Softer bumpers?
It was mentioned during the pre-race show during Sunday's race that NASCAR is going to or is seriously thinking about making the front bumper of the cars softer for the upcoming Dega race. NASCAR is apparantly tired of the "slam drafting" that has gone on and thinks that this will fix it. With the softer bumpers (no idea of how fragile they will be) I don't think the drivers will even be able to bump draft without causing possible damage to the front end of the cars.
I'm a bit torn on this, yes the slam drafting as they call it has gotten bad in recent years, but that's because NASCAR has them all bunched up to supposedly please us fans.
I haven't seen anything official about this yet, only the mention of it during the pre-race show.
What's your take on this?

The real problem is the restrictor plates, they have tried several things, nothing has worked, we either have a parade or the big one, why don't they get smart and just use smaller engines for these 4 races.

It is a long over due solution. They have enough metal bracing behind the front valance to build a second SF Bay Bridge.
You are correct DonB the only workable solution to Daytona and Talladega is smaller engines. Unfortunately Ford and Chevy have pertty much killed of NASCAR's "Engine of the Future."
And BTW using smaller engines would have to be used for all events to make it cost effective.
Given the speeds at Charlotte, Texas and Atlanta and the fact the CoF has only reduced speeds by about 3-5 MPH they need the smaller block across the board.
