Was France given special treatment?
I'm sure you've all heard by now about the accident that Brian France was in. Although details seem to be still coming in, they are sketchy and what France said happen and what a witness says she saw seem to be completely different and bring into question the handling of the case.
According to France, he was drinking a "soda" (later identified by France as a Coke) and it spilled, diverting his attention and he "bumped something." Something? That "something" according to the witness was a tree near the restaurant parking lot, but it wasn't the only thing he hit according to the witness.
The witness called 911 after what she described France driving at a "very reckless speed," she also said he hit a parked car before he hit a tree. She also said that the man "feel over his own feet" as he got out of the car.
Police investigated, but didn't do a field sobriety test because France didn't smell of alcohol, as they said they had no probably cause.
After more came out about it the policie chief, Mike Chitwood started an internal investigation to see if France got special treatment because of his last name. As he said, "If I find out that someone gave him [France] a break because of his last name, someone is going to have to look for a new job."
Chitwood also had this to say about the witness -"I'm dealing with someone very credible in Ms. Hill. I owe it to her and to the community to have an internal affairs investigation to find out what happened."
I guess we'll see. I'm just wondering if it's because of the publicity of this accident that the police chief is launching this investigation or if he really means what he says.
First you had the initial reports saying he hit a tree and he was OK, then you get further reports from the witness describing more than just hitting or bumping the tree. You've got signs of damage to the car, reported as from a palm tree, but yet there was no palm tree damaged in the parking lot. It just all seems a little fishy to me.
I guess we'll have to wait and see what, if anything, comes of this. Was this special treatment or is more being made out of this than what really happened? Your thoughts?

It definitely smells of preferential treatment, but as Kathy said we will have to wait and see.
