Hornaday wins Truck Championship - Skinner has bad luck
Ron Hornaday won his third Truck Championship at Homestead in a rather uncharacteristically boring truck race. Normally, the truck series has the best battles on the track, but long green flag runs and the field being spread out gave the fans a rather boring truck race until the end with the green-white-checkered finish.
Johnny Benson won the race, passing Kyle Busch on the last lap. Busch tried to give it one last shot by going up high to get some momentum to possibly pass Benson, but it looked like he went too high, got in the loose stuff and brushed the wall. At least we had a good race to the finish with as boring as the rest of the race was, as I said, very uncharacteristic of the Truck Series.
Mike Skinner went into this race 29 points ahead of Hornaday. Early in the race he thought he had a tire going down and they changed right side tires under green. That put him a lap down. Then green flag pit stops happened and since a few trucks were off sequence, both Skinner and Hornaday found themselves a lap down. Then the unthinkable happened for Skinner, something didn't feel right and he had a vibration. While heading down the access road to go to the pits, the left rear hub broke and the tire came off the truck, they had to go behind the wall to fix it and they spent 10 laps behind the wall, which basically put the nail in the coffin for Skinner.
Congrats to Hornaday for winning his third championship.

Dear Aggie,
We were there and I was so excited when Jon Woods took the pole position out of the box and led for 15 laps! You see, a friend of mine just lauched the new site CarRacing.com (a new social networking site for the auto racing enthusiast) and it was the sponsor of the # 21 Ford Truck run by the Woods Brothers/TGI Team. It was the first race I ever attended and now have a new respect and greater understanding of racing. Which is good since my husband has been a Race Nut since we've been together.
Although Jon didn't win the race, from the team and sponsors point of view, I think it was a success.
When you get the chance, I would love to know your thoughts as well as if you have plans to write any posts about social networking in the car racing industry?
Thanks for the great info. I can see you love racing!
Regards,
Heidi Richards Mooney aka Race Chick

Ironman, I feel left out! you didn't mention Toyota in your rant?...But I mentally put it in there!
Jon2, I unnderstand where K2 is coming from! Aurguing with you is much like teaching a dog to sing...you waste your time , and annoy the dog!
Congratulations to the entire Richard Childress Racing organization on wraping up the Owners Championship, and winning the LAST Busch race!!....Hmmmm didn't Dale Earnhardt win the first?...was a RCR prepped car???

Kathy,
You did. Probably will be better than what Homestead will be tomorrow. I never could understand why the CUP series ends at such a boring place as that track. Opens great at Daytona, great excitement. You'd think it would end at a more exciting track like Tally or even some place like Darlington where there's a lot of history. Guess the schedules, contracts and everything play into it. Plus it's warmer at Homestead this time of the year, that fact probably figures largely into the schedule.
Kurt2,
So all it takes is little ol' me to make you snap Kurt2. I thought you was used to all that pressure. Do I get under your firesuit that bad? Get it together boy, get a hold of yourself, ya gotta shine tomorrow, beat those HMS boys, concentrate. Anyway, good luck tomorrow and I hope your driver whoever he may be does well. In fact, I hope he wins for you and the team.

Ironman, if you think me and you went at it in the past , hell take a read on J2. Makes you wanna just snap.
Yep you are missed, been trying to take your end. Cant do it as good as you buddy. But trust me I swear Gretchen might have you beat... She is wide open...
Posted by: Kurt2 | Nov 17, 2007 7:48:42 PM
Hey, Kurt2, wow, you're getting my temper on here....I don't blame you. I could only take so much before I got pissed, too. Nice to know I"m missed! haha
Kathy and Jon, I don't think I'll be going through any DT's after this season....I"m glad that it's over tomorrow, and I'm hoping and praying that next season is a hell of a lot better!!!! How ironic that a season which started with such a fantastic finish at Daytona would produce such boring results. If that damn COT doesn't get the kinks worked out, I'll be mowing my yard and running errands on Sundays, and checking in on Jr. periodically. I'm tired of sitting in front of the TV and falling asleep from this boring shit Nascar has force-fed us. When the COT turned Talladega into a single-file parade, I threw in the towel. Add on the damn foreigners coming into the series, and they're about to lose a fan. This is on top of my disgust over Darlington losing the Labor Day race, the constant rules changes, the failure to lowe the boom on habitual cheaters (read Chad Knaus), and the petty fines because you can't say "shit" on TV. Brian France needs to just get drunk again and go to hell.

Hey kurt2, I've been a long time bud drinker..but for some reason when dale jr. Announced he was leaving budweiser,I started drinkin AMP energy drink...I haven't had a bud in 51 days!! That's a personal record for me..I'm a every week drinker.

Sorry Kathy and blog first and foremost.
J2 to your "usual come up empty", Been waiting to say this for a long time.FUCK YOU>
Made a statement, when it was confirmed in here (garage) I would post, not until. you need more go see Trent(LMAO) or Poole.
There I feel alot better.I was talking to the blog not your Anti Busch and CTS self.
AS I see you have nothing to say regarding the fact your 2 boys had there rears handed to them in Busch.
Diane, it was a great race, some people (him) will never get it, doesnt deal with HMS.
Back to the subject at hand.
No Deb, ENation wont be drinking. Issue there I dont drink
Posted by: Kurt2 | Nov 17, 2007 3:28:48 PM
Jon2,
If you don't believe what he says, why do you continue to harass him to comment about what he has heard around the garage?
Posted by: Jon | Nov 17, 2007 3:27:29 PM
Jon2,
As I said, it was an uncharacteristically boring race, normally not like that at all. You want to see side by side racing? Battling practically everywhere on the track? That's the truck series we are used to, not like last nights race.
Posted by: Kathy | Nov 17, 2007 3:26:00 PM
Kurt2,
Question, What does your Owner do for his/her employees on the week that your driver/team wins? Anything special? Just curious, enjoy your off season.
Posted by: SteveH | Nov 17, 2007 1:36:35 PM
Jon2,
Please don't judge the Truck Series by this weeks race. It wasn't a good example. Most races are so exciting and competitive that you can't keep up with all that's happening. Give the CTS another chance next year. You won't be sorry.
Posted by: Diane | Nov 17, 2007 1:28:21 PM
We're still waiting on that rumor stuff you mentioned about several topics ago, Kurt2. Ya got anything to offer us, or as usual ya come up empty.
Saw part of the Truck race. Spoken highly of by several of you as well as highly recommended.
No offense, but I'll stick with the big series.

DA24JG,
Read your post, sounds a little Denny Hamlish to me. The 24 team had a great year and ended up being 2nd best. J.J. and team have been on a pace that isn't seen very often in Nascar, you have to give them credit. Not many teams will fire a Crew Chief that helps his driver to, 7 Poles, 6 Wins, 20 Top 5's, 29 Top 10's. Have a great weekend.

I remember those days too, Ironman and K2. That Shell car had zero wins. I remember the Alltel car hitting the foam at The Glen, too. Those were the days.

Kurt2 is gonna be sippin tequilla in a coconut from margaritaville on monday, wearing his #55 NAPA hat!! Lol! Have fun in the keys...and yes I'm jealous!

Kurt2,
Thanks! Have fun after the checkered and have a great time in the Keys. You deserve alittle R&R.

Pratice and work on a few things, it varies from team to team. With frequency of pratice etc. All i know is at that checkered flag, we get Monday in the Keys, home Monday night. Work Tues. then 5 days off in a row.
Most of us didnt get a day of last week between races.

What do the OTW guys do during off season.
Do yall still practice pit stops or work at the shops? You guys don't get the praise that you deserve.

Thanks ENation. :) It may be less posts, that's why I say if you have a suggestion to suggest away. Off-season is always difficult, but I try to keep the flow going.
Kurt2, no DT's, but you might see a countdown soon. :)

ENation,
You drinking all ready?LOL Dont wait or drink till MW wins or DR. you might have alcohol posioning by then.. Had to and was just kidding.
Dag24,
Why are you sorry? Its your opinion but you arent shoving it down our throats. Do disagree, the OTW didnt f up stops. They all missed setups.
Not against you, but I love to see people calling for Steves head, and they had a freaking great season.WOW, alot of them fans are like professional sports fans in Philly or New York. Rough crowd.
Posted by: Kurt2 | Nov 17, 2007 9:57:53 AM
Ironman,
YOu live. Damn buddy you should read some of this stuff. Hell I feel like I am trying to be you on here.LOL.
Yeah they were the days, torn sheet metal on the Baby Ruth, Excedrin etc.
Mike McClaughin, and Elton Sawyer were 2 great Busch drivers. We all know Mike M got the shaft with a sonosr a few years ago when he had a Cup ride at Daytona.Elton has done well for himself.
Enation, yes Kathy will be posting, (i did leave that out) and she probaly will be going thru DT's with out racing.

No worries guys and gals, Kathy never stops thinking about NASCAR. She will find things to talk about and as she said give her suggestions and she will share her opinions. :)

Enation,
The off-season does tend to slow down, but I will continue to post on the blog during the off-season. It's just a little harder with no news or rumors to discuss, so I will gladly take suggestions on topics if you have any, just no "HMS is the greatest" suggestions please. :)

Hey, Kurt2! Nice reference to the Busch series, there. I remember what you're talking about. If I'm correct, there was a lot of torn up sheet metal on that Baby Ruth car.
But when I first got serious about racing, I remember Jason Keller, Randy Lajoie, and Mike "Magic Shoes" McGlaughlin being a few of the big names. Casey Atwood (airborne at Daytona!) cutting his teeth before getting shafted in the Cup series. Buckshot Jones pissing off Robert Pressley at Bristol one night, being a lap a down and racing with the race leader with ten to go, then taking him out. I don't remember a certain Shell car being really competitive around that time, either. Naturally, I miss that AC Delco car winning a lot of races with Park and two championships with Junior, to boot.....that's what I remember of the Busch series before the Cup guys took it over and ruined it.

OFF THE SUBJECT FOR A MOMENT FOLKS:
Bottom line my good Gordon friends,
'Jeff Gordon had the lead in the points through out the chase until he was 68 points ahead of Jimmie Johnson and Steve Letarte and team Dupont screwed Jeff on the last 4 races. It is 'very' sad to see that Steve Letarte and team Dupont give away a 5th Championship title to Jimmie johnson because of poor setups and poor pit stop calls to give it up to jimmie johnson and chad knaus. Yes, give it up to chad, lowes' and jimmie. Thanks to the poor team work of Steve Letarte and team Dupont giving Jeff Gordon a 'poor' 'poor' set ups to bring down a 'Four Time Champ!' Very, Very, Embarrassing Steve and Team Dupont!' Steve and Team DuPont, I hope you are 'VERY' happy to be sitting on the 'floor' at New York's event!........If I were you Steve and Team Dupont, I would be 'VERY EMBARRASSED!' Seriously,...........You guys' should be very embarrassed!!! ('VERY PATHETIC STEVE LETARTE AND TEAM DUPONT!!)
(SORRY KURT2, HAD TO GET IT OFF MY CHEST....) ;-)

I find is kinda funny... Alot of pre season picks had Hornaday winning the title!
Personally... I'm so so so proud of KHI... They won the Truck title and now they have a chance at both Busch cars in the top 10 in owners points in the Busch Series!
Give RCR a shout too... They help out KHI alot... Engines etc.

Enation
That was a joke buddy with me and Fan5, (BTW F5 have a good feeeling we umm know a few people and umm well should meet at the reflecting pool)
Enation, it strated with the fact of some whom assume once sundays checkered flag drops , it all stops. We joked about it, and thats all it is a joke, nothing ever stops, not like the NFL, NBA etc.... We dont stop. we get to breath a bit. Let us get rest, be home, not travel too much. Heal alot of sore and tired bodies.Thast our offseaon, but we all go to the shop weekly, , sometimes we are there way too much.
It was a all a joke buddy, this blog and NASCAR will be there. Its just not travel and racing weekly.

forgot one thing on the "JV series", (CTS and Busch as it was put earlier.
Does anyone besides me remember 2 certainHMS drivers having there ass handed to them and basically sucking in the Busch series.HUMMMMM.
Guess the guys racing them now in Cup and the "rejects" must suck really bad as the Excedrin car got its rear handed to him week out along with a certain baby Ruth car..
Man those rejects stomped those 2 cars.Just food for thought. Think alot more on here might remember those days
Posted by: Kurt2 | Nov 17, 2007 1:23:34 AM
Damn.. I've only been posting messages on this website for about 2 months....what happens after sunday night? Do we all just meet back here next season or what? I actually look foward to what everybody on here has to say..especially the regulars...so what happens after sunday guys? I'm new to this,so fill me in with some info..
Posted by: earnhardt nation | Nov 17, 2007 1:13:10 AM
Sigh...I gotta agree, from a drivers stand point, if i have a vibration, and think it's the right rear...it would have been "logical" to change all 4 that early in race...oh well Once KHI, Congratualtions on a deserved Championship! I'm off to submit my resume' to Matt Kenseth ;)
Posted by: Fan #5 | Nov 17, 2007 1:08:37 AM
Well well well....my toyota prediction didnt come true....congrats to RH,u deserve it..and to the HARVICKS...they have performed quite well this year.

the Truck Championship.
Also, Congratulations to Kevin Harvick
and DeLana.

Congrats to Ron and ALL OF KHI. Delana and Kevin have built a solid Truck and Busch program.
Congrats to JB, he did a great job.....Damn them boys put on a show...
Didnt get to the last blog to now, seems as I might follow many more on this.
Jon- I agree, probaly said it myself, hell lose count with this moron.See below
J2, is your head that far up you as of HMS's ass.( IF its up Ricks you gotaa plenty of room to move around). Can we talk about the CTS series without hearing about HMS?
Its sunny here , mid 70's, can we correlate that into HMS somehow? It rained at my house in NC the other day, can we correlate that into it as well?
I do agree with Grethcen, you are the main reason people detest HMS.
To your CTS sucks , "reject Cup drivers". Well lets see, precious Jeff or JJ couldnt get in a Truck, they hit one another, they bang and they race hard.Them boys cant handle that shit. Love to see them get in the car at Hickory one night(F5 you know what I mean. Or have them race with the "old timers series" next year. The Fox will run into anyone damn one to this day.
Johnny B is a reject, Hornady is a reject. LMFAO.
No buddy you could even get the water boy thing right. Plus we dont allow plush bedroom slippers on pitraod with HMS logos...
You did get alot of one thing right though, You could not hold my freaking jock strap, lace my shoes, jump in front of a car and do shit in under 13.5 secs. I can see it now, you would freeze on the wall when you saw all of that rolling down (the pack). Then have to go change your HMS diaper.
You wouldnt have a clue how to hook the airgun in, calculate tire pressure with what the CC calls out.
Please also make me aware where you saw a front or rear tire changer pull off a windshield tear?
F5, big ole party sunday night. The Boss man is taking care of it all, plus Monday. Please dont forget to turn off the lights Sunday night at the checkered flag when you leave. Thanks

"How Sweeeeeeet It Is". Congratulations to Ron Hornaday, his team, and the Harvicks for winning the truck championship. They deserved it, they were the best team when they needed to be.
Kathy,
Your right, it was a boring race not typical of the truck series this year at all.
Posted by: SteveH. | Nov 16, 2007 10:55:53 PM
I agree Stricklinfan82, it reminded me of the Harvick situation a few weeks ago too.
Both of them had a great season and it'll be interesting to see if they can continue it next year too.
Posted by: Kathy | Nov 16, 2007 10:42:17 PM
Make that "dearly", not "nearly". LOL.
Posted by: stricklinfan82 | Nov 16, 2007 10:36:01 PM
It's a shame that a championship was likely decided by a team not spending an extra 7 seconds to change all 4 tires when their driver reported a vibration. It's not like changing left sides would have cost them an extra lap, so why take the gamble of hoping it was a right side issue? We've seen the same issue of only changing two tires under green cost Harvick and Bowyer nearly in Cup in recent weeks and today it very well could have been the reason Mike Skinner is not celebrating as series champion right now.
Congratulations to Ron Hornaday and Kevin Harvick though, as well to Mike Skinner who had a great year regardless of not winning the title.
Posted by: stricklinfan82 | Nov 16, 2007 10:34:29 PM
Congrats to Ron Hornaday for winning the truck championship and for Kevin and Delana Harvick, owners of the #33 truck.
Too bad for Skinner, can't say I am upset. :)
