Kyle Busch wins in a mess of a finish
Kyle Busch held off Montoya and Hamlin to win at Dega, while the rest of the field, or just about, wrecked behind them in the final laps. Because the caution came out on the after the white flag was thrown, the race was over.
Busch said he had to block to keep them behind him, which he was able to do. As for the finish, it was a total mess with the caution and some drivers made out quite well with the way NASCAR scored them and others didn't fair too well, some of them didn't make sense, but that's NASCAR for ya.
Congrats to Brian Vickers and David Ragan on their top 5 finishes and also to Casey Mears (top finishing HMS driver) for his top 10 finish. It was nice to see Vickers and Mears up there for a change.
Oh and so much for the crew chief swap over at Ganassi helping BOTH teams, the 42 finished second and the 41 blew and engine on lap 5. Hmm, seemed like it helped one, but not the other...did we really expect any different? I sure didn't, he still only cares about one car and that's not going to change.
Your thoughts?

Jon,
Correction in order. Rick's an ex-felon. Got pardoned by the best President that money can buy. What he did was wrong, a jury of his peers said so and convicted him. He paid his debt to society.

This is from jayski.com: "Nationwide TV Coverage Change: Friday night's ESPN production of the NASCAR Nationwide Series race from Richmond International Raceway has been moved to ESPN Classic and also will be simulcast on ESPN360.com and SPEED. The telecast begins at 7pm/et with NASCAR Countdown. The change was made to accommodate NBA playoff game six between Washington and Cleveland. Additionally, for fans without ESPN Classic, a special encore presentation of the race from start to finish will air that evening following the NBA game beginning at approximately 9:30pm on ESPN2."
This just goes to show us how much respect ESPN has for NASCAR and its fans.

Graceann - Isn't that great? Tony gave props to Morgan after the race last weekend. Morgan called in to Tony's radio show this week. That's when Tony and Matt Yokum offered to each buy Shepherd a set of tires for this week's race. Tony ended up saying he would buy him as many sets as he needed. Smoke may be ajerk sometimes, but he has a big heart.
Posted by: Diane | May 1, 2008 6:35:57 PM
Did you guys read where Stewart is suppling the tires for Shepherd at Richmond.

Aggie, you sure get around.
Montgomery Inn ribs. Tip my hat to ya, ain't a better rib in the States IMO. And the celebrities you see there on any given night. The whos who of Baseball and football. Saw hustlin Pete there on a few occasions at the original store in Montgomery. Love the Cincy chili at Gold Stars & Skyline, corn beef sands at Izzy's in downtown Cincy, great steaks at the Precinct, German style food everywhere you go. Great place to watch the Reds get stomped and eat out later.
If 3/4 of the competition in NASCAR CUP took there trade as seriously as "Stooge" Pete Rose did his on gameday the race stands would be filled.

Pete Rose always reminded me of The Three Stooges with his hair cut. I guess even back then I was doomed to be a hairdresser. What was the name of the Stooge that had Rose's hair?

G-anne - We used to stay in Florence sometimes too. Mostly at a Holidome that was really nice back then. We stayed downtown Cincy sometimes because we had a couple of players who would comp us rooms at the hotels so we didn't have to pay. Mario Soto, a great pitcher and Ken Griffey, Sr. were 2 players who helped us out.
Gretchen - Right on. I used to hate Pete Rose and think he should never get into the Hall of Fame. With what's going on now, I may have to change my mind.
I agree about getting smarter as we get older. Life's lessons can really teach us a lot.
Posted by: Diane | May 1, 2008 5:02:06 PM
LOL EN!!!
Damnit, you just made me snort in court!!!
Diane, I remember- I think, or maybe I just remember my dad talking about- Johnny Bench. And of course I remember Pete Rose. I wrote an essay about him in 10th grade. We had to take a position and argue it whether he should have been banned from baseball.
I must say that in light of today's various HGH, Steriods, and I f***ed Mindy McReady for ten years running, scandals, my position had I written it today would have been much different.
I get sooooo much smarter the older I get.

Holly crap, I remember going to see the Reds play when I was younger myself. My brother thought he was gonna grown up and be the next Johnny Bench. We used to stay in Florence KY. when we went to the games. You guys are making us all show our ages. Stop it, how I am supposed to lie and say I am in my early 30's.
Posted by: Graceann | May 1, 2008 3:33:20 PM
aggie - Nice job listing the Reds' lineup. Have to put Tom Seaver in as the starting pitcher. An unknown catcher, Don Werner (a friend of mine back then), caught Seaver's only no-hitter while he was with the Reds. Cincinnti won the World Series in 70, 72, 75, 76 and 90. I attended those games except for 1990. Haven't had very good teams since. I spend too much time on racing now so I don't pay attention to baseball anymore.
Gretch - The Reds and Braves had a real rivalry back then but I'm sure you're too young to remember.

No your right HMS doesn't need to develope drivers on a major scale like the other teams, they let them groom 'em then when necessary buy who they please.
I wasn't referring to drivers as a develop thing at HMS, ain't got a major presence in this area, but other areas.
Yes they drop drivers like the other teams to make room for better drivers. That's business. However, HMS made a booboo getting rid of Kyle and not Casey. I admit that one. I believe they now realize it would have been better to have kept Kyle on the inside of the tent pissing out than on the outside pissing in. Getting Junior, now that was a major coup on Rick's part. No issue there in my opinion. That driver was every owner's dream to get.
We drive to Cincy to see the Reds a few times a year. Great new stadium, terrible team. Remember in the 90's when they were lucky to get 7,000 out to a game, could pickup really nice seats for 5 dollars a pop.

"with respect to engines & development strategy."
They have no development strategy. They never have. They wait for other teams to develope drivers, then they buy them, ( I recall some sort of story about Ford motor co I think, Jeff Gordon, and whoever he was with prior to Rick), drop drivers to make room at the Inn, ( I also recall some sort of story about Kyle Busch being dumped for Earnhardt's kid), furnish them with superior equipment and crooked crew cheifs, ( I recall something about some kid that drove for Alltel in the Busch series. They had to give him some eyebrow wax too I think), make them all clean shaven, starched, pretty as hell, and they're off and running. Absolutely no driver development program in existence.

k2 your ex music big shot remember this one from the platters
They asked me how I knew smoke was leaving
My true love was true to jgr
Oh, I of course replied as I always do
Something here inside cannot be denied smokes wants OUT
They said someday you'll find out that smoke hates KYB and DH
All who love are blind just ask rodger clemons or mindy mac
Oh, when your heart's on fire the lil head thinks for the big head right rodger
You must realize your not going into thehall of fame and smoke is going bub bye
Smoke gets in your eyes
So I chaffed them and I gaily laughed along with smoke aat all the fans we bs'd
To think they could doubt my love for smoke and mindy mac
Yet today my love has flown away and smoke is going bub bye from jgr
I am without my love, mindy where are you love, you skanky lil hoe
Now laughing friends deride all while smoke gets his new ride
Tears I can not hide that minday left me for rodger
Oh, so I smile and say smoke hired jarred for his mentor
When a lovely flame dies smokes marries jarred
Smoke gets in your eyes and feeds us a pile of BS
Smoke gets in your eyes
gretchen i hear what a better way to spend a day than at the park with your friends telling a few war stories drinking beer and eating junk like your going to the electric chair LOL
Posted by: aggie | May 1, 2008 2:09:45 PM
aggie - How many times a day do you watch that youtube music video? LOL
Baseball used to be my favorite sport. I'll be showing my age, but even though I live 95 miles from Cincinnati, my family had season tickets for the Reds games for several years. I can't count the number of games I saw of the Big Red Machine including playoffs and world series. Johnny Bench was and always will be my favorite baseball player. But I also liked Tony Perez, Dave Concepcion, Ken Griffey, Joe Morgan, etc. But NOT Pete Rose.
Posted by: Diane | May 1, 2008 2:02:49 PM
Aggie, HMS ain't a tax cheat, get your facts right.
Your info on HAAS, more reasons why Tony will buy in to HAAS which is basically a satelite org of HMS with respect to engines & development strategy.
F1 teams typically spend in four races what the better CUP teams spend in a year. To give a better perspective on the wealth of these F1 teams, McLaren racing was fined by F1 100million (not thou) for spying on a competitor.
With respect to monies, CUP can't come close to the bucks spent in the F1 series. Like comparing a Yugo to a Mercedes.

Barg GGGGGGGGGGGG
wow
Scooter Rizzuto, and EN wow you are a real at at 35
i love reading about how like GB and woods corect their swings and move a 1/4 inch in their swing UNREAL, like woods playing 18 them wacking 1500 balls right after even though he has a 5 stroke lead
only rpoblem with woods right now is he mentally has these guys beat.....nicklaus in his day had real competition and guy like trevino didnt run and hide K2 and F5
for us fans that live in nascar ville and you see the results of a team like Haas u figure they are some lil kicj shop and then you read this from marty smith and get a whole new pic of smoke's deal
Some folks have asked me, "Why Haas? For a marquee name like Stewart, wouldn't much better teams offer the same thing?" Haas has a ton of resources. It has a brand-new shop, complete with seven-post shaker rig. It has a rolling wind tunnel that costs more than a barrel of crude oil. (That's a gas price joke. A bad one.)
The wind tunnel is a $40 million machine. There are only three like it in the world, and the two outside of Haas are positioned in confidential locations.
rolling wind tunnel 40 mil WTF do u rent it for kids b day parties
GOD it does pay to be a tax cheat like HMS and gene haas
just real curious how many F1 teans have a rolling wind tunnel worth 40 million
lol no wonder he got a rolling model easy to hide it from the feds during an audit LMAO
k2 its time for a song about smoke ???
Posted by: aggie | May 1, 2008 1:41:24 PM
I LOVE baseball. I went to so many games at the old Fulton County stadium in Atlanta. I remember renting a Motel Room and my entire college softball team watched the NLCS in Oct 1992....LOVE the Braves. David Justice, Chipper Jones (playing AAA that year but was brought up for the playoffs), Ryan Klesko ( same deal), Javier Lopez (same Deal), Otis " I smoked waaayyy too much crack" Nixon, Smoltz, Glavine, Maddux, Avery, Kent Mercer was their 5th man in the rotation. Jeff Blauser, Mark Lemke, FRED "CRIME DAWG" MCGRIFF, Terry Pendleton OMG I just LOVED the Braves!!!!
Still do. I just can't believe that C. Jones has been there 14 years already.
Baseball is right up there with College football and NASCAR for me

Very true about all the sports legends I've been fortunate to watch over the years, aggie. I'm a race fan first and foremost but I enjoy football and baseball too. Franco Harris, Mean Joe Green, John Riggins, Broadway Joe, Scooter Rizzuto, Thurman Munson.....man oh man. Those were the days!

Agg,
Yea the hitting coach was charlie lau...{not sure on the spelling of the last name}...BRETT and RYAN retired at the same time...last game of the season in'93,was the last game both were suppose to play...RYAN was suppose to be starting pitcher that day,and he was gonna face BRETT and the ROYALS...but RYAN was hurt and didn't make the start that day, that was a shame...u tube video was cool...and its funny you talk about ARMANI cologne, cuz that's what I'm wearing today..lol..

brett had the best swing i have ever seen and like woods he was crazy about it...... what was that guys name, charlie lau who was his swing coach??
neatest thing i ever read on BB and hitting was how ted williams had such phenomanal eye sight he could see the rotation on the ball within 15-20 feet of it leaving the pitchers hands
ITS GOD's GAME
smoke is playing us fans like fiddle i think and has a deal done already and is gone
i think guys on the 20 since KC last year fall have been ????? not all there, they remind me of the 8 team last year going thru the motions

aggie,
"Ford? Come on, Tony … last I checked, they renamed Ford Roush Fenway Racing … and that team is downsizing, not looking for replacements."
They reported that Tony talked to Jack. But, I agree, that was probably a false-lead. I think everyone knows that Tony wants to go back to Chevy.
Roush is the only Ford "mega-team". But, Doug and Max have done a great job improving Yates' Racing and will probably buy out the team that Jack will have to drop. Biffle and Edwards are looking for contract extensions and anything can happen, but I don't see Tony driving a Ford.
LMAO, at the Moss Truck team. I liked George Brett, even though I wasn't a fan. Montana still is the best QB of all time.
Gretchen,
I don't see Biffle leaving RFR, for DEI. But, again, stuff happens.
Here's a link, for anyone who hasn't noticed a difference, this year:

P.S. AGGIE...,
I'll be 35 this year, and I agree with what u said about sports...I seen GRETZKY play in person twice with RANGERS...JOE MONTANA is my favorite football player since 1982,and GEORGE BRETT is my all-time hero...miss that dude kickin ass in KANSAS CITY..
Posted by: EARNHARDT NATION | May 1, 2008 12:23:40 AM
Aggie,
I like ADIDAS...they even got great cologne...but them gloves gotta go...JUNIORS gloves just look outta place..
I think JUNIORS outfit and his merchandise would look SO much better if it were based on the "RED"AMP instead of the "GREEN" AMP...but as I said before, maybe his sponsor don't wanna look like he's wearing BUD merchandise, although the AMP "RED" is a really different shade of red than BUDWEISER..
And for anyone who cares, the gas is about $3.60 a gallon right below the mason dixon line here in MARYLAND...this country is going straight to hell...

Why doesn't Allstate pony up and sponsor the entire car? God knows their premiums are expensive enough that they can definitely pay for it! Then Bud can pair up with a Bud Man instead of the Bud Boy. ;)
