Ginn sponsor troubles could be an opportunity for DEI
Ginn Racing's still having trouble with getting sponsorship for the #13 team, the #01 has secured sponsorship with the Army and word is they are close to securing a sponsor for the #14.
Ginn wants to be able to stay with three cars next season, at first saying money wasn't an issue, but things seemed to have changed. DEI is supposedly in talks with Ginn about purchasing the #13, this would be a fourth car for DEI and valuable because it's in the top 35 in points. The reason I say supposedly is because officials at DEI confirmed that they are looking at acquiring an existing team, but didn't come out and say they were in talks with Ginn about it and there was no comment from Ginn Racing either.
The other rumor out there, with the same two teams, is a possible merger. Both teams have three cars at this point, so two would have to be dropped in order for them to merge. Not sure if that's something DEI wants, but who knows.
Your thoughts?

It would be a shame if Ginn Racing has to drop back to a two-car team because of sponsorship problems. I suppose a merger is possible but this sounds to me like another case of one owner shutting down a team and getting cash in return for selling them the rights to their owner's points.
If DEI "buys" the #13 car they would just be buying their qualifying exemption, I doubt any cars, engines, or employees would be involved in the purchase of the team. The only thing that will change is that Paul Menard will be given the 13 car's spot in the top 35 in owner's points, the 13 car will disappear, and we will drop down from 49 to 48 full-time teams.
The same thing has happened many times in recent years.
When Penske scaled down to two teams, Michael Waltrip "bought" the 77 car and chose to change the number to 55 with NAPA sponsorship.
When Cal Wells shut down, Michael Waltrip "bought" the 32 car, switched the team from Chevy to Toyota, renumbered the car to 00, and hired a whole new crew of people to run the team.
After two races in 2007, Larry McClure "sold" his #4 team to James Finch and James Finch in turn sold the #09 team to McClure, and then after the sale both chose to swap back their equipment, sponsors, and drivers. In reality, the #4 car got about 100 extra points and nothing else really changed.
Anyone with any common sense knows which team sales are legit and which ones are fake (Bobby Ginn buying MB2 Motorsports - legit, Michael Waltrip buying Penske's #77 team - fake).
Do you guys think it's right for the owners to make "fake" sales because they deserve to get some cash in return for their participation in the sport instead of having to leave with nothing, or would you like to see NASCAR step in and stop the "fake" sales / owner's points swaps?

The news of sponsorship troubles at Ginn Racing pretty much sums up why Ginn wasn't considered a viable option for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and why it likely won't be an option for Kyle Busch.
While each of these drivers could have brought sponsorship with them, the state of the Ginn Racing would seem to scare off many drivers. Besides, why would Busch go to a team that might not be locked into the top 35 in points - Marlin and Nemechek are slipping down the standings.
I hope Bobby Ginn is able to stick in NASCAR. Yes, he has tons of money. But it takes sponsorship to make it in NASCAR.
Ginn needs to catch lightning in a bottle with a young driver (Regan Smith? Dunno.) because sponsors are not going to want to build around Front Row Joe and Coo Coo's boy.
