Rain shortened 600 - what a joke
NASCAR really proved it's inconsistency this time. I realize that they can't do much about the weather, but, NASCAR aways says that they will only start a race when they think they can get the whole race in. If anyone had any doubts, they were proven yesterday with the 600. Everyone knew there was no way they could get the whole race in, heck, look how long it took to get 227 laps in, which is just past halfway. Why can't NASCAR just be honest and say we're gonna try to make it halfway before the rain ruins everything? That's what they do, I mean everyone knew there was no way they were going to get the whole race in, but NASCAR still spouted their line.
Reutimann ended up being the benefactor at the end, electing not to pit and ended up winning. I was a bit confused with how many actually pitted, I guess they were thinking they'd get back out there and run a few more laps.
I definitely can't say there was anything exciting about the race, with the small amounts of racing in between the rain delays, it made it difficult to get into the race. I can only imagine how frustrated and/or boring it was for the drivers and pit crews.
Hopefully the next race will hold some excitement.
Your thoughts?

I agree about the joke called the coke 600!
Same as Daytona 500. Nascar and Mike Helton are a joke! $$$$ hungry SOB's that have ruined the spirit of NASCAR.
The old rule; that run 1/2 the laps and it's a race. came back in the day when they raced Fri, Sat & Sun! I would have much rather had the race postponed and run THE FIRST UNSCHEDULED week off! HELLO?? Don't that sound good? But then these mutimillionaires wouldn't get to go hunting and fishing, and getting tanked.
I for one will be glad when NASCAR goes broke and has to go back to racing like they did in the 60's & 70's.

Casey Mears after jumping to RCR must still be in "R & D equipment" cause his average finish is the same as it was last year in HMS "R & D equipment" - back in the nosebleed section.
R & D equipment, that's a laugh DJ.
Apparently you forget talent has a lot to do with the performance of a car. Please just admit this one thing: last years HAAS drivers Riggs and Raines(?) aren't in the ball park of Tony and Ryan, translated: That's the main reason the HMS equip supplied to Stewart - HAAS is performing better this year. IT'S THE TALENT.
And answer me this. To get into the HMS stable Kelloggs has to pony up what is it 20-25mill annually for the 5 car and same applies probably to the other'n. I'm certain it's no big deal to them that Big Rick uses their 25million in cereal money for some of his use me like a lab rat car trials in the #5 car and the other'n in order to feed vital information to the 24 & 48 for them to run better. Your argument is nonsense.

Exile,
You say "yall" first like it's going out of style, and two that everybody shares the same opinion on both driver/cc combos. I think you would be mistaken to lump everyone into those categories.
I believe the general consensus is that CK is hands down the best crew chief in the garage today. Opinions vary on JJ ability without him, but all agree he would be less successful without CK.
I don't think anyone claims that either Dale Jr. or Eury Jr. are the best at anything. But, i believe opinion is that Dale Jr. has had more driving success without Eury Jr (16 wins) as his CC then he has with him. So, the question is why? Why does he perform worse with Eury Jr. as his CC then he did before?
Posted by: Michael | May 28, 2009 2:27:04 PM
Give him credit for holding on to that piece to allow his CC to make the necessary changes,be it training wheels,a passy, new diapers and maybe a lid for his sippy cup!!LOL!!
yo DJ...
you hit it on the head !!!
what was the magic with ray and jeff... jeff hung on till ray figured it out then they won it.
happened over and over.
same way with ck and jimmie.
if i was in cup i'd be a little worried that dg and tony did the same sh*t at the all star.
plus if i was jr (that's gotta be a fun gig in life) i wouldda demanded darien grubb when i went to hendrick.
Posted by: exile | May 28, 2009 2:19:39 PM
"Not sure what point you are trying to make"
ok
one more time and i'll try to push the keyboard buttons a little more slowly.
y'all say jj can't drive and only wins cause ck is his cc.
then
y'all say even though his cc is tops jr don't win cause he can't drive.
in one case the driver wins due to his cc.
in the other the driver don't win even tho his cc is one of the best.
can't have both ways.
maybe jj CAN drive
and eury jr isn't that good or they actually hate each other like (jon+1) and (kate+1) plus 8 and at least one is willing to screw the business totally cause they despise the other one.

Michael...we don't really know the whole truth now do we?In the past the 5 and 25 were not as good as the 24 and then the 48.That is a fact.It could be due to not as good of stuff,r&d,whatever.Could be obviously that the driver talent was better. We don't know 4 sure, only HMS knows for certain sounds like.Just opinions,narrow-minded theories,whatever....
As far as holding Kyle down....again not sure.Gotta think the 5 was doing some r&d as well as the 25.Vickers to me has proven more talent in an upstart Yoda team even though his stats might be better.Kyle as a brat yes.A talented brat that obviously didn't feel he was or could reach his potential in that 5 and being constantly behind the 24,48,and under Felon's rules simply was suffocating him.So I gotta think Kyle would never be a fit in those shadows,so he got the hell out and blew up didn't he?Kid still is 24.He has got all the time in the world to get championships......
Again,I don't pull for him...but I am open-minded enough to see it could be any # of reasons for his stunt at HMS and his blossuming at Gibbs.the 5 and 25 were always in the shadows.MM is still behind him,but do you think MM would put up with inferior stuff or R&d stuff??I feel that based on those first few races this year,HMS was still in that mindset.Gotta think some changes occured and a meeting or 2 with MM and Felon let them know that MM wasn't going to put up with that.MM sure has blown up the last couple months, yes? He signed for another year as well.I just feel HMS finally has given the good stuff to all teams and affiliates like the 14 and 39.You got TS and MM who simply wouldn't allow inferior stuff. The 88 is a clusterf###.The driver is good, not great. The CC was adequate, not great. The crew is still waiting on Jr to find the pit stall.Maybe they will get their shit togther to "save" Nascar.Hell,we all got opinions now don't we.....
GA...last post on this topic or what?Don't u go nowhere....
Ex....JJ is a good driver with a great CC.Gotta think JJ without that is a top 15 kinda guy.Not a back marker so to speak. But how many races have we seen the 48 sucking and finally with about 50 laps he is there?Give him credit for holding on to that piece to allow his CC to make the necessary changes,be it training wheels,a passy, new diapers and maybe a lid for his sippy cup!!LOL!!JJ is alright man and he has 3 Cups and for that he deserves his due,so I'll give him some......
Posted by: DJ | May 28, 2009 1:54:59 PM
Ok Don, you need to put the crack pipe down for a minute, you obviously have killed off way too many brain cells.
Kyle Busch is talented, but not great and Junior maybe average (I won't concede to that) but he doesn't suck as a driver.

exile, Thanks for the info. I will check out "Mike the Mouth's" book.
I forgot to mention Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan. I like the guys who have been pros for a number of years. Not a fan of the newbies.
Whether it's the driver or CC with the 88. We might find out in a few races. Looking forward to seeing if Jr. improves.

Exile,
Not sure what point you are trying to make (Dale Jr. sucks and Eury Jr. is the one of the best crew chiefs?) But...
Dale Jr. = 18 Cup Wins as a driver
Eury Jr. = 2 Cup Wins as a Crew Chief
I think you have to stick with the guy with the 18 wins....

ok rocket science arm chair crew chiefs...
you jj haters say over and over and over that jj only wins because he has the best #1 crew chief in the business. if jj gets in another race car he's a back marker.
right ??
ok
so if jr totally sucks and can't hit his ass it's because he's a crappy driver who can't do shit with one of the best crew chiefs in the garage.
crappy driver wins with best crew chief
crappy driver can't win with best crew chief
how's that work again ??
all the tv talkin heads last weekend and monday remarked what jr's car was a complete pos.
who's fault was that.
driver can't communicate to cc or cc don't know wtf to do with the info ??

Graceann,
I think you contradicted yourself. You say Kyle B. couldn't succeed at Hendrick because he wasn't given the resources. But, Jr. (at the same place) can't succeed with all of the resources? I don't understand the thought process that Kyle B. and Casey Mears were given a bunch of crap equipment to drive and crappy personnel. But, Mark Martin is doing just fine with the same equipment and personnel that they had.
Gibbs didn't go out and build all new cars and hire a new crew for the 18 when he hired Kyle. He gave him the same equipment and team that has sucked for almost a decade. And Kyle has been succesful.
Why can't people just admit that nobody was stopping Kyle from succeeding at Hendrick. He did win a few races by the way. Just admit that the truth was, that he was still learning as a driver while he was there and his attitude sucked. He acted like a little brat.
Let's not forget, Kyle B. CHOSE to drive for Hendrick. He left his ride at Rousch to drive for Hendrick.
Nobody stopped Kyle from doing anything at Hendrick, so lets just saying it. He burned his bridges there, lost his job, and got really lucky to end up in the position he has.
Posted by: Michael | May 28, 2009 12:48:43 PM
I will only post this last time & be done. To those I offend I am sorry (you know who I am referring) to the other Oh Well. First, Kyle Busch was shut down at Hendrick, he was not allowed to "out shine" the "Super Star". You don't suddenly learn how to drive & win like he has done since he was kicked to curb for a "cash cow". Hendrick jumped at the chance to sign Jr. for the merchandising dollars. He figured Jr. could hold his own on the track & with the better equipment an improvement would be a given. Since this hasn't been the case & the bottom has fallen out he figures he has to do something. The resources Jr. had at his fingertips could have made him a champion if used correctly. A Crew Chief does not make a driver a winner, it takes talent & determination. Stewart is a fine example of this, he spent many years with Zippy & has adapted very well with Grubb. One last word, J2; NASCAR is not saved because Jr. has a new Crew Chief, as much as your twisted mind thinks, Jr. is not NASCAR. It's been nice, Folks just can't take it anymore!

LMAO...TE out McGrew in...Funny didn't Theresa swap CC's and was crucified for ruining DEI???...I see more Boo Hoo Hankies for the Jr Nation
Michael, Kyle has always been a driver...remeber the comments of the First COT win...Kinda reminds me of another Champion, I'm just glad to see he found the winning combination
Posted by: Fan #5 | May 28, 2009 12:07:52 PM
Correction: McGrew is an interim cc for Junior.
Anyway, good fortune to this change which will (fingers crossed) bode well for the sport.

"...Good for Kyle for being able to beat all of the has beens and never were in the truck series each week. If he that's what gets his jolly's off, go for it. But, he's not racing against his peers...." by Michael
Funny. Nothing like winning one in the junior varsity league where the 'never made it in the big leagues' drivers reside.
Other,
Junior is getting a new crew chief, dude named Lance McGrew, sorta got a hollywood sound to it. TE is being shuffled to the file cabinet section of research and development.
Praise to be to the G-d of your choice and as well to Big Rick, the sport has been saved.
Posted by: Jon2 | May 28, 2009 10:57:27 AM
Dani2,
Yes, we all know your despise for all things Hendrick. Of course it was Hendrick's fault that Kyle wasn't winning. It had nothing to do with his attitude or ability to drive at that time. 100% Hendrick's fault. Your right of course.
Yes, some people know J. Gordon as a winner. But, if you ask most fans, they couldn't tell you the number of wins he has, but they could tell you the number of championships. The same with Dale Sr.
Good for Kyle for being able to beat all of the has beens and never were in the truck series each week. If he that's what gets his jolly's off, go for it. But, he's not racing against his peers.
When he races against his peers in the Nation Wide and Cup, there are plenty of people that match him in wins and points standings.
Kyle certaintly is successful, no doubt about it. Never said he wasn't. Just stating the fact that championships are a measure of greatness in all sports. Kyle hasn't won a championship in any of the 3 series. Many others have. Ask Mark Martin if he'd rather have 92 wins or a championship.

Let me piss off a few more on this, there is a fine line when 2 drivers are talking and a Crewman feels the need to run his mouth.
dani2
totally agree.
at first i hadn't seen the video just read versions of it's reality.
anyway after seeing it i noticed david r tried to silence his crew boy and at the same time move between the dome and tony then tried to move tony and himself away from the dumbass.
it was obvious david was more annoyed at biggars than tony.
besides tony said d r was holding him up and the cars behind him were catching up to him and bunching up behind him.
like it's a quarter into the race and that's not the time to try to be a hero.
if there were 43 tony's out there each race it would be more fun.

I see they put ol #7 under the microsope again...D2 I agree with you...sorta...on Smoke...BUT I have issues with him, I love the guy BUT...When I raced I had veteran ask "What are you gonna do"...And I'd say "I'm going to the front...Lead, Follow, or GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY"...I call Ky Busch Syndrome...It was called The Intimidator Syndrome back then...Smoke coulda raced hard too...I've seen his cars they got the same pedals as Ruet!

Gretchen
Rick can change the crew chief, but if it's
the DRIVER's lack of focus, then the next
C.C. will get the same results.
You're right Gretchen but some changes are
needed some where along the line. There's
no chemistry within in the 88 team and
something is lacking, whether it be the CC,
driver or the team as a whole. Maybe, Jr.
just needs to get with a whole new team
period and away from family.

Agg....yes NC has alot of options.Blue Ridge Parkway is very nice for the mountain visit. You flying, riding, what?
Lebron needs some help...you can't stop Howard right now and when you double him up the 3 ball is the difference.
D2....not pissed at all, just a difference of opinion. We know you are going to stick up for TS and Kyle and that is fine.Kyle is the man to beat each week in any series he races in.Your right TS is TS.I like him sometimes, sometimes I don't.It's cool.......
Got some killer concerts in NC this Summer.I got tix for the Motley Crue,Theory of a Deadman and the Def Lepard,Cheap Trick and Poison and also Nickleback,Hinder,Saving Abel.I recommend beer for these events and buying the DD a tix!

HUH?
"Kyle B. wasn't winning like this until he got in a Toyota.
Also, until he wins a championship it doesn't mean much. Petty is the only driver recognized for his number of wins. Everybody else is noted for the number of championships they've won. Mark Martin is the man who hasn't won a championship, not the guy with 92 wins in Nascar.
Posted by: Michael | May 27, 2009 10:00:18 AM"
Did I miss the fact that the 24 also is noticed for his wins? Did I note that regardless (since Kyle left HMS and had a shot at a real team and car/owner) he wins. He is 24 with 53 wins in 3 Series..
Wow that sucks at being 24 years old and not going anywhere anytime soon.
J2,
I see you got another set of knees pads besides the 48 now;
"If this happens Junior will start winning again and save the sport.

Let me piss off a few more on this, there is a fine line when 2 drivers are talking and a Crewman feels the need to run his mouth. I get and grasp standing up for your driver in a fist fight, pushing and in one anothers face. Which NONE OF that was going on.
Smoke is Smoke( and i have no issue with him talking to DR). Chrome head needed to BAck the F**K up.
On that I am not slamming either driver, nor anything only the mouthpiece of a Crewman.

yeah aggie the poker action is crazy as hell i love that stuff.
a couple weeks ago i won a local 125 player tourney. it's like hours of boredom with seconds of shear terror thrown in to make it fun.
i read about a guy who raised allin heads up cause the other player rechecked his cards on the river so he decided he had not made his hand or he wouldn't have... etc.
daniel is an interesting guy. the big card players to a certain extent place no value on money. but then when you're a 21 year old kid and you can win 50k in 10 minutes or go up or down a million in a month i guess it kinda skews your thinking.

don't ya just love those old funny cars. like the altered wheelbase dodges and the thunderbolts and then the one piece flip up bodies etc.
it's the feeling i get when i see a picture of some brave ol' driver wheelin a 64 chevy down the backstreach and runnin it off into 3 at a couple hundred mph.
what the hell were they thinkin' ??
speaking of the old haulers aggie check this out...
Don Prudhomme "the snake" found his '67 Dodge D700 ramp truck.
"Although Funny Car-toting ramp trucks were plentiful in those days, the D700 was a step beyond most, from its crew-cab layout to overhead tire storage and lockers. Prudhomme's truck was used for two years by NASCAR legend Richard Petty before Prudhomme, who was seeking a quality ride to complement his new sponsorship, obtained it."

Didn't have air conditioned racing suits in those days. Dave Marcis wore dress shoes when racing. Sometimes the crew chief changed tires. They didn't load their cars in trailers, some drove 'em to the track and some towed 'em behind a vehicle. Many of the drivers wore plain street clothes and a helmet with only goggles when racing. These drivers today in all their gear look like something out of outer space. And at the end of a race if the driver wasn't in a car, couldn't tell who he was until he washed the grime off his face, or could be identified by the size of his belly. Them's the days citizens.

aggie, if you are driving through Indiana, gas prices have gone crazy. Ten days ago I filled up at $2.13, today it is $2.65. Vacation time is starting and the price always goes up this time of year no matter what the oil price is.

Rick can change the crew chief, but if it's the DRIVER's lack of focus, then the next cc will get the same results. THE CHANGE will at LEAST show the world WHAT the damn problem is, and what it is NOT. IMHFO
Chemistry.....the 88 team has NONE right now. ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH, NADA. They are going through the motions and NOT very quickly either.
Posted by: Gretchen | May 27, 2009 12:28:10 PM
Kyle said they pitted b/c they only had 5 laps of gas left so if he had stayed out and Nascar kept em driving around under yellow to see if it was real rain or just a brief sprinkle, he would have been screwed anyway. It was likely the same situation for the other guys that pitted since they were coming close to having to make green flag stops anyway. In hindsight, pitting was the "wrong" call and the three other guys made the "right" call, but it would have been even worse if they had run out of gas riding around under yellow.
The situation sucked all the way around.
I'm going to forget about the race and just keep thinking of the awesome sight and silence of those cars parked on the frontstretch, honoring the sacrifices made by our military and their families. That, my friends, Nascar got right.

That's right Ma....Why do you think guys like Robert Pressley,my guy RG,and other not so pretty, hard -nosed racers race the leaders hard??So F the prima donna bitches that get their pannies in a wad when someone actually "races" them hard.Give em a damn passy, shut up and race. You could be like most of us fans, struggling paycheck to paycheck.......

Lets face it those guys back long time ago in that era were racing to put food on the table and pay the bills. You don't do well, you don't eat well. No contracts that guaranteed them a base plus part of the earnings. I double dee guarantee you this, if the drivers of today were told you earn what you get off your placing, there would be a whole lot more racing. Them times were the true blue collar era.

Rain, a part of racing. Except it or watch basketball.

The rain is a part of racing and the decisions made when rain is a factor will never please everyone. You either accept that or go to a basketball game.

don
not going to open a can of worms here
this sports era arguements are hard to win or loose some days
the bottom line is teh players today are in way better physical shape and better prepared unless u had guys like ted williams with exceptional vision who today i think would still bat 400 :) most of todays atheles are better prepared
imagine the old days when guy raced and drove home in an f350 with the car on the back and wife kids in the front seat
bobby wood a friend of mine a 2 time nhra FC champ told me he drove 80,000 miles one year
exile u like history check this out
http://www.woodcarbs.com/history.htm
i wa swatching this poker player 34 daniel nagarano on tv and he was yakking about diet and eating training for poker
u sit at table for 16 hours for six days and then have a jr brain fart for 1/110 of sec and loose 5 mil cuse u dint read a guy face or see a twitch in his fingers for nervouness and a bluff
don yakking abot equioment
only other old guy who kicked ass then and would today was sam sneed with no fancy balls and drivers the guy ave'd 300 yds one season..... today with the equipment today the guy would be right tehre with woods and pgs guys in ave drives
speaking of woods when was the last time the pga tour saw a 200-210 free safety type build guy on the tour?

Kyle B. wasn't winning like this until he got in a Toyota.
Also, until he wins a championship it doesn't mean much. Petty is the only driver recognized for his number of wins. Everybody else is noted for the number of championships they've won. Mark Martin is the man who hasn't won a championship, not the guy with 92 wins in Nascar.

dj
Give a race to each the Rock and N.Wilksboro.
N.Wilksboro. and the rock for sure as wilks is like the tight dirt 3/8 tracks we have by here in ND.......10 seconds laps by donnie shautz are just a sight to be seen or seeing a guy go from 16th to 1st in 4 laps.......the roots of us racing is small tracks so just give the fans what they want passing and racing, not follow the leader and some focus groups demo graphic races
nascar has always been 200 mile an hour bill boards and it just spun itself out of control and now with the way the $$ is, how do fix it ????????? like all dictatorships its easy just get rid of the frances......if you want the big time like he talk about then step up......like the unions insurance for pit crews ectect
teh frances think they are the nfl and run it like 2 pit pikers most days and just gill their pockets with cash
dj i read whewre some sponsers are slow with their payment checks, some still deciding about 2010 even under contrac or trying to get $$ disount on sponsership
i think u might see a few teams leave before the end of the year
collge BB is so good there and the fans so eductaed in teh sport that its hard to sluff some NBA by them
dj trip planning is going ok and wow lots to see and do in that state
smokey mts might be a 2-3 day stay now, looks like to do and see there......and i ride the blue ridge parkway out there for a while on the ay to mooresville
i have to find victory junction
probbaly going to stay in mooresville by lake norman, then clayton and outerbanks up to virginia beach , i'll swin down your way from clayton fayetteville on my way to myrtle breach or willmington
dj just curious whats gas $ there now 2 a gallon?
ok dottie wings look real good pens looks too good and young and speed kills so its pens in 6-7
dj nba wow howard carmelo final or kobe
howard show down
OR is lebron setting us all up for a huge come back?? remeber jordan once scored 63 and the bulls lost lol its still a team game RIGHT

hey aggie
jesus h christ, little kyle has 15 CUP wins.
since petty has 200 and nobody is gonna come close some of kyle's BFFs have to think of a way to make him a legend in his own mind.
maybe ky has 53 if you count truck, nw, cup, and every time he visits a local track with 53 times the equipment to beat them local racers (wow).
does the let's make ky the driver of all time sh*t ever end.
guess not.

exile....how in the hell do you think Petty got 200 wins? sometimes raced 80 some races a year, dirt tracks, and every other short track he could find. Call them Cup races if you want, but Kyle is racing against better Equipment than Petty did.
Now I'm no great fan of the little shit, but he can drive circles around most, if not all of the other 42 guys on the track, in any series
