Old School Racing Champion's Tour - Will it give us some good old school racing?
This has been out for a while now, but there's a new series that's going to be running some races around the same venues as NASCAR does. Old School Racing Champion's Tour is a new series to start in 2008, there will only be 10 races on the regular schedule, a "Last Chance" race and then a "Championship Race". They will run on short tracks, that is tracks 3/4 mile or smaller, and be only 100 laps or less depending on the track.
Eligible drivers are previous NASCAR Cup, Busch, Truck race winners, series champions from ARCA, CART and Indy Car, and previous Indy 500 winners that are not currently competing full time in any of the previous series. There will be 15 drivers competing in each regular season race and 20 drivers in the OSRCT Championship Races.
You can read more on the series here. They even have a picture of one of the cars there now.
I think it sounds interesting and gives older drivers a chance to race when they still want to without the grueling schedule like other series, like NASCAR, has. This allows them to prove, at a different level, that they can still compete and have fun. Right now they have about 26 drivers listed, some you may recognize, like Phil Parsons, David and Larry Pearson, Geoff Bodine and Andy Hillenburg, just to name a few. I think if you take a look at their list, there should be quite a few you recognize.
I guess the biggest question is how will it be received? I think it sounds interesting, I think the during the week thing may hurt attendance though, other than locals, I don't think you'll have people traveling far to see one of these during the week. If one was close to me, I'd go watch.
I think it would be great if they got some TV coverage though, haven't heard anything about that. I think SPEED should take a look and see if they can get involved, I know lots of fans that would tune in to watch some old school short track racing.
Your thoughts?

name
All Dick no Trickle.
That's a great name for a team. LMAO.

Bandit,
I say shoot for the stars Jimmie!
He's not my fav driver. He'll never have the following like a Jeff or Junior.
In my opinion, one of the reasons Jeff got his following was because he was doing battle with #3 and it was a big rivalry. #3 had a great fan base, but at the same time had a lot who didn't like him who gravitated to Jeff who they felt could dethrone #3.
Jimmie doesn't have that aura around him. Seems like a very nice guy. Interviews well. But I don't think he'll ever be a Jeff G, Junior, or Tony S when it comes to the popularity thing.

dont know much about Tebow except he can win 2 heismann's
the nfl draft is such a crap shoot just ask the falcons who took MV instead of LT, smart teams draft chararcter rather than stats/speed.
this should be interesting as most of us ole gezers like me, have seen the 17-0 dolphins, 85 bears, 49'ers, 80's steeler and maybe now a 19-0 pats and the sour doughnut and 13-16 07 dolphins lol

these 3rd generations guys mmmmm what do they say about them they are genetically programned to fk-up the busninesses they inheirite
IMO opinion Lisa should be running nascar
i dont have the answere with what type of person should be running a series the dictators like the frances or the 12 wisemen/owners like u have in cart?? or who ever runs and owns these series
some days one feels like its some banana repuplic running these series especially nasacr when it comes to fines, rules ect the only consistant thing is that they are inconsistant in thier rules in nascar!

Dottie,
Thanks for the info on Stremme. He's my kind of racer and he's a Hoosier. I hope he gets a decent ride so he can show his talent.

"Don’t respond to anything he writes. He seems to thrive on the attention, don’t give it to him. Sorry if I am out of line,
you have to have sparring partners lol right?? its no fun shadow boxing all day"
I hear ya, and that's not exactly how I meant it. Basically, I was trying to say pick your battles don't get goaded into one and fight on their terms, know what I mean?
Also, I agree 100% with everyones comments about BF ruining NASCAR (that dude needs to take a long walk off a short pier!). That's pretty much why I don't really watch it that much anymore. Read a little here and there, catch the end of a few races, watch the highlights on the news and thats about it for me now. It's a shame too, caus I really enjoyed racing and now it seems to soap opera-ish or something. Oh well, they can never take the memories away right?

Agg,
No road course for the Geeeeeeezers. They are best turning left beatin and bangin. No way on Tebow. He's a good guy, but he is the enemy! I hope he stays in school, cause he's a young thing and next year he could kick our ass here between the Hedges. Have to wait and see how we deal with the enemy.

How about a road course for this new series? Maybe out in Vegas at ceasars palace and call it the "geeezers at ceasars 250"
Have you come out of the ether on Teeeeebow or what ever his name is lol

John Boy,
I'm fine! I'll have fun to the bitter end. Brian and his Candy Ass Nascar has to go away now. The old dudes are what Nascar is and Brian does not have a clue as to what the fans want. I don't care what the new young fans want. They were not a part of the old days. If you can not handle the word shit then turn off your TV!
Posted by: Deb | Dec 11, 2007 11:05:25 PM
Agg,
John does not get the concept of Brian's new Nascar. I can't explain it any better. There is NO Love Lost Here. Understand it or get off the pot. This is why I have bitched about Brian for so long. He needs to go away in which ever way. I don't care. Brian is turning Nascar into a Candy Ass sport. The old dudes are not a part of Brian's new Candy Ass Nascar. That's as plain as I can put it.
Posted by: Deb | Dec 11, 2007 10:38:17 PM
Deb,
Lighten up girl, I was just teasin you back a little! I don't have a bit of problem with what your saying. I am right with you about Brian PC-ing Nascar. That's why so many of the fans relive the old days so often. We liked to see Rusty threatin to whip Dale Srs. ass and then have to have Jerry Punch step in to keep the old man from opening up a can on him!
I would have loved to have seen that one come off! When Dale sr. got through whippin Rusty "whinebag" Wallace, it would have been a major attitude adjustment!

The series sounds good to me. Harry Gant is a good choice, but I will put my money on Dick Trickle. He did fair in the cup cars in what he was running. But you could always tell the short tracks were thing...Will be looking forward to it.....
Posted by: Gil | Dec 11, 2007 9:27:08 PM
It seems everyone is anxious to see the
old timers race again, I can't wait for
them to start. My pick will be that
handsome Harry Gant. Just hope the races
will be televised. Does anyone know how
many drivers have signed up to drive and
will each driver, drive in all ten races?
Posted by: Blueeyes | Dec 11, 2007 8:29:35 PM
Kurt2,
I am looking forward to this series, it shows respect to some of the drivers who put nascar on the map.I was, still am, and will always be a Harry Gant FANatic, have his autograph 33 times, alot of collectables. I live 5 miles from Sothside speedway, (one of the OTR tracks) and 90 miles from South Boston, and will be there at both pulling for the series and not just Harry....O.K still for Harry, but hope this senior series prospers and brings back the nascar fans who remember racing when it was real racing and not just fast billboards with pretty boy drivers.

Gretch,
Tebow is so sweet, you just want to hug him so bad. He makes me want to cry and if any of my old Dawgs saw that in me that would want to whoop my Ass. The guy is great off the field as on the field. Whatever he does in the future, God will bless him so much, cause he is just that kind of guy. He is the enemy though and we played so hard to beat the enemy.

Howdy Folks....long time reader first time poster! I've been lurking for a couple of months now and I finally had to comment on something.........Kurt2 and Fan#5 it seems that we all grew up watching, loving and living racing. This guy Jon2 is obviously new to this sport and I say obviously simply because I have seen the type. My cousin acted like a real dick when he first was introduced to racing too until he realized that being an asshole about this driver and that driver is not what it was all about (incidentally he is a JG fan too. I do believe that the worst thing about JG is his fans [not really, I met JG a couple of times and just seemed like kind of a pansy compared to say Earnhardt, or MM or Ernie Irvine. That’s just my impression of him, not that it means sh!t]). My point…..my cousin had to learn this on his own and Jon2 will have to learn it on his own too. Actually, I think the guy enjoys pissing you all off. I am not attacking Jon2. I am sure he is a good guy normally but he is definitely on the “immature” side of racing. You really want to ruin this guy’s evening? Don’t respond to anything he writes. He seems to thrive on the attention, don’t give it to him. Sorry if I am out of line, I just had to say something. Well, I will probably be chewed out by J2 but that’s the way it goes I guess.
Anyway, I enjoy reading most of the comments here. Kurt2 and Fan#5 you two definitely knowledgeable in your field and I know exactly what you both are talking about with the “under the rug” stuff. I spent quite a bit of time in the pits and garages (mainly in Atlanta, Darlington, Charlotte and Rockingham) and saw a lot of questionable stuff that never made it in the news. Hell, I even partied with some of the pit crews (maybe even you Kurt2!) while camping at Charlotte and saw a ton of sh!t go down. Those guys were just plain nuts! Anyway, I used to work for what used to be a major sponsor for many years and we did some stuff that was…….how shall I put this……..a little grey maybe. I know for a fact that some of our stuff directly helped one driver get his first win. I know NASCAR inspectors found some of the stuff because they called us on it. The team and driver were not penalized or anything. That was some years ago though……man those were the days, but I digress………..
Sorry for the rant………
Back on topic………..I can’t wait to see the “old timers” back on the track. I too think that “Handsome Harry Gant” is a safe bet. I hope these races really happen! Just drop the rag and lets go!!!!!!!!!

I didn't mean for it to offend you. It's
just that I have nothing for Michael Vick
after the terrible thing he did to those
animals. I have a golden retriver and I
love her, just don't like to see animals
mistreated. I apologize if I offended you.
Posted by: Dottie | Dec 11, 2007 6:05:49 PM
Deb, what kills me about Tebow is that it's damn near impossible not to like the kid after you hear him talk. I mean the kid grew up a gator fan, and couldn't be more proud of the fact that he is a damn gator. I have to admire that. He cries when they lose and I lmao at him, but that emotion is rare in these athletes today. And I like to see that emotion. I want it to hurt when they lose. Moreno and Stafford are great football players, but they have no emotional ties to Georgia, as David Pollack, Eric Zier, David Greene, and Hershel did. Matt's parents went to FSU and Moreno can't name ONE former Bulldog player other than Hershel. I think it's WAAAYYY cool that Teblow loves his football team the way he does. The kid bleeds orange and blue, and it's kind of refreshing in some f'd up way to me. I was happy for him.
And...................we sacked the 2007 Heisman trophy winner 6 times in rout to a good ole fashioned around around A$$ whoopin in Alltel Stadium!!! WOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!
Posted by: Gretchen | Dec 11, 2007 4:54:57 PM
Dottie,
Tebow is a great Christian guy and God has blessed him greatly, but don't take everything we say so serious. The Gators are our rival and we worked mighty hard to beat those Gators in Gator land and I'm so proud of my Dawgs. It's just a college rival thing.
Posted by: Deb | Dec 11, 2007 4:46:47 PM
Well Jon2...seeing as your a "Newbie" who is still wet behind the ears, Fan#5 has no reference to KyB...althought, He did show signs of maturity this year...outside of the deal at the Lowes Motorspeedway that turned your "love buddy" into an Ogre!...Yes I do welcome him to the Toyota family, Along with Mike Wallace also...and I'm sure that he'll be fine at JGR.
K2 did you notice his "tapdance" when I axed him a question?!
Posted by: Fan#5 | Dec 11, 2007 4:39:42 PM
Yeah, they've made an example of Vick, but oh well. I only wish they'd made such a good "example" out of Rae Carruth ( who IMO got off WAAAYYYY too easy with only a 19 yr sentence), Mike Danton- (NHL star that hired hitman to kill his agent), and my OTHER favorite thug Ray f***ing Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens. Now THAT P.O.S. got a years probation and NO jail time after pleading down in exchange for his testimony in a DOUBLE HOMICIDE which he was involved in up to his raunchy neck.
Unfortunately for Mike, society has thankfully grown weary and tired of pro athletes behaving like punk a$$ thugs and being adored by millions of young people in exchange for said behavior.

Dottie,
Thanks, I'm hoping for just rain, not freezing rain or snow. Our weather is so strange - it was in the mid 30s yesterday, it's supposed to be about 50 today, then tomorrow it's supposed to be back in the low 30s with freezing rain. As they say - if you get tired of Indiana's weather, stick around because it will surely change.
Can anyone tell me the details about SPEED Channel cutting back on their racing coverage? Does that include NASCAR or is it just the UAR Hooters and some of the off-beat racing? I want more NASCAR coverage on SPEED not less.

I don't even dislike TT enough to put him
in with Vick...LOL
Gretchen, I agree with you, I wouldn't
compare him with that low life Michael
Vick and his cronies. Vick deserved five
years plus for what he did to those poor
animals. I hope his NFL career is ruined
for life. I would like to see him rot in
prison, he's trash.

John,
You aren't getting it. Dale Jr got fined for saying shit. Mark Martin is a great guy, but if he screws up 1 time then he is fined. This has Nothing to do with Any of the drivers. It's all about what Brian expects these drivers to be like. They have emotion and they do say shit. These guys race on thin ice and when they do something that Brian doesn't like then they are fined. I can't put it any more plain than that. Brian's Candy Ass Nascar. The old guys could show their emotion and they did scratch and spit and they did fight and they said shit and alot worse. Can you hear me now?
Posted by: Deb | Dec 11, 2007 3:22:11 PM

Kathy got. Good luck, hope it misses you.

Fan#5,
I know one thing ain't there anymore and it's your idiot driver.
Four years, only four wins in some of the best equipment that money can buy and with the best org in the business. So long and good riddance, it's Joe Gibb's problem now.

Jon2, S'plain something will ya? how in THE samhell can someone living in NC be so ignorant of Nascar?...You are a either a transplanted yankee or a Middle school yankee! Maybe it's I grew up with the sport...Once again, IF you do live here...a VERY SCARY thought, You need to venture to HMS and see whats NOT there.
Posted by: Fan #5 | Dec 11, 2007 2:49:56 PM
Deb,
Okay but if your gonna call my driver a candy ass then you have to include Dale jr. He couldn't even get along with his step momma! WAAH WAAH WAAH!
Gretchen,
That's funny! A whole loaf of bread? Must have been Rainbow brand cause, it's the 8 hour loaf! LOL "Thats what we use to call the supervisors at my old job, 8 hour loafs!

Posted by: Gretchen | Dec 11, 2007 2:34:22 PM
John,
No, No! It's the way Brian wants the drivers to be now. That's the Candy Ass I'm talking about. No showing emotion, no beatin and bangin, no saying shit, no scratchin and spittin, no pushin and shovin, no real racin, no more Good-OL-Boy mentality, no southern redneck. Brian wants these guys to drip with sweet honey and glitz and glamour and Holly freakin Wood. That is the Cany Ass I'm talking about. The old dudes didn't come up in Brians glitz and glamour. Brian wishes he could have 43 Johnson's and Gordon's. Don't make me put you in that same Gator Pond with Vick and Tebow.

K2,
I believe it was several more times than two that I declined your offer. Didn't mean to hurt your feelings. But thanks anyway Kathy pretty much satisfied any question in my mind that you were in fact a pit crew member.
You weren't going to take me out to eat? Now that hurts.
Deb,

So now we ae on agreement, 2 invites, since you need so much proved and you have declined me two times... I dont know for the finla time who the hell RED is. Do I need to ask Kahty to do a blog on nicknames or post that Rooster, is Jeff Cook, JACKMAN for the 24. damn to be so intelligent I swaer you miss alot...
So now with the invitations extended. As I said, "put up or shut up".. Thank you and have a lovely day..
Frightens the hell out of me you are in NC... Wasnt about to go to dinner with you, invited you to see how my day went... it was cordial.
Posted by: Kurt2 | Dec 11, 2007 12:25:26 PM
K2,
No. Not gonna visit you at the track, nor your recovery facility in Charlotte. I know you're disappointed.
Don't wanta break bread with you.
Prefer this virtual distance between the two of us.
Plus, Kathy a while back confirmed to me that you were a pit crew member and that resolved the issue of my having to eyeball you with your airgun in so and so's pit area in order to confirm you were who you said you were. So, said all that to say this, the visit ain't necessary. But thanks for the invite anyway I'm certain you and Rooster or Red would have been gracious hosts.
I can't believe I'd ever see 74f Mid-December in North Carolina. I'm wearing my shorts today. TG-d I'll be in Indiana latter part of the month and hopefully see some snow. Where is Al Gore when we need him?
