Labonte in for Waltrip again
I guess it won't be for just the road courses. Previously, Michael Waltrip Racing had said that Terry Labonte was going to drive the #55 in the road course events, now they just announced that he will be in the car for Waltrip for the Indy race.
I think this is wrong. They are only using Labonte for his past champion provisional, just in case they don't make it on time. I wonder how many more races they'll have him in the car?
I realize the sponsors want the car in the race, they are spending all that money to sponsor the car, but I think it's time for them to step it up a notch and tell Waltrip to step out of the car for good and just run the organization. Find a young driver and give him a chance in the car, enough using semi-retired drivers to get into race just because they have a provisional to fall back on if they don't make it on speed.
I guess Waltrips complaining may pay off though, NASCAR is actually thinking about changes to qualifying, taking Waltrips suggestion about all the drivers without a guaranteed spot going out at the same time instead of scattered throughout qualifying. No definite word, but they did say they were thinking about it.
Your thoughts?

While I do like to see Terry Labonte race again I hate to see him in such poor equipment as provided by MWR. He deserves to be in a car that can be competitive, not a car that wouldn't make the race if not for a past champions provisional.

After MWR bleeds Terry Labonte dry on the past provisiionals, what's next? Is Mikey now going to talk to Rusty Wallace to drive and use his 6 past champions provisionals? Then DW, then Cale Yarborough? That way his car can make the field the rest of the year. I like the past provisional ruling so that a driver can race occasionally etc. But for the blatant use by a car owner in this manner is a sham.
