Johnson wins again...it's his title to lose now
Johnson wins another one and is now 90 points ahead of Martin in 2nd and 135 ahead of Gordon in 3rd. It seems like once again it's Johnson's title to lose now, unless he has some really bad luck or the magic hands of Knaus fail him.
Gordon gave up a good fight on that last restart, everyone around here thought I lost my mind when I was rooting for Gordon to pull ahead and away. I haven't lost my mind, I'd just prefer to see Gordon win than Johnson, unfortunately Gordon used up his car fighting with Johnson and Johnson was able to pull away.
Hoping next week will be a bit more exciting.

Kathy a little slow with updates giving Hamlin his due? Just too much to take? Well looks like 2nd, 8th, and 19th beats 9th, 10th, and 20th by 53 points this week. Another good week vs the only competition in the office pool.

You don't have to like JJ or Chad or anyone else for that matter. But I don't see how anyone with any objectivity doesn't respect what that team has done and continues to do. If you don't respect it, you're not paying attention.
A good article by Ricky Craven on that topic at http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news;_ylt=AgTz2vUKy_ifcxSQJfqgYbjov7YF?slug=rc-johnson102209&prov=yhoo&type=lgnshttp://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news;_ylt=AgTz2vUKy_ifcxSQJfqgYbjov7YF?slug=rc-johnson102209&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
Even if JJ doesn't win 4 in a row, it's still been one hell of a year for that team.

Hey, congrats to Brad K. and team on their
win in in the Nationwide Series at Memphis.
Way to go Brad.

F5, there will always be drivers who make or
break records in racing and J.J. like lots
of drivers in the past is going for a re-
cord. You are right the sponsors want the
drivers to have a nice quiet personality and
endorse their products. Remember at one time
Home Depot was upset with Tony over his
actions and Tony ended up being sent to
anger management classes. Yeah, if you snub
a reporter you have had it and you'll pay
the price. The drivers of today have to be
very careful and watch their language when
being interviewed. Look what happened to
Dale Jr. when he used the word sh-- when
being interviewed. He paid a whopper of a
price for that. These drivers are under a
lot of pressure from NASCAR in many ways.
I have always said the Cup drivers should
not be allowed to drive in the Nationwide
Series. The Nationwide drivers doesn't have
a chance to win a championship as long as
the Cup drivers are driving in the series.

Impressed with BK's win at Memphis...held off the Bump N Run by Rowdy...I think Penske is getting a better deal!
68, I guess I didn't think of it that way...I call em "RoadKill" and "Speedbumps"

exile - I wasn't endorsing drinking and driving and it doesn't matter to me what make of car anyone drives or owns. My point with Waltrip is that he tested below the legal alcohol limit. Just like thousands of other drivers do everyday. Whether that's right or wrong is not a factor since it's not illegal if you are below the limit.

68...I didn't want set a "Conotation"...the "Biker" was riding a "Harley" and had a "Few" beers...you see "That" could "Color" my comment LOL!
When you said Cyclist, it made me think about a yuppie type riding a 18 speed chugging beer out of his water bottle.

Congrats to Timothy Peters & team on their
win in the truck series.

wait a sec
big fox news type of change the story.
hey the harley rider was drinking... TOO.
it of course isn't a turdyoto drivers fault because...

let's spred the lie the harley guy was drinking maybe say he was drunk if people don't buy the first bullsh*t story.
that's some sad sh*t

Fan#5,
What is happening with Jimmie Johnson and people's attitudes toward him is no different than when Jeff Gordon was dominating when he came along. People loved him or hated him. I'd say fewer people love Johnson, but it doesn't change the fact that one driver was dominating the rest of the field and people hated him or loved him for it. Difference now is, Jeff isn't dominating and acting like an alter boy. Those who once hated him, don't and respect what he accomplished. Dale Sr. was the same. Now that he's gone, the folks who hated him respect his accomplishments. Those who did love him, embelish what he was. I'd say, in his prime his attitude and personality was much like Jimmie Johnson. A big middle finger if you don't like what I'm doing. It wasn't until he started his own team and Jr. started racing that he actually softened up and became personable to fans and media. All it takes is time.
How many Busch series regulars were winning when Mark Martin was running in it all those years? If he hadn't run partial schedules all those years he would have had a ton of Busch championships.
Mega teams haven't done anything but put more competitive cars on the track. It's the same Owners who were winning with one car teams that are now winning with 3 and 4 car teams.
Posted by: Michael | Oct 24, 2009 1:39:45 PM
F5 - I agree with you about Michael.

Dottie...No even if it where my driver stinking up the show the racing in general has been boring, When Dale Sr would win...There were RIVALRIES and PERSONALITIES, Now it's smile and endorse said products and look pretty...GOD Forbid if you snub a reporter or say the COT Sucks
Mega Teams make the sport suck...it's all about money how fast do you want to go?
The Busch series is a Joke when was the last time a Busch regular won? or a Cup backed team DIDN'T win the Championship?...
.06 is what MW blew, the Cyclist also consumed alchohol...I know exactly where this happened I don't consider it a MAJOR road like River Rd...I'm plenty sure that there were some .10's driving after any race...Just remember Over the Limit, Under Arrest...

Whether you like the #48 team or not, IMO,
I don't think J.J. and the 48 team are
concerned with anything but winning their
4th. back to back championship right now.
Stop and think, if this was your driver in-
stead of J.J. you would be jumping with joy
and you wouldn't care what anyone said. I
know I would if it was the #14. I have the
highest respect for the 48 team and if they
win their 4th. championship they certainly
deserve it. Dale Sr. once told Jeff Gordon
don't worry about the boos from the fans,
just worry when they stop. I think Jeff
Burton summed it up pretty good when he said
it means that driver is beating up on the
competition and their fans don't take kindly
to it. Dale Jr. has more fans then any
driver out there but every driver has a fan
base. I may be the only gal on here that
likes the 48 team but so be it.

Another good JJ article. This one comparing his driving style to SR's style. Also helps explain why the SR/JR crowd don't like JJ. Different styles appeal to different types of fans. It's human nature really.

I'm a little confused on why Ford would debut their new engine at Talladega. Wouldn't you want to run it at a 1.5 mile track since they dominate the series.
The engine will turn less rpm's at a restrictor plate track. I would think they would like to run in actual race conditions with rpm changes around the track. Talladega is just going to be the pedal to the metal.

Speaking of dynasties.
Comparing Jeff G's and JJ's first seven year (part of eight for Jeff because CUP expanded # of races later) full schedule CUP statistics: 252 races Jeff won 51 times = 20% win ratio. 252 races for JJ who during that time won 40 times = 16% ratio. Both drivers during that period won three championships.
Interesting.

"I got an Idea...Give Dale Jr Chad Knaus and JJ, McGrew? I mean really. JJ is so phenominal he'd win a 5th? don't you think?" f#5
He would. I remember when Chad was sidelined for six races for strategically misrepresenting CUP rules, JJ still won two races and placed great at the other four with Chad not directing the pit stops and race adjustments. The dude's a phenom.
The 2009 champeenship is his to lose and no one should be surprised if this chorus is repeated in 2010.
'course, there's Tally......which might cause things to come unhinged.....
Interesting how Big Rick puts together the Jeff - Ray dynasty and now the JJ - Chad dynasty.
Forecast says 62 and sunny for raceday at Marty. Foliage changing, great racing weather.

Mikey has a driving problem, nitro. I don't care if he drinks because that's his business. He doesn't have the right to put others at risk because he's too cheap to call a cab or hire a driver.

Mikey has got a drinking problem. First he rolls his SUV and disappears from the scene and now this. I hope the biker is okay and sues the living hell out of Mikey and the owner of the Lexus which is more than likely owned by Toyota and a dealership. This guy can't drive sober or drunk!!

You were a man after my heart with that one. Especially after the one about your left sides went down on your trailer and caused your $hit to fall off the nightstand.
I agree with you about Junior, totally. The state of NASCAR has A LOT to do with his sucking this year- and last- and his move to HMS, IMHFO. The boy does NOT fit in over there, at all. And I think if he were honest, he'd admit to himself and his fans that he made a TERRIBLE descision to go over there. The grass is not ALWAYS greener, and if it is, it's likely fertilized, with a ton of bull$hit.
That, and the fact the Johnson just has not won over a fanbase, like, that of Gordon, Stewart, Busch, DEj, Khane, etc. And Jimmie is the best out there right now, insofar as wins, titles, etc.
I do not like him. And as a fan, I am entitled to my opinion on him. Just do not like him. Period.
The economy plays a role in it, as does, Brian France's "leadership".
But I damn well assure you, that IF this was a battle between Martin, Jeff, and Tony....the ratings would be MUCH higher and the attendance would be MUCH higher. And if DEj could score some competitive finishes, it would help also.
Just my opinion.

Posted by: Dawn | Oct 22, 2009 2:05:47 PM
See....even the littlest old thing like a blog gets boring if the subject is puke from JJ's kneepad club or someone trying to vouch why one should give him his do or comparing stats or how great a dude he is....blah blah blah....This blog is just like the sport itself.Loosing interest day by day, race by race. The only stats you kneed to look at are the TV ratings and the empty seats. If your boy pads his lead this week then it will only get worse.Sad isn't it that your driver and team has a major role in folks deciding to do yard work or watch the Food Channel than watch what was once a real, raw, fun to watch event? You are happy now with your boy and I guess you should be as they are the best and sure there are other variables that aid the declining interest. But you cannot deny that the 48 is stinking up the joint and this will hurt in the long run.But what are they suppose to do,start sucking just so the rest can catch up,you ask? No,guess not.Just saying that it is a shame one team and one dumbass CEO is ruining what used to be Nascar.I put alot on the owners as well for not manning up and staying abreast with the 48 and most of HMS.I mean the damn cars are the same right? The engines are the same right?A ton of the pit crews are turning 13 second stops.2 tires vs 4,gas,no gas,a round here and air pressure adjustment there???All these top teams have got most of that part down pat.CK is smart but is he so smart that he is in a class by himself?Yes,because his team has got the rest of the field by the balls but I do not understand why Roush,Childress, and Gibbs are not on at least or close to equal anything with equipment and CC's that the 48 has.Save your putting HMS on a pedistle.Save how great the driver is and how better the CC is above the rest.Save all that crap.I don't care. What I do care and wonder about is why the hell the other owners are not doing something somehow someway to keep up with that 48 team?Big Brian and company to stop drinking the 48's Koolaid and you fans need to not bath in it because his sucesses are directly correlating with Nascar's failures............

Aggster,
Cayman & Boxster were introed for those who couldn't afford a 911. Porsche's SUV is a souped up VW Toureg and this soccer mom station wagon they've rolled out imo further dilutes their image.
Early 70s, knew a guy who had a 914. Front storage hood was nothing more than a piece of flimsy plastic. Flexed like crazy. Piece of junk.
The 911 enthusiast cringes at Porsche's attempts to fill in high end market segments, especially the attempts to sell to the soccer moms to cart their kids around.
Marty picks are: #48,#14,#18,#24(says his back is peachy). Hamlin draws a line in the sand - Gonna turn JJ if the opp is there.

porsche panamera
that's a nice looking car.
i've loved porsches since 911's.
actually the 356 cabriolet with the tiny short window curtins was my first love.
the 914 wasn't really a full blooded porsche but it was way fun.
the 911's were excellent. the handling was special. i almost wiped out a street full of parked cars coming off a freeway exit and flicking it off into the corner at the bottom of the ramp... oops.
the 924 was kinda neat with too much understeer and the 944 turbo... i'd drive that today.
the 928 very interesting. i had a boss who bought a 928 new (or prob leased).
funny thing was he had a nice jaguar 2 door coupe that quit running at least once a week. one day he drove up in a 928. i asked him where the jag was... he said he left it 3 days ago unlocked in a parking lot, hoping it got stolen.
now that's some product endorsement huh.
the porsche panamera is unreal and 138k in the usa.
so what does your pal at the bmw dealership have to say about the new panamera?

harvick has won more and certainly the big races more than probably 98% of the rest of the drivers running today.
boyer was going strong last year until richard screwed the pooch and changed his stuff.
maybe in the end that was smart. maybe richard knew JD was only 1 more year and changed to keep boyer for the long run and loose loser cm after 1 season.

The Last American Hero Is Junior Johnson.
"We are all in the middle of a wild new thing, the Southern car world, and heading down the road on my way to see a breed such as sports never saw before, Southern stock-car drivers, all lined up in these two-ton mothers that go over 175 m.p.h., Fireball Roberts, Freddie Lorenzen, Ned Jarrett, Richard Petty, and -- the hardest of all the hard chargers, one of the fastest automobile racing drivers in history -- yes! Junior Johnson."

Aggster, Jr #22 and CM #18.
CM been looking stout recently. Needing job next year 'cause funding is leaving his car for 2010 and Richard appears to be rethinking the four car thing.
Looks like only Big Rick can manage the multi car thing effectively.
Even Panama Jack and his five car org has come up empty this year. Carl E won what 8? races last year and none this one. Major turn of events over there.
