Kyle Busch gets the win over Edwards in a green-white-checkered/caution finish
Nascar had to go to video coverage and scoring loops to see who won and Kyle Busch came out the victor over Carl Edwards.
It seemed like Jeff Burton and Ryan Newman both had targets on their backs last night. Both drivers were caught in separate incidents, not by their own making, not once, but twice. The second incidents for both, killed their chances at a decent finish and they both dropped in the standings. Newman dropped two spots to 17th in the standings, making his Chase chances slimmer and Burton lost 2nd in points because of his last incident.
There were some surprise finishes by some drivers, ones we're not use to seeing up there, one in particular was Robby Gordon with a 6th place finish, way to go Robby. Once again. other than a Gibbs car, Vickers got another decent finish, coming in 11th.
One driver that finished well, David Ragan, was a complete menace in the turns, just ask Kevin Harvick who was running up in 5th before being bump drafted through the turn and dropped down to like 14th. He ended up finished 12th, but with Kenseths 3rd place finish, he dropped to 13th in the standings, two points out of 12th. I was listening to the scanner and Harvick had a few choice words for the way Ragan was driving. Funny how NASCAR said nothing to anyone who was bump drafting in the turns like they've done before.
I was surprised to see Tony get out of the car, he really must have not felt well. I read they gave him like five bags of fluid after he got out of the car in the infield care center. He supposedly hasn't been feeling well for a couple of weeks, but it hadn't impacted him until now. Hope he gets well soon.
I have to say I was impressed with Jeff Gordon's post-race interview with him not lashing out at Edwards for dumping him, Gordon admitted to blocking Edwards so he wasn't really surprised that he got spun. Still, I was expecting him to be mad about it, but he surprised me with his interview and I have to give him credit for that.
Your thoughts?

Oops, forgot Dave--
I know Def Lep is well past their prime but this girl likes to ignore reality sometimes so shhhhhhh. They're not in the same league as the classics you mentioned but they had a big hand in really defining the sound of the 80s. My husband says they keep making the same CD over and over. I say, "So what?" ;)
Posted by: Kari | Jul 11, 2008 10:14:46 AM
Exile,
The husband's got a list too. Haven't you ever heard of that? No fun talking about foxy celebs if you can't think about the "possibilities." I don't think anyone on my list will ever be one of my neighbors--I can't picture Joe Elliott living in the modest little ranch house next door--so no worries there. And Matt Damon in his Jason Bourne persona only exists on film so cross another one off...

exile, UPS went with DJ. But, they would've been better off staying with Yates.
Toyota has the hp advantage, this year. If a Toyota team can't be competitive, now, they will be in trouble when the competition gets closer.
J2, FS, FT, DW, (choose your own acrynym), you have no clue. You're pot-stirring is not worth responding to. But, keep thinking that Sir Rick will tell Junior or Tony what they will or will not do. I'm glad that you like Lynyrd Skynyrd, but keep thinking that they like your Neil Young @SS. You need to lay off that stuff.
Diane, I guess you can see that I agree with you. I like Great White, sad their tragedy. Aerosmith, Kiss, and AC/DC were greats. IMO, the rest were good while it lasted.
Kari, that's nothing against Def Leppard (sp?). They went through alot and their drummer is an inspriration.
K2 and DJ, I'm a cheap-skate. Tantric and Alterbridge are playing, for free, tomorrow night(Raleigh). But, I will be paying to see STP.
K2, don't throw WASP at DJ. You might get one of the Gore's preaching to you. I know that you don't need anyone else preaching BS.
aggie, I don't even want to type about that POS MV.

Anyone who thinks Tony will be anyone's "boy
is sadly mistaken.
You got that right Kari, Tony is his own man
and he will continue to be.

there has to be some kind of limit on that
like he can't live next door for instance.

Diane,
Remember Joe's Union Jack shorts??? Aging myself there... Sad to say, both times I saw them in concert was as a full-fledged adult, once in Texas and once in New York at the state fair with fake Journey and their Steve Perry lookalike Steve Oteri. It was wild.
Aggie,
"Five-for-free list" = five guys. Husband can't say a word. Lucky for him, I never made it backstage at the above Def Lep concerts! (Just kidding...mostly.) ;)

DJ - Lover Boy, that's the Canadian band I was trying to think of. Remember Night Ranger's "Sister Christian"? Never did understand what that song was about.
It's funny that we always think fondly of the old days. :)
DJ - Air guitar contest with a lot of booze involved no doubt. LOL.
J2 - Wow, you listed some pretty good bands, especially The Doors and Steppenwolf. I like Daughtery too and have their 1st CD. Maybe you have some "coolness" in you after all.
exile - I didn't know BTO was Canadian. aggie mentioned them earlier in a blog.

DJ,
As far as the regional thing, love Lynyrd but that's about as far as it goes with the South.....forgot, gotta give a shout out to our locals: Daughtery, Aiken, & Fantasia :-)
Though don't get the impression I'm putting them in the same category as Lynyrd, please don't.
Dig: Pink Floyd, Clapton - Cream, Beatles, Blue Oyster Cult, Sly and the Family, Procul Harum, Stones, Doors, Steppenwolf, Zeppelin, Canned Heat, Grand Funk...and on.
Those dudes rocked my boat....light some incense...light up some....stuff. Ya get the picture, man...get a little uncomfortably numb?

J2,I'm sure my epistle(as if I know what the the hell that is)is more enjoyable reading than your blowhard approach on HMS,Nascar and your ridiculous stabs at us regular folks...
Ok...you are right J2,those blowhards can't drive a lick and they are just in Cup for their good looks.Whatever dude...You still didn't (as usual)answer my question about the HMS Haas connection.Driver may have a little something to do with it,but I thought they got their engines from HMS?
Geez, you are like a dog in a factory full of hubcaps..Crazy man, just crazy.........
I'm with you Di and Kari...love all those.I like my Southern rock with Foghat,Molly Hatchet and 38 Special as well.J2,curious as to what you like as well. You like that Rebel Flag type music as well, yes?Little Sweet Home Alabama?Rock on J2,rock on bro.....

Kari - Joe Elliott's a very good choice !! As I've told someone else on here Nikki Sixx might be at the top of my list, Jon Bon Jovi isn't bad either.
Gotta get these bands off of my mind and get ready for practice, etc.
Kari - Speed did come back and show a lot of the press conference. But nascar.com carried the whole 45 minutes.

K2,
Good G-d almighty one of those "walk on the water" Jesus miracles musta occurred with respect to Rick. He get's leukemia the day of his sentencing and G-d and man's medicine cures him the day of his release from house arrest. Holy Moses a miracle has occurred.
G-d you're one insensitive....What's up there K2, got an axe to grind with the HMS org that you gotta make insensitive comments about a man's disease? Did they throw your resume in file 13 at one point in your NASCAR career? It's tough to be told you're not good enough for us. Was it JJ's snub at that airgun competition that broke your heart?
DJ,
I read your lengthy drawn out epistle.
Quality drivers are the major factor in a car's performance and these two don't have it. Don't have it with HAAS and didn't have it prior to coming on board with 'em. Just my opinion. You don't agree with mine that it isn't the equipment, I don't with yours. What else is new?
Posted by: Jon2 | Jul 10, 2008 4:10:24 PM
Ahhhhhhh, Def Lep. Joe Elliott's been on my five-for-free list since I was 15. If the husband gets Martina McBride, I get Joe! ;)

Thanks, Speed, for crapping out. I had the baby napping and work was done then *poof*--did they pick it back up after the initial "technical difficulty"? From what I did see, Tony still looked a little gray and hollow around the eyes--I hope he starts feeling better soon.
DJ,
Bryan Adams and Foreigner??? *drooling* Will everyone still believe I'm 29 if I admit that my first-ever music purchase was the Bryan Adams cassette tape, Reckless? ;) Saw him in concert in high school and own every CD he's ever released.
It seems to me that GEM can't get past having just one car do well and their engines...well, for a while there last year, nearly every week one Evernham/GEM-built engine was letting go. That doesn't seem to be the case this year but I don't think they're close to the Toyota or Chevy engines yet--though I'm just a girl watching it all on TV, so what do I know??
As far as "unimpeachable sources," I'll take our resident pit crew member over anyone that Jon2 cites any day of the week. If Tony had been content to just be a driver, maybe he would have retired with JGR, but when someone comes along dangling ownership, I'd guess that would change his thinking a bit--in fact, he has as much as said so. Seeing how KHI has progressed in just a few years might have helped Tony make his decision as well.
Posted by: Kari | Jul 10, 2008 3:59:24 PM
Yes aggie, Bryan is a Canadian. :). There was another good rock band from Canada but I can't remember who it was. Do you remember?

DJ - The 80s hair bands have always been my favorites. I have an old Great White CD. When you listen to "Once Bitten Twice Shy" with headphones it sounds like a semi truck is driving straight through your head from one ear to the other. Very cool. What about Slaughter, Poison, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, White Snake, Quiet Riot, Kiss, AC DC, Aerosmith, etc.
K2 - You get to see another good concert next week. I'm telling you I'm still jealous.
K2 - I know this is a silly question to ask a guy, but did Tony look as good in person as he did on TV? Nice hair, nice white shirt, and as cleanly shaved as Smoke can get. :):)
Barb G - Wouldn't it have been nice to be there in person? We could have had a great time. Hoping the Old Spice car can get #10 this week (6 with Tony). And that "Big Orange" can get the first of the year.

I kind of liked FS but F**Ktoid it is from now on.
Who in their right mind would ever even try to control Smoke? Many have tried and many have failed. One of the things I like most about Tony is his individuality and spunk. It tickles me when he, and Robby, make NASCAR and their "rules' look like morons. Now that Smoke is a team owner I expect him to keep it up.

Somehow I knew that you hadn't read throughly my post earlier from above J2 when I mentioned the deal with those drivers.I knew I should have reposted so you wouldn't come back with that narrow-minded approach.I said earlier that I know that Riggs and whoever drives the 70(Leffler,Sauter,Green)don't have the record of the great HMS drivers, but they are not that bad either. If you are in Cup(minus some OW's)you CAN drive a car.So don't give me that shit about look who drives the 66 and 70.Equipment and $$$ rules the day in today's Nascrap.Driver skill is needed, but you can't tell me good equipment will compensate for someone not quite as talented behind the wheel..
Oh well beating a dead horse gets me no where...
Diane,I love making you happy!
K2....wanted to go,but the funds were depleted from crab leggs, steak, beer and beer from the beach. The Sixx AM CD is good as well.Nicki Sixx(bassest from MC) started that group. The whole CD is based on his battles with his addicitions. It's pretty cool.Thinking about the Bryan Adams and Foriegner concert.Playing ball in Charlotte this weekend......

K2,
So the court appointed doctor that examined Rick prior to sentencing, at the Court's instruction as well as expense, and concurred with the defendants doctor that he had leukemia (typically a death sentence), thus elgible for house arrest, was in on the fix?

Good one J2, had the $$$$$ end of Yota he would have retired there. GM is hurting but coughed enough money in this to get him away..
Talk about crediblity. Your stupid ass had him goin got the 5 car....Why wouldnt he change junk for better equipment from another Chevy team???? The only one thats run consistent there has beeen JR... Next.. You are like a bad case of ...I will stop there.
FS, no comment on how Ricks illnesss went away so fast????? you never touch that one do you??? As you cant, he lied to get "house arrest"..
I think DJ man you meant he is smoking "poole or Rick":0

K2,
New name for FS, love it.
Am I right to say that HMS has no control or ownership in Haas/CNC or will have no control or ownership in SHR? Isn't their only relationship that Haas/CNC leases engines and chassis from HMS and maybe some technical support? Isn't it similar to leasing a car from a dealership? They wouldn't own any part of me, I would just be paying them for a service. And I can go lease a car from another dealership if I want to. I hope that's what Tony does. Maybe I'm wrong about all of this but I don't think so.
I'm not pleased that Tony will be partner to someone who is in prison. But I don't know the details of Haas' crime except that it's about tax evasion. Maybe one day he will buy Haas out.
I got your reference to Buckcherry and listened to the lyrics. You're right, I think it fits. LOL.
DJ - I think we just waste our time trying to get J2 to see the truth. It's hardly worth it except that it relieves some of the pent up anger I have after reading one of his ridiculous posts.

Well anyone who rents to own furniture in my book is mathematically challenged.
I know Mikey gets dumped on by a lot of people here, but when it came to restrictor plate races from 2001 - 2004, there was no greater force than Mikey and Junior hooking up to dominate that venue during that period. I still recall Jeff G's frustration during that time at those tracks commenting that neither HMS and the others had the answer to defeating DEI.

Barg G..it's called a pole
J2....So tell me "all knowing",why are the 66 and 70 running like shit then?Seems to me HMS doesn't really worry about what you are saying as they are afilliated with a team with both cars outside the top 35??
Whatever dude,whatever............

Exile I agree man, Smoke is fine with money and can walk away whenever he feels like it..
Not to mention with ownership, he gets to bitch a little more now @ the POWERS that be..
Diane and Barb G you are right on all accounts above.. I swear F**Ktoid(new name) doesnt read shit unless it remotely deals with HMS. HMS "LEASES" to Haas.. I have a feeling that will be changing real soon and be regulated to another engine and chasis program thats a Chevy..
On Smoke shaving and all the dumb crap above.. i really mean this nice. JR hasnt changed he didnt shave last weekend and sorry FS, no ones contract states you have to shave, diet, and look like a total prick (JJ) to drive a race car.
Casey Mears has always been clean cut prior. Jeff had let the hair grow prior and he has sported a goatee once but shaved it after the offseason..
JR is Jr, Tony.. not going to change it.. The only thing Haas and HMS have in common are 2 owners (rick and Gene) are freaking criminals that have been convicted. One said (Rick) he had a incurable disease so he wouldnt go to prison, that has disappeared , kinda like Magic Johnsons stunt with AIDS. Gene just screwed up majorly and did go.
SOLEY IMO neither should be allowed back in NASCAR. You think Ricks a sweetheart( thats to FS), he is just a half of step behind Felix and Chip and thats not great company to be in.
Well heading over shortly to see this LIVE IN PERSON.. I am sure Poole is sitting and eating already... You guys be good and have fun.. I swear FS tried to piss people off..
FS, go look for this song and dedicate it to Rick on your behalf.. "Crazy Bitch", by Buckcherry.. Nope its not PG but it sounds like you sing that to him when he is on TV..Seems your love song to him.. No one got that probaly but Diane..:)
