Earnhardt Jr., the #88 and Mountain Dew/Amp and National Guard
It was announced this afternoon that Dale Earnhardt Jr. will drive the #88 with Mountain Dew/Amp and National Guard as sponsors at their press conference in Dallas. As an added touch, everyone at the table was drinking AMP Energy Drink, much like you see when a driver is being interviewed.
I don't know about the Jr. fans, but I'm not thrilled with the number or the style of it. I was kind of hoping for the #81. While the #88 isn't a bad number, I usually associate it with Dale Jarrett, so it will take getting used to. The style is different too, while they are slightly slanted the numbers are fat, at least that's the way they looked in the picture.
I don't think the Jr. fans will really care though, they root for their driver, not a car number or sponsor, it will just take some getting used to when they were so use to the #8 Budweiser.
Your thoughts?

Mayfield got that 19 car in the chase twice when it definately wasnt a top 15 car. He was fingered and blamed as a scapegoat and brushed aside while his team went to crap.
it wouldbe nice to see someone get their act together and put mayfield and marlin in cars they deserve.time has showed both drivers were getting crap
as far as jr goes its funny for everyone to say that jr's cars have been just as good because busch was the 3rd team... i really doubt kyle gave any real consideration to sport around in the 8 car. guess we will see how competive menard and almoira are next year hopefully the childress ro7 will give truex what he needs to compete for a champoinship next year.
if anyone outside of Kurt, jimmy jeff, or tony wins it this year it would certainly be a surprise. i think denny needs another year or two boyer too

I agree with ya on the #28.
So, just who do you work for, anyway? I can't tell ya good luck if I don't know! haha

I cant let it go , because I hear, see and watch the hype. It kills me no 1 gives him abreak and wont let him be him..He wont be dad but has to be.......
Thanks for tommorrow... we will do well:)
Gail ,
Saw DALE, and knew him for a little bit. Hell of a man, just sucks Jr has to "be him in the media"..
Posted by: Kurt2 | Sep 22, 2007 5:47:57 PM
K2
I'm sure you saw DALE right. Now you have to admit that Jr was really cool even as a little kid.
Posted by: gail | Sep 22, 2007 5:07:44 PM
Damn K2, I would have said the same thing, absolutley no-one NOT even if JC himself drove the #3 or #28...I'm going straight tto purgatory for that! I respect driver eight...He has to be his own person...period...but the public won't let go of the legacy, I let all the drama run off like water on a ducks ass...to me there just peoples!...knock 'em dead tommarow...and kewl you censored yourself!

Ironman,
I needed to clarify alot there with Aggie and you.
Yes the years of 13 years are so gone out here .
Nothing (just like Jr) against jeff or Jimmie, they can not drive the cars Sr drove and be productive. Hell any older driver will freely admit that
OK Ironman, we are going to disagree Robert to some degree sold out. I get along really well with him and Doug. But its a mixed bag. He gave that up and Doug is putting the 28 back on the track.... UMM NO, not cool.
Sorry Kathy, its coming and I know you were a Davey fan, i would feel the same had Jr or the man in the moon got in the 3:)

Wow, thanks to the people giving me some kind words on here, in regards to my ranking in Powerlifting USA's top 100 list. Unfortunately, my 1860 total didn't get posted before the list was out, so I was credited with 1825 I did in another meet. The 1860 would put me at #49.
Gretchen seems to be a smart cookie. I liked her post about Evernham racing, plus she knows that people don't get strong simply by taking supplements. You DO have to bust your ass in the gym if you want to make progress and be successful.
Kurt2, thanks for the courtesy, even though I haven't always been the nicest poster on here. The above post really clarified things a lot. Don't get me wrong when I say that I think Junior will be a title contender; I am not saying that he will dominate the series, by any means. No one will. I agree with you on that issue, with anyone. The days of 13-win seasons by Jeffy or anyone else are gone.
I about fell out of my chair when you said you agreed with me on Jeffy and the IROC issue. You put a big smile on my face, too, when you said that Sr. could win with junk. I think that Dale Sr., Tony, and Mark have all proven their talents by beating the other drivers in equal stuff.
As for the topic, Robert Yates added another reason to why I like him so much with his comments about handing over the #88 to Junior. How can any Nascar fan not like Robert Yates, anyway, especially after that?

Aggie, I think you and Ironman truly think I dont like Jr .. Well I do personally.I could write a book on the reasons I feel bad for him. I wont trash him personally at all.
He was brought up behind a name and thats not fair, nor good for him. I watched the crap he walked thru when Sr passed away.
Soley for that I will not attack him. He is a kid, finally finding his way.I am proud of him for that. UMM we get along well.
Do I think he will kill it at HMS? Do you really want the anwser? No i dont.
He is one of 43 drivers buddy.
There are no more Richard Pettys,Sr's, Cale's, Pearson's. Its a 1 season or 1 race on and off these days, its has changed dramatically.
Some people, I have no issue ? their driving, some trashed on here I will defend period.
In short i respect your opion and preference on Jr and Ironmans.
Alot of times I DO agree with him and Daly on things.
Is Jr a merchandise machine? Yep , thanks to Sr.

K2
ok iam biased to the 8, I met that guy from dei in Daytona and i always admired the 3 as a person and from a business/marketing perspective and how he basically created this whole merchandising branding, sponsorship tie-in, sr & te were one smart couple. When some guy in NASCAR makes more $$$ than shuie did in F1 you have to be impressed. And like I said before few sports personalities have commanded the respect that SR did, we are lucky in our life time as we have seem some of the best of all time, IMO athletes in many sports like Jordan, bird, Montana, gretsky and the bball home run juice monkeys, or Nolan, Clemons ect BUT still none commanded the respect of their sports governing body or the others they competed with like SR did. MJ could literally beat you by himself but he still lost a game he scored 63 in lol its always a team game with one guy creating over achievers in others this separates great ones from superstars!
The 20 for what he puts back into the sport and says whats on his mind, just missed him seeing him and Jr in person in Sturgis in Sturgis oh well, next year!

Wow, y'all know how to burn serious rubber over here. LOL
Gretchen -- I read ALL your long post and yeah, you kicked ass. Thumbs up.
On topic - I like Jr's white cars, too. The MD/Amp scheme was lackluster. Not crazy about the 88's font, but I'm not a diehard Jr fan. I won't be buying his stuff. I was just surprised he nabbed the #88 since RR had it -- timing is everything I s'pose.
As for KK and Bud, I missed seeing the new scheme for #9. Anyone point me to a webpage showing it? Kahne is talented. If he wasn't, they wouldn't pour resources into him. Why not Sadler? His age? The way old guys are being shoved outta the driver's seat, they'll get more mileage from 27 y/o Kahne than 30-something Sadler.
That's my take anyway.
Cheers!

K2 so the 4 guys are right now guys not wait till after the season to take with him, is how i read that
DOVER, dega and Martinsville going to be 3 great races, this is cup racing bumping and grinding and flat out racing!! Not those boring tracks that you hate.
MT and bono have f----k all to loose and i like their chances, MT and Bono are starting to gel and take their place amongst top CC and driver combos
Posted by: aggie | Sep 21, 2007 11:08:59 AM
K2, the guy i know at dei said he isnt going and is going to wait till after the season, i think he feels some or lots of loyalty to TE and SR, you said SH isnt going right?? SH is one cool spotter
where are my phoenix hot passes?? iam standing at us customs waiting lol
Posted by: aggie | Sep 21, 2007 11:01:32 AM

Posted by: Gretchen | Sep 21, 2007 10:35:40 AM
Aggie,
In the deal Eury Jr can take up to 4 guys if they agree to it.
Posted by: Kurt2 | Sep 21, 2007 10:25:37 AM
OMG aggie I haven't heard his name in years!!! LOL!!! Gezz my life was just CONSUMED with all of the BB/PL shit for like 2 years. I NEVER saw my other half. ALWAYS at the dang gym or reading Muscle and Fitness, or MuscleMag, or FLEX!! LMFAO!!!
And how sad and pathetic about Craig Titus.....
Posted by: gretch | Sep 21, 2007 10:11:36 AM
k2
DEI vice president John Story said he met with Eury's crew this week and only one person has mentioned leaving thus far.
well i suprized at that recent race when TE made that wrong tire selection
at first i thought Jr would take all his OTW guys as he has a solid vetern team, unless they are waiting till the season ends?? or as u say they have contarcts with DEI for years to come.

Gretchen
You don't just take a shot of winstrol and grow to mass proportion
where is ole ben johnson the canadian poster boy for for winstrol
i can still remember ben in his jamican accent saying "i didnt take any stereos" LOL
Posted by: aggie | Sep 21, 2007 9:52:53 AM
Maybe the T Rex car is in Bahgdad with the Weapons of mass Destruction.
I say 'wow' to ironman. I dated a bodybuilder back in college and I can tell you it takes A Lot of your time up often at the expense of your personal life. To whover asked him about HGH-- regardless of how the general public feels about it, a lot of the power lifters and bb's have taken hgh and various steriods---but they ALSO worked their asses off in the gym. You don't just take a shot of winstrol and grow to mass proportions. Key component---you have to lift weights regardless of whether you take supplements or not. And it takes A LOT of dedication so that's remarkable for Ironman IMO. The only lifting I do is 12 oz curls during my Georgia football games and the Nascar events.
Now....back to the subject of the Blog....yeah K2 it's gonna be very interesting to see things after dega. I wasn't really surprised at the announcment. I guess he needs to start getting the cars ready for next year? And he can't build his new cars at DEI.....
