At least the other Series have exciting points battles
Once again, Johnson had the perfect car, no matter what Edwards did, he just couldn't move up through the field enough. While mathematically, Edwards still has a shot, it's Johnsons title again. I swear that is one team that didn't have any bad luck at all this season and it certainly paid off for him.
That was some wreck with Gilliland's car ending up on top of Speed's car, glad no one was hurt there. Unfortunately, the race wasn't exciting, once again with one car basically dominating the race. Kurt Busch gave it go on the green white checkered, but just couldn't get him.
I guess we can hope for an exciting race next week. Without the championship being on the line anymore, maybe we can see an exciting race with a different winner.
Good job for Kurt Busch and Jamie McMurray being up there in the end.
Oh and ABC's choice to move the race to ESPN2 for the finish was bull, if it had been football, basketball or baseball, they wouldn't have been relagated to another channel, especially for AFV!
Your thoughts?

Jon2, there is no evidence that NASCAR having BGN teams qualify on the morning they race has saved one dime for them. Nor is there evidence a sorter seasn would save money, especially when more races always means more revenue.
There is only one answer - a spending cap on raceteams - $30 million for a three-car team per season.
Posted by: Mike Daly | Nov 16, 2008 10:42:42 PM
Diane - that team ower you're quoting is feeding you a line; if testing limits actually saved any money no team's budget would have increased in the first years testing was limited; instead budgets increased fivefold durng the 1990s and multicar teams bankrupted single-car teams. So the saving of $1 million you quot is fiction - that team owner won't save one dime because test limits didn't save ANY team owner a single dime; his budget won't go from, say, $20 million or whatever to $19 million.
Kurt2, test bans never work - test limits didn't work when they started in 1990; all they dd was rescue multicar teams, who were still being left behind by the single-car outfits. It isn't loopholes, it's a fundamentally unsound policy.

DJ, I'd like to think that God is the one who supplies Jimmie's luck. And I think my family will supply enough cheers for Jimmie today to make the rest of Jimmie's many fans sound pretty loud. Here's looking forward to next year and 4 in a row!

Well Larry you were not raised far at all from me.Not sure the relevance of the literate posts thing.Good for you and your education.I too am educated.Thing is I could give a rats ass about what Letterman or Tyra Banks...Tyra Banks??? thinks.....
Well alot of drivers should be classified as "humanitarians" then. They all do great things.Hell, they should with all the $$$ they make. That elegant thing is funny Larry.
Larry,I didn't say he was not a "good" person at all.I just don't like the way he races, the way he gets lucky from time to time(insert Dega), and the fact that he is in good equipment.Plus he keeps on stinking up the joint.Good for him and his team...don't have to pull for him.

I sure am a southerner. I grew up not too far from Darlington, SC as a matter of fact. My dad was a shade tree mechanic and a dirt track man. I grew up in the middle of stock car racing. I'm 60, btw. Oh, and my parents were very happy when I decided to get an education. Hence the literate posts. If you don't believe me about JJ being a humanitarian, you need to look this stuff up. The Jimmie Johnson Foundation helps kids everywhere and he puts a lot of his own money into it. He has lots of other charities as well. Habitat for Humanity is just one more. Is he elegant? Yes, he is. That isn't my observation. It is the observation of others like David Letterman and Tyra Banks. Jimmie is in demand on talk shows. And that demand brings notoriety to NASCAR.
Posted by: Larry | Nov 15, 2008 4:12:56 PM
Tough Larry.....sorry you are tired of the JJ hating. It is your opinion and I'll respect that...but coming from your roots you'd think you'd feel different. Are you sure you are from the South.Man,I went back up and read your post again and I about threw up.Superlative humanitarian?Elegant?Good on TV?International?
Somewhere J2 is singing the crying game........

JJ's teammates are going to be like a cocoon around Jimmie on Sunday protecting against all who might try to do him harm. Big Daddy, Junior, and Casey's got JJ's back on Sunday. That requirement is coming straight from the top."
I see the 3 Kneepadqueerters Unite already..
Pretty sad that in your estimation J2 that the 88, 5 and 24 will be "disallowed" from running a race to win. Since "Felon" runs the show. Wouldnt it be ironic as hell if the 5 "accidentally" placed the 48 in the wall.:))))))
"Costs - I've heard each test can cost a team in excess of 100grand. Some orgs w/multi teams spend millions a year on tests.

See I can agree with you 100% on somethings J2, but all this does is rearrange the "offseason" prior to Jan 1, 09
So when he hoist the trophy Sunday please make sure you 3 have Bette Midler " Wind beneath my Wings" cued up and all 3 dance.
Posted by: Kurt2 | Nov 14, 2008 4:19:35 PM
Larry, good post and you have a right to
your opinion as well as anyone. I like J.J.
even though he's not my favorite driver. A
driver doesn't have to be rough and ready to
fight to be a race car driver. Oh! and you
don't have to be a REAL race fan to like
Jimmie Johnson. Since my driver is not #1
in the chase, I'll be pulling for J.J. 100%
Sunday.

This entire Chase is sorta anticlimatic. At the drop of the flag on the first lap of the Chase you just knew it was going to be Jimmie's to lose.
I smell fourpeat.

All you punk JJ haters been crying in your soup all week? How funny. Anybody take bets on a Roush car wrecking the 48?
Posted by: Bob Beeman | Nov 14, 2008 9:35:17 AM
At least his hiring of that Hollywood management team gave somebody a stiffy, because it damn sure ahs done NOTHING for him within the NASCAR Nation/
Posted by: Gretchen | Nov 14, 2008 8:57:56 AM
Wow Larry, what a complete load of crap, very well articulated, but still crap. NASCAR doesn't need boring non-personality types as its spokesman, we need real men that show their love for the sport they grew up with and not a "oh I think I want to be a race car driver" kind of wussy like Jimmie Johnson.
Jimmie Johnson jumps out of the car with the "Of course I won" look on his face and then wonders why real race fans can't stand him.
Posted by: Jon | Nov 14, 2008 8:39:42 AM
Gosh, you would probably be about my dad's age. He sure doesn't get that excited about a male driver nor does he describe a male in that manner. Nothing wrong in that mind you, just saying your excitement is loud. Good for you. Glad your back in NASCAR and Jimmie Johnson excites you! Enjoy your races!
Posted by: Graceann | Nov 13, 2008 11:05:24 PM
I get so tired of hearing these old school fans moan and groan when Jimmie Johnson wins. Jimmie Johnson is a thinking driver. He also plays the odds. And he wins. He's a great driver. You can say otherwise all day long, but you'd be lying to yourself. I grew up in the rural south. My dad was a dirt track fanatic and a shde tree mechanic. And a diehard NASCAR fan. I grew up with stockcar racing. I gre up listening to the races playing out on the radio at a time when there was no automobile racing on TV. I remember the duels on the track and the excitement. Going back into the early 60s. And I kind of lost interest in stockcar racing until just recently. Until I saw Jimmie Johnson interviewed back in 2003. He was a very junior team mate of Jeff Gordon's. But somehow something about Jimmie made me a fan again. Now, it's afamiliar story, I think. Jimmie is a thinker. He's no redneck. He can hold his own on national TV. On the Tonight Show or on Letterman, and comes across as elegant and smart, and funny. He is what NASCAR has needed for a very long time. Class. NASCAR is no longer the regional redneck sport it once was. It is becoming an international interest event. We need men like Jimmie to represent us. Besides that, whay on earth do people not like Jimmie? He is a great man, a great humanitarian, a superlative driver. Certainly superior to anyone Like the leaping whacko redneck Carl Edwards or jeez, I could go one and on. Jimmie Johnson is the greatest! Go Jimmie! Go #48. Make it 4 in a row. Make em eat crow even more than these jealous resentul carrion birds arleady are. GO LOWE'S #48!

Daly
What do they let the door open every now and then for you to attempt to report something?
Its verbage Daly..
RCR, JGR would in fact save 1.2 plus per year IF(keyword) testing was not conducted..Diane is dead on..
Daly, bullcrap. STOP TESTING< GET A REAL RULEBOOK so there are NO loopholes which HMS used with the inception of the COT. SHUT THE DOOR. STOP all the damn time in Daytona..
Its not rocket science, but to Brian and you it is...
Posted by: Kurt2 | Nov 13, 2008 10:35:56 PM
A team owner recently said he would save approx. $1 million if they didn't test.
Posted by: Diane | Nov 13, 2008 9:20:47 PM
we've seen for the last twenty years that limiting testing saves not one dime for raceteams.
Posted by: Mike Daly
why not ??
Posted by: exile on main street | Nov 13, 2008 8:48:17 PM
Kurt2, before you lecture about "verbiage" and me not being worth it, open your mind to some objectivity and fact of which you've never shown either.
Dottie, with plunging gas prices will come savings of over $200 billion per year.
Jon2, Brian France says he's looking at controlling costs, but all he's looked at is testing - we've seen for the last twenty years that limiting testing saves not one dime for raceteams. He needs to get serious about costs, all right - he needs to look at spending caps.
Posted by: Mike Daly | Nov 13, 2008 7:01:39 PM
Chrysler's probably hoping other teams will consider leaving in light of the fact unless another Iacocca appears in a very short while their future is kaput.
If GM or the other two go into bankruptcy, which many financial analysts are predicting and feel would be the right move, all contracts such as marketing and employee/union are void. Creditors of the bankrupt firm have much to say in a firms reorganization and truth be told throwing money at racing around a track won't be high on their list of necessary expenditures for the formerly Big Three.
If the govt steps in and throws 25bill at 'em they just might demand a seat on the Boards and again, all expenditures are up for review.
Quite frankly, lotta things going to shake out for NASCAR in 2009 and in all likelyhood there's going to be less CUP competitors. The NASCAR of 2009 won't look like the NASCAR of 2008.
Brian and the gang at NASCAR needs to be looking at lowering costs for the teams big time and none too soon. Qualify on the day you race - Shorten the season, you'll get sued by some of the tracks who'll lose dates, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do to survive - and on and on.

Sounds like Dodge was almost glad to be rid of Ganassi. Here's a quote from Jayski:
"More on Earnhardt-Ganassi Merger: A key player in the merger was Dodge Motorsports, which gave its blessing to team owner Chip Ganassi to pursue the partnership with a Chevy organization."
Posted by: Diane | Nov 13, 2008 3:51:47 PM
I don't see how it could be anything but Chevy, DEI and RCR have a pretty sweet engine building deal together and I don't see DEI tossing that to go to Dodge, Ganasty doesn't have that much pull. :)

DJ, gas prices are dropping but with people
losing jobs, I don't know how they can even
afford gas at these prices and pay their
bills. It's really sad.
Graceann, it looks like Kentucky has the
best gas prices overall. Hope your hubby
gets to go back to work soon. It sure isn't
looking good at the "Big Three."
Diane, good video of Tony's first Cup win.
I agree he's changed a lot in 9 years but
just look at what he's accomplished, he's
"THE MAN". I'm always watching video's on
youtube of Tony. I just watched one with
Tony and Dale Jr. with "Three Doors Down".
Gretchen, from everything I've heard about
DEI/Ganassi - it will be G.M. (CHEVY)

Some of y'all need to be lobbying your main man George W. Bush to pardon those border patrol agents and let them out before he jets. THAT is just a travesty. And very UNamerican. WTF?
LOL!! Saw Palin on one of her 44 interviews she's given this week, questioning how a Republican administration can possibly run up the national debt the way the Bush Administration has. Fiscal conservativeness at its all time finest right there baby....
jon2. Never Mind.
kari, nice pics you sent. Truex looked tired. Now he's gonna be real damn tired dealing with JPM and Dick Ganassi. GOD PLEAAAASE DON'T LET DEI GO TO DAMN DODGES!!!

Hey Guys, Gas here was 1.85 filled up the Explorer for 35 bucks that hasn't happened in a long time. Got the news last night Hubby will resume work hopefully Feb. 1st. He has been off since last week of Oct. Things really look bad for the Auto Industry. We are just keeping things on the lean side in case. So you know I haven't been sleeping much lately. One thing I did find out though, worry does make you age quicker! ha

Don't make your mortgage payment for three months and you'll qualify for help in the gov't bailout program - they might reduce your principal and in some cases even make some of your payments, in addition, you might get a reprieve to make any payments for up to a year.
Just heard that from a person who was contacted by her bank, one of the biggies, and instructed to do just that. Amazing.
Those of us, like Mrs. Jon2 and me, who sacrifice to meet our mortgage obligations which sometimes requires us to sometimes have to eat pbj sandies, get screwed, while those who're living above their means are rewarded for being irresponsible.
Talk about the disincentives to conduct your financial affairs in an adultlike fashion.

Yep, Coleman is the Goody's Headache Award winner. Too bad he left the NNS ride. I think he still needs some seasoning before going to Cup. But the kid's got talent.

Jon...thanks to you as well for your service.
Yeah,Dottie...gas is going down fast(2.14 here in the Rock) and yet people are loosing jobs left and right.I don't know how people with say 3 kids and bills make it.Sad........
I mentioned a while back about how Coleman was going to get the screws from HOF.It was like as soon as they said he would be in 7-10 races in the 96,the great Logano was thrust into that car only to give way to KS.He left a decent Busch team in the 27 only to be told sorry bro.May not be a terrible thing as that car sucks, but the dude left getting paid in the 27,to nada. Now he is officially my Goody's Headache Award winner.............

Kari,
Thank you and I was an Electricians Mate (EM) while in the Navy. It is kind of a long story how we ended up in Oklahoma.
I joined the Navy right out of high school and married by high school sweetheart (still married to her) and I moved her out to Southern Cali for 7 years. She actually grew up in Oklahoma City and moved to Michigan where we met. So when it was time to leave Cali we settled on Oklahoma City as are permanent home.
Thank you for your service to our great country.

In the merger of DEI and Ganassi there will
be more than 100 jobs lost. Many of those
affected at DEI were told of their status
during a meeting Wednesday. I really feel
for these people who are losing their jobs
and with families to support. Where can
these people go to find jobs with the
economy like it is. It seems the economy is
getting worse instead of better.
DEI should put their rookie driver Regan
Smith in the #41 car and give him a chance.
Reed Sorenson, who currently drives for
Ganassi is moving to GEM next season.
Posted by: Dottie | Nov 13, 2008 12:22:35 AM
Jon,
Happy belated Veterans Day to you. What did you do in the Navy and how did you end up in OK afterwards?? If you're originally from Michigan (I think I remember that?) do you root for Michigan football or just OU? When we lived in Syracuse, there was a high school guy who went off to Michigan and did pretty well--Mike Hart--so I followed the program while he was there. Anyhoo, I worked on the 11th, even though our office was closed. Cancer kills plenty of veterans every year so I honored them by doing my job.
--From Kari, USA 1995-1999 <--real American in case anyone's wondering
Hey peeps, I'm back from Phoenix...and I certainly won't be "changing my opinion or zipping it." Whatever.
For the first time ever, I actually saw Junior in person, making his way to pit road. He is shorter than he appears on TV. Carl acknowledged every single fan who said something to him when I saw him in the garage area on both Saturday and Sunday--I'm having to rethink my judgement about his phoniness. I got my picture taken with Clint while wearing my Kansas Jayhawks shirt. I still don't like him but I'm refraining from saying anything bad about him for one week. (Shhhh, K2!) Sterling and the Biff went out of their way to sign for fans who were on the other side of the all-access fence in the garage area. Scott Riggs and a couple other guys walked thru to driver intros all by themselves, with no fans wanting anything from them. That was kind of sad. Kyle Busch was signing autographs for people right up until they started the national anthem. I could probably write more but I don't want to bore anyone. ;)
I'm darn sick of flying to races to see Jimmie Johnson win. I've lost count of how many times THAT has happened to me. All in all, though, we had a great time. Phoenix is a good venue, although I agree with DJ that it probably doesn't need two races.

If I understand the rules correctly,if JPM
& the 41 change to Chevy-JPM is out of the Shootout(Jr.is the last Chevy) and Robby Gordon moves up to the last Dodge-provided he still drives a Dodge next year.

Di...that be a green fly on the wall!
SF,I can see it being like 2004,with lower-tier teams field filling. It is sad what is going on.I just think Nascar reached it's peak and blew it in when they up the # of races to 36.Grow,grow,grow.....whatever.The tide headed south when they got out of the South. No offense Cali fans, but your races suck.2 races in Michigan,2 races in Pocono,2 races in New Hampshire,2 races in Phoniex?????Too much and too many empty seats and too many fans tuning out.....
I agree AJ needs a ride.Deserves it...but other than him getting the biggest screws is the 01.He got the years biggest BS by Nascar award at Dega.He has had a decent first year and didn't ruffle any feathers.I hope he gets considered for at least a quality BUSCH ride........

It's certainly a shame to see what's happening to these Cup teams. There were only 43 full-time teams this year. The 78's cutting back to a limited schedule. JTG-Daugherty was going to add a new full-time team to the sport but they merged with the MWR #00. And now the 15 and 01 are gone with the DEI-Ganassi merger. I hate seeing all these teams dropping out and seeing so many people lose their jobs.
It should be interesting to see what comes of a couple potential fallouts of this latest merger though:
- Will NASCAR be consistent and not let DEI-Ganassi sell off their owner's points on the 01 and 15 like they didn't let Ginn-DEI sell off the #13 car's points last year after their merger? If that's the case that's a huge break for Red Bull #84/82 and either Penske or Gillett (whoever ends up 37th in points after Homestead). There wouldn't appear to be a need for the Vickers-Speed swap at Homestead now.
- What in the world happens to the awful and completely ridiculous Budweiser Shootout eligibilty list for '09? If the 42 switches to Chevy do they drop out of the Shootout, and if the 1 and 8 move to Dodge will they suddenly be in?
- Who drives the 41 (or 01 or 15, whatever number the 4th DEI-Ganassi car has next year)? If they were smart they would put a contract in front of A.J. Allmendinger IMMEDIATELY, in my opinion.
Lots of questions to be answered between now and Daytona that's for sure. I just hope it doesn't get to the point where 4 Derrike Cope owned start-and-park cars are running in the Cup Series every week in '09.

Deal not final yet but Teresa Earnhardt and
Chip Ganassi will combine their slumping
NASCAR teams next season. It will be called
Earnhardt Ganassi Racing. The drivers are
Martin Truex, Jr., Aric Almirola, Juan Pablo
Montoya and a driver yet to be named. They
have a sponsor for the 4th. car but a driver
has not been named. Details regarding a
manufacturer switch are in the works but is
expected to be General Motors. No announce-
ment has been made by Teresa nor Ganassi as
of yet.

DJ,
Where did you ever get the idea that Obama was going to do anything for you? He stated over and over again that he was going to steal from the rich and give it to the middle class, my friend you aren't the middle class. His goal was to pander to a large block of voters and he did and he won the election. He will not be able to accomplish the tax reductions until the economy has recovered and the deficit reigned in.
