Points Change
I got an email the other day asking me what i thought of the new points deal. Its a good question that lots of people have an opinion on. I love the new points chase. I think it makes the drivers drive harder and it makes everything you do more important. You could almost tell who was going to win the cup five races before it was over the last couple of years. Now its like a two segment season. First, you have a 26 race segment just trying to get in, which makes for some great racing. Second, you have the last 10 race segment, "The Chase", which was so close last year that you didn't know who was going to win the championship until they crossed the stripe. The pressure on the drivers is going to be alot more with the points the way it is. Every owner wants there driver to be in the chase. The TV coverage will be better and the sponsors will be happier. If your not a driver who can crack the top ten after being in the series for more than a couple of years, your gonna be looking for a job. Its getting that competitive and that's the way it needs to be. There are tons of new young drivers coming up and if you cant get it done then your gonna be out. There's a reason the drivers get paid millions of dollars to perform. If your not performing your not doing your job. The same performance is demanded out of the pit crews, crew chiefs, and mechanics. We all have the same pressures of being in the top ten.

i was a little skeptical of the points change before it all played out last year. but after seeing it in action, i think it's great. it gives a guy like ryan who didn't have a great first 26 races (obviously he was good enough to get into the chase, but barely) a chance to win the points. with ten races to go ryan was within 50 points and if he would've had a strong finish, he could've won the championship. in years past, he would've been out of the race half way into the season. so i agree with you, and i love your blog.

The new points system is really good for our team. Ryan is one of those drivers that is gonna give it his all every race. With that you have some DNFs but you also have a lot of poles and wins. So as long as we get in the top ten there s always gonna be a good shot at the trophy.
