NASCAR Banquet tonight
Just a reminder for those interested in watching, the NASCAR Awards Banquet will be on ESPNClassic tonight at 9 PM ET/8 PM CT. David Spade will be the "featured performer", I guess a new name for host? ESPN2 will re-air the ceremony at midnight.
Although I'm not that thrilled with the outcome of the season, I will be watching as there are some drivers I like that will be at the table tonight.
Will you be watching?

K2,I am sure the majority on here prefer your honest,heart-felt,cussing opinion based on what you see and feel are the issues in Today's Nascar rather than some know it all, facts oriented, suck up analysis.I usually agree with most of what you say and usually cuss right along with you to some of the posts and rebuttles on here. It's like you represent the old schoolers, the rough around the edges, tell it like it really is types. The ones that liked Nascar the way it was before Brian got his hands on it. We have the COT,Chase,Top 35,Robots,Sponsors,Suck Ass TV coverage except Speed, $$ driven Today's Nascar with cheaters that evolve into winners that result in TV ratings dropping, empty seats and pissed off bored fans looking for something else to do.Then you have the ones on here that seem to imulate Today's Nascar mentality. They think they are on a higher ground and they bring facts to the table or chastize someone for not doing spell check or think if they did something during their life that makes them better than us regulars blue collar types that cuss and drink beer and fart and could give a damn about facts and #'s.Who cares,so what if we wouldn't win a debate on Saved By The Bell. Each of us are intitled to our opinions so that is what makes a good blog.We see what we see on TV and @ the track and that is a poor product run by an idiot that has forgotten what made his family lots of $ and how it was built to be sucessful. We fuss and cuss.So all this means K2,keep up the good work! The majority on here are with you.Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all.......

Blueeyes,
You are dead on lady no one is perfect
J2,
Ok, this is me on no sleep for days. So its not PC.
LMFAO= laughing my f**king ass off at your stupidity, and your glorifying the HMS BS
You press me for no anwsers. When and if you do I will respond. A few weeks ago it took me 3 and 4 times to get nothing from you. You danced around it.... No wonder you are a HMS fan, you cant speak your mind...
On the "I need Gretchen and Kathy to take up for me"... Dude get a life.Go to your HMS world and live it. Last I checked Gretchen can damn sure handle herself.Kathy , chooses to ignore most of your dumbass , "lets revert to HMS post".
So on that , yes Kathy is a much better person than I am. I am not a robot who works for Rick. I have a mind a glady will express it..
Damn Kathy, I feel like Ironman with this moron....
Somehow J2 you will make this post into a praise HMS post.
Jon,
Umm Jr is going to Felon/convict and "I had lukemia" land. Known the kid since the Busch days, see its going to be hard to control his manner of speaking his mind..and we all know thats not acceptable at HMS.
Posted by: kurt2 | Dec 2, 2007 8:44:39 PM
I think Jr will be just fine at Felon Motorsports in 2008. He will be out of his element at the beginning, but I amn sure he will fit in.
BOOMER SOONER!!!!!!!!!!

Blueeyes,
I try to keep K2 on the up and up but am usually challenged in my endeavor.
Sometimes he has a habit of being out there on some of his comments as well as observations.
In addition, he tends to give the impression he's in on the know on some NASCAR matters because he's a pit crew member, but when pressed for details by me and a few others, starts the LMAOF thing, whatever that means, and :=< thing and if that doesn't work then he depends on Kathy or Gretchen to come to his rescue.

Up-scale, down-scale, it doesn't mean a
person is better than you, me or anyone
for that matter. Who knows, what he is
like in real life. Hey, none of us are
perfect and I don't pretend to be. Keep
being yourself, I enjoy reading your
comments.

Me and J2 will always be us... Shit happens and 2 different lifestyles.HE appears to be so upscale, me nah work where I do, so life is life we dont play PC BS.
I choose to work for a owner whom lets us have opinions.

Hey Kurt2 and Jon2
You guys really go after each other on
here but I bet, if you both could meet
each other in person, you would probably
become good friends. I have to laugh at
the way you two go after each other, it's
funny.
Anyway, you guy's have fun.

i'd hit that

I didn't see it because I had to work. Even if I could have seen it there was no way I would after seeing past banquets. The banquet is a waste of time - boring, repetitious, without any worthwhile value. Just close out the season and get to work getting ready for next year.

Oh I am home, and not traveling for a while, thank god.
How well Deb did you honor jr with Bud last night? LOL, that was good...

Race Fan, only the Top 10 teams go to NYC...11 and 12 get a congratulatory pat on the back, and a "thanks for stoppin'Buh Bye" AND a lovley parting gift!...Vanna tell them what they've won...

Nice post, Jeff Burton's speech was very
pleasant, he did a nice job. I'm with
you, I agree, it's "Merry Christmas" and
not "Happy Holidays".
Does anyone know why the #11 and #12
drivers were not included with the top 10?
Why would NASCAR allow 12 teams in the
Chase if only ten teams were going to be
acknowledged at the Awards Banquet?
Posted by: Race Fan | Dec 1, 2007 10:34:16 PM
I watched the awards last night and thought that it was very well conducted, but the two entertainers were mediocre to put it nicely. It seems that NASCAR could find people a bit more talented for their gala. I also noticed that Jeff Burton was the only speaker to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Is that part of the new image also? Happy Holidays just doesn't "cut it" with me. We have lots of holidays, but this one has a name. I also thought that the "chasers" had been increased to twelve this year; so where were the other two or did I miss something? I agree, too, that all those connected with the winning team should be on the main floor. Any awards won by them should also be awarded at the ceremony, not at the luncheon. The satistics show that Dale Jr. got approximately half of all the votes cast for most popular driver; that tells me that the fans are either still true to Sr. and are, therefore, voting for his closest relative or they can tell the difference between genuine and fake or both. At any rate, I hope that Jr. will remain the person he is when he joins the "elite" Hendricks group. His father never forgot who helped him and who his friends were when he had nothing, and I certainly hope Jr. will do the same. Winning is wonderful, but sportsmanship, honor and remembering your roots are more important. Now the the COT is the car of today, which cannot be altered in any way, why don't they just paint them those "pretty" pastel colors and have an IROC race every week? I notice that race went by the wayside; so maybe the entire sport will follow in it's footsteps. Change is a part of life, but all change is not progress; it takes work to determine what change is good and what is just expedient. By the way, the Awards Ceremony has traditionally been held in NYC, but it seems that many have no problem suggesting that it should be moved elswhere. Change is good if you agree with it and bad if you don't.

Deb
Going to be real hard on us to see Jr. at
Felon Motorsports.
No offense, but I'm a Dale Jr. fan and it
won't bother me in the least if he drives
for HMS. I don't care what organization
he drives for as long as he starts to win
races and hopefully a championship. He
definately wasn't going any where at DEI.
Posted by: Blueeyes | Dec 1, 2007 8:57:52 PM
Kurt2
You back in the south where you belong?? Didn't watch, cause I was honoring Jr with some Bud's. I heard how bad Joe Dirt was and the look on the Felon's face when Kyle was speaking. Soooo glad Kyle is away from there. Going to be real hard on us to see Jr at Felon Motorsports. Don't pay any attention to Jon2, cause he is still Hyperventilating over the Felon and his Boys. How long is this going to be in New York? Hell, do those people give 2 shits about Nascar? Do they even know what Nascar is? Hope you had fun and hope you are back safe.
Posted by: Deb | Dec 1, 2007 7:33:51 PM
J2, to your "next time you see JJ comment", is that in your wet fantasy island dreams?????
No dont like him, dont care. Have no issue with Jeff G at all...
Thought HMS was upscale? Rh and JJ last night werent, they did well with the fake shit when Kyle was there.LMFAO, he should have told them to eat crap and die:)
Last I saw Kurt is doing just fine... Kyle will be now he doesnt have to anwser to "de plane, de plane". Or be your typical HMS driver, a asskisser or licker, take your pick....One in the same
Posted by: kurt2 | Dec 1, 2007 6:29:10 PM
Next time I see JJ I'm gonna tell him to make certain he says hey to K2 'cause K2 thinks you don't like him.
JJ and RH were probably thinking of KB, good riddance and goodbye and none too soon. Four wins in four years and upteen wrecks just ain't good enough to make it at HMS.
Like Roush said about Kurt Busch, it's Penske's problem now, likewise Rick about KB, it's Gibb's problem now. It's time to give KB to Tony S. If Tony can't fix the problem it's hopeless.
Posted by: Jon2 | Dec 1, 2007 5:52:00 PM
Hey Fan#5
Not just Las Vegas, why not a different
city/town each year? Why does NASCAR think
it has to be in New York?????
I watched parts of it, boring to a certain
point.
Anyway, I'm glad Kirt2 had fun, guess
he's back in N.C. by now.
Posted by: Ran Fan | Dec 1, 2007 5:31:56 PM
Hey Jon, no offense but you did exactly
what you should have done.
Posted by: Blueeyes | Dec 1, 2007 5:18:34 PM
NASCAR, Why pick New York every year for
the banquet? Why not pick a different
city each year to hold the banquet for
instance, Las Vegas, Chicago, Detroit the
Motor City, Charlotte this is just a few,
I could go on and on.
I watched some of it but fell asleep be-
fore it was over.
I thought Carl Edwards made a good speech
but when they put the camera's on Matt
Kenseth, he had a smirk on his face.
Carl acknowledgd each driver at Raush
Fenway which was very nice.
NASCAR needs to make a change from New
York, it's the same old thing each year,
nothing exciting. There would be large
turn outs at other cities/towns.

RC was a happy happy man last night. Hit the party of parties, went to bed at 5 AM..

Posted by: Fan#5 | Dec 1, 2007 1:20:54 PM
Yes K2, KyB has come to the "Dark Side"...Bwaahahaha....my plot to take over the world is working!...BUT this Tony Stewart...hmmmm the force is STRONG in him!...maybe I should try for KH?...(old Jedi Mind trick)...I fell asleep for most of the show, woke up to see Boyer do his acceptance speech...Ol' Richard beamed with a tear in his eye, Made me happy! Did you crash the DEI after party? Glad you enjoyed it all!
Posted by: Fan#5 | Dec 1, 2007 1:19:59 PM
Spade sucked as any NASCAR function you must be "restrained"..
J2 this is for you buddy and anyone whom saw it can see it happened:
Could your favorite owner and JJ acted more like total assholes while Kyle B was being nice? Doubt it. Least the true colors of the onvict came out on TV for once, with his fake ass. JJ, puke now, with the fake smirk during Kyles speech as well.
Thank god the kid is out of Fantasy Island.
He should have walked up thanked them and then told RH, and JJ to F off.
But then, boom, oh (RH) :thank this one, this is great, balh blah blah", by that time you showed you were a fake ass already.
Left before Kimmie accepted and went up to change.
Jr fans, hope Jr can deal with "you arent allowed to have a opinion shit next year @ HMS"

Taped it, Watched it, BOOOOORING
David Spade sucked
Posted by: Donb | Dec 1, 2007 1:05:03 PM
Brian France continues to court the very city that unanimously rejected his plans for a track. Brian, they do not want you there! You're small potatos and your blood is no-where blue enough for the decades of old money there. Give it up! Have the banquet at Vegas or even Charlotte. They turn their towns out and welcome you.

I find it hard, very hard to watch hours of useless sponsor plugged speeches that sound like Michael Waltrip doing any given interview. Thats why I spent my time sleeping.

Hey Blueeyes,
I took your advice and switched the channel when it was time for them to bring whinie butt and JJ up to the stage. David Spade was pathetic as usaul and the speeches were all PC as expected.

J2,
Having a great time at the Waldorf, thanks for asking... Great hotel, guess I am staying upscale... and hell no i DO NOT WISH I WORKED for HMS, no thanks. Not interested,I prefer to have a mind of my own and be able to express and share them as i chose...
Short Lady,
To anwser you, the owner brought us up, as a thank you for the year.
F5, was right behind the Boss and the Bossman. Had to come up now and lose this damn TUX.
Heading back down now, my year is now over....

Blueeyes,
Well said!
Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the awards...as I can not get ESPN Classic in HK. But I do get to return to NC for Christmas and I had a friend Tivo it for me so I can watch it later.
Posted by: NC Expat in Hong Kong | Dec 1, 2007 12:01:53 AM
The awards show is a part of nascar that kinda seems odd....not the fact that the drivers are being celebrated, just that its in NEW YORK ,and that everyones dressed up..kinda gets totally away from that "good 'ol boy" image..I'm glad their getting a big ovation and everything, but the show just seems too glamorous for the sport.

Yes, I'll be watching the NASCAR Awards
Banquet tonight. My favorite driver
didn't win the championship nor did he
come close but HMS did a great job and
they deserve it. Jimmie Johnson and Chad
Knaus deserve to be congratulated and
Jeff Gordon also did a great job.
Great going HMS, maybe next year one of
my drivers will win it, I hope.
Posted by: Angel | Nov 30, 2007 9:01:53 PM
First, let me say, I am not a fan of J.J.
but I don't hate him either nor do I hate
Hendrick Motor Sports. They deserved this
championship, they earned it. Yes, I will
be watching the NASCAR AWARDS BANQUET
tonght and for those of you who have so
much hate for HMS, you can always switch
channels.
Short Lady
The only reason I can come up with as to
why fans don't like Johnson is, he's a
winner and beats their favorite driver.
You are so right, J.J. is a great driver
and I give him credit for winning another
championship. I fail to understand, how
some people can be so obnoxious or maybe,
they just want to be noticed.
I'm a Dale Jr. fan and I just wish he
could have done better this year. I hope
he will have a chance at the championship
next year. One thing for sure, he will
have a lot better equipment then he had
at DEI. Yes, Dale Jr. won the most Popular
Driver Awards this year and he will
continue to win it just like Bill Elliot
did.

is that best guy in hollywood BF can find for this show?? whats the guy's real claim to fame,?? snagging what's her name heather locklear when she was desperate and on a bitter rebound, he is living proof that in show bizz, ugly loser guys can get great looking women!!

In a word...NO!I shall being downing 25 oz Boolites and a shot or 3 of Grey Goose @ my fav Mexican establishment. That's the only facts I can bring to the table on this topic.God,I hope next year isn't the same as this.It could get worse!Good for HMS,as boring as they won't to be.....My driver is probably doing the same as me except he probably is really in Mexico or in the desert somewhere.I did like Joe Dirt, funny and with a hottie!
Posted by: DJ | Nov 30, 2007 6:44:32 PM
This year Jr is most popular. Next year he will be most popular and successful.

There's limited room in the grand ballroom at the Waldorf.Sometimes they have to put extra team members from the champions team into an overflow room.If you watch, you'll see they only have the OTW/raceday guys in the balcony seats. The shop guys will be in another room. They have a lot of sponsor tables, contingency awards people, even race tracks are represented.

Jon2,
Almost forgot. Who is the most pop driver this year. It ain't one of your Felon Boys. Oh, that's right it's Jr, Jr, Jr, Jr, as in Earnhardt. It's not one of the Felon Boys. Jr,Jr,Jr! Here's a Bud for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Deb | Nov 30, 2007 4:21:08 PM
Jon2,
Larry The Cable Guy would be best for you and the Felon Motorsports Team. The Felon Got-R-Done again. Get yourself a Satillite so you can drool all over your tv tonight. Joe Dirt IS the best choice for the Felon and his Boys. Here's A Bud for you!!!!!
Posted by: Deb | Nov 30, 2007 4:15:20 PM
Short Lady,
He wishes he worked for them.
Good point. Not only is Jimmie a winner, but his mentor decimated the Earnhardt Nation and they've never forgiven him for that which also plays big as to the reason why some hate these two winners.
