Goodbye Gibbs, Hello Stewart Haas Racing
Tony Stewart made his official announcement today. It is what everyone had suspected, Stewart is now 50% owner of the new Stewart Haas Racing, what didn't happen was announcements about drivers or sponsors.
Stewart will drive one of the cars, who will drive the other is still unknown, although rumors have Newman and Truex in the mix. It'll be interesting to see which driver does get the second ride, what the official sponsor announcement will be and if there will be any number changes, which is a possibility according to some.
So, the fans have some answers, Tony won't be at Gibbs anymore and hopefully the other stuff falls into place soon. I guess the biggest question is - will Tony be able to turn things around over there and make them a competitive organization for the title?
I wish Tony the best of luck with his new team and hope he finds Victory Lane soon!
Your thoughts?

Owning a Winston Cup team is ligthyears bigger than owning sprint car teams; the responsibilities are far greater; it's too much for a driver to do; Gene Haas will have to control the team for Stewart to be able to drive.
One thing about this venture no one has commented on - Stewart will not have control of his team's engines or racecars; they'll all be Hendrick stuff. Teams that use engines built by someone else have won just 15 races from February 1990 onward; Hendrick-engined customer cars in particular lose their engine deals if they start beating the Hendrick guys with any consistency.
The first thing Stewart/Haas needs to do, and Chevrolet absolutely needs to support them on this, is sever their ties with Hendrick and build their own engines and racecars.

Dottie - Your balls did excellent - 1st, 2nd & 5th. Very good.
NASCAR has backed off of their accusations on the 96. They seem to be doing a lot of that lately.
Posted by: Diane | Jul 13, 2008 2:03:44 PM
Jon - I agree. Whether it's Republicans or Democrats they are more worried about getting re-elected in the future and what happens to their party than they are in doing what they really should. They all need to grow some gonads.

Diane
My balls did good this week but not as good
as your's. I had three out of the top five,
#18, 48, 20.
Comparing Kyle B. to Tim Richmond. I made a
similar statement on a blog quite sometime
ago. I agree with you, he's the closest
driver to Tim Richmond I've ever seen also.

Diane,
Good point, but if our elected representatives would actually do what we sent them to Washington to do we actually see things get done, instead they are too busy worrying about their party and power. :(

aggie - My ball did good this week. Its picks finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th & 16th. Four out of the top five :).
KyB, love him or hate him, is a phenom. He's the closest driver to Tim Richmond I've ever seen.
Gotta give a shout out to Vickers and Allmendinger. Great job!!! I'm pulling for those guys.
The problem with Congress is that neither party has a big enough majority. So nothing of importance gets done.
Posted by: Diane | Jul 13, 2008 11:30:02 AM
The Democratic Congresses' approval rating is now in the single digits. Worst ever in the history of the Republic.
Whatever happened to the Dem's Commonsense Energy Plan Nancy Pelosi was championing into the run up of the 2006 election? You know the one which would lower prices and ease the citizen's burden.
Never happened, they have/had no plan. The other side does; utilize the availability of your own natural resources as do other nations.
F#5,

Dems will keep the economy slow so folks like exile can blame it on "W."
nobody is in control in dc except big corps and lobbyists.

PS- Just giving you a little support there, Jon. lol
Posted by: Ironman | Jul 13, 2008 2:30:22 AM
Hey, exile, kinda funny how our economy has hit this slow-down since your boy Harry Reid and his buddy Nancy Pelosi got control of the House.
Gas prices will stay high until election time, when hopefully their boy Obama gets beaten like a drum. Dems will keep the economy slow so folks like exile can blame it on "W."

oops...
sorry jon.
what i meant to say was how good a job leading the free world he is doing.
yeah man i was hoping jimmie would win it.
maybe it will open some eyes to the fact that ky is beatable.

Exile,
You had to add the dig on Bush didn't you. :)
Posted by: Jon | Jul 13, 2008 2:01:41 AM
It paid off one more time for Kyle Busch with a last minute caution when it looked like race leader had it in bag. It was like deja-vou except it was Jimmie Johnson instead of Dale Earnhardt jr. in the lead and pulling away from Busch with only a handful of laps left. I am not going to mention you know what Kurt2, so don't jump on me.

Who gives a shit if a manufacturer makes any kind of vehicle?
maybe shareholders since big vehicles are sitting on the lots unsold. it's still a sell shit game at the car lots.
back in the last gas crunch, remember when it went to a buck fifty, the poor who couldn't afford gas drove cheap olds 98's and more affluent people could pay to downsize.
a local used car lot has big suv's discounted and one little geo metro 4 door at a jacked up price. one of these days i'll see that little metro at 6k and the sweet 4 door escalade pu at 2500.
to think 4+ buck ain't affecting things is stickin your noggin in the sand.
does bush get a bonus when gas hits 7 or 8 bucks ??

K2
So you have no problem with KB throwing Mark C under the bus and telling what to do! COOL, nice to know-- even if it is working out - it is not becuase of ego boy-
I was soooo hoping that JJ & Kb would take each other out and Kevin would win- sweet- HE deserves it-
But it's nice to know K2 you think more of KB than Mark C and that Mark C needed KB for his work guidance.
Posted by: Frances | Jul 13, 2008 1:46:47 AM
that was going to be a great finish with the 48 pulling away from the 18.
see... jimmie ain't afraid of no busch boy.
however, that was a hell of a good pass by ky.
of course jimmie did admit to taking the low line and leaving the outside open and how dumb of him to do that.

Last time I checked, this was America. I thought we were free to drive whatever we want. Who gives a shit if a manufacturer makes any kind of vehicle? If people want to spend their money filling up a gas guzzler, that's their business. If I want to buy a Hummer, what the fuck is it to anyone else?

But I've come through
We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting - till the end -
We are the champions -
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions - of the world -
I've taken my bows
And my curtain calls -
You brought me fame and fortuen and everything that goes with it

I thank you all -

Go back and re-read my post. I'm not trying
to tell you or anyone not to buy a Hummer.
You have my blessing, go buy as many as you
like.
Kari
Good post and thanks much. I didn't know
what Jon was talking about when he mentioned
slashing tires on a Hummer. I agree with
you, I feel the same way about the Hummer.

Posted by: Jon | Jul 12, 2008 8:11:21 PM
Jon,
You're not dumping on me at all. I ranted about something and you asked me essentially to defend my rant--nothing wrong with that. There are some things that just bug people that we can't always defend or explain and for me, Hummers happen to be one of those things.
Posted by: Kari | Jul 12, 2008 7:31:22 PM
Kari,
I understand and I apologize if it seems like I am dumping on you.
I pretty much feel the same about a Lexus, Benz or Vette, they are all vanity purchases. I would much rather own an original Hummer than a Suburban, Expidition or Explorer.
Posted by: Jon | Jul 12, 2008 7:19:50 PM
Jon,
The Hummer strikes me more as a vanity vehicle than a SUV-type vehicle purchased to deal with a large family or need for large cargo hauling capacity. It doesn't serve any special purpose that a Suburban or Explorer or Expedition or similar vehicle doesn't serve. As I said, it's just a personal thing with me. I don't have a problem with people showing off their wealth by purchasing expensive vehicles but the Hummer just gets under my skin. I don't expect you or anyone else to like or understand it but that's just the way I feel.

Aggie.
To correct it was in fact 9 engines taken from all teams last night.. Watched it happen..
Chevy has the new one coming, Dodge does as well.. Roush/Yates has one in development as well.... It will be brought forward next year on all accords. IMO only Mrk did a good good doing what he did..
Frances, yep he said it and went to talk to him (Mark C) last I checked it is workign well..
To the new FS ahead(tom ????) yeah TOny is making a major mistake, he will fail. ROTFLMAO.. You have no conceot of money being depleted from Chevy to make TOnys 50% worthwhile..
Jon... I am not sure(like me) if it was a typo earlier but I have a new name for HMS. FSMS.. That would be F**KTOIDS place..I am sure Tony cares what Ricks tells him and RIck will manage to safe him.. Thanks for dealing with the inbred FS as you did..
Ball says
6,17,83,9 18 throw the 31 in the mix as well.........Yes this is a Roush trackl usually.. Cant rule a F U from Smoke tonight and win as well..He had a pretty good week...
J2, FS, F**KTOID>>>
Your sources are "impeachable and absoulte".. Lets make a bet on the 2nd driver for Smoke now..
Here is the bet, easy and simple.. The LOSER between us walks away from the BLOG (KATHY's).. Show me you got a pair.... Come on.....

Kari,
Even with our demand decreasing (US demand has gone down)the increase of demand in China and India has raised the worldwide demand to above the supply.
Posted by: Jon | Jul 12, 2008 4:55:25 PM
Thank you Kari and I apologize Dottie about tire slashing part.
Why exactly is it a stupid vehicle for a civilian to own? The consumer version is more like a SUV than the original Hummer. Besides not many people could afford the $140,000.00 price tag.
Most people buy large SUV's because they have big families or carry too much cargo for a family size car.
Posted by: Jon | Jul 12, 2008 4:52:46 PM
Jon,
I'm the one who wants to slash the Hummer's tires, not Dottie. I like to set a good example for my kids though, so I wouldn't actually vandalize one. ;) Call it my personal little "thing," right, wrong or indifferent, I just hate 'em as a civilian vehicle. I don't dispute anyone's right to own any vehicle they have the desire to buy and maintain but I'll always think the Hummer's a silly, stupid vehicle for a civilian to own.
Given the high rate of oil consumption in the US compared to worldwide consumption, demand in the US absolutely does play a role in the rising cost as does the growing demand overseas.
Posted by: Kari | Jul 12, 2008 3:45:34 PM
aggie - Hey man, why didn't you go ahead and let your gps ball pick the other drivers in the top 13. LOL.
Posted by: Diane | Jul 12, 2008 3:38:50 PM
Dottie,
With all do respect who are you to tell anyone what vehicle they can buy or drive? If I want to buy a Hummer or any car for that matter you don't have the right to tell me I can't or threaten to do damage to it if you see it parked some where.
The high oil and gas problems have nothing to do with the demand in the US, it has to do with worldwide demand. If we could expand drilling for oil in the US and increase our supply it would counteract the effects of the worldwide demand which in turn would reduce the price of oil by 25.00 - 50.00 per barrel.

JOLIET, Ill. – NASCAR officials took 10 engines from Nationwide Series cars amid clamor from non-Toyota teams claiming they need help engine-wise to compete with the Toyotas.
It was the third time this year that NASCAR has taken engines for evaluation. It did so at Atlanta in March and Milwaukee two weeks ago.
Toyota has won 14 races in the series this year, while Chevrolet has won four and Ford has won two.

Only the service men/women who are over seas
fighting need the Hummer. With gas prices
like they are today who can afford one. My
car has an 18 gal. tank and it cost me
$40.00 for a half tank yesterday. G.M. needs
to ditch the Hummer as soon as possible.

Jon2,
Rick Hendrick will not be in the background, the FMS sells Haas/CNC engines and cars not tells them how to run their organization. You obviously have no idea how bisunesses operate, just because you buy parts from a company for your business doesn't give the supplier any input in how you operate your business.
Tony already has the ability to run a racing organization and he doesn't need Hendrick's input unless he asks for it.
You have a very unnatural obsession with Rick Hendrick and FMS, not that you aren't entitled to your beliefs, but it gets really tiring reading it in your comments all the time.
Posted by: Jon | Jul 12, 2008 12:41:10 PM
J2 - You continue to amaze me with your comments. I'm beginning to think that Rick Hendrick is "your God of choice". If Tony's successful with this new deal, it will have nothing to do with "Rick helping him to navigate CUP ownership".
