Congressional aides need to get shots before visiting Dega and Lowe's - you've got to be kidding me!
A friend pointed this story out to me, it actually made me laugh. I've also received a few emails pointing out the story, so I thought I'd write about it. Here's the story if you want to read it in it's entirety.
The House Homeland Security Committee planned a fact-finding trip about public health preparedness at mass gatherings and decided to conduct the research at two of the nation's most heavily attended sporting events, NASCAR's Bank of America 500 event this weekend and the UAW-Ford 500 last weekend.
Staff who organized the trips advised the NASCAR-bound aides to get a range of vaccines before attending -- hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus, diphtheria and influenza.
Ok, what do they think these aides are going to be exposed to? This isn't a third-world country they're visiting, it's a NASCAR race weekend!
Are they afraid they'll get some rare disease that can only be found in the NASCAR crowd? Maybe they're afraid they'll catch the dreaded Stewartitis or Buschitis and show their anger? Or maybe Hamlinitis and cut their hand going around a hauler? Or maybe even Montoyaitis and have a chance of hitting anything that's in their way? This is all in fun and meant to be just as ridiculous of these aides having to get these shots before going to the tracks.
Your thoughts?
