Bowyer finally gets his first win
Clint Bowyer surprised everyone on Friday by getting the pole, then he backed it up today getting his first ever Cup Series win.
It was obvious from the start that Clint Bowyer had the car to beat and while he didn't lead all the laps, he led the most laps and jumped from 12th in the standings to 4th and only 15 points behind the leader.
All but three of the Chase drivers did well, with Gordon, Stewart, Kyle Busch, Truex, Johnson and Kenseth rounding out the top seven. Edwards finished 12th, Hamlin 15th, Harvick 17th, Burton 18th and Kurt Busch 25th.
Harvick, Burton and Kurt Busch had troubles that they just couldn't improve on. Harvick had a tight car, which was something they could deal with, but flat tires are not and that's what got them back there and they just couldn't bounce back from that. Burton, it seems like it was just the car, it wasn't that good in practice and apparently they couldn't improve it enough to get it better during the race either. Kurt Busch had engine troubles, they thought they were possibly down a cylinder after running in the top five, he was never really able to recover. While all three struggled and finished one lap down, it took them until late in the race to actually go a lap down.
As it stands now,
- Johnson and Gordon are tied for the lead
- Stewart - 10 points back
- Bowyer - 15 points back
- Kyle Busch - 35 points back
- Truex - 40 points back
- Kenseth - 54 points back
- Edwards - 63 points back
- Hamlin - 82 points back
- Harvick - 88 points back
- Burton - 91 points back
- Kurt Busch - 102 points back
It's not over yet for these guys who didn't do well in this race, there is still 9 more races to go and they can step it up and get themselves to the front, so I wouldn't be counting anyone out yet.
On to Dover next week and see who can tame the monster.
Your thoughts?

Aggie Thanks, right now I can't jus' go off and walk away...or I get called on the carpet...at least in a shop if I douse it gasoline and set a match to it, I can claim self defense!...some pieces are evil, But yeah I'd like to find a "Happy Place", It's a job...but it's a passion. I respect what K2 and those guys do at this level...I embarassed myself by thinking I CAN do that after not doing it for a couple of years, so I lost the bet...I think TN may not last long where he's at...with recent "reorganization" I expect him to look for greener pastures...I could speculate...but i won't

Fan5,]
You WILL hear from me..Rooster told me to.
Keep the BIG SHOW MOVING.. As Rocket always said.
SP , and I know where you are heading with that.Great one.
I am not pissed it HMS or anyone in general. Its a matter of the caving in BS of NASCAR now..
Stay at a Holiday Inn bud and dont be a detective>LOL
Fab and Body make it what it is buddy, dont ever forget that, that is why we get to do what we do.
You are HOT at Bristol and those tracks?
Sorry Kathy, we are comparing notes/

K2 I finally figured out why your busting my balls...NO I'm not a road rat...was in lesser series...I may have misconstrued comments from MI...I have my contacts that have to fight to try making the show, as for me Fab and Body, Some of the names you thru out sound familar, But the ONLY time I was "Hot" was locally, Lowes, Bristol, Martinsville...places that we did'nt fly into...My Bud said he was gonna fly into Bristol and i was taken aback! we piled into a Chevy van and tore down 321...crazy bastards!, Never said you work for TEI, But I got a hunch as where you employ...By chance is your better half a jersey girl...If not I suck at detective work!...or I better start staying in a Holiday Inn...you know CWIII is taking on a bigger responsibility?...ps I'm pissed Yates caved in to HMS pressure, I like Jr, But he'll always be in the shadow of the man!...no didn't work there either BUT would have died a happy man when SP was there!

I do feel bad that he is in the "shoes" he is in.
I’ve said it all along and its not just Jr so many rich kids in his position are in what i call a can’t win in situation……… they make it and its oh yeah, well daddy helped you out…………or they fail and wow what a loser all that opportunity and he blows it or did nothing with his life.
Yeah Dough sold out but hey what does junior make? Probably 10000000x what he paid and this time iam sure its HIS number
Posted by: aggie | Sep 17, 2007 6:00:46 PM
Aggie, Just hate the fact it has become this in the sport. The highest bidder
Doug, whom I know well ,just gave it up for the $$ and the fact he got what he wanted.
Been around a while and watched the sport change massively. Not a thing wrong with change at all but damn.
Its not really a fact of 88 or 81 its the means behind it.
Let me throw a cluse in, personally I have no issue with Jr. the person, he is a good guy and I get along with him well.
I do feel bad that he is in the "shoes" he is in.

WTG Clint and the 07 team and RCR... i knew a win was coming for you.... all you had to do was keep the faith..... keep on racin'
Posted by: RCR29 | Sep 17, 2007 11:00:06 AM
Happy for Clint. And I too LOVE the paint scheme on that car. I would love to see either him or Martin win the dang thing. Noone's really talked about them much as far as being true contenders for this thing, so I'd like to see either of them get it.
Posted by: Gretchen | Sep 17, 2007 10:16:54 AM
John,
I vaguely remember hearing about that, not sure exactly what happened, but the trophy got broken. I wonder if they ever contacted the company that made it to see if it could be repaired or replaced?
Posted by: Kathy | Sep 17, 2007 9:44:37 AM
I want to hold the Dover trophy Kathy
Well, Kurt2, I guess that means your team will have to win the race. :)
If you tell me who you work for, I'll root for your driver to win, so you can hold the trophy. :)

K2
You were right about the 30-40 points going into NH meaning sweet f-all, nice to see CB get a win and those 3 guys, one more mulligan and they are bub bye, KB I think can come back from the setback, KH is like he has been all season hot and cold and the tracks he sucks at are coming up, so oods are 5 to 1 he’ll be out first. Loving an under dog iam pulling MT.
How about CB's bride?? best looker on pit lane!!
RC in mongolia, probably looking for drivers to piss Irondude off on here.

Congrats to Boyer and the 07 team! No one put themselves out of it which should make for an interesting Chase.

Kurt2,
If your team happens to win at Dover next week be sure and keep that trophy away from Kim Burton! LOL Have you ever heard that story??? Get Jeff to tell you what happened to his Dover trophy!
Posted by: John | Sep 16, 2007 10:35:18 PM
Clint Boyer definatly had the car to beat today. No doubt about it. I think the COT is showing that it isn't as good a car as Nascar thought it would be. Still overall it was a good race to watch today.
Posted by: John | Sep 16, 2007 10:32:23 PM
Kurt2,
That is one hell of a cool trophy and I am sure a lot of work went into building that trophy.
Posted by: Jon | Sep 16, 2007 10:01:04 PM
For once the chase starts out without any chasers having a major problem. Kurt did have a carburator issue or whatever it was but still finished 25th and isn't in the huge hole that others have found themselves in after the first race in past chases. 102 points is a big hill to climb but it's not a mountain that say Kyle had to climb after the first race in last year's chase.
Most of the chasers had great days and the top 3 are only seperated by 10 points. Bowyer's only 15 behind after his dominating win. This chase will definately go down to the last lap of the last race.

Its way to early to give anyone the CUP. I want to hold the Dover trophy Kathy

Whoopee, finally some new blood on the finsh line. Couldn't be more happy for Bowyer. He is a great guy with a big heart. The only thing better would have been Stewart at the front.. Go Smoke..
Posted by: Rose | Sep 16, 2007 8:28:24 PM
Way to early to get excitied about anyones chances. One fluke thing like what happened to Busch today and you are climbing uphill.
Posted by: jeff | Sep 16, 2007 8:12:02 PM
Congrats to Bowyer and tyhe whole 07 team and RCR. No big deal that Richard Childress was hunting and I am sure he will be on the phone with Bowyer before the night was over.
Tony is in great position after race number one and he will be in the thick of it when the final race comes at Homestead.

SneakyPete,
Stewart is only 10 points back, that's not much by his standards at this time of the season.

I think they said Mongolia.

Congrats to the 07 team--I've always liked the look of that black Jack Daniels paint scheme :) Only one thing bad about the win and that's that it put that freakin' 48 car in the points lead in the Chase (actually, tied with Gordo). GO SMOKE GO
