This week in NASCAR
We won't be seeing as much double duty this week with all three series at different tracks. With Cup at Pocono and the Busch Series at Nashville, we are not going to see half the field in the Busch race be Cup drivers.
Ray Evernham is close to finalizing a deal with Montreal Canadiens owner George Gillett Jr. This would bring Evernham Motorsports up to the same level as the Hendrick and Roush teams. He's been working on this deal for a while and once finalized he'll be able to devote most of his time to the teams again. He told his sponsors that he would still own a "significant" part of the operation and still be CEO of the company. He also said it would benefit the entire organization.
A Visa spokesperson spoke out this week saying there is no truth to the rumors that they are close to a deal with Dale Earnhardt Jr., in fact they said.... "We haven’t even had conversations."
Tony Eury Sr. is out as crew chief for Paul Menard. Eury Sr. will lead a dedicated test team to try and get DEI up to speed with the rest of the top teams.
Hall Of Fame Racing wants to add a second team for 2008. According to the team, they've been approached by sponsors for the second team and they would like to talk to Dale Earnhardt Jr. about it, but doubt he would go to them since they aren't a top team.
Rumors were rapant about Kurt Busch's possible penalty for the pit road incident at Dover. Most of the word around was that he would sit out Pocono, but the penalty never came out yesterday. Now it seems as if the penalty, whatever it may be, will not come out until Friday.
Carl Edwards won the Prelude to a Dream at Eldora Wednesday night, no word yet on how much they were able to raise for Victory Junction Gang Camp.
Fast Cars and Superstars debuts tonight, it pairs a Gillette Young Gun with a celebrity as they learn how to race a car and are pitted against each other to see who will be champion after seven episodes.
Still no word on where Jr. will go or who will replace him. My hunch is still either Ginn or JGR. They hope to have announcement by the end of July according to the last reports.
Your thoughts?

NASCAR even surprised Kurt Busch by not parking him this weekend. I guess NASCAR really isn't interested in safety as they profess to be at less not on pitroad. They had the perfect opportunity to make an extreme example of Kurt Busch and to deter the rest of the drivers from doing what he did and they dropped the ball.

Kurt in the 2 this weekend.

Kurt Busch will never wise up. You can't wise up a chump.

I donated my $25.00, it was for a good cause, and I enjoyed the racing.
Just telling you this, because I'm trying to be nice this week

I'm rooting for rain in Nashville on Saturday so they have to run head-to-head with the Cup race from Pocono like they did in 2005. It would be refreshing to see a Busch-only driver have a chance to win a race. If it doesn't rain it will be another Carl Edwards domination without Busch, Kenseth, Kahne, Burton, Harvick, etc. in the field and only David Reutimann and Dave Blaney to beat.

Let Jimmy Spencer take care of Kurts punishment. He needs another punch in the face. He's just an arrogant little a**hole anyway!

I went to YouTube to look for Eldora video and it says the race was pulled by HBO. It appears they own it. So much for charity.
Bummer

Kathy,
Hopefully by setting up a dedicated testing team DEI will make some better improvements in their COT program.
As far as Busch goes, he should be hammered for his antics on pitroad. But the longer NASCAR takes to announce the penalties tells me they plan to slap him on the wrist and he will move on until the next time.

Well why not focus on Bonehead Busch? He has been a jerk most of his racing career, do you think this just started a few years ago? I was in N.C. airport a few years back, en-route to the Vegas race. Clint Bowyer was sitting next to me talking with one of the Satelite Radio people about the upcoming race. The enterviewer asked him about Kurt Busch , how he was taken in the garage area and all around in genral. Bowyer tried to avoid the issue but the lady kept pressing him for a reply, finally Clint said that most of the drivers have no repect for the guy, that he is one of the most arrogant persons in the garage. Now Bowyer is pretty laid back, easy going guy, and genuine nice guy. For him to say that pretty much summed up what i thought about Kurt. That was two and half years ago, seems not much has change has it? How can any one stand behind this guy? Can his team really support him the rest of the year? I know Tony has issues and the biggest one is that he is a very sore looser, but at least he does do a lot of good things also. When is the last time you heard Kurt doing anything nice, in the sense that it got major publicity? I say sit him at least 2 races, Penske must be pretty upset, but at least he knew what he was getting into. Too bad because Kurt has some talent, but he sure doesn't act like an ambassador to the sport does he? Oh maybe that isn't important in this day and age, maybe respect isn't "cool" anymore, but in my book Kurt acted like a fool. What is the old saying ....fool me once shame on you...fool me twice shame on me? Well Kurt is fooling no one, once again his true colors shine!!

Tony 29
Just go over to u tube and watch most the hi lites, great race!! DW was funny and KP was very insightful!
Like him or hate him JG is till one of the best and a great all-round driver. He was impressive in an f1 test car. Then you see him run on dirt like he did last nite and the guy is just that good!! I was impressed with him on dirt track, seeing he had not been on it, for what 16 years!!
Posted by: MassiveJrFAN | Jun 7, 2007 4:11:34 PM
Carl Edwards won it Tony29.
Posted by: Kathy | Jun 7, 2007 3:52:54 PM
Who won at Eldora last night?
Posted by: Tony29 | Jun 7, 2007 3:51:29 PM
BrianJ,
I missed it last night. Any word on how much they were able to raise?
Glad you enjoyed the race, I heard it was great.
Posted by: Kathy | Jun 7, 2007 3:22:23 PM
People could be remembering Bill France, or talking about Truex's great win or talking about last night's dirt race (which was amazing) but instead as always the negative gets discussed.
This is supposed to be for fun, let's not lose sight of that.

Kurt was in fact wrong, with pit road. But whomever said Penske should sit him for the year get real.
Being OTW it was dangerous for any driver to do, but not the dumbest move in NASCAR ever.
Dont think when his contract is up he is out of the 2, not going to happen.
Posted by: KURT2 | Jun 7, 2007 1:22:14 PM
It is a bigger statement to have Elf Boy escourted out of the garage and track. I am sure Roger has someone ready as he has to know it is coming and he is not a NASCAR golden child owner.
I can't really say I am upset that NASCAR has taken until Friday, I mean they have bigger issues, family matters to deal with.
Slow news week for sure.
Ricky Bobby will drive the 2 at Pocono.
Shake and bake......
Posted by: Tony | Jun 7, 2007 1:09:55 PM
You would think NASCAR would have already announced the Busch penalty, if they were going to suspend him for a race--they're already going to be at Pocono today, aren't they? Hmmmmm.....and to be honest, I could care less about where Jr. is going next year. Said it before, it's the most overblown story of the year and I think his fans are going to get a reality check next season, no matter where the guy ends up.

Just when I thought I had it figured out which Busch brother was the bigger bonehead, Kurt has to retake the lead over Shrub! Kyle been quite the bonehead this year but Kurt way to go! Two race or at least one race supension should suffice. Next time wreck him on the track not Pit road, Better yet put the gloves on for pay per view! Victory Junction Gang can always use more donations for such a good cause!

Let me say,I am not a Kurt Busch fan.I don't dislike him,I don't dislike anyone, but I am not a fan.No one can deny that he is a great wheelman. He has a talent that will keep him in this sport a long time.
I only wonder how long it will take him to stop doing such stupid stuff.Thank goodness things were not as bad as they could have been.I don't think the crewman was ever in danger, but that does not excuse Kurt.
This has been a big news week. One I am ready to see come to an end.JMO

Actually, once Busch's contract is up with Penske, he'll probably be out of a ride. I don't see any prominent team at least putting up with stuff like this.
Posted by: Kurt Smith | Jun 7, 2007 11:30:08 AM
RB,
Penske will not sit him for the rest of the season. If he sits out a race it'll be NASCAR's doing, not Penske.
Posted by: Kathy | Jun 7, 2007 11:11:27 AM
re. Kurt Busch; Pensky should pull his seat and put another driver in for the rest of the season. Call it "in the interest of the rest of the organization".
