After seven years, Cal Wells is shutting down Cup team
After seven years in Cup Series, Cal Wells is shutting down the #32 team. After Tide decided not to renew their contract after last year and not being able to find a new sponsor, they decided they just couldn't afford to keep going. Everything is going up for auction starting tomorrow, from the shot all the way to the hauler.
It shows that small teams have a hard time making it in today's NASCAR. With the rising costs, sponsorship seems to be getting harder to come by and for a small, struggling team, the costs are just too much.
It's sad to see a team close shop and I wish them the best.
Your thoughts?

Kat it is INDEED a sad day in motorsports, but this brings closure to the "Tide Ride" It seems like it has been longer than 7 years tho..But my memory could be playing tricks on me, I have fond memories of the #32 shop, and was sadden when they lost the Tide sponsorship. Friends that I made went elsewhere....MWR, Roush, DEI...and I could KICK myself for not following Ricky and Mike Beam doown to Roush...But I figured we'd build his trucks and get let go after we're done...lil gunshy in this sport, so i took a 9-5'r...actually 7:30 to 7 and I'm 8 minutes form the shop!
I had heard Cal was going to try to drum up sponsorship's but that must not have came into fruition, Then I heard he was gonna take a "Supervisory" position with I thought MWR...but It could have been Robbie Gordon...I've been out of the pipeline for so long sometimes it takes a while for it to filter back...I kinda miss being in the thick of things! But this PROVES my point that single car teams are a thing of the past, Cal wanted a 2 car Op, but he didn't have the resources to compete with Roush, Hendrick, Gibbs,or RCR...So I really feel for Robbie! What ever Cal does in the futeure I wish him luck!

If anything it shows the necessity of a high dollar primary sponsor in today's NASCAR.
