Edwards sweeps Michigan
Carl Edwards held off Kyle Busch to get the win. Late race cautions for debris kept closing the field back up, but Busch didn't have enough to catch Edwards.
Blaney took a hard hit into the wall and three of the Hendrick cars had trouble. Two Hendrick cars were caught up in the same incident of three wide racing and apparently not enough room for one of them. Johnson had to go in because his tire got cut and went a lap down, he eventually got back on the lead lap with the very last caution, but again spun before crossing the line and finished 17th.
Gordon wasn't as luck as Johnson, his tire went down a few laps after the incident with Johnson and he hit the wall hard, they tried to fix the car and get it back out, but they couldn't do it and Gordon ended getting a DNF and finishing 42nd.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., appeared to be doing well for most of the race, he even led some, but on the last restart he got into the outside wall and did some major damage to the car as compared to what is usually seen when a car slaps the outside wall, he ended up finishing 23rd.
Denny Hamlin also had an engine blow near the end of the race and Kasey Kahne also had engine problems, so there was a bit of a shakeup in the points, especially for the guys trying to stay in the Chase and those trying to get in.
Kyle Busch still leads the standings, as if that was ever going to change, followed by Edwards, Johnson, Earnhardt Jr. and Burton, all of those stayed the same, even with Johnson and Jr.'s problems. The rest of the field got shaken up a bit, Tony Stewart moved up one spot to 6th, Biffle moved up three spots to 7th, Harvick moved up three spots to 8th, Jeff Gordon dropped three spots to 9th and Matt Kenseth moved up moved up two spot to 10th. To round out the Chase standings, both Kahne and Hamlin dropped three spots to 11th and 12th. Next week is Bristol, which could shake things up even more.
Congrats to Edwards for the weekend sweep.

It would be awesome to have that star back on the 28 hood. But, it looks like there will be no chance of that happening.

For the very select few readers who didn't understand, or totally misconstrued, my "number fiasco" post above, let me clarify.
I am a Junior fan. I own MANY #8 Bud Die Casts, koozies, trash cans, t shirts, etc. As well as some newly acquired #88 $hit. I am fully well educated in the dynamics of the who's what's why's how's of Dale Jr.'s wish to take his beloved #8 with him to FMS.
My ONLY point was that it was, IMHFO, a jam up move by Tony Stewart to switch Newman's # in order to allow MMS to be able to use the #4 if they can get back into CUP.
And, as a Junior fan, I have brought up his whole "number" drama a few occasions. To me, just my opinion, it's all pretty funny now even though last year it wasn't. Some folks were trashing the evil stepmonster for refusing to give it up, some were trashing him for having the audacity to ask to take it with him as he walked out the door of his father's company.
I can't remember the answer, but I asked on here if anyone could recall any other NASCAR driver ever actually asking a team that he was LEAVING, if he could take his number with him.
WE as NASCAR fans listened to a whole bunch of NUMBER DRAMA last year. From time to time i do reference the number fiasco, as it all seems so trivial now, compared to how dramatic it was then.
My only point was about Stewart's descision, and the fact that NASCAR nation need not be embroiled in yet another number drama scenario.

Did everyone hear that the North Georgia Bigfoot is a hoax? Who would've guessed? :)
Posted by: Rachel | Aug 20, 2008 11:19:30 AM
Yo Frances! The ONLY person who brought up the #8 was you. It's old news and we were discussing current events.
Fish wrapper indeed, aggie. Somebody must've hung a sign up out front that says "Dingbats welcome here". Oy.
You might want to save some of that firewater for me, Graceann. It was freakin' 45 degrees here this morning in the lovely P----- mountains of Pennsylvania. Brrrr.

News you can use for what ass wipe?? wrapping fish
sad days in media when the national enquirer makes and breaks more stories about bs than real issues in society that people should be reading about
these sex scandals are so lame already.....like impress me already
like lets see some guy screwing 7 goats in a line up at a subway waiting for his order to be taken
or better yet get the guy to screw a duck while the duck is flying to the moon backwards
or for field and stream guys screwing a goat on the tank of his halrey while riding the wild life loop in custer state park
now those would be front page stories that the national inq should be covering
50k get real he should have spent 50k on her face that woman is butt ugly......a guy like kerry out in ca with a woman like that will get chewed up and spit so fast

Aggster,
Whose the whoremonger, Texaco or Ganassi?
come on like u dont know??
like i said texaco has great roots with the 28 car and would only make sense but hey who knows what their marketing plans are
the irl is only a 5-7 million deal i hear?? far cry from 25 in cup and in irl they are top dogs so why pay 25 to be a loser in cup??
yeah es withw what 19 sponsers
its all long term deal and add brqanding ect and a bunch of new marketing buzzzz words today
you look at the top 4 org and hey must ceo would rather be on a winners band wagon than a full sponser on a loser
look at jr the most popular guy and even he has a split sponser and its not like amp is hurting or red bull or monster
shell and kev have a great low key deal going by that i mean its not in face like ck and jj and lowes and those stupid comercials and that is why theyw ork their stupid
its only like the old days for a few teams now with single sponser recognition
speaking of whores, smoke has the real bad "whore lure" wearing old spice he coundn't pick up a whore in a mining camp wearing old spice
f5
the rock star in the 80's lol what a life!!!!!!!! youve had so far race cars and rock bands, guys like you dont need any whore lure/cologne LOL i was a roadie to garage band to a guy who now does rod stewart tribute act lol

Aggster,
Whose the whoremonger, Texaco or Ganassi? Ganassi beds Ladies of the Night? What?
It ain't like Texaco-Chevron are hurting for money and it's not like Montoya is a poor driver. At least he's got Wrigley for half of 2009 and as a result of his minority status as a Hispanic, I'm certain there'll be some sponsor wanting to hitch on to the diversity wagon.
Of course, some sponsors might be a little hesitant about doing the NASCAR gig in light of the Mauricia thing.
Target is the main sponsor for Ganassi over at the IRL, so I'm kinda surprised the rumor's out there about them leaving Ganassi's #41. I can understand why they'd be dissatisfied with Reed's abilities, or lack thereof, but would think they'd put pressure on Ganassi to hire someone more talented instead of leaving, or maybe he is, don't know.
Yeah, I'm surprised Sadler get's the rides he gets as well as the sponsorship. Here's another guy whose appearance is always wanting.

frances, k2
I'm proud of Tony for giving back the #4
yeah i thought it was pretty classssy of smoke to do what he did, fans didnt need another 8 88 fiascal going on again for months
f5 when do they go to the dirt 4s numbers with letters in the 2025 season and on the hybrid prius's
j2
Texaco - Hav is leaving Ganassi's #42
struggles are with sponsers who get in bed with whores and well you know what you get right??
ceo are not stupid anymore in cup except maybe crown royal and jaymac lol
why spend 25 million on some loser when for 12.5 u can on a real team and org like the you can at the top 4 teams
texaco should if they had any brains get on the 28 car and create a shit load of media buzz but who knows it might not be in their marketing plans
j2 there are at least 50 co that could benefit from a cup car program over 3-5-10 years and if not full time then 1/2 season or what ever, done right its still a great deal in advertising
i still cant figure out how that 19 has what 5-8 fffortune 500 co and the 28 cant get one?? iam like WTF does es do in those corporate tents?? date the ceo's daughters or blow the ceo's lol

Right before his announcement of infidelity, former Democrat Senator of the State of North Carolina, also the former Democrat VP choice of Senator John Kerry, and also the former VP hopeful of Democrat Presidential hopeful Barack Hussein Obama, paid 50,000 to fly his current wife's future replacement, Ms. Hunter and his lovechild, to the island of St. Croix in order to evade public as well as media scrutiny.
After the announcement, Ms. Hunter returned to the Santa Barbara villa in Californication whose rent is being paid by John on August 17. Guards are posted around the villa in order to safeguard John's new squeeze.

Texaco - Hav is leaving Ganassi's #42 as well as NASCAR after this year which means Montoya will have sponsorship with Wrigley for only half the season until another replacement is found. Texaco has been a CUP sponsor for a long time.
It's also rumored Target will drop sponsorship of the #41 team at Ganassi after 2008. #40 Ganassi driver Dario lost his sponsorship this year and things don't look to promising for 2009.
The sponsorship struggles continue.

You made my point about the number- I also have a JeffB - tshirt with that number on it- tatterd and holes but anyway
BESIDES I wasn't talking about JeffB there- I follow and cheer for JeffB- But he made comments to a reporter this past weekend that didn't seem like him and he seemed down and even the reporter commented on it on nnow show- so it worried me about his frame of mind going into the chase------Aggie was nice enough to point out a few long stretches with not so great results can wear on ya- that was all about JeffB- love the man- have the highest regard for him-
The numbers- well--- a few people on here seem to bring up about Dale JRs wanting of the #8 EVERY TIME a driver moves to a new team and gets a new number- and I don't get it- let it go I say- he had the right to AT least ask for it- seeing as though His Dad BOUGHT it for him and your post proves - the 8 wasn't DEI's in the busch league at least until late- so the only history was that Dale SR got it for his son Dale JR because he wanted HIM to have it for the legacy of the 3- Ralph Dale Earnhardts- and than Jr used it for his company with Truex in the Busch league -
I'm proud of Tony for giving back the #4 and going with the #39 for Ryan-I cheer for Tony just as much as JeffB- sorry I like a few of them- Ryan has to grow on me, my niece likes him- so I'll try better now.

I was at the P word in early November to watch my silly-azz nephew drive a race car and almost froze to death, Graceann. Dega should be a few degrees warmer. If not I can ship you some ice melt for your campsite. We have plenty on hand out in the garage.

K2, you are one dumb motherfucker. No other blog, blogger, or person on a blog sent me pictures. Period.
And, no, contrary to your belief, I don't believe that I am always right, but I hold to my opinion, like everyone else on here. I'm just like everyone else on here.
What you don't get is that I think you're full of shit touting yourself as an insider. Your claims to know otherwise have been called into question not just by me, but by other posters on here, as well.
Don't be so full of yourself; I knew what juice you were talking about. Pretty lame attempt on your behalf, assuming that just because I happen to be an elite-level powerlifter that I'm on "juice," as some call it.
Just give me a time and a place and we can exchange "Fuck you's" and be done with it.

Jeff Burton drove the #8 car in the Busch series for two or three year, maybe '92 and '93. Before that the #12 and for a few races the #99.
When Jeff went to Cup in '94 he drove the #8. He also drove it in 1995 I've got diecasts of some of these cars. : )
Jeff started driving the #99 in Cup in 1996 when he started driving for Roush. That was "his" number from then, through most of 2004.
Jeff says his favorite number is 12. That was his dad's number and Jeff drove the #12 when he was driving late models. But, he says that number belongs to someone else, and he's never asked for it.
So, now he's in the #31 after driving the #30 part of 2004. There's a couple of numbers, in the Busch series, but I'll stop now. : )
Posted by: Jo Ann | Aug 19, 2008 11:07:24 PM
Wow, K2, I really got your Depends in a bunch. Blah, blah, blah. And, no, I didn't hit my head with a juice bottle. That was funny! I don't know what "net star" you're talking about, either. No one sent me any "pretty pictures" that you keep mentioning.
Okay, I'll let it go and just sit back and be humored by those who wait with baited breath for your "inside the garage" news. Otherwise, I won't mention Your Highness in my posts. By now everybody knows we don't like each other anyway.
That being said, I am interested to see what penalties are handed down to the Gibbs teams. I won't hide my disdain for Toyota, so any team penalized in the Toyota camp is a good thing. Hey, at least I'm honest there. Usually Jack Roush makes me cringe when he opens his mouth, but at least he's pro-American auto maker, and I'll take his side in any argument vs. Toyota.
Also, kudos for Tony Stewart giving back the #4. If not for Junior, Stewart would be my fav. driver; say what you will about him, but that's a hell of a gesture to give them back that number.

Aggie -
thanks for addressing the JeffB- but I'm still worried my guy is losing hope- not like him- long season or not-
Oh, how cool, Ken Shraeder gets a shot at the Hall of Fame 96 at Bristol- hope he gets in.
Aggie - Gretchen -
Numbers- can't you just let it go- Yes, Jr tried for the #8, so he wanted to take the number HIS DAD- bought for him- that HIS DAD CHOOSE for him- family number or not - HIS DAD HAND picked that number for him- it wasn't in the stable until SR plotted to get it for JR- so sue him for wanting to take a piece of his family- HIS DAD with him- right or wrong - he had a right to ask, and he is as much about and knows about nascar history as you will met in the garage.

J2 - I agree if Subway wants to promote healthy eating, Carl is the best choice. But leaving Tony may have something to do with Burger King as a possible sponsor of the #39 car, not just his potbelly.
Gretchen - I think Edwards lost 100 points.
Graceann - You may need a snow plow to get from Ky. to Dega next year. :)
K2 - I don't care who owns Kentucky Speedway, I think they deserve a date. I know those 2 tracks you're talking about.
Rachel - Hopefully you know who stays put over at Turn 3 and Poole's.
F5 - You keep coming up with some good one-liners. :)

Yea, the campfires will be burning, wonder how many will be falling in at the campground? Some of them could barely walk much less stay out of the fires. I wish KY would get a race, the Nationwide is always sold out and the traffic is controlled really well up there. We are home in about 2 hours.

Its cold enough at the old date but Nov 1.. Hell the campfires will be burning like nuts across the street...
Kentucky still needs and deserves a Cup Date..... I can name 1 or 2 tracks whom need to lose a date..

Not real thrilled with changes myself either. Not sure I like the Dega race being moved almost a month later. The weather in our area changes quickly and dragging a 5th wheel thru that is not fun.

Do you think moving Atlanta out of the Chase and California into the chase has anything to do with Atlanta being a SMI track and California being an ISC track?
Posted by: bobbyfan | Aug 19, 2008 3:45:33 PM
Looks like SUBWAY might dump Tony S when the contract expires and replace him with Flipper.
Has something to do with appearance. Flipper is the fittest guy in the sport and Tony S at times looks like he swallowed one of his CUP cars.
SUBWAY apparently feels he doesn't align with their emphasis on being health conscious.
Posted by: Jon2 | Aug 19, 2008 3:38:06 PM
Stewart's move was very classy I agree. What with all the prima dona drama concerning "numbers" we've all had to endure for the past couple years huh?
What would the devine equine #99's point total be without the penalty they got earlier? I can't remember how many they got docked.
Posted by: Gretchen | Aug 19, 2008 3:14:26 PM
Well Smoke is a good guy on the 4 with MM.. Class move. Besides people showing up for jobs Smoke is "reaching out" in the garage as well..
On AMS, love Atlanta, good track. Hate they will lose a Chase race, but as someone above said least its not FONTANA..Darlington deserves the damn thing..
IMO the best tracks- RIR, AMS, Darlington, Martinsville, Dover, Bristol and Charlotte.
Neither track listed screws the fans and keeps the facilties up..
I have to say Iowa is a damn nice track.. Glad to see no Mexico.. Canada is fine and really a easy trip, plus the extra week off is quite nice...
Posted by: Kurt2 | Aug 19, 2008 3:11:02 PM
I'm with you, Rachel. The Southern 500 at Darlington belongs on Labor Day weekend.
Very classy move by Tony Stewart, Diane. He's all gruff and grouchy on the outside but he has a soft spot for tradition among other things on the inside.
I hate to see Atlanta lose a Chase date to California. The Cali races are always snoozers and the Atlanta races almost never are. Oh well. Unfortunately we don't write the rules.
Posted by: Barb G | Aug 19, 2008 2:42:52 PM
I do like AMS being in the chase but I guess I'm looking at it a little different thinking that it will be easier for me to be off work on Labor Day weekend to go. LOL I do wish Darlington still had the Labor Day race where it really belongs too.
Posted by: Rachel | Aug 19, 2008 1:39:58 PM
I guess it gets the Labor Day race "closer" to where it belongs----Darlington.
I like AMS in the chase as it is the fastest track on the circuit in the "resticter plate" era.
But, alas, we will adapt to more changes whether we like it or not.
