, that Danny Sullivan-Joie Chitwood imitation he did proves that, if the racing thing doesn't pan out, the remake of "Bullet" ought to be in his future. I was stunned to see him make it back to 20th after running the race from hell.
Too bad Martin couldn't hold off "WildMan." He really had the best pit stops and strategy. He just didn't have enough speed going into four. I was hoping he would drive high into three, but he didn't and Flip got around him.
