Bill Kimm has it wrong about Gordon
I was browsing the net and noticed that NASCAR.com had a guest columnist for Cross' Words and although I'm used to all the hype that Jeff Gordon gets, this Bill Kimm has jumped on the bandwagon and says that "NASCAR needs Jeff Gordon to make the Chase". That was the title of his actual article. He went on to say that Saturday nights race was a perfect example of it because of how much Gordon was shown. Of course he was shown, it was the Pepsi 400 (one of his sponsors) and he has won at Daytona many times. He also was running well until he was taken out in that wreck and he is one of the popular drivers of NASCAR, but to say that NASCAR needs Gordon to succeed and to make the Chase is a bit ridiculous. It seems that NASCAR did ok last year when neither Gordon or Dale Earnhardt Jr. made the Chase, the Chase survived and so did NASCAR.
Yes, Gordon is one of NASCARS most popular drivers and has many fans, but NASCAR doesn't need him in order to succeed as a sport. NASCAR doesn't need any one driver to succeed, it is made up of many drivers.
Although I'm not a fan, I think Jimmie Johnson is better than Gordon and what NASCAR needs to succeed to several successful drivers.
What's your take, do you think this Bill Kimm is right? Does NASCAR need Gordon to make the Chase?

you think Jimmie Johnson is a better driver than Jeff Gordon? based off what? because he has finished better in the standings the past few years? how many championships has Johnson won? races? poles? to say that a guy who hasn't won a championship is better than a guy who has won 4 titles and 74 wins is absurd. jimmie is a very good driver, but there are few great drivers, and gordon is one of those.
i don't think Gordon needs to make the chase for nascar to succeed, they will succeed either way, but it def. wouldn't hurt.

No, they don't need Gordon to make the chase. But, how can you say Johnson is better than Gordon? That is quite possibly the dumbest statmentI have ever read. Why don't we have Johnson win atleast one title
before we call him better. Kirk Schelmerdine could win in one of Johnson's cars.
