Gordon undergoes procedure for back problems
We've heard for a while now about Jeff Gordon's re-occurring back pain, some say it's an excuse for his performance last, but back pain is no laughing matter and I can see how it can easily affect a drivers performance. Yes, I guess you could say I'm defending him in this case, you can take the shocked look of your faces now.
Gordon underwent a procedure on Monday to see if it can alleviate some of the pain, obviously the physical therapy and other things they were doing didn't help much. Gordon wanted this done mainly because the 600 is such a grueling race for a driver, even in perfect condition.
So far there has been no updates as to if the procedure helped or not, but after reading up a little on this procedure, it seems like it's only a temporary fix. If it helps, I imagine they would keep doing the procedure whenever it bothers him again, but from what I read, if this doesn't work, surgery is the next option.
Back pain or not, he'll still be racing, just like any other injured driver. I remember before Mark Martin had his back surgery, he had to be helped and even lifted in and out of the car, the pain was so bad. I hope Gordon's never gets that bad, but surgery may be in his future, before or after he leaves the sport.
Even though I'm not a Gordon fan, I wish him well and hope this helps his back. As for the race this weekend, I'm looking forward to it and am hoping that there is no rain!

the king don't like them girls in the pits or the race cause their job is to pack the lunch and the heat in their purse.
however his Man at indy finished 1 spot ahead of that moving chicane milka duno and 2 spots behind sarah fisher and 16 places behind Danica Patrick.
it's a loser idea to bring in a girl when the typical nascar fan hates black people, them mexicans, and uppity women.
you would think brian wouldda learned his lesson with the pasty faced yuppie white folk and them soccer moms.
well jesus h christ, lower the price to 7 bucks give a carton of cigs and a six pack away with the ticket and the stands would be freakin packed again.
wtf's next... a transgender racer ??

hey what was smoke blasting away at ruitiiman about??
well aggie...
i guess tony was asking the 00 guy to freakin move over when the fast guys stack up behind him. later he said him and smoke are pals so it wasn't a big deal
however who knows wtf the crew worker was stickin his my big head is shaved i'm a bad ass dude nose into a driver's talk.
that would be like a couple of nba players stopping for a talk and having the equipment assistant run out on the floor and say, "oh look here labron we gonna kick you ass go away puke."
of course at mwr everything is big drama.
surprised macey didn't run out and kick tony's shin.

Congrats to David Reutimann and team on
their first 600 win at LMS.
A "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to Joey Logano
Good finishes for R.G., B.V., K.K., and J.L.
Glad to see Ryan Newman ended up in second.
Had it gone green, he might have ended up
winning it.
I was looking forward to the "Coca-Cola 600"
but it sure was a disappointing two days. I
felt bad for all of those fans coping with
the rainy weather and very little racing.

Dang,
Can we get over the fact Yota is in the sport, its not going away, not other maf. is coming in.. I frankly dont care what those say, Chevy is my car but they arent leaving..
I cant say at 24 years old with 53 wins Yota sucks. I can say that the others dropped the damn ball.Hate him or not he is in fact a winner.
Danica in NASCAR, that would be hufe FUBAR for Danica and NASCAR currently, hence the big meeting tommorrow. THe sport is suffering, she will get shunned(and no ladies, I dont agree with it but she will). The King is still in the mindset women shouldnt race..
Loved JJ's advice this week, typical JJ, go trim the Unibrow and get back with us.
Still I say to prove the JJ and 88 point ,switch CK and Eury Jr.. Watch both teams fail.
JJ is nothing without CK and JR cant win with a car CK sets up...
The sport has gone to hell real quick and isnt fun anymore.(THANKS BRIAN)...
Hope this changes with the meeting tommorrow as its a all day one with about 10 topics being covered...
F5, congrats to your Reuit:)), Vickers had a damn good day as well.. You know what I mean..
Hats off to Reuit, and those guys, at least as I saw he apprecaited it.
BS on NASCAR as usual waiting today to call the race when the radar showed nothing but downpours at the end.. Not like its not right outside the Nascar hauler..
Good day:
Shout out to the 9 ladies:)KK
99- good day
18- that was your race if it went green
14- 2nd, if it had went green.
2- way to roll , you and Pat rocked
RG- Good call , as he made it to stay out.
? marks
the 48
the 24
the 5
the 31, 29 and RCR, stop playing with engine packages..
The 88- slam away as you must, but his head is so elsewhere. His CC and crew can do all they can but he is becoming the laughing stock of the garage.
When the "ones "figure shit out, its not the car, the crew or others.. Its not gelling, and its no ones fault but whom is sitting in the car..
Lake Speed was higher than you all day, NUFF SAID. Stop bitching, get in the game or become, oh nevermind..
Makes MW look good these day. (sorry F5).
Jermey, take your ".... self " on and sue NASCAR, make yourself look like a bigger idiot than you look already in the garage.
No wonder most laugh at you. Please bring the lawsuit, so it can become Public record of what you DID do and it wasnt Clartin D...

Toyota has already stepped up and asked the Japanese government for $2 billion
Japan's biggest carmaker Toyota has forecast its first annual loss in 71 years due to plummeting sales and a surge in the value of the yen.
The trend toward these temporary workers drew alarm in Japan when a disgruntled haken (temp) employee at a Toyota affiliate went on stabbing spree in June in a crowded Tokyo shopping district, killing seven and injuring 10.
A 37 percent slump in December sales in Toyota's biggest market was its sharpest fall in more than a quarter of a century and worse than declines at struggling U.S. rivals General Motors and Ford Motor.
temp workers in japan, record losses, a government bailout...
maybe you shouldda bought a toyota saab boy.

I think the guys??? trying to run NASCAR
AKA The Great "AMERICAN" Sport? Should stop nickel and diming the Drivers, And teams Fine the Heck out of theselves, For selling out to the Japs!!! It wont be too long before Toyota, Subaru, And Yugo's are racing, here
With yahamma's and yokomoto's driving them instead of Petty's and Allisons!!! Actually, I think whoever is responsible for toyota getting in, Should be tried for Treason!!!

Rain, rain go away.
We all want to see a race today.
Go "Smoke" !!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Dawn | May 25, 2009 11:03:38 AM
Put some rain tires and windshield wipers on these Cup cars like they do at Le Mans, F1, Rolex races, and most of the road course races, and let 'em race. If the Europeans and most of the mates in Australia and South America and our neighbors up in the great North Woods can race in the rain, so should our good old USA boys. Sometimes we act like a bunch of sissies.
Looks like the race may not run today.
Other,
This is the first loss Toyota's had since/ or ever had in it's auto division. And the Japanese gov't doesn't subsidize it's countries auto mfgrs by providing monetary relief like we've done recently. In fact, the Japanese govt doesn't offer the corporate tax breaks (a form of subsidization) as does the USA to it's registered corporations. And don't bring up the valuation of the yen, not in play here because the majority of Toyota and Honda and Hyundai vehicles sold here are produced right here in the USA. Toyota is now building a Prius mfging plant in the States to meet demand for the future.

"And Toyota WHO built THEIR motors to Nascar AKA France Family Mafia...get penalized for playing by the rules"
toyoto sucks and nobody cares about some obscure ruling from last year.
they are losing as much or more than chrysler and gm combined. their government pays for their lost money 110% and nobody cries at all.
mainly because japan knows american consumers will continue to beg to send their money overseas.

Aggster,
Carl Long is a financial genius if he can bring a high tech racing car to the track with him earning only 30K a year.....Oops I forgot, he seldom if ever qualifies, and if he does he goes a couple laps, to the garage, and let's go home ma.
Carl's probably a great guy, gotta admire his perserverance, but he don't belong in this sport. Never be a factor. Those days where the crew chief changed tires along with everybody else and the wives sent their men to the track with lunches in brown bags and the crews shared a motel room are long gone.
He's appealing the thing, maybe NASCAR will feel sorry for Carl. I know Jere's hired a big time lawyer whose gonna take on the establishment.
Watched part of the 500 today. Never saw so many empty seats at this race in the many years I've watched it on the telly. Dani came in third. Last year of her contract and she's talking NASCAR in order to get a better conty at Andretti motor sports. Wish she'd come over to NASCAR. Man she's a fireball. Drama would be going on all the time with that little spit fire.

... I read that Carl Long and his wife combined have a yearly income of $30K... Is that above the poverty level?
j2 do the math for a guy making 30k and fined 200k what is that like for a guy like jr his fine would have about to be what 1/2 a billion lol
even many who made 25 mil was fined what only 1/3 or 7 million is lost wages so ole carls fine should be what 10k
this is the stupidest fine i have ever heard of its almost comical like a WWE fine/suspension

$30K... Is that above the poverty level
that whole story is wrong no matter how you look at it.
you would think nascar would try to do the right thing especially with this economy and the way fans hate the cot pos etc.
every week that goes by they seem to be more detached from and show no regard for the "little" people who fill the stands.
a couple of years ago real fans would say... hey wtf's nascar gonna do when all the new yuppie snobs loose interest sittin close to common people for 4 or 5 hours a day. who's gonna buy the over priced tickets for the white bread racing then ??
well i guess that day is here.

Gretchen, you're right. Rick needs to step
in and do something fast for the 88 team.
I have been reading a lot about Carl Long
and I think NASCAR went a little over-board
with their penalty. That's a lot of money
and he's barely surviving as it is. I feel
bad for him. Yep, I know if you cheat and
get caught, you pay the price but that
penalty seems a little to much to me.

Hell I just finished a bottle of Shiraz and it was pretty darn good. Not my usual Friday nite drink, but then this was an unusual nite. I like different brews,JD and beer are the main drink but I like a taste of wine also. I don;t want this to put me in the same league with J2. Not everybody that drinks wine is an a**hole. Keep the peace.............

There you go again DJ and I'm including your sidekick K2. Dawn and I are having civil discourse, modest disagreeing going on, but still we're nicely blogging and in your typical jealous fashion gotta stick your nose in and try to piss on my parade.
Magic wins tonight.
Gotta give K2's former Dukie now Magic JJ Reddick credit for making the Celts Ray Allen work the hardest he's had to for a long time to get a good shot. I believe JJ was instrumental in the Magic wins over the Celts. Unless I'm wrong, he's the only recent Tobacco Road player still in the mix.
Anyone but Kobe and that LaLa crowd.
Posted by: Jon2 | May 22, 2009 5:18:03 PM
Agg.....we must get together over a cold cerveza and re-hash all the catogories of the classics.Elly Mae was hot,but all time hottie was them Daisy Dukes!!
Canes look worn out.Nuggets evened the score as Kobe had no support other than Ariza.
Dawn....don't waste your time on J2 as far as sympathy for the lower tier teams. He is a stickler for the rules and laws unless it is HMS related.J2,seriously....Nascar has proven that they will use the lower-tier teams as examples.Look each week at the fines, especially in the Busch series. Each week it's the 0 car or the 01 or 24 or 52 with BS fines.Yes,they have to push the limits to even come close just to make the field and compete. But if these cats didn't show up,there would be 30-35 car fields. It's like nascar bites the hand that feeds 'em.That series is struggling anyway and if it wasn't for the overly funded Cup do drop ins there might be 20-25 cars.
200 K is a ridiculous fine for a team like Carl's.Had he won something or placed decent, then fine him 20-25G.The dude ran 3 laps I think!Give me a break...better yet give carl a break and drop the damn fine some......
Beer is good........

Thanks Dawn. Read some at Carl's website as well.
Here's the nitty-gritty of the matter summed up by NASCAR in that article you referred.
"But when it comes to altering engines, fuel or tires, NASCAR doesn't discriminate. When it comes to NASCAR, ignorance is not an excuse.
"We've got rules in the garage area and everybody knows there are things you don't mess with," said NASCAR VP of competition Robin Pemberton. "Engines is one of 'em and (it) is a BIG violation.""
Looks like Carl's racing career might be over. Feel bad for that aspect if it happens, but the violation and the consequences rest all on his shoulders. One of the problems of an underfunded team is the inability to have all the personnel to make certain all the t's and i's are crossed and dotted.

DJ,
Illness #1: The Worm has a bad back, and Illness #2: The Worm mercilessly pummels the elderly (recall Archibald Hutchison). Never again.
Aggster,
Toyota sells more cars in the US than GM with 1,600 dealers whereas GM has close to 7,000 dealers (maybe more). Read somewhere that some of the Chrysler dealers, fortunate to sell 100 Chrys vehicles a year. Service musta been where money is. Read where the first Chrys dealer founded in the 19teens was told to close down. Just wasn't making the numbers.
Closed several in our Triad area. Rationale is less dealers will mean the healthier orgs, because of less compy, will earn more per vehicle and become more viable.
Anyone heard if some of the NASCAR car owners who owned stores got the axe?
GM gonna go bankrupt so they won't have to pay State mandated franchise closure penalties when they inform dealers to beat it. Of course other factors involved, like say, the fact GM's lost 50+ billions of dollars since 2005.
Now that we gave GM billions to keep an already insolvent company afloat, word is they're going to give the Chinese and Koreans the contracts to offshore the production of smaller cars. GM's going to shutter something like 20+ USA plants and get rid of 21,000 more employees and ship many of those jobs overseas.
