No points, just money and bragging rights - All-Star Race
It's that time again, where the All-Stars of NASCARs Cup Series get to shine. There are no points, so it's all-out for the money and bragging rights and it should prove to be an exciting race.
I was surprised to see Humpy give his pick to Edwards, not that he's not good, I just figured he'd go along with this years on-fire driver Kyle Busch. Whether you like Kyle or not, he's got talent and not afraid to take risks to get the win, that in itself should make for an exciting race and maybe a lot of conversations after it.
While both of those drivers have a shot at the win, as do all the others in the race, my pick here will be as a fan and that pick goes to last years winner, Kevin Harvick.
Who's your pick?

Congrats to K.K. and the whole #9 team on
their win last night.
Also, congrats to all of K.K.'s fans on
voting him in the All-Star race, he owe's
all of you big time.
Maybe, this will give him confidence now
and he will start winning races.
K.K. isn't my favorite driver but I found
myself pulling for him last night big time.
I think, K.K. needs to be known as the Bud-
man and not as those giggly Allstate teen-
agers as aggie calls them. Maybe, I'm wrong
but isn't Budweiser his major sponsor?
IMO, Allstate has wore that commercial out.
I say, let's let K.K. be a Budweiser man.

Kari: 89 Mustang GT (all original) except for the sound system. I have to wear ear plugs, when he is in the drive its shakes the house. Good thing he likes the same music I do.

To all the Kasey ladies/fans here. I knew you would be a little happy today..Congrats to all of the 9 guys and Ray....
F5, Biff wasnt pissed like he was last week. On Kyle and the 11, I swear Mark C will get the "test engine"right soon.
Aggie the KK fans are sending you CROW TODAY.. Would you like mustard with it:)or BBQ sauce
Last but not least.
"K2,
While the 48 team is way off pace compared to past years, don't forget they have won a race this year...so to say that "the 48 team hasn't owned shit this year" is an nescient statement on your part.

"
Sorry Expat, point proven the 24 and 48(95% OF THE YEAR OFF PACE)even the 88 WAS off pace last night. Its more than a opinion at all, it showing week in and week out
Diane, Hermie and Elliott are literally the same mold. He can do it to Smoke prior and say sorry but god forbid it happpen to him.. He acts like a FS half the time anyway.
I cant believe I am saying this but Hornish looked damn stout last night..
Posted by: Kurt2 | May 18, 2008 9:59:17 AM
Well, I was close on Kenseth...but I'll take a Kahne win any day of the week, that's for sure. I was at a wedding and we were getting text updates--when it was over, the bride (also a fan) was so excited she had the DJ announce it at the reception. Good stuff.
Graceann,
Woo hoo from one Kahne fan to another, and a big woo hoo on your boy's showing at the car show. What kind of car does he have?
Posted by: Kari | May 18, 2008 9:52:18 AM
Barb G - I agree about Mikey, but DW is the one I really want to get rid of. Last night he kept saying "I guarantee blah, blah" and nothing he guaranteed happened. He is such a know-it-all. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I can't wait for TNT to take over. Fox, please get rid of DW.
F5 - I was really disappointed with the race. When there's so little passing at the front of the field in an all-star race, something needs to be changed. Not even one real caution. Boring.
Graceann - You and the rest of the Allstate ladies did a great job of voting KK into the race. Also, good job by your son.
K2 - I now officially join the "I hate Sadler" fan club. What he said about Allmendinger was way out of line after what he himself did to Tony last week. All I can say is he has no class.
Congratulations to AJ and Sam for racing themselves into the all-star race. Good job.
I sure hope next week's race is better than last night. 600 miles of that will seem endless.

I am celebrating Aggie! My son's car (16yr. old) placed in top 20 in a car show yesterday. His head was so big we had to butter it to get him in the back door! He has worked hard on his car, sure am proud of that boy! Dad's car and truck didn't even placed which made his even sweeter. Then KK winning was just icing on the cake.
Posted by: Graceann | May 18, 2008 8:05:39 AM
f5
Biffle was quite upset he couldn't even pass Kyle on 7 cylinder
yeah that was ?? how kyb held him off in the corners...how fast is that guy??
ganne
congrats to your guy and i guess that was KK's belated mom day gift to one his biggests fans YOU!! now thats the way KK can and should be running evry race. biff and all that rfr wizardary couldn't touch KK!!
k2 or f5 was that a lucky call or good call as i still cant see how KK's no tires was faster than 2-4 tire cars?????
K2 whats the story on the motors lifters or rocker arms
kyb was just killing them, no one was even in the same zip code
overall real boring nite, was rcr even there tonite?? or were they just there for the stage intro lol.......unreal dint hear boo from the 31 and 07 29 looked a lil decent at times???
k2 and f5 our crytsal balls need a tune up after this race....at least k2 u were adamant on the 2, a dodge close but no cigar
iam going with the my same picks for the 600
24 can he do anything right?? Jr, well the curse of the oven mitts lives on and a lil brain fart almost took him out, even in a 25 lap race the guy still gets lil brain farts
barb g .......thanks iam growing up in dogs years i think
ganne celebrate and enjoy the win in all your KK attire
Posted by: aggie | May 18, 2008 2:58:20 AM
WOW such a disappointing evening...Sorry K2, all RCR battled demons tonight...Kyle broke...Biffle was quite upset he couldn't even pass Kyle on 7 cylinder...Oh and I'm sure he'll sign with RFR...Oh goody 12:40 and the replay's starting

"WE need a new fan vote to get Mikeys ass out of the truck booth"....
If that's all it would take I'd vote for ten hours straight. I love the truck series but he makes the broadcasts unbearable. He never shuts up and his voice sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard.
Hornaday sounded calm, K2. but I thought I saw some smoke coming from his ears. Typical Cueball crap but he keeps getting away with it. I'd pay admission to see somebody kick his butt from NC to upstate NY. Re: Benson, I guess he was supposed to run over Darnell in NASCAR's eyes. Benson - black flag, Cueball - not a peep. Go frickin figure! I love to see a driver celebrate a first win. Dayum, that was cool for Crafton.
To aggie - Like Diane said, PLEASE don't ever grow up. I like you just the way you are. ;)
Congrats to KK on his win tonight!

Kyle will kick JR ass again

Mike
they didn't want Michael Andretti to succeed when he went to F1 in 1993 and it was no coincidence he struggled so badly he had to quit.
yeas and no it was a crazy year for MA and yeah be he and the F1 made it hard for him to succeed...i recal ma wasnt even living there but flying back and forth and i think that was when him and sandi hsi ex split up??
dianne lol , you know those 24-48 fans lol
Posted by: aggie | May 17, 2008 3:07:31 PM
NC EX
Sorry , the 48 team hasnt owned shit this year and damn sure not this week. Not a shot just a feasible observation
Posted by: Kurt2 | May 17, 2008 2:10:24 PM
Wrong title - it should be "No Points, Just A Test Session For The 600." No one actually races in this race anymore, they just run it as a test session for the 600. If they want a real race in the All-Star Race, move it to Talladega.
Kyle Busch will win running away if he doesn't blow up or crash tonight.
Diane, no way will F1 let Busch do anything - they didn't want Michael Andretti to succeed when he went to F1 in 1993 and it was no coincidence he struggled so badly he had to quit.
Posted by: Mike Daly | May 17, 2008 12:40:25 PM
Wow...no respect for the 48 crew who OWN this track. Got to say though my first pick (due to starting spots) is Rowdy, with 48 coming through the field to finish 2nd (maybe 1st of Shrub has issues).
Posted by: NC Expat in Hong Kong | May 17, 2008 12:06:38 PM
Great ending to mostly ho hum race, congrats to Matt Crafton for getting his first truck win.
I thought Hornaday was going punt Bodine after he obviously wrecked Ron. Hornaday was very lucky he didn't get parked for going after Bodine on the track.
Posted by: Jon | May 17, 2008 11:58:11 AM
Every race should be run like the All Star race. Pay a million to win every race and screw the points. You would see all out racing evey week. Point racing is for strokers.
Posted by: Rich | May 17, 2008 11:38:55 AM
I did forget it was infact carpentier runnning with a sign at a track on him.
I dont think that would gel too well with Charlotte tonight..
F5, he is talking smack huh??? Brian V is a good kid but he best remember there would be any "kiddie gloves " on tonight, so he might drink the Red Bull..
Since we are nicely in, I can deal with Robby G or Vickers getting in. The Jim Beam car has been strong this weekend in pratice, hell I dont mind anyone BUT JPM or Elliott Sadler.
Aggie, No I am not losing my mind with the 2 and YES I MEANT THE 2, not the 12..
I do know Kevin H and Kyle need to be carefule taking jabs at one another or you will have a hell of a time watching things happen tonight.
ALL ready have to award the Dumbass of the weekend award out:
Goes to CUE BALL BODINE for taking Hornady out last night.. Trust me Cue Ball the woenr is not real pleased with you, nor the driver.
WE need a new fan vote to get Mikeys ass out of the truck booth,
Petition to NASCAR, no Waltrip allowed to commentate on a race period..
Congratsw to Matt Crafton and the boys for last night.
Jeers to NASCAR for Blackflagging the 23 of Johnny B for jumping a restart when he moved as not to cause a wreck since Darnell couldnt get going.Way to screw it up NASCAR

Posted by: aggie | May 17, 2008 10:36:28 AM
aggie, tonite is all about a million bucks, so katie bar the door it's gonna be a throw down...#83 TRB transfers....But my driver tonight WILL be slideways...'bout did a flip when the #18 knocked off the #24....
K2, got your diver FIRED up? Grab some RedBull and tell him that #83 is talking smack about him

Kurt2:
Patrick Carpentier has already run nude around one track making good on a promise previously. Sadly I cannot find those pics. Anxiously awaiting for that particular event to show up on the internet.
Aggie:
Grow up. I believe you to have the intelligence and humor level of a 10 year old boy.

kari
speaking of easy on the eyes how about that 11, looked good in that shirt geled up hair kinda had that "poon hound" look to him.........i still think kyb should be on the geek squad adds in white shirt black pants, or he reminds me of those jehovas guys who come to door giving out those magazines......i always say no thanks and then hand them some old penthouse magazine and watch their reaction LOL
JON2

Sammy welcome,
Not a shot but JGR is on point, yes F5 I know you are a happy ass man:)
Where are the naysayers(J2) that with all the tudes over there they would self destruct? Funny how last night I watched and afterward followed the 11 and 20 guys to give congrats to the 18, 11 etc. Then stood there earlier and saw when Kyle B won the POle from the 24 , i noticed something odd when I went to congrat Add-man.. Damn the 11 and the 20 guys were there as well congratulating them..
So much for self destruction @ JGR..Dont care if you like him behind the wheel the kid can freaking drive his arse off..
So musch for Yota sucking(NOPE I AM NOT EMPLOYED by a YOTA org), but they killed the Pit Comp, then are kicking the shit out of most thus far.
Hey, J2, tell your little 48 boy he needs to be in the box tonight when he pits, it helps not get a penalty, while I hate it for Little Mikey himself as a person.Proves the fact of "YOUR DYSTANY" isnt unstopable at all.
Still waving your are Number one J2..
OOPPSSSS, did you watch the Pit Crew Comp last night j2?????? if you might have youwould understand the nickname factor on Pit Road, butknowing you you had your PJS too tight and missed it..
Sammy welcome that whole "speech" was not at you at all.
We can get a tad Rowdy in here but most and keyword most is in jest..
I am after thinking going with Kathy for the 29............,2, 18,24,and 31..
The only reason I leave MM out is is going to get real ugly and he wont take someone out to win. Trust me I would love to see him take it..
I need to see Carpentier run down nude as I need to see Humpy do it.Damn thats a bad thought.
Posted by: Kurt2 | May 16, 2008 9:44:11 PM
Uhmm... Patrick Carpentier says that if he gets voted in by the fans, he'll run down pit road naked.
/pleasepleaseplease VOTE HIM IN!!
Posted by: 48# | May 16, 2008 9:21:17 PM
Well, Kyle just won the pole for the All-
Star race and Jeff Gordon is second.
Put Kyle in an F-1 car, he'll show them how
to drive.
Posted by: Race Fan | May 16, 2008 8:14:58 PM
While I'm still relatively new here, I really enjoy the banter.
Geezer - Prayers are with you and best of luck on your battle.
My sentimental pick (favorite driver) is Jamie McMurray. My realistic pick is probably someone from felony motorsports or the misfits from JGR. I really hope that doesn't happen. I'd be happy to see Mark Martin win.
F1 might just be the ticket for Kyle B.
Posted by: Sammy | May 16, 2008 7:18:39 PM
I'll bet KyleB shows those guys how to knock the wheels off an F1 car!
Of course, Smoke for the $million
Posted by: JWSmoke | May 16, 2008 6:57:58 PM
Kathy - Sorry off subject, but just read this on jayski.com. Very interesting:
"Kyle Busch to test F-1 car: Kyle Busch will test a Formula One car with Toyota later this year in Japan. As teams get ready for Saturday’s Sprint All-Star Challenge, Busch said Formula One is something that appeals to him, but not on the near horizon. "I'm planning on retiring at 30 and going Formula One racing,” the 23-year-old Busch said at Lowe's Motor Speedway."
I doubt that he's really serious about this. But I bet he'll show those guys in F1 how to drive a racecar.

Geezer88
Welcome back and I wish you the best of
luck on your recovery, my prayers are with
you.
Congrats to the 83 team, nice job guys and
without any penalties.
I'll have to say, all the pit crews put on
a fantastic show and I really enjoyed
watching it.
Kathy
Great blog as usual. Like you, I was sur-
prised that Humpy picked Edwards, I'm not
saying Edwards is not a good driver, he is,
but I was thinking his pick would be either
Smoke or Kyle Busch.
I would like to see the #88 win it but my
pick to win the ALL-STAR is Kyle Busch.
Posted by: Race Fan | May 16, 2008 4:49:36 PM
Well, seeing how my boy JUNIOR can't seem to win a points race,I guess I'll pick him.. {big surprise huh folks?} if KYLE BUSCH wins I'll puke..JARRETT would be fun to see win..
Posted by: EARNHARDT NATION | May 16, 2008 4:07:34 PM
Geeze88 Copy that man we didn't know, Will keep you in our prayers...That's how we do things in the Nascar Nation.
Kat, The Gauntlet has been thrown down...My pick is Mark Martin... really wanted to pick Kyle Busch...It was Hella cool the #83 took all the marbles last night
Posted by: Fan #5 | May 16, 2008 3:38:24 PM
I'm still sticking with Smoke, Diane. It's a short field and if anybody can get himself up front it's Smoke.
Keeping voting for Robby! :)
Posted by: Barb G | May 16, 2008 3:09:15 PM
Geezer you just got me and F5, into one. No biggie man.
I honestly thought you meant Kyle P taking Kyle B to the shed:)
Glad your back
DJ, yeah going to watch the race for the food:):) LMAO
Posted by: Kurt2 | May 16, 2008 3:04:28 PM
My pick probably isn't any good now. They're changing engines in the #20 car so he will miss the rest of practice and will start at the rear of the field.
My 2nd choice is KyB. I really went out on a limb with that one didn't I? LOL.
Posted by: Diane | May 16, 2008 2:23:55 PM
"we will be watching from the local Hooter's establishment, for the atmosphere and wings of course!" DJ
Most folks read Playboy for the articles as well. LOL!!
Good pick DJ. I wrestled between Martin and Burton. Chose JB

Kathy,
Not much surprise but I am voting for Dale Jr. to win and if doesn't I agree with your pick, Kevin Harvick.
Posted by: Jon | May 16, 2008 2:04:44 PM
DJ - The only place I know to vote is at nascar.com. From what I understand, you can vote as many times as you want.
Posted by: Diane | May 16, 2008 1:37:58 PM
What a shock J2,going with your gut right? You finally get to use that extra set of knee pads Ol' saint Rick left in your stocking..........
Mark Martin.....solid on this type track.Smart enough to stay out of the more agressors way.Dark horse sorta kinda.......
Di...been voting.Which site are you talking about,in case there is more?
Geezer, hope things will work out for you....
Kat,solid pick as well.My tail will be playing softball in Rock Hill SC,so hopefully we will be watching from the local Hooter's establishment, for the atmosphere and wings of course!
Posted by: DJ | May 16, 2008 1:21:52 PM
The 88 and 18 wreck each other on the front stretch just before the start/finish line and throuhg a cloud of smoke, Dale Jaffett wins the race.
Posted by: Peter | May 16, 2008 12:37:18 PM
Matt Kenseth wins the All-Star race. Since he has crap-all for luck in the points races so far this year, he's gonna get it done for the $$$ this weekend.
Posted by: Kari | May 16, 2008 12:11:46 PM
K2 - I've also been voting for Robby and he's in the top 4 or 5 in votes right now. So DJ get on that web site and help us get Robby voted in.
Posted by: Diane | May 16, 2008 11:51:38 AM
DEAR GOD, PLEASE FORGIVE ME. I said Kyle Petty, but I MEANT that pencil necked geek KYLE BUSCH.
And forgive an old man's memory Kurt2, I meant you rather than Kurt-5.
I'll get back in the groove, I promise.
