Changes to the Chase
NASCAR announced they will be making some changes to the Chase during the off season, they said any changes that are made will be "nothing new", meaning they are suggestions we've heard before since the implementation of the Chase. Unfortunately, with the amount of suggestions that were made, it's hard to pinpoint what these changes will be. More points for the winner? More spots in the Chase? Different point system for Chase drivers? I have heard all these, plus I'm sure there is a lot more out there, but which changes will be implemented? It's anyones guess.
If you had a chance to change the rules for the Chase, what would you change? Or would you do away with it altogether?

I think they should go back to the way it was. I hate the chase and have since they started it. It won't happen because "little Napoleon" france won't let it go back but that would be the best way to change it, GET RID OF IT!!!!! but it's more about business than about what lifetime fans think then isn't it Mr. France. Bite me big boy, you are ruining NASCAR, I mean they are serving sushi and champagne at some tracks now. This is a sport started by brewed in the south White Lightning drivers, (MOONSHINE for those of you that don't know what that is) what's that sushi and champagne thing all about?

I wish Nascar would eliminate the chase all together. I know that will not happen so my only changes would be to cut out the extra points for leading a lap and leading the most laps. Give the winner an extra 25 points and then maybe elimiate a driver after each race.

Gotta agree with tbfka#5,
At least go into Speedweeks all at zero, Keep front row qualifying as is, always was, and 3 thru 43 get in via the 150's
odd numbered 3/5/7 starts from Duel 1, and 4/6/8 etc from Duel 2.
If Roush, Yates, Hendrick gets out gunned by BAM,MB2, or Joel's Chevron 1 race effort, TFB.
It happened to Penske at Indy and the world did not disintegrate.

Tbfka#5 - what makes you think I'm not at the race?

Change it, don't change it, you think NASCAR cares what we think?
Something wrong with a system where it's possiable for the Champian to have NO wins, and a driver with 3 or 4 doesn't make the chase. This is racing, drivers should be going for the win EVERY race, not a top 10 to make the chase

The only way to determine a legitimate champ is by scrapping the chase format entirely. Period. The team that does the best during 36 races is the best. And the best team is the one with the highest average finish. Therefore, 43 points for first, 42 for second, and on down the line. Simple, clean, objective. Matt Kenseth and Benny Parsons won titles with single wins because week in and week out, they were the best.
For whatever it's worth, I don't see the emphasis on wins. The winner finishes one place ahead of the guy in second, just like the guy in 20th finishes one spot of the guy in 21st. You give me a guy who runs second every week for 36 weeks and I'll give you a great team.
However, I can see the commercial and financial appeal of a playoff, and it makes for great arguments. It's just that I would much rather have that argument sitting around a table littered with tall boys instead of via cyberspace!

Hmmmm. Judging from comments here, the 'new and improved format for the champeenship' may not be as wildly popular as some people would like us to think it is.

Abolish the Chase.
GO back to the basic Latford System, increase race-winner points per race, and add quarterly and seasonal point bonuses for most wins and most laps led -
200 points per season quarter for most wins, 200 for most laps led, the same as the old Winston monetary bonuses for earning the most points each third of the season.
500 points for most wins in the season, 500 for most laps led.

Easy...Euthinize that damn lucky dog, go a lap?...then earn it back, Robbie Gordon, and Ryan Newman have, Dispose of "bonus points" WHO CARES who lead at the halfway point or who led the most laps, change "Past Champion provisional" to Reigning Champion povisional...just a perk for being # 1, and lastly...do away with locking in the "top 35"...EVERYBODY races in on time...PERIOD...If The # 8, or # 24, 20, 48...(insert YOUR car here) fails to make the show...thanks for stoppin' here's a lovely pating gift and autographed copy of Daniel Powter's "Had a Bad Day", and see ya next week! The points system worked for 30 some year...if it ain't broke don't fix it!

Hey Kathy & Jon,
Allow a wild-card for any multiple race winner not in the top ten.
Make the 10 start at the rear of the field each race.
Only count 9 of the last ten races, a mulligan. Owners pick which to toss.
Always pit them next to each other on pit road.
Sprint to the "Bottomless Cup"

I agree with S that NASCAR needs to scrap the Chase format entirely and go back to the way it was always done.

I would ditch the crapshoot, period. Let's go back to having the champion need to earn it over an entire season, and everyone can move up or down in the final standings until the last race is run. I don't like the 'made for TV only' format a bit. and, judging by the empty seats in the stands, and the sagging TV ratings, I'm not the only one.
