McMurray wins Daytona and Busch upset
Jamie McMurray came back from an early penalty for passing below the yellow line to win the Pepsi 400 over Kyle Busch by .005 seconds. It was McMurray's second career win after a 166 race drought and it happened to be at Daytona.
Kyle Busch did not appear to be a happy camper that he got no help from teammates, probably due to the fact he's leaving at the end of the year. Busch was upset that Gordon had an opportunity to drop down to the bottom and help him but choose to stay up on top and help push McMurray. He also mentioned that Gordon had had nothing but praise for McMurray winning the race and didn't even mention his second place finish and the fact that he congratulated Gordon on his finish and Gordon supposedly blew him off.
I'm not a fan of Kyle Busch by any means, but he does appear to be the odd man out, similar to what happened to Vickers last year when it was announced he was leaving at the end of the year, so it really isn't too surprising. How soon do you think it'll be before he's told not to attend the team meetings like Vickers was last year?
Then there was the Tony Stewart/Denny Hamlin wreck, not exactly the big one, but the biggest wreck of the night involving seven cars, although Sorenson was the only one taken out of the race at that point. Stewart blamed it on Hamlin, said he basically stopped and Hamlin said he wasn't sure other than he knew he got tapped from behind by Stewart but didn't outwardly say it was Stewarts fault. I will usually stick up for Stewart in these kinds of things, but it seemed like he had a bigger run than he thought and clipped Hamlin. Sorry Tony, I think you just misjudged this one.
Montoya, well he was involved in a couple of incidents, one where he kept going and the other, he couldn't. First incident was where he put Kevin Harvick in the wall, which killed Harvick's chances at a season sweep at Daytona and the other where he couldn't avoid spinning cars and ran over Bobby Labonte. The second one wasn't his fault, but the incident with Harvick was and Harvick had a few choice words for Montoya, let's just say Harvick thinks Montoya needs to get his head out of you know where. I think Montoya should stay clear of Harvick for the rest of the year if he knows what's good for him.
The rest of the wrecks seemed to have been caused by contact by two cars and one car spins and amazingly, none of them caused the big one even though cars went across the track, but everyone was able to avoid them.
And finally, the TNT Wide Open coverage. If tweaked, I think this kind of coverage could work. While the commercials were running and being heard in the bottom right corner of your screen, you still had the racing being shown, which is better than not seeing it at all. I think when things are happening on the track during these "commercials" they should have let the fans know somehow, even if it was just a scroll. I think this type of coverage can work though, I heard a lot of complaints about only seeing the action at the front of the field, but that's the way TNT has always been, that wasn't changed for this new coverage. Not sure how long it'll take NASCAR to decided whether this kind of coverage would work, but I know ESPN/ABC are waiting to see how NASCAR feels and just maybe they'll be able to do their side by side coverage or something similar for the races.
Your thoughts?

Kathy,
I agree with your points and I am not happy with the wreck that caused Jr. to finish 36th. Had the Stewart/Hamlin wreck not happen Jr. had a car that could have been there at the end as he usually is. Thankfully he is still 12th in points and with 8 races left he is far from safe.
I think the wide open coverage has some promise and with some tweaking it will be good for race fans.
