Night racing at Richmond
After a slow start to the race because of showers during the day, they got underway under caution, which was a disappointment, I've never liked it when they do that. After a caution for a spin, there was a long green flag run and it looked as if this was going to be a long race for the drivers struggling with the handling of their cars. But after that long green flag run,, it started becoming your typical short track racing under the lights, not a lot of laps between cautions, it looked like the boys turned it up a notch.
A lot of the cautions seemed to be caused by typical short track stuff, more than one car racing for the same piece of real estate, it also seemed that Hornish was involved in a lot of those incidents.
Congrats to Kyle Busch for the win on Friday and Saturday nights.

No J2, you are the one that hasn't been listening. Kevin Grubb was at his breaking point, looking for help & no one was there. Like I said before nobody takes a drink, tries a drug & decides to become a addict. For some the addition can start from a prescription that leads elsewhere. At some point when trying to drag them selves out of the gutter when they realize what they have become there has to be help & the love of a family or they will never succeed. If there is no help the feelings of desperation, disgust, regret will set in & they are lost for good. No Nascar is not responsible for Kevin Grubb, but they claim to be a family sport yet they fail to take care or help their own. Every one needs a support system, & Nascar should set the example if they are cleaning house.

Certainly Kevin made the choice (chose) that put him in the situation to get hooked on drugs. Haven't you been listening there K2 over the past several decades, that taking drugs can lead to an addiction? Haven't you been listening there K2 over the past several decades, that smoking can lead to an addiction? There aren't to many citizens that after being exposed to the media warnings and countless lectures while in high school that can say with a straight face, "Golly Gee, I didn't know that."
You sound sorta naive there K2, my man. Personal accountability figures into these decisions quite a bit, and Kevin has only himself to blame for the outcome. Not NASCAR, not society, not the Colombians, not the Mexicans, it's all about the decision Grubbs made.

Was very surprised to learn that Mayfield and 3 crew members from other teams have been suspended by NASCAR for substance abuse.

Well on a bright note prior:
Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms here.... Enjoy your day tommorrow..
Gretch, I do see where you are coming from , BUT , all due respect it is a problem in the US and no one wants to have the balls to stand up and do anything. I remember the "drug czar", Bullshit, we cant keep it out and kids will do it...
THe NFL, NBA, MLB all offer drug interdication programs.. But NASCAR? No, do they have a pension fund? No
Thats all I mean, these guys and I might be one day on getting hurt are screwed, as nothing is baselined in here to protect us.
J2, as usual you are a fucking ass. Kevin Chose to get hooked? Gimme a break with your bullshit..
No one "chooses to be a addict". So throw that all you want. I know its Grubb fault. Yes J2 initally it was. But where is the support system? Under our gov? YES ALL that Bush and Obama? Its no freaking where..
But maybe since you are the DIVINE ONE, you cant grasp families, and kids go thru things and do mess up..
We cant all be perfect as you are..
GA, thank you you stated my point and I apprecaite it..
People need help, they do but where do they find it , locally, state, or Nationally? No I dont think so.
No one in NASCAR is doing shit to rectify anything, as usual. But the main "BRAIN" is a damn drunk. but thats ok/..
You all be good going to race...
J2 you are a trip to say the least

Graceann,
You are a very smart lady and you said it best. Thanks for your insight on a very difficult problem.

Personal choice? In the beginning, yea I guess it probably could have been. Until you have been through it, or had to live with it you really don't have a clue. Nobody makes a personal choice to ruin every Holiday for their family, miss every important event in their children's life, to embarrass their children in front of friends, to use up their paycheck for their addiction & forget about their family's needs. After the personal choice it becomes a sickness that is incurable, the temptation is always there waiting for your weakest point. It's flat out hell to beat & it's hell to live with.
Posted by: Graceann | May 9, 2009 3:16:21 PM
"....no nothing is a "personal choice" it happens and a addiction chemical or drinking..." by K2.
Wrong.
Smoking, marrying, drinking, education, voting, and drug use are personal choices that one makes on the road of life. Grubbs made a personal and selfish (I'll get high no matter what, family and loved ones be damned) choice which cost him his life and G-d only knows the past and immediate hurt he has caused his family as a result of his choice to take illegal drugs. Tragic, but one shouldn't compare the Grubbs issue with the one that Nadeau and Parks face on a daily basis. All together different.
Gretchen sums it up pretty well with her comment, "Addiction is not your employer's problem, and it never will be."

Dottie: Yea, we are ok here. It didn't get to bad. Today is prom in 2 high schools & I have been bustin' my rear since 8:30 this morning & I'm not finished yet. Got a little break & decided to check in.

Everything is ok in my part of western Kentucky. We're going to have some flooding. Here, the storm that came through Thurday night was worse than the one Friday afternoon.
We're still realing from the ice storm that hit January 26th. I was without power for 13 days, but was lucky to not lose water or telephone service. My house is all electric and I heated a room with a propane gas tank, the same tank that people use for their outdoor grills. My county was the hardest it. There's still debris that hasn't been picked by disaster relief. There's hardly a tree that doesn't have scars from the storm.

I will play devil's advocate here and say that I tend to agree with jon2. Steve Park and Jerry Nadaeu and the way NASCAR f***ed them over is a WHOLE different dealio than Kevin Grubb. Kevin Grubb refused to submit to the randon drug testing THAT HE AGREED TO as part of his reinstatement AFTER he had failed a U.A. and NASCAR let him back in. By making that choice, Kevin Grubb was no longer NASCAR's problem.
Kevin was however someone's child, grandchild, cousin, brother, uncle, and friend. etc. and this is a trajedy. I feel for his family.
Addiction is a horrid thing. I have personal knowledge of it, and it's consequences. It IS a personal choice, and at some point it is NO LONGER your families' problem either. ( THEY will be the one's suffering for years because of someone's CHOICE though) It is not, and has never been, my family's problem that I choose to drink.
Addiction is not your employer's problem, and it never will be.
So, that's my humble fucking opinion on the matter.
It's still tragic, and it still leaves his poor family with a lot of "What If"
I HOPE that they at least did what they could...intervention, etc. But at a point with an addict, you have to wash yourself of them. They have to make the descision to stop on their owm.

MY Night is NOW GOOD...Saw Puffs wad his primary up, and I hear Jr must have some sand in his Kiester...I'm gonna chuckle my self to sleep...
Lil D, the Oreo Stix don't agree with me...it certainly can't be the Water!
Aggie...the key word is Intervention, his addiction was a long time coming...You don't just wake up and say "Hmmm I'll have some scrambled eggs and Black Tar Heroin"...His friends and family should have seen this...I've been Drug and Drink free for 28 years, Smoke free for 10...I saw God he told me "Do NOT drink"...I wished he would have said a quit the Cigerettes too, But he saw I was married...
I feel for the Grubb family, I've lost loved ones to addictions...
D2 your spot on!

no nothing is a "personal choice"
this one d2 iam a lil ???? on about it being a choice?
yeah i agree it is alot harder than you can fathom to stop..
I know , I was a drunk ass for years.. BTW , I beat it and won... well u made a choice RIGHT?? and hey i repect anyone who does this or quits smoking ect
we all have addiction some are just more visbaly destructive than others and some we do out of boredom or who knows why
i still say its a choice or not being able to do something in moderation
Posted by: aggie | May 8, 2009 9:52:23 PM
J2 , most of your post I agree with, with NASCAR needing intervention..
The part I dont is this:
" Grubbs, different matter all together. It's a behavioral choice matter and the consequences were tragic.
Posted by: Jon2 | May 8, 2009 11:13:59 AM"
I know J2, you are perfect, your shit doesnt stink, we are rednecks, Nazi's on and on..
But no popular to what your uptight ass thinks, no nothing is a "personal choice" it happens and a addiction chemical or drinking is alot harder than you can fathom to stop..
I know , I was a drunk ass for years.. BTW , I beat it and won...
Also, DRIVERS have called NASCAR, Brian out on this.. REVIEW PLEASE.
Jeff B, Harvick, Gordon etc have. Does it change? Oh no, Brian stays too drunk to maintain a thing
F5, you know the Area, am I lying?
No its sad for the Grubbs, and on Park and Jerry, they DO NEED help and some backup as the NFL, NBA has for help injuries and utter disabilites
Posted by: Dani2 | May 8, 2009 8:29:25 PM
My picks: 14, 18, 31, 24 & 39.
Posted by: Dawn | May 8, 2009 7:40:27 PM
I agree The France Family Mafia needs to step up and take care of the drivers. They Reap Billions off fans, Drivers, Endorsements, and Merchandise...It's time to pay it forward...Without the Drivers you'd have F1
Posted by: Fan #5 | May 8, 2009 1:34:38 PM
My condolences to Kevin Grubb's family and
friends. This tragedy might have been
prevented had he got some help. NASCAR needs
to start a fund to help the drivers in need.
Posted by: Dottie | May 8, 2009 1:16:48 PM
With respect to Nadeau and Parks. You would think NASCAR and the drivers would set aside part of their earnings in a foundation to benefit the likes of a N or P who suffered career ending injuries. I believe the NFL has a program for this.
I would especially fault the drivers who are the ones who are the ones at rist if a support foundation hasn't been setup for instances such as Nadeau and Parks.
With respect to the Grubbs guy. Tragic. But this sometimes happens when you engage in bad behavior. Read where at one race he refused to take the drug test with an automatic suspension occurring. Reference is made to the NFL and other major sports orgs and their drug rehab process. In the overwhelming majority of these situations, even when the abuser goes through rehab, etc., still falls off the wagon.
The NASCAR response to the Nadeaus and Parks of the sport as far as financial and otherwise needs attention, with in my opinion, the drivers taking the lead. Grubbs, different matter all together. It's a behavioral choice matter and the consequences were tragic.

d2
But Brian wants to compete with the NFL? NO WAY
yeah right.....the nfl somewhat resembles a democracy and cup is still like stallin's russia or cuba today iam being kind its more like vince m & WWE only difference is brain cant script the outcome of races!!! just the yellows
Posted by: aggie | May 8, 2009 10:24:46 AM
Condolences to the Grubb family. What a shame Kevin didn't get the help he needed. Whether he asked for it or not, it's a tragedy.
I'm pulling for Stanton Barrett to make the Indy 500. He was slowest in practice yesterday, 8 mph off the fastest. But since he's a rookie I'm hoping he can pick up some speed before quals.
Posted by: Dawn | May 8, 2009 9:32:11 AM
Yeah D2...I was wondering about that.I figured Nascar wasn't as up to snuff with drug intervention and programs to help those in trouble out as they should have been.Yet they are trying to be main stream and corporate and be big time.Sounds like the NFL to me with the lack of help and funding to aid those retired or injured players that help them make all that loot.Sad deal.So many cast stones at kids like Grubb and Fike and don't think they deserve another chance.Well....you can get a deal like with Grubb and no one wins.I don't know if he was offered help or wasn't.Point is it is a shame this kid left way to early.....
Yep Deb....another diva in sports gets caught. What a moron.Manny being Manny.More like Manny is a dumbass and yet fans will continue to support these overpaid underappreciative penisheads.....Be interesting when Bonds,Aroid, and Manny are up for vote to the hall........

I am scared I agree with J2, this recruting crap is a joke.
HS, College's are in the pocket of a agent..
I am a FL State football fan but Bobby is so out of the loop he has no idea whats going on? WTF..
ON College B Ball- Memphis= 38.3 grad rate. VERY VERY SAD. DUKE and UNC do hold the title on Grad rates for college kids on B Ball , followed By Kanas...
Next one, While I am going to piss a few off I cant refuse this..
Sad to see the loss of Kevin G. While many might chalk him up to a "drug addict" . I cant.
NFL, NBA, every other sport has a damn program for help and is paid for by the "league", not here.Which is BS. TOTAL BS..
But Brian wants to compete with the NFL? NO WAY
Sad, he screwed up yes, but sorry NASCAR should provide some interdication prior to him killing himself..
NASCAR's approach to this with Kevin or a accident in NASCAR is F***ED.. Totally fucked. Kevin killed himself from no damn help, and Jerry Nadeau, Steve P suffer daily..
Mike, Brian adn the powers that be , thing need to change.
No insurance is offered, help, or a hand to be there. THe ones whom help are ones you knows.
Prayers and thoughts to the Grubbs.. THis should not have happened .

F#5,
Good point.
But I don't think these extremely talented kids, knowing they're pro bound, really take their studies seriously, be it in hs or college. Recall when I was in college the jocks took the easy courses, such as Rocks for Jocks (geology) and majored primarily in physical education, a major not known to expand knowledge or challenge the brain cells.
I get amused when the NFL announcers proclaim a players major while in college, usually pe, not that there's anything wrong with majoring in pe. We all need to be healthy and exercise. Very very rare are the hard science and matematico majors ever mentioned. But hey, if I feel I got a chance to make millions and agents are lining up by the dozens when I'm in the 10th grade telling me I got the goods, I'm going to concentrate on my sport skills and that physics class can wait, or not.
Posted by: Jon2 | May 7, 2009 5:10:56 PM
Well J2...because it's a "Kid's Game", and Schools have jumped on the $$$$$ Train, ao there is less emphisis on Education and luring more bodies in with "Sports Programs"
Posted by: Fan #5 | May 7, 2009 4:28:04 PM
Manny, what a freakin $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
idiot he is. How stupid can you be when Baseball is all into the drug thing and you fail a drug test. Those freakin dreadlocks has sucked out all his brain cells from his stupid head. The freak will still play and he will still get those big time $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

If the owners are willing to pay those types of bucks to athletes and the fans willing to pay the dollars to go watch them, what person in his/her right mind would say - no thank you, too much money. A-Rod may have/had his issues, but accepting boatloads of money proferred to him by some rich guy - please give me more.

Aggster,
Got a one day holiday coming up in a few days, a second chance one if you didn't get the first one right in April. Won't celebrate this one. Believe I got the first one right this time.
Hopefully will get up to Cincy to see a Red's game in a short while. Other than that, nose is to the grind stone trying to keep the funds coming in. Going to be a very very hard year economically. This anti-business crap coming out of Washington is not helping matters at all.
Ovenchkin (sp?) was on espn the other night getting interviewed. Tore up his sports car doing 180s in the parking lot. The dude looks odd. Sorta reminded me of those cavemen on the GEICO commercials. Maybe he was having a bad makeup day. Dunno.
Been to the NC OBanks yet?

Are you retarded? I have no beef with "God's chosen people". Goddamnit, when I took Israel's side in the ongoing fued with Hammas/Hezbollah/ rag heads etc. some people took offense at my "siding" with Israel. But you seem to think I hate the damn Jews. Far from it buddy. I have even eaten Matzo Balls and potato pancakes, dude. And I think they should bomb Palestine into oblivion frankly.
I was just pointing out that for YOU of all people to make such a crazy, broad spectrum statement as to say that all Germans are Nazi's was OUT THERE. ( For YOU I mean )
You being so P.C. and upscale and all.
Anyway, fuck off.
