Kahne wins from the pole
Kasey Kahne had a stout car all weekend and was in the top most of the day. At one point it looked like his day may have been done when a mistake on a pitstop dropped him to the rear of the field, but he raced his way on back up and in the end, got the win and moved up three spots to 9th in the standings.
Other drivers seemed to struggle on and off throughout the race. Harvick was one of them, but somehow he ended up finishing 13th after riding in the back of the field for most of the day.
I'm not sure it was coincidence or what, but two of the cautions that came out during the race involved Hornish and Carpentier and both cautions had both cars spinning in sync.
Other drivers that had some bad luck, or just didn't do that well included Kyle Busch, Clint Bowyer, Franchitti, Montoya and Stewart.
Great run by Vickers, with his 2nd place finish, it's nice to see him up there for a change. Also a good run for Bobby Labonte and Allendinger, other drivers we usually don't see up front.
Your thoughts?

So far several people like Diane and Barb G have said "Pocono needs a major overhaul" and not provided any specifics as to what is supposedly wrong with it. If you can't cite any specifics, then you're talking out your butt.
The fact is the track has effectively rebuilt itself from 1990 onward and is still one of the best in the sport.
And no, the races do not need to be shortened - 500 miles is a superior test of machinery and driving than 400 miles and always offers a more dramatic change of outcome than a 400 miler. The argument that "they race harder in shorter races" is laughably false.
On the whole "backwoods sport" argument - where has anyone offered any reason to care? "Diversity" is a sham and is not needed anywhere.

Sorry Kathy, off topic again but thought the All-State ladies would be interested. Here's the first part of a story on Anheuser-Bush:
"Anheuser-Busch Cos., the nation's biggest brewery, received a $46 billion buyout offer Wednesday from a Belgian brewer that might be too good to refuse."

K2,
Kindly keep our mothers out of the discussion. Thank you.
Of course Poole's not liked by some in the industry primarily because he reports on things and offers observations that I'm sure run counter to the NASCAR line. In a nutshell: He has been known to step on toes.
Why am I saying this? You of all people are aware of that fact.

I hope all of you on this blog know that not
all of us yankees have such harsh opinions
of the South. Some of us wait for evidence
before making up our minds.
Your above comments goes for me also. I live
in Michigan and it's never entered my mind
to have harsh opinions about the South. I
have traveled to lots of places in the South
and the people are great, you won't find any
better any where. Some people jump to
conclusions without waiting for the hard
evidence.
Gretchen
We will be waiting for your analysis of the
lawsuit.

Gretchen,
From the things I saw on the "BS lawsiut" thats totally what it is.. please if you will, can or dont mind send that this way so i can her about hoe she was beaten down.(PUKE)
.
I love how on the front page of TR shows a picture and then Pooles fat ass chimes in. if me calling David Poole a fat ass makes me racist, so be it. He is a worthless and totally unrepscted reporter in the garage. OOPPSS he isnt he is sitting in the AC all the time and getting 3rd hand info each weekend. But not according to him..
HINT AND I CANT NOR WONT DAY MUCH> there is a reason NASACAR can not nor will NOT come at him.. Has nothing to do with the sport either,,,
J2 your mom called and wants you off the computer. Please obey her she is a women after all:):):)
Posted by: Kurt2 | Jun 11, 2008 8:46:08 PM
J2, You talk in double standards. So your words are complete shit. You know nothing about respect for other people much less women. If you are such an supporter for the racism the goes on in this country why don't you try defending your race? Why don't you try to defend the ones that are really being striped of their rights instead of jumping on every freakin' bandwagon that goes against honest hard working American people? You set there on your high horse and judge people that you know nothing about just because you want to be one of the idiots making a mockery of our justice system. The Rebel Flag is just that a Flag, there is one hanging off of our truck if you feel frisky come on over and try to remove it. I don't have a problem with black people, but I do have a problem with people to ornery to work for their money and have to sue for it.
Posted by: Graceann | Jun 11, 2008 5:59:20 PM
It worked, Diane. That's just what it looks like. It would've been cheaper for Doc to just suck it up and fly Rose to KY. If I were Rose I would've just gone to KY by myself.
It pains me too, K2, but Pocono really needs a major overhaul. I like the triangle configuration because it's different and gives teams the fits. A cookie-cutter track it's not. Racing isn't supposed to be easy. I'm also a little biased because it's in my back yard but I'd rather poke my eyes out than go to a race there. If I have to watch a race on a big screen TV when I'm in the grandstands I'll stay home and watch it on my own TV here.
I'll be anxious to read your analysis on this lawsuit, Gretchen. The only thing I dislike more than exploitation of the system is unfairly throwing blameless people under the bus.
Posted by: Barb G | Jun 11, 2008 5:47:07 PM
Well, I've just printed the 43 page lawsuit and after reading this mess, I'll post on it more thoroughly tomorrow.
I'll say this: if only 20% of the allegations I have skimmed over thusfar are with merit and true, then NASCAR has some serious management issues within their garages.
But I do dare say it reeks of sour grapes to me at this point. She got canned, and at THAT POINT each and every conversation shared amongst co-workers constitutes "hostile work environment" and "racism". Shit that was NOT an issue in 2005 and 2006 is now a HUGE issue. BECAUSE SHE GOT FIRED.
Posted by: Gretchen | Jun 11, 2008 5:11:58 PM
k2 funny you say that as that is usually the leaste xp thing to do
the place looks like ??? i dont know what out there
doc sell it give your kids the $$$ and move on cause u wont have a race soon and no $$$ and it will be worthless
Posted by: aggie | Jun 11, 2008 5:00:42 PM
this burdens me to say but the best thing that could happen is Bruton to buy it and IMPLODE it and start over from scratch..
Yep Daly true statement PER the garage
Posted by: Kurt2 | Jun 11, 2008 4:31:59 PM
Barb G - Doc Mattioli said in an interview that his wife always wanted to go to the Kentucky Derby. Since he wasn't taking her there he built the steeples to represent Churchill Downs. That's a little self-centered IMO since his track needs so many other improvements.

I vote for Kari and the Artic for FS himself, she stated a vaild point. J2, I think between the women on here , they would SHATTER your thought process on being docile and unable to handle themseleves.
I Stated what I did as a point soley, you take them time to "defend them". But then you want to beat them down.
Kari was where she was, she alone would beat your rear. Add,Kathy, Gretchen, Deb, Diane, and many more females here I would freaking pay to see that site. You against the female bloggers here.
Barb G nailed it dead on period... With Pocono same place, it DOES NOT REFLECT THE FOLKS THAT LIVE there.. I agree....
Loved the steeples.Made it Dr Joe and for Mike Daly alone...
RCR does alot all for many , they are good folks as the whole garage
Posted by: Kurt2 | Jun 11, 2008 4:28:26 PM
Congrats to KK and the #9 crew for winning at my "home" track! I'll comment on Pocono later. There's more important chit to address first.
Bite your tongue, F5. DO NOT SEND FS UP HERE! PA has more than enough FSs already The NO VACANCY sign is posted.
I'm really disappointed to read what Joey L had to say. When kids are learning to race somebody should have to teach them humility too. I hope he doesn't turn out to be Kyle B's clone.
Did you all happen to notice the two church steeples Dr Joe stuck on top of the grandstands at Pocono? WTF? I thought I made a wrong turn on I-80 and was at Churchill Downs. NASCAR teams are justifiably complaining about the racing surface and piss-poor facilities and Doc sticks church steeples on the grandstands. Oy.
I think NASCAR should seriously consider making the two races there 400 miles apiece. 500 is overkill IMHO. We were there last Friday for QF. I was shocked at how few people were milling around in the paddock area. I've never seen it so empty. If I didn't live only 30 miles away I wouldn't have been there either. Gas and grocery prices are killing me like they are most people. I'm still not sure I'll be there in August. It's a lot cheaper to watch on TV.
Nice going to the RCR crews for supporting the VJGC in a very personal way....going there to spend time with the kids. You guys ROCK and are a positive reflection of what's great about NASCAR. I've always seen RC as a fine gentleman. It's nice to know that he hires people who are a compliment to his organization.

here is what i meant about the 31 getting attention
Good thing he swerved at David Ragan on pit road and was in the same shot with Junior. Otherwise, you probably would have never seen him … even though he’s 21 points out of the championship lead!
see there otehrs ways that 31 car and team can on tv besides screwing goats and ducks on the hood of the 24-48-88 and now 9 car
lmao

All I've got is this: NO woman I know needs or wants ANY man to stand up for her as every single woman I know can and will stand up for herself.
So don't assume anything there and especially don't assume that "we've all" faced a "variety of harassment issues."
I served in the Army, including some time in a male-only unit before an involuntary detour to points middle east, and was never once harrassed in any way, shape or form. Not.Even.Close. You give respect, you gain respect, no matter what color you are, what gender you are or what you look like.
DO NOT send him to Iraq and subject the good men and women of our military to him. That's just not right. How about Antarctica?
Posted by: Kari | Jun 11, 2008 3:34:50 PM
This is solely based on NON factual reasoning here but......I see it this way.
Girl was employed for long enough to have developed close friendly relationships with her co-workers. When you work that closely with folks, you do cut up, joke, kid around with one another.
So, it IS possible that some of the shit in the lawsuit is truthful insofar as her co-workers and she are running off at the mouth saying overboard shit. And it's ALL in good fun. UNTIL she gets her ass canned for a violation or for making a shit decision in a sport that cans drivers and cc's as often as some change panties.
For instance, at my job , we cut up with each other quite a bit. At 4:30 part of our crew goes home. It just so happens that it's 4 black ladies. So, some days I'll "holla" at them from the fire escape, " Hey why do all the black people get to leave at 4:30?!" And then we all bust up laughing and it's all funny. UNTIL one of them gets canned- god forbid that happen- then it's racial harrassment and hostile work environment. One of our Attorneys is gay, and asks often " Why do I always have to chose where we eat lunch?" and we- my black co-worker and I say " Because your gay" and THAT too is gut busting funny- UNTIL a loss of J-O-B occurs. Prior to my weight loss, everything I complained about having to do was "Because your fat Gretchen". FUNNY as hell, unless I get canned. THEN I can use it to sue my employer for HWE issues.
Anybody see my point? I can see some of the shit getting said- BUT not in the context homegirl is using it in............

This is a black eye against NASCAR without respect to the final outcome of this discrimination lawsuit.
NASCAR has a significant image issue out there anyway. What with the Confederate flag. Hardly any Blacks in attendance or prominent in the sport like in the NBA, NFL, and baseball. Only three Blacks who ever raced in the top tier in it's 60+ year history.
NASCAR has it's work cut out for in the area of diversity. An article in Portfolio's February issue stated: "...NASCAR remains an intolerant backwoods sport. The incident (where Gibb's former dev African American driver, Marc Davis, racing at Hickory in 2006 was told to "Go home n____" by several of the hundred irate fans regarding a racing incident.) called attention to what is perhaps the worst-kept secret in the business: America's top racing franchise, with more than $380million in revenue and a combined live and TV fan base of about 75 million, has a race problem..."
Brian France has a long road ahead of him and one of his plans was to broaden NASCAR's minority base. This recent incident can only impede that objective.

FS YOU HAD TO HUH????
"Deb,
I piss you off? What about the Black female who was sexually as well as racially harrassed by NASCAR officials, where's your indignation related to those very serious allegations?
For the love of the G-d of your choice, here's a white boy (me) coming to the defense of an embattled female and he's (me) getting dumped all over by her own gender who probably having faced a variety of harassment issues at one time in their careers are siding with the perps.
Posted by FS himself"
Oddly enough you are a white male, . I can tell you one thing FS, I can walk thru the garage with Kathy, Deb, Diane, Kari, Stacey, Gretchen, Dottie or any woman on this board and NOT A THING WOULD BE said to them or "insinuated " at all, even if I walk away from them .Why?
Because as a driver I spoke to last night and today on this stated "we dont roll like that", and we dont treat women with disrespect, or pieces of meat. So go to Poole on this should you need to, he would even state the same thing.
I find it odd you came at Deb such as you did . You "are a man standing up for a female". But oddly enough it appears you have no issue with "talking down to a female"..
No me and you would never click. You ever came at mine (wife) or any female near me the way you do "treating them like crap". You wouldnt have to worry about being on the blog, or typing ever again. Ever..
So on this why dont you take your self away, you claim one thing but have no issue treating a women like a material object that "you" rule over.
Trust me you arent that spunky,=

J2....you knew it was coming, didn't you?You got reemed enough so I'll chill.......
Rock on girls!J2,I knew the Bubba reference was coming from you which pisses me off,but not as much as it used to because I expect such narrow, shallow thoughts. You may have a small point though and this is my shot in the dark opinion on the deal. She DID know what she was getting into. She had a plan.No matter what the policies and procedures say and how hard a company may push harrassment issues,it still occurs.I have no idea if there is any merit to her suit.K2 I'm sure has a good idea as he is there. But the way people think nowadays on how to get $$ without working or putting themselves in a job that they know something like this could happen is what happens.Either way this is a PR nitemare for Nascar and it will only get worse. They may try to settle with her just to save some face.Unfortuneatly she gets alot of lute for her troubles. So,we may never know the real deal and can only speculate as we do on the blogs or where ever.If it does go to court, then that may be the only way us as speculators will find out the truth.Society sucks for the most part.GA is right on.Sad state of affairs.Deb,K2...may favs as well, the biggest opportunists in the good ol' US Al and Jesse are probly already all over this like stink on poo.For me,I'll put it in the KK,rent a cop episode till I learn more....
Honestly, this story is just another sad, crappy chapter that we deal with each and everyday.I am almost numb to shit like this with all the crap stories from the middle east, the high gas prices that people with much less than I have to deal with, and tornadoes, earthquakes and flooding all over the world. No wonder I enjoy a cold adult beverage of choice so much!!

Diane,
From the get go this entire thing was a train wreck waiting to happen. Here's a Black female employed in an environment that is: 1) run by Southern White men who are very provincial in their culture, 2) a culture that still considers the Confederate flag to be relevant, and 3) a US sport that, unlike the other major US sports venues, doesn't have any Black drivers in it's top tier. This history has got exclusionist written all over it.
It appears Ms. Grant has witnesses and some other former employees might talk about instances that occurred against them. This is going to be interesting. All the major news outlets have this sad racist episode out there.
I am truly touched you have my wellbeing at heart. We may have our disagreements on occasion but it's always heart warming to know that us Hoosiers are there for each other.

You are not from the south and you have no right to say a freakin word about the Bubba
crap and this black woman which is doing the black thing by screaming discrimination.
Everything she said is nothing but bullcrap.
Easy way for them to make money, cause any day now Jessie freakin Jackson is going to show his mouthy face in this. I see and hear this crap everyday here in Atl. She got fired and now payback for her is the race card. Since you love to bring up the Bubba thing and the south, hers's a few words for you from a southern girl: get your YANKEE ASS out of here and go back where you belong and leave the south to us southerners. NOW FS: Here is your PG anwser to the Bubba comments:
"Victory Junction NASCARnival Night: On Tuesday, the Richard Childress Racing's Sprint Cup Series over-the-wall crews made a special visit to the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, N.C. While at the camp, the crews ate dinner with the campers and demonstrated real-time pit stops. Additionally, RCR's over-the-wall teams took hot air balloon rides, played carnival games and made snow cones with the campers. All the campers this week suffer from Chron's disease, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects an estimated 500,000 people in the United States."
