Tires (2 or 4)
OK, if your sick of hearing about it so am i. At least ten different people have ask me about the shootout, and what i thought about Matt Borlands call to take two tires. Why don't they ask the other 18 teams that finished behind us. I don't get it, we do something different from the field and people want to question it. It's like if you don't go with the majority, they want to know why. What if the majority is wrong. Every other team took four and couldn't get by us. I imagine some of the other teams were thinking about it but didn't have the stomach to do it. One thing you can count on is that Matt and Ryan aren't scared to do what they think. Conventional or not they'll find a way to win, or come close trying.

If ryan had more help, he might've been able to stay out front. the current car setups make passing the leader damn hard unless you got help. it was a gutsy and good call.

Congrats on an excellent finish. The proof lies with all the cars that did finish behind you.
The real question should be would the same choice be made, given the same situation, in a points paying race?

Damn right.. it was a gusty call and almost paid in spades.. I'm not real used to gusty calls..I've only worked for Roush and Close.. (that's right, I got long history with Rambo Liberati, I'm sure you'll for give me for that).. Matt did allright.. all you guys did a helluva job.

I think if Jeremy Mayfield hadn't gotten caught speeding in the pits after his 2 tire stop and came out in the draft with Ryan, as we've heard was planned, people would be congratulating Matt Borland's call instead of second guessing him. Ryan could hang in there with his 2 tires. Obviously, it was a gamble, but maybe they've learned a thing or two on how the tires wear that will help in the 500 -- the big picture! Good luck Trent and the rest of the Alltel crew!

I think it turned out great. At first, I thought it was good because he was out front - and Ryan out front at Daytona is something I love to see. I think it was a great call, and I know Matt and Ryan are known to make different calls than most people. Usually, it works out :)

It seems to me that Matt and Ryan constantly make racing exciting. If Ryan is able to contend with the best drivers in NASCAR on two tires compared to their four, it's a great start to a year. As a fan of the 12 car, starting the year at Daytona normally doesn't fare well, but hopefully things will be different this year.
