Busch runs away with another one
Kyle Busch ran away with the win, Edwards came in second, but over five seconds back.
One huge wreck on lap 19 and then long green flag runs led to the demise of a lot of teams, something that usually doesn't happen at Dover that much.
With the wreck on lap 19, I thought it was going to be a typical Monster Mile race, but I guess because so many cars were in the garage getting fixed and then just staying out of the way, it led to the long green flag runs that let the leaders run away from everyone else. Only six cars finished on the lead lap.
Brian Vickers was doing good, until he got penalized for speeding on pit road, not once, but twice in a row, leaving them confused as to how that could be. I was listening in on the scanner and according to Vickers, he was still in first gear both times when he crossed the line and with the 5 mph cushion NASCAR gives them, they just don't understand how they could say he was going 40 mph or faster in first gear. Needless to say, he was upset about it, but his crew kept him calm and he finished 13th, two laps down.
The wreck on lap 19 really caused a shakeup in the points, with six drivers in the top twelve getting caught up in it. Hamlin took the biggest hit and dropped five spots in the standings, while Greg Biffle, who had a whole good race for a change, moved up six spots. The top three stayed the same, but 4th through 11th changed positions and Kasey Kahne kept 12th, but is only eight points ahead of David Ragan in 13th.
This was also the last race of the season for FOX, so we can say bye-bye to DW!
Your thoughts?

"Did anyone catch KyB remarks about how he was told NOT to participate in races outside of Cup when he was under Rick's Thumb?"
Posted by: Fan #5 | Jun 8, 2008 2:15:11 PM
Rick was probably thinking that based on the talent he saw in Kyle and the fact he was having so many issues on the track at HMS, needed first to conquer the CUP gig before branching out in other series. DW made the same observation recently regarding Kyle, he's got/getting the CUP thing down pat, let the other series slide for now because they can distract especially a young driver.
Wonder if fatigue played into his ending up dead last today. Long race, very hot, long weekend of racing in three different venues. Can take a toll on even a young guy.
Anyway,
Interesting how this Pocono wasn't as boring as the previous ones have been.

Congratulations to Kasey. All you #9 gals are sure to be celebrating.
Great job by Vickers and Allmendinger. And what about the #31, no one says anything about him all day and he finishes 5th.
It's unfortunate that KyB's weekend didn't turn out the way he wanted.
I was going to jump all over Bowyer until he admitted the wreck was his fault.
I'm really getting worried about Tony. I'm afraid his contract deal might be hurting the whole team.
The race wasn't as boring as I expected. It actually had some exciting racing for a change.

I got an original KISS t shirt from 1977 ...it shows the front picture of the KISS pinball machine, made by BALLY's...I got it from e bay,but its an original..

Did anyone catch KyB remarks about how he was told NOT to participate in races outside of Cup when he was under Rick's Thumb?
Posted by: Fan #5 | Jun 8, 2008 2:15:11 PM
Jon,
Now you're talking. ;) I definitely think that most of these guys have selective memories about what they do themselves but usually that's over the course of a couple of weekends a la Elliott Sadler--not a couple of MINUTES--ha ha!
K2,
Your crystal ball doesn't even show the 9??? What's up with that? ;) I like DJ's ball much better! (That sounded bad...)

No can do on adult beverages.Still feeling puuuknee from an intestinal bug x 3 days.A bad combo...no beer and snoozefest racing.
BTW..Smoke has gained even more respect from me now that I see he is a cat person after that interview on Speed.I saw a siemiese kitty.I had one for 20 years.Good for Smoke!

Ok Kari, I will admit that Bowyer is a whiney butt and he needs to get over it. :)
Posted by: Jon | Jun 8, 2008 10:26:47 AM
DJ,
I agree that was lame that Bowyer and unfortunately cup drivers find it necessary to belittle Nationwide drivers, especially the ones that have had Cup rides before.
Posted by: Jon | Jun 8, 2008 10:20:06 AM
Jon,
Come on--who deals in "would have, should have, could have"? Who knows what Stremme "would have" said? You don't and I don't. Besides, when was the last time Stremme's been that racy to even BE in that position? LONG time. What DID happen is that Bowyer did it then whined in a very un-classy way about Stremme doing the EXACT same thing to him.
Put Junior or Keselowski in Stremme's place--then what would you say about Bowyer's comments? I'm willing to bet you'd be saying that Bowyer was being a whiny butt who needs to shut up and RACE.
Posted by: Kari | Jun 8, 2008 10:12:19 AM
Thanks EN, I loved that comment.:
" got MEGADETH T-shirts that are older than these kids.
Welcome to NASCAR JOEY!
Posted by: EARNHARDT NATION
Hell I have KISS shirts older than him as well:)
Aggie, I can be non bias with thins like that, i had doubts till the 2nd replay and Stremme was correct, and so was KAri above last lap of a race is "s**T or get off the pot"
Posted by: Kurt2 | Jun 8, 2008 9:59:00 AM
Good for the 88.Seems to be a cool kid and not intmendated by the wackers.Good for Sremme as well.Once again a Cup guy spouting off about a Busch guy.Jon,you have to admit Stremme comments after the race were point on.Just a stupid lame comment by Bowyer that really has no merit.Stremme did a hell of a job while in Cup and got the boot from a dumbass owner that has knee pads for OW's.Be something if he gets a Cup ride for Penski and I hope he does.Once again a Cup driver being a kitty cat when it comes down to actual racing.Seems to be a growing trend.Someone in their PR dept. needs to tell them how much of whiney cry baby it makes them looks like.I'm sure the old schoolers like Baker,Cale, and rest his soul the 3 are just shaking their heads! It's racing boys!!
Posted by: DJ | Jun 8, 2008 9:51:27 AM
Kari,
Stremme would be saying the exact same thing if he was "moved out of the way" Bowyer.
Posted by: Jon | Jun 8, 2008 9:30:10 AM
Interesting that Bowyer chose to gripe about Stremme moving him out of the way--didn't Bowyer do the exact same thing to Reutimann after the restart? Hello--it was the LAST LAP when these guys are supposed to put on their big boy undies and GO FOR IT--Bowyer did it first then Stremme did it to him, but apparently Stremme's not supposed to be fighting for position on the last lap? Whatever, Bowyer. Blocking for the win is understandable but blocking for 2nd place? Show that you're a racer and race for it.
Posted by: Kari | Jun 8, 2008 9:12:28 AM
Gretchen - I think you will get a good laugh out of this:
"Denny Hamlin was spotted playing off the women's tees at Jack Frost National Golf Club."
Found this at foxsports.com.
Posted by: Diane | Jun 8, 2008 8:55:19 AM
I was surprised at Bowyer's comment about Stremme. I've lost some of the respect I had for him. He didn't have to insult David to get his point across. IMO Stremme is a damn good driver and also a damn good person.
EN - Maybe I've missed something but I've not seen cockiness in Logano yet. That may come later but right now what I see is confidence. From comments Jr. has made BK has a lot of cockiness in him.
Good jobs last night by Keselowski, Reutimann and Stremme. I'm sure we won't see such a good race today. I can actually read a book and watch the Pocono race at the same time and not miss a thing.
Posted by: Diane | Jun 8, 2008 8:37:27 AM
...And also congrats to JUNIOR for getting his 2nd win.....as a owner in NATIONWIDE series.
BRAD K. ran damn good, and had good
strategy to make it to victory lane.
KYLE BUSCH had a tough day...it won't be his last time he leaves a race unhappy.
DAVID RUETTIMAN still in top 5 in points for the NATIONWIDE series...he's the biggest bright spot that MIKEY has.
The SPRINTCUP RACE might be a snoozer like everyone is predicting, but I expect some trickey calls in the pits, especially toward the end.
Posted by: EARNHARDT NATION | Jun 8, 2008 4:16:39 AM
JOEY LOGANO may be talented, but his cockiness isn't winning me over at all...
He needs to learn that the fastest car doesn't win the race all the time....pit stops, strategy, driver skills, equipment, and just plain luck have a lot to do with winning a race...
Being young and thinking that NASCAR owes you something seems to be a common factor in the GIBBS racing camp these days..lol.
I got MEGADETH T-shirts that are older than these kids.
Welcome to NASCAR JOEY!
Posted by: EARNHARDT NATION | Jun 8, 2008 2:24:22 AM
Kurt2,
I am willing to bet Stremme would have reacted exactly as Bowyer did had it been the other way around, it is a common reaction among drivers .
I agree with you about tomorrows race and needing No-Doze while watching the race.
Posted by: Jon | Jun 8, 2008 12:27:31 AM
k2
an Clint didnt need to spout off with the "CUP" comment.
nice to see your non bias view and i thought it was a real cheap shot by CB.....i think CB was that type of guy to use an interview to trash aguy which seeems like the norm now
its like there is 4 teirs of drivers and certain guy should bow down to the upper teir drivers
i like BK, to me he has earned what he has
Posted by: aggie | Jun 8, 2008 12:27:28 AM
I will congrats JR Motorsports on Brad K's win tonight. He drove a damn good race and the best car won.
I see the Bowyer/Stremme end different Jon(not being mean), second replay clearly showed as Stremme said, bowyer did not arc out and did let off, Stremme had the run on him.. It was a Racing deal, an Clint didnt need to spout off with the "CUP" comment.
Well No Doze race tommorrow, early caution I bet. The 18 will inf act not be at the end of the field for long..
Have a good night all and be on from POCONO HELL tommorrow..
Daly, I miss you, are you at your favorite track with Dr Joe...?
Posted by: Kurt2 | Jun 7, 2008 11:56:01 PM
Congratulations to Brad Keselowski and the
whole #88 team on their win tonight.
Posted by: Dottie | Jun 7, 2008 11:29:05 PM
Congrats to Brad K. and the entire #88 team for his first victory in the Nationwide Series at Nashville. The #88 team just kept improving week after week and it was just a matter of time before Brad gave Jr. Motorsports a victory in the Nationwide Series.
Stremme and Bowyer had a little disagreement on who deserved the second spot and after Stremme got into the backend of Bowyer and moved him up the track Stremme got the position
Posted by: Jon | Jun 7, 2008 11:13:08 PM
Toblunt,
Every point does count and if you can get back out and pick up 2, 3 or 5 positions that can make a difference if you are in contention for Chase and you get into a big wreck like Dale Jr. did and he was able to get back on the track and pick up several positions. NASCAR does make sur ethta they maintain minimum speed and will black flag them if they don't.
Posted by: Jon | Jun 7, 2008 10:40:46 PM
toblunt - Teams will continue to put wrecked cars back on the track to earn points no matter how many laps they're down unless NASCAR changes the point system. Gaining just one spot could make a difference at the end of the season.
Posted by: Diane | Jun 7, 2008 10:37:32 PM
The reason I ask these questions is that wouldn't it be nicer to watch a race without having to worry about "lap" cars. If you are a couple laps down because of a long green run and you have been lapped, I understand, but if you are 73 laps down because you have been behind the wall fixing your car after taking the front end off of your car hitting the wall, I just don't understand it. I have heard so many time that drivers are just making laps, in the hope of gaining a couple points, why not just say that if you're in a wreck, you're DONE!!
Posted by: toblunt | Jun 7, 2008 9:21:53 PM
Just out of curiosity, what would people say that if you go behind the wall, you're done in the race?? How about a 10 minute limit for on pitroad repairs?
Posted by: toblunt | Jun 7, 2008 9:07:59 PM
Kurt2,
As long as Busch stays away from Brad K in tonights race and Dale jr. in tomorrows race I don't care what he does. :)

Joy Logano is on the pole for the Nationwide
Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville to-
night. Gosh! this kid is looking great, I
think, he's going to be another great
driver.
Kyle wrecked in practice and has to start
at the end of the pack but watch out, he'll
be coming to the front.

DJ,
You'll know how I feel when Robby wins Sonoma and/or the Glen--long time coming so you'll want to relive it over and over too! ;) Your boy is 1! Wow! Mine's just about 6 months old so we'll be starting the adventure of solid food and the big bad cup here next week--good times. I don't envy you THAT extreme heat but I'd like a little of the warmth--it's been 50 degrees, gray and rainy here all week--acting like fall instead of summer, with my daggone furnace still firing up. The weather patterns all over the country have been horrible.
Posted by: Kari | Jun 7, 2008 7:34:56 PM
Jon - Thanks for your comments. So many states have had awful weather this spring and I know you have had more than your share in OK.
DJ - Glad your little guy had a good birthday. I know what you mean about the heat index. It's been just under 100 here even with the rain.
K2 - Please try to stay as cool as possible tomorrow. It will probably be hotter at Pocono tomorrow than it will be for the rest of us and we can stay in the air-conditioning. You pit guys don't even have the cool suits so take care.
Posted by: Diane | Jun 7, 2008 7:21:52 PM
Gald to hear everyone is safe out here in blog ville..
Jon,
can we just agree to "lets all get along" at least tonight on Kyle B???
See I can, as I wont say anything on that subject back..
You guys be safe and heading to eat some dinner in the lovely Pocono and watch the Busch Race tonight... SHould be good..
Then head to " Mike Dalys" track it seems for the wonderful accomadations and superior track he loves.. God I best stop as I need knee boots, oh no I dont I am in Pocono and it might as well be knee deep in S***T.
Posted by: Kurt2 | Jun 7, 2008 7:20:39 PM
DJ,
As long as his reckless stays away from Jr. that will be fine.
Posted by: Jon | Jun 7, 2008 7:18:08 PM
Yeah guys, hope all is safe with the flooding and a shot of that rain would be welcome here as the 110 heat index is brutal.I decided to do the little man's first B day yesterday at the park which was crazy as it was miserable. He had a good turn out and seem to enjoy the socializing though!
Kari...I will let you slide with the Jayhawk stuff as you know my guy is RG.LOL!
Jon,I think we will need some of the wrecklous abandon at Pocoblow!
Well, let's go watch Lagono win his first......

Diane,
I am glad to hear your family is safe, we know extacly how you feel with the tornado's and other severe weather.
Posted by: Jon | Jun 7, 2008 6:15:10 PM
Kari,
Kyle Busch may be fun to watch if you are a fan of his, but I really can't stand to watch his careless style of racing.
Posted by: Jon | Jun 7, 2008 6:12:24 PM
Dottie,
Kathy was living in Michigan (not originally from Michigan) when we met in High School and we married a couple of years after we graduated.
Posted by: Jon | Jun 7, 2008 6:10:06 PM
Kari - You're right, the weather is much worse than usual. Thanks for asking. My family and I are fine. But Indiana has been hit hard the last 8 days, many tornadoes last Friday & again on Tuesday. Then came the monsoon rains yesterday & today. As much as 11 inches of rain in less than 24 hours. In some areas houses are being washed away by the flooding. Thousands of people have had to be evacuated from their homes. I'm praying for all of those families.
I wish we could send some of this water to you guys who need it in the south.
Posted by: Diane | Jun 7, 2008 6:01:27 PM
Woo-hoo, are we talking about those national champion Kansas Jayhawks again? ;) Just kidding--couldn't resist. I started as a freshman at KU in 1990 so I've waited a looooooooooong time for that championship--gotta relish it before it's the next team's turn. Roy can stay at UNC. The Jayhawks are just fine playing with their Self.
Diane, I just saw big flooding in Indiana--are you and yours well away from all that? The Midwest is just getting hammered this year--is it just me or is it worse than usual?
I for one can't wait for Sonoma. Kyle Busch is fun to watch but I'm ready for some Robby Gordon-type excitement.

All I can say about FS...That dog can't hunt
Posted by: Fan #5 | Jun 7, 2008 5:25:18 PM
DJ - It's not that I mind anyone using the word "ain't". But when someone writes with mostly proper English and mostly proper grammar, and then throws "ain't" into the middle of a post, it just doesn't seem right. LOL.
K2 - Have you seen the new Bass Pro Shop commercial? It stars Tony Stewart and Martin Truex Jr. promoting Bass Pro Shop. I saw it for the first time the day after the Prelude. Maybe I've been looking in the wrong direction for Tony. :)
Posted by: Diane | Jun 7, 2008 4:48:52 PM
I see FS lives once again.. Damn, dont you know when the STF up?
Now your on TY lawson, sharing wisdom. UNC vs Kansas had nothing to do with Lawon , Psycho T or anyone "declaring". (SORRY DJ AND RAD) Ty cant cut the academics at UNC period. The NCAA as a whole has been F'd for many years, but "finally" they are cracking down. FS, go online to SI.com and read the College Football or B-Ball page dailyz: Its a whom got caught with drugs, got shot, got $200K in college(OJ MAYO) to play.
I WILL SAY as much as I DESTEST UNC< TY lawson being a freaking idiot( NO LIC, reeking of booze, his carreeking of booze) was not UNC Campus, school, or Roy Williams issue. HE WAS A FREAKING IDIOT..
Now to racing:(to Diane)
FS said:
"It's already a done deal. Tony in mind and spirit has already left JGR. He's Rick's boy now. It's interesting how all the superstars are gravitating to the Dark Side"
FS, HAAS or HMS have NO CONTROL WHATSOEVER OVER A THING WITH ONE ANOTHER..
RCR leases engines and builds them , such as Roush/Yates does. TO say Smoke come to the "gay side", oops Dark side, shows you "AINT" :):) got a bit of sense period.
Regarding Eldora and Prelude:
I see Diane posted a tidbit up on WHAT car and whom was sponsoring earlier, but FS ASSumes he will be a on Fantasy Island..
Now FS to your other "logic" (LMFAO), you said once again, AGAIN keyword as you told Stacey the other night/ " ITS A DONE DEAL FROM MY SOURCES he will be with HAAS"..
Last thing for FS:
"I wonder when Jeff and Rick's gonna turn the switch off on Steve L? It's a sad affair when even Casey qualifies better than Big Daddy.
Posted by: Jon2 | Jun 7, 2008 6:22:37 AM"
I will state you are so off base, now you are all over Jeff G, Letarte, earlier in the year on Eury Jr. You never(well thus far) have liked Casey Mears..
Point being you "FLY BY NIGHT" and are the most fair weather "FAN" I have ever seen. I think the difference is when your driver does bad, has a bad year, or so, you stick with him, you just dont go "WAHHH, he isnt doing well so let me love someone else"
I dont grasp you at all, but you repeat making a total ass of yourself, switching drivers, then 2 weeks a year, or prior slam them..
WOW, going to go breath now from FS's insight..
Posted by: Kurt2 | Jun 7, 2008 4:23:58 PM
J2,you are off your rocker(once again). The fact that UNC lost to Kansas has NOTHING to do with Lawson's draft selection. Are you serious or just being your usual self?personally don't think he would be a high draft pick anyway, but to make a ridiculous statement like that shows that your depth of knowledge is lacking.I will agree that the NBA and NFL is full of thugs and idiots.
Thanks Di for backing me on his use of "ain't"...........
Yeah J2...maybe some good sound advice from Ol' Saint Rick and Chadly Doright on how to become a felon and come out smelling like a rose as well as some of the finer points for his CC's on being able to cheat the gray area and still become a champ.
Kyle messed up.Maybe if the TV dudes will keep a camara on him coming from the back the whole race,we may be entertained somewhat.......

I live in Macomb, Mi just north of Sterling

we were practically neighbors. Is Kathy,
also from Michigan? I was really surprised
to learn you are from Sterling Heights.
You and Kathy have a great week-end.

Diane,
Point 1 - Rick'll be giving him advice on how to setup a CUP team. No he won't be Tony's boss, just wanting to have some fun with you.
Point 2 - If Jeff leaves, Rick'll try to retire the number even though it's part of a NASCAR thing.
Point 3 - I'm trying real hard to improve my language skills.
