Setzer wins wild truck race
Dennis Setzer held on to win in a green-white-checker finish, putting Bobby Hamilton racing back in Victory Lane.
Lots of beating and banging went on, which is typical of Martinsville, but even more-so with the trucks, not sure if there were any trucks out there that didn't have any marks on them.
Kyle Busch was involved in a couple of incidents, one with Skinner and one with Benson in the final laps of the race, other than that the only other big wreck was Sprague and a few others, which brought out the red flag to clean the track.
Brendan Gaughan lost his chance for the win when he was leading, when his crew chief decided to call him to pit road under caution. Gaughan wanted to stay out and chance it, thinking there would be enough caution laps in the race to make it on fuel, but the crew chief made the ultimate decision and called him in and he ended up eleventh.
Chrissy Wallace, Mike Wallace's daughter, made her NASCAR debut, coincidentally at the same track Dad made his debut. She didn't do too bad either, she came in seventeenth on the lead lap with Dad helping with the spotting and Tony Stewart coaching her. I think I read she may be in the same truck again sometime for Germain Racing, so it'll be interesting to see if she can keep it up and possibly be the first female to actually be able to do something in NASCAR.
Your thoughts?

in the last couple of laps at the truck race...
"i hate to say it but the toyota isn't gonna get as good gas mileage as the, ahhh, ummm, ahhh, white car in front of him"

i've said it before...
years ago a friend in vegas said... hey, if you think kurt is fast wait till you see his little brother when he gets to cup.
hahaha
it's been fun so far.
unless you happen to be one of the several drivers ky takes out every weekend.
what a little biotch.
it's always the same... oh, wait till kyle gets more experience in cup.
5 years and 5 wins... !! who cares.
ky looks like he did at hendrick, just before he got replaced by Jr.
does it take that much "talent" to run it off into the corner way too fast and bounce off another car ??

I will not forget a few years ago at the Nascar banquet when little Kyle forgot his girl friends name.. I knew then that the kids head was not on right! A belief I hold today.........

DAmn Rich, tell me how you really about Kyle Busch..
So funny we have a Smoke, a Happy, a Rowdy( now he is weed?????)
I understand and while I do respect the fact no one likes the Busch boys,I do.. Smoke is not for everyone(and not trashing him), JR(isnt for everyone(not trashing him), Kevin damn sure aint for everyone( nor trashing him..
See the point made..? you dont like a driver, he pisses you off??
Please ask yourself, if you didnt know Kevin and Smoke were great frends, would you eat him alive and trash him..????
I can easily say there are only 2 active drivers I will glady go there with.....
With that said i am heading to get cold again here. Its a ugly day..
take care

K2...Yeah,my boys played well against a tough Pittino squad.Pulling for Davidson for a major upset.
I haven't given up on the 18,because his type is good for the sport, but being a JB fan as well, the lack of remorse is BS.His lack of respect for what the truckers are trying to do by punting regulars, especially JB,is what seems to be a character flaw that needs some improvement.I didn't care for his bro in the beginning ,but I actually like Kurt now. We'll see how things go for him.......
The weather here in NC is crap.42 and windy and drizzle. It was sooo much fun playing 5 softball games yesterday.Not.Luckily we lost out last nite.
A good day for sports entertainment today.Hopefully have an exciting race,Davidson B-ball,and Braves baseball and the big one,yep renting the Wrestlemania extravaganza!!Wooooo!
A plethera of beer will be consumed.
K2,be safe and ya'll have a good one.........

K2 - I know what you are going through today. Remember, I'm a Tony Stewart fan and I've had a few of these days myself. LOL.

Should we race, remember watch the ROAD today.. Its tight as hell, and small..
You have fun, be on later...

I think Kyle Busch is a great driver, for sure one of the best, but he needs a good ass kicking. I really admire his talent but he gets in over his head, or should I say he loses his head.

UMMMMMMMM, its kinda ugly weather thus far, cold and drizzle.. Freaking yippie..
Posted by: kurt2 | Mar 30, 2008 11:35:02 AM
Seat time or time in general won't help the "Weed." Kyle Busch has a "Major" character flaw and that cannot be corrected. He can change his on camera personna, but sure as a leopard cannot change it's spots, Klye's old self will pop up time and time again. His future in NASCAR is not going to be pretty.

Jon,
Buddy the keyword, was "FOR NOW" I plead the fifth..
Really cant say I want go there later..
Dfficult with the friend angles.. kinda like Smoke/Harvick for me..
Just hope any other car than the 18 today choose the bump and run angle.. Then I can address it...
DJ, your boys had a game last night.. I think you will get the Jayhawks next...

I was so fired up over Kyle that I forgot to mention what a gosh darn good job Chrissy did. I was a little concerned if she could hold her own with those guys and she did. Good to see Tony out there helping her.
Posted by: Deb | Mar 30, 2008 10:57:49 AM
Bandit,
I think until he changes his attitude about his aggressiveness on the track it won't matter how much seat time he has.
Posted by: Jon | Mar 30, 2008 10:51:29 AM
I'm looking for a young driver to take Tony's place at the top of my favorites list when he retires. I've been trying really hard to like Kyle Busch because he is so young and talented and I thought he could become that favorite driver. Every week that prospect becomes less likely. What he did to Benson was inexcusable and his post-race interview was disappointing.
Posted by: Diane | Mar 30, 2008 10:34:44 AM
Jon
Are they still saying that when Kyle has little more seat time He will become great ?? Havent they been saying that for along time now???
Posted by: bandit | Mar 30, 2008 10:31:23 AM
Kurt2,
LOL, you made the right choice. :)
Posted by: Jon | Mar 30, 2008 10:20:11 AM
Should I plead the fifth here? I think I should ..
While Rocket is one of the best guys and one of my best friends, .....
Kurt2 pleads the fifth .for now..
I only hope NO OTHER driver makes the same fubar today...

Well,it's official...I'm off the 18 bandwagon. He's right in line with punk ass biatch in my book.I didn't see all the race while playing ball, but got to the bar in time to see him take out JB.I saw the other hi-lites as well.Blamed it on wheel-hopping even though in his interview he said he was going to try and get that 2nd position if he had an opening.Slow your ass down and you wouldn't wheel hop I guess. He is reminding of the 11 from last year. The post race interview is what got to me.The arrogance reminds me of a spolied ass rich punk and his weak apology was full of so what,no remorse and basically said JB's crew was being wrong?JB is easy going,so his crew did what any crew would do for their driver. He's lucky right now...his day will come, just like his bro's did.
Here's hoping he punts the wrong guy today.......

Deb,
I couldn't agree more and had it been Skinner he took out at the end like Benson he probably would have gotten the beat down like he really needs.
Posted by: Jon | Mar 30, 2008 6:38:03 AM
Well Yall, I was hoping that Kyle grew up a bit, but he hasn't. That little piece of crap needs his ass kicked by somebody real soon. Sorry Kath, but he is just a piece of crap and I can't sugar coat it.

sfan

SF82,
Thanks for the info regarding Busch hitting Skinner because he ran out of gas.

Congratulations to Dennis Setzer and Bobby Hamilton Racing. It was a typical Truck Series short track race though - a major letdown because you can't pass and the winner is always the first driver to make his final pit stop (or in Setzer's case at Mansfield last year the driver that never pits at all). Truck Series short track races are the equivalent of road course races in the Cup Series - the race isn't determined by anything that happens on the track, it's all determined by who wins the race to be the first guy to hit pit road when the fuel window opens, and that's just not racing to me.
On another note, major thumbs down to Kyle Busch. The Skinner incident wasn't his fault, because Skinner ran out of gas and completely stopped. The Benson incident however is inexcusable, and Kyle's lack of remorse after the race was classless. A little humility and an apology to Johnny Benson would have been very welcomed, but instead all he did was cry about Benson's pit crew being angry and his only remorse was that he "should have missed the wreck but got run into by someone else". This kid has all the talent in the world but he needs to grow up. I thought he'd begun to change but he's becomming the same old Kyle again. Just like Tony Stewart, just because you are among the very best at what you do, that doesn't excuse you for being a complete ASS.
What a boneheaded move to drive over his head and take out a series regular that's battling for a championship on the last lap... for what, the difference between 3rd and 2nd in a race you're only there to win?
I'm sure the Truck regulars are getting awfully sick of this arrogant Cup driver coming into their series, driving with reckless abandon, and taking them out because he just doesn't give a damn about the consequences because he's doing this for fun. Add Benson to Mike Skinner (Daytona, not today), Brendan Gaughan, Colin Braun, and the kid that drove the #85 truck that Kyle punted out of his way today because he needed a yellow to the list of truck series drivers that Kyle's pissed off this year. There are probably more that I'm forgetting too, but these are the four that jumped to mind right away.
I would LOVE to see one of these guys like Benson get a shot in Cup... especially in a Chase race... and drive over their head and take out Kyle in a race that means everything to Kyle, and then shrug it off because they, like Kyle in the Truck Series, don't give a damn because that wasn't their "day job" and didn't cost them anything in the grand scheme of things.

k2
a carry over here
truex remains at DEI, Biffe stays with Roush and Smoke stays with Gibbs
makes sense but smoke with a trd team when you look at his over org doesnt make $$$sense
4th team at rcr with ups sounds great to me BUT not gonna happen i think
kyb today no comment the guy is racer and has the 2nd place is the first loser mentality ....so what are you going to do, he races to win, why flog a dead horse that his style and evryone knows it by now, so you wait like today to see what happens
k2 that whole roush deal just reaks like BS, the guy leaks to story to one puplication a mag of all things with a 3 week to print deadline and tells no one else???in the e weeks to the mag coming out?? or all the beat writers didt get a sniff of teh story and then the story comes out in an off week????? coincidence NO.... the whole cry wolf from jack is getting a lil stupid
to me this one was too staged & planned out and excuted with a PR man's spin to it!!
iam waiting for the 3 rd cry wolf from jack

Setzer had a strong race and it didn't look like anyone had anything to challenge. As usual Kyle Busch ran out of talent and took out two trucks in two different incidents and during the post race interview he acted like it was no big deal.
