DONE!
By: Dennis Terry
We are done!
Homestead not only signified the final race of the 2008 season, but the outcome of the race was indicative of most races this year where we watched Carl Edwards dominate and Jimmy Johnson get all the attention.
Homestead also provided us with a glimpse into NASCAR's future... a future that is still dominated by Roush and Hendrick despite NASCAR's best effort attempts to cut costs and equalize competition.
NASCAR's latest attempt to reduce the competitive edge of the "super teams" is to ban all testing starting on January 1, 2009. This mandate has both a compition and an economic origin.
Anybody want to take a stab at the "over/under" on how much Hendrick and Roush spend on testing during the next six weeks?
That, my fellow Lug NutZ, is why those two organizations have, and will continue to, be so dominate in a sport where half of a second marks the difference between the champions and everyone else.
What's next for me??? I'm planning to enjoy a few weeks of R&R before returning to DEI for offseason training. If you are into the stock market, I would recommend KKD as a strong buy. I'm sure to single handedly boost their profits this week.

Enjoy your time off, well deserved after a long season.
I don't think the question should be how much will Hendrick spend in testing over the next six weeks, but how much they will spend next season. As I understand it testing is only banned on NASCAR tracks that hold a race in the top three categaories. There is nothing stopping teams from testing elsewhere. So the big budget teams will still go testing and those teams struggling on a smaller budget will just fall further behind.

do you have a wall in your house where you can keep a running count (and your wife won't kill you) on those KKD's like the beams at Martinsville have hot dog totals?

"Despite NASCAR's best efforts to cut costs and equalize competition?"
WHAT EFFORTS?
A test ban? Ha! We all saw from 1990 onward that test limits only BENEFIT teams like Hendrick and Roush. The COT? Again, HA! A useless box with a gapped airdam, top-heavy roofline, and wing made aeropush worse.
NASCAR has made NO efforts to cut costs and equalize competition. We're not going to see such results until the day comes where we realize that no one is dominating the sport, no fewer than thirteen teams (not just drivers) are winning races, and an examination of team budgets shows an actual net REDUCTION in spending from $30 million for one car to something legitimately lower.
