Edwards wins the rain delayed Fontana race
Today fans finally got to see the race and it was typical of the California race today without a ton of cautions, unlike yesterday. Today showed long green flag runs and the leader basically running away with the race, which is typical of this track. After the last caution the race went green on lap 224 - Carl Edwards was in fourth, but thanks to Gordon and Johnson fighting for the lead among themselves, it allowed Edwards to get past the third place car and the other lap cars. Johnson beat out Gordon in their fight for the lead, but Edwards was closing fast, Gordon didn't fight Edwards too much, which surprised me, but Johnson did put up a fight until Edwards finally cleared him and then he just cruised away.
Another good finish for Kahne and his fans, hopefully leaving last years dreadful performance behind them. Kyle Busch and Martin Truex also had top ten finishes, drivers most people said wouldn't be a factor this year, add Vickers with his 11th place finish and we're seeing some different drivers finishing near the top so far this year, which is good.
Two races down and two different winners, a good start to the season!
Your thoughts?

Whoops, KyB just scraped the wall with his Cup car. K2, how many cars have hit the wall this weekend?
Posted by: Diane | Mar 1, 2008 2:22:31 PM
Looks like our young phenom got a little greedy in "Cup Lite" qualifying today. It might have been immaturity or ego since his first lap had him in 3rd. But he was man enough in an interview later to call himself an idiot for trying for more. Too bad a good qualifying run has turned into a backup car, a lot of work for the crew & shop plus a start at the rear of the field. But I bet he'll make it to the front in no time.

Ganne
how about the jeremy cryfield?? wtf is he doing qualifying that well
honestly KK already has what more or 1/2 the top 10's he had all of last year...... its an even year KK is going to be ok
honestly some guys after this weekend and in the next races are going to dig holes so deep that their season is going to be over .........cm has to have a top 5 very soon or ITS over for cm for 08
what did i read in the past after 5 races, 75% of the guys in the top 10-12now make the chase.......KEEP that in mind in 3-4 weeks
Posted by: aggie | Mar 1, 2008 12:03:35 PM
Aggie: It snuck up on him. Kenny surprised him with it this time, or maybe he was still practicing his dance moves and let go of the wheel! Just wait and see, that crow is waiting for ya!!

Graceann,
He hit the wall in practice. Not bad enough to go to a backup car but I don't believe he was able to get back out and run any more laps before practice ended. So when he went out to qualify, he probably wasn't quite sure what he had and just drove safe. Six Dodges spun in practice, including Bobby L., who had to go to a backup car.
Posted by: Kari | Feb 29, 2008 9:12:36 PM
Hey, what happened at qualifying? Had to run to Funeral Home to do some hair and missed KK, heard he hit the wall. Fill me in. Seen the new commercial, I agree with KK, needs to keep his day job, lol. I couldn't do any better though. Gotta admit he is getting braver.

Graceann,
New Allstate Girls commercial is up on nascar.com. It's hysterical!

Sorry, off subject, but I just read a great story about Tim Richmond. I know some of you were fans of his like I was. Here's the link: http://www.frontstretch.com/tthompson/14835/
It's a shame that so little was known about HIV back then. Maybe Tim wouldn't have been shunned they way he was, if people had understood. He was a great wheel man.

Comments from Aggie and Jon2 made me fall out of my chair. I am in utter disbelief. I might even smile today.

I guess at race 18, 20 and 36 it "still we too early to tell" since in your opinon "kyle learned and took so much from his tenure at HMS, which made hime the racer he is this year"...
Now I am going to eat ricin posion then barf on that note.
Late in last years season Kyle didnt give a F*** so he was in a good mood to leave the juggernaught.. Hell he was in a good mood by then, who wouldnt be.
Posted by: Kurt2 | Feb 29, 2008 12:31:41 PM
Just read this at NASCAR.com some of the writers over there are conversing about Kyle and one of them, a Joe Menzer, had this to say:
"......And Felix Sabates said Rick Hendrick told him that if Kyle had acted earlier like he did over the last part of last season, he NEVER WOULD HAVE PARTED WAYS WITH HIM (my caps)."
Looks like Rick's having second thoughts about having scooted Kyle out the door.
Did the HMS juggernaut make a mistake?
Don't know, he's done very well so far, but the season is still early and hindsight is always 20/20, time will tell.

Ganne seems like it and i'll always say its people that make these teams succesfull
its like the bs at we read and yak about on here about hms and teams about who shares what info ect ITS a team sport at the end of the day and the cc & driver spotter trio all have to be in sync and have the utmost trust in one another
look at the calirace, ck and JJ simple out smarted the 24 on pitlane...so who to some degree f ---ken cares who gets what equipment and hp numbers, they all have great stiff on the top 4 teams
ck and JJ just make the LEAST msitakes on any team, that is one reason
how many brain farts do u recall JJ or cj having?? not many but otehrs guys u can recall so many its not even funny
those stops of the killer bees last week just blew me away..the sub 11 seconds stops, unreal
RR must be mising being that action?????
Ganne this weekend look for the silent asasins like the 2-17 31 07 but u know at the end of the day that 48-18-14 20 ok 9 :) will be there
chalk up 3 zip for kyb over jr

Aggie: Mark has sooo much influence over the GEM teams that he is gonna put KK backin contention for the cup!! hehehehe Thought you would like my input.

Rad
I didn't really like his TV persona but understand he was, in real life, a real stand-up guy
yeah well RAD u know how TV is?? going to be interesting how jo runs the co and much more of a role duanne will play in the company........as for tv shows look at bikes & hd's, they boosted the industry with all the chopper bs shows and now you have what one show?? TV is good and bad many times for a niche sport or industry

how much has that mark mcardle been a factor for the success at gem this early in the season??
just curious of him Managing Director of Competition posistion of there allows him to focus more on the track side of things
what does a Director of Competition do anyway??

K2,
I'll be on the lookout for them. Will HMS's Rooster or Rad(oo)ster be leading the commando group?
RE: HMS lifter issues.
"They are having lifter issues and a few more things.."
Posted by: Kurt2 | Feb 28, 2008 11:33:03 AM
I heard also that Junior's engine was failing him. Probably the same issues that Jeff had at Calie.
What were those "few more things" going on at HMS? I'd be interested to know since I'm a big fan of HMS.

DJ, I am ready! Did you get the email I sent you? I have started reading it already! Gonna get myself really hiped for this game! HAHA Q has really stepped up his game and done a GREAT job for the Heels. And Hansbrough, well what can you say, the boy is a BEAST! Psyco-T is a fitting nickname for him! As for Lawson, man I don't know what to think......sure is a dissapointment though. I will just leave it at that. Duke looks like they have a little bit of a confidence problem right now or something. Definetly not the best they've looked.
Sorry to hear about Boyd Coddington. I didn't really like his TV persona but understand he was, in real life, a real stand-up guy. He will be missed.
Oh, and speaking of nicknames, I am not nor have ever been called "Rooster". I have been called Rad, Radman, The Bear and a few other choice words but never Rooster. And I don't work for nor ever would work for JG and hms. I am not PC or a criminal so I really wouldn't fit in. DJ and K2 know what I do for a living and can vouch for that. Just wanted to clear that up for everyone here on the board.
Ya'll have anice day...........

K2,your boys still look like a different team.I'm sure K will get them right for Cameron.Lawson is kinda reminding me of a..well you know.UNC has rallied around Q and Hans is a freak.Looking forward to it.What say you Radster?
Cali was BS.Come on, the lead changes is a joke when Dario Franchetti leads a lap.I see where they are wanting to high bank it?Wouldn't hurt.I see Nascrap will do whatever it takes to keep 2 races. What a joke.Maybe Vegas will offer a better race. What are the "odds",get it?
Outstanding idea Agg,I golf it and maybe I can find a JPM logo and let it rip. However,if I hook it I can do like he does and blame it on everything but him!!LOL!
Well, going to meet my softball buds and consume mass quantities.Logged 3 miles of cardio and benched a lb or two, topped off with a visit to the fat boy room(steam room).Ahhh, sweat it out just to re-fuel with adult contents........

LMAO @ DJisms. :D
Posted by: Barb g | Feb 28, 2008 5:19:11 PM
aggie, I'm not trying to answer for k2. But, I'll give my opinion.
I think it's a similar situation to what Cup had a couple of years ago: field-fillers. Teams make the race and then run a few laps, knowing they won't get a good finish, and then step out.
It's all for profit. They longer they run, the more the tire bill will add up to. The last place finisher, in Cali, earned a little over $22,000. If they run the whole race and use all their allotted tires (I can't remember off the top of my head how many sets they can use) they will make less than if they just use one set of tires.

K2
Aggie, if you asked about the 24's engine it went poof on the last lap. They are having lifter issues and a few more things..
thank god we only buy our harley valve springs from the guys hms does and not the lifters lol stock sbc lifters work great on these hd's
k2 what about the NNs and the parked cars??
and yeah i know u could write a thesis on whats wrong with the nns series??
how about flying the wife and getting remarried at the lil wedding chapel??
hey k2 do u golf?/ if u do go out to that driving range by the private airfield and take CB, & KH and get a 1000 JPM face logoed balls and smack them out to the fence
Posted by: aggie | Feb 28, 2008 2:48:31 PM
k2 iam sleeping here i think or all amped out lol
k2 is that true u saw jeff throw out of window the horsehsoe that he pulled out of his ass on that last Lap just after his engine went pooof lol
Now are you using it for good luck in vegas and with your own team this weeknd for good luck lol
Posted by: aggie | Feb 28, 2008 2:37:01 PM
Yeah there were a record nuymber of lead changes based on the stupidity to start the race. if you notice every chance we got and sometimes didnt they all came in. Hence lead changes and cars staying out for the 5 points to lead a lap.Till when we thought we would get to halfway and end the damn day..
It was a usual boring ass CA race, then lets enter the debacle CUP created for the 5 , 77 and 88
J2, listen outside carfully during the week of the ALL STAR race, a balck helicopter might hover over your house and a bunch of (as you put it last year) bubbas will jump out in the yard, run around, pee beer and leave.:). Since we "hear things" and imagine things.
Aggie, if you asked about the 24's engine it went poof on the last lap. They are having lifter issues and a few more things..
Posted by: Kurt2 | Feb 28, 2008 2:33:03 PM
j2
For instance there were 30+ lead changes at Fontana, a number never matched using the prior car.
ok and as always not get into a pisisng match today ok as iam not drinking beer so u will win lol
check out the lead changes as that number is very misleading OK
its kind of one things that they say in sports ....stats are for losers RIGHT!!
of the 32 lead “changes”.......a new “record” but, that’s because most of those occurred during a cycle of green flag pit stops, where cars will surrender the lead to slower backmarkers who inherit the top spot simply because they have better fuel mileage. this stat should be “passes for the lead under green;” ............ as far as I’m concerned, no way the California race was record-setting in terms of competition on the race track.........its a bull shit nascar BF stat for guys to sit around and yak about like your doing
so no more mention od lead chnages in relationship to how competive a race was?? RIGHT??
Hey all i can say is its going to be a great year we'll have fun with the bs till ricmond, then for 9 races its real racing and one great race to see who wins it all and of course all the great races inbetween at the true (non cookie cutter) tracks
story of the year is still going to be Jr not doing that great at HMS
k2 is that true u saw Jeff pull a horse out of his ass on that last tap as he threw out the window?? and his engine wnet pooof lol are you usiing it for good luck now on your team lol
Posted by: aggie | Feb 28, 2008 2:22:52 PM
DJ,
LMAO on that one. Nice "ism"....:)
BTW got to see the 2nd half of the Devils last night...Looked okay, just okay. Kid from Ga Tech (white guy) has guts.No left knee and a concussion, still played his heart out.
The date is fast approaching in Durham...
Going to stroll over to the track for a bit and enjoy the last day of freedom.. No rain for this weekend, thank god home after words then to ATL...
Posted by: Kurt2 | Feb 28, 2008 2:14:44 PM
J2...The fear I see thru this pc is in your eyes man.You spew about "Winners" this a HMS that. What I was referring to was that.Your boys the 24 and 48 are where in the points? They have won what this year?HMS had a great year last year.LAST YEAR.Everyone is catching or caught them with the technology.......
As far as the Rooster and Rick order I could give a crap about,so not sure where you are with that. That is K2's knowledge.
As far as "ism's" like K2...nope got my on DJism's..Here's one...Blow it out your ass!

Dont believe I am saying this for what seems like 1000 times J2.
Rooster is Jeff G. Jackman. I am afraid with all your plethora of HMS knowledge and insight you werent aware of that.
Radster is a person on here.
You have heard not a word from kyle now for a few reasons.
1) he is over the BS PC Crap over there. Doesnt have to deal with the "yes sir, no sir" mentality...
Posted by: Kurt2 | Feb 28, 2008 11:48:27 AM
Aggie,
The COT will bring parity to the sport, no doubt. You're correct, of the three major races run this year (I include the shootout) three diff mfgrs won. I don't believe HMS is going to dominate like they did last year. I believe they'll still be the pick of the field but not in a repeat fashion like last.
We're now seeing drivers in or near the top ten that were seldom if ever there last year and all this because of the COT.
"No rookie finishing in the top 5 at any race."
You wanna make this interesting?
Racing looks like it's going to get more exciting this year. For instance there were 30+ lead changes at Fontana, a number never matched using the prior car.
Posted by: Jon2 | Feb 28, 2008 10:21:17 AM
Back to the how things are shaking out in 07 after 2 races and I know its only 2 races……….
Did you guys notice That other than Jeff Gordon’s lucky break on the final lap, there were a total of zero engine failures at Cali……
And this one on hwo important it is to be on the right team
Average finish for Kyle Busch in two starts with Joe Gibbs Racing: 4th. Average finish for J.J. Yeley in two starts with the single-car program of Hall of Fame Racing : 27th, with zero laps led. Now tell me being with the right team don’t matter
Also see, How quickly and easily Jeff Burton and Clint Bowyer swept their controversy under the rug after Daytona — as opposed to Matt Kenseth and some of the other teams………..shows the class and respects amongst rcr’s 3 drivers, not some punk ass move like that puke phoney CE had with MK
Jon 2 & K2…………..i think way back when k2 u said something about parity and surprises for 08 and jon there is no way that hms or chev will have that mamy wins to feed all those egos at hms and YES I know its only 2 races into 08
Just look at the competitiveness in cali and I know iam eating crow over Dtona OK lol
The finally tally of Top-10 in California two Fords, two Dodges, two Toyotas, and four Chevrolets.
Compare that to 2007, where seven Chevrolets finished in the first nine positions.
with this kind of competiveness coming to us in 08.........i'll say this and i hope no more crow lol as iam running out of jd bbq sauce lol.....NO ROOKIE will finsh in the top 5 at any race even those ringers like JPM, bs, PC Sh jr ect ect and they will get their asses handed to them by the good ole us guys
Posted by: aggie | Feb 28, 2008 10:07:18 AM
K2,
Uh, Jack Roush said Kurt's Penske Racing's problem now. Ain't me talking or raising the issue about a problem driver, that was Jack who knew the guy better'n any of us and in light of that fact, I'll go with Jack's observation about Kurt's time at Roush. Jack said he was a problem, you indicate not, this was an easy call, I'll believe Jack.
Aggie,
As I have said before I wish KYB all the luck in the world in his new gig. It's unfortunate it didn't work out with HMS but hey that's life.
DJ,
Fear of what?
JJ & JG finished dos & tres at Fontana. Jimmie's won the past three races at Vegas hasn't he and'll probably run well at this upcoming one as will Jeff and Junior. So far so good. I ain't breaking any sweat.
KYB and for certain RG ain't close to the skill set of a Tony Stewart, so please insult some other driver with your comparison.
Kyle was held back by Rick? And those words were uttered by one of the most outspoken drivers in the CUP series who now that he's not employed by the Dark Side, he can say what's on his mind regarding prior or current events. Ain't a word issued forth from his mouth about being held back. Oh I forgot - it must have been the Rick Order you're referring to. You know the one that K2 and some guy named Rooster or was it Rad(oo)ster, allegedly heard Rick tell someone, something, in the #5 team last year. Really DJ, save yourself and don't go falling into the K2isms category of HMS conspiracies, black unmarked helicopters seen over the HMS garages, that sort of crap.
Diane,
Could've been. But I like my take on it, one Busch was enough for Jack.
Posted by: Jon2 | Feb 28, 2008 9:47:25 AM
k2
can u please explain to me/us
this in the NNS
There were no less than half-a-dozen cars who start and parked in the Nationwide race at California Monday
park cars?? the tv guy parsons did it for his 2 cars??
wtf they drag the cars out there and dont race?? what is this just for sponsers pr??

yeah those 3 deaths hurt the 2 of the families immensly.....we'll have to wait to see how things pan out at dei in the next few years and dei does without jr's cashflow there

From your lips to God's ear on the safety of the current race car, K2. As you know I'm a forever Big E fan too and racing has never been the same for me since that black day in Daytona. The loss of Adam still breaks my heart knowing what could've been.

That is why I am fairly comfortable saying we wont lose another in this car.
great point you are making
that is one thing about the cot and till CM car was on it back NOT one cot this year has been rolled over and on its back....... the days of over 20 rolls is over i think and thank god for that and the cot
k2 i love seeing those ole back in days pit stops, you'd fit right in smoke in one hand, coffee in another dickies pants white T shirt and no nothing for protecion or fires.........makes u wonder how did it and are alive to yak about it

wow
Yep a Tim fan as well,
must have been your younger drinking and partying days lol
TR was like elvis, the guy got more pussy than the humane society!!
but Tim had other issues besides driving...
NO KIDDING
with todays media scrutinity he would have had a ball or been totaly f ked today

Dave
yeah they are different and you think back now about DA and AK and how at that time the sport was just growing and how these guys were trying to be every where to promote the sport which might have ultimatley cost them their lives.....SAD
I remember ages ago it seems that RP THE king and EI coming up here to the middle of no where , mid week to race at the local track at a promotion
today if TS came up here to see DS and TS's sprint car team race or be in a race you'd have 10-20,000 people at a 3000 seat dirt track in nd

Jon.
This is truly a nice post and I swear I am not being a jerk, so please dont infer that into this comment.
I know you dont like Kyle B, I can respect you on that and do..but the fact is there have many many other Championship drivers who drove like a maniac in there career and prospered.
Reference point(please remember I am a Sr fan for life).
Sr drove his butt off and made comments that "he would wreck his own mother to win a race".. He didnt play, he was there on track to win, he drove his arse off for many many years and besides Richard is one of the best drivers ever IMO.Tied in my eyes as Top drivers ever.
No I am not comparing NOR saying Kyle will or is a Sr. Never going to happen, but the kid has so much talent to accomplish things that Tim Richmond did..
Yep a Tim fan as well, but Tim had other issues besides driving...
Kyle has remnants in him of so many great drivers that graced us. He is a wheelman, drive anything, competitive as hell and wont back down.
How can anyone take the kids talent away is my question?..In these cars now thank God I really think I wont see anyone else leave us. Yes I was there for Sr and one that many seem to forget... A amazing kid(kinda like Davey) Adam Petty.. Stood at Tonya with the 3 saw it and felt the hush come over ( a peice of NASCAR died that day), standing on the hauler and watched Adam hit.Lost a great person and kid that day. 2 things I never ever will forget in my life.
That is why I am fairly comfortable saying we wont lose another in this car.
Sorry for the emotional end, but Sr went too early and damn Adam would have been amazing..
Kyle has it in him and its there, just trying to let others see out of the box on some things..
Posted by: Kurt2 | Feb 27, 2008 8:25:30 PM
I am not doubting Kyle Busch's talent, but at the same time he has and will continue to make moves that arten't necessary and puts other drivers at risk and that is what I don't like about Kyle Busch. He seems to have very little regard for the safety of his fellow competitors on the track.

Jon2,
Refresh my memory please. When was the last time Robby told Nascar, I'm not going to take your crap of stupid desicions. I'm going to stand up to you? My sponsor is going to stand up to you big boys. Nascar screwed Robby so bad last yr in Canada, but he didn't stand up to Nascar. When was the last time Robby told Nascar to kiss his ass? You might better watch out for Kyle, Jon2. I think he may kick your boys butt all the way back to NC.

aggie, you are correct. Davey would've never allowed JG to win that many races. But, about the Ky. Busch comparison, I would agree on the driving skill side. But, Davey's personality was night and day, compared to Kyle.
K2, enjoy Vegas. I'm sure that you will have had enough of the slot machine and video poker jingles to last you until next year. I can still hear those damn jingles in my head, from last years visit.
