Kasey earned it
My hats off to Kasey Kahne and the whole #9 car team. They won a race that was earned the whole night. The last two guys I would want in my mirror with ten to go would be Stewart and Newman. He held them both off and got the monkey off his back. Which brings me back to one of my earlier posts. I had Kasey as one of my most overrated drivers in Cup. I still think he gets a lot of hype for being so young and only having one win. A couple more like this and he ll be off the list for sure.
As far as the rest of the night went, it was good. We needed a good top 5 finish and we got it. That's two in a row and we head into Charlotte with alittle momentum. The last thing I want to do is head into the next Richmond race on the bubble of not making the chase. A little bit of a cushion would be nice this year, unlike last year.

Yep, Kasey's first cup win! Now lets see how much the media hypes up his win... And the first win for the new Charger... I am 100% positive it will be blown out of proportion. I can already hear the idiot DW talking shit.....

Kasey Kahne is the new face of NASCAR! He needs no hype. Kasey is the real deal and if it wasn't for a few bad luck incidents in '04 he would have won three races and made the chase.
Give the kid credit he sure as hell has earned it!

Why would you be scared to find Newman in your rear view mirror? He hasn't done crap this year and Richmond is not a fuel mileage track so there was no threat of Newman winning the race. Now Stewart or Harvick I can see being afraid of in my rear view mirror but Newman ain't nothing but a good qualifier.
Posted by: Stew | May 16, 2005 10:47:57 AM
Stew, just cause you dont like Newman doesnt meen he cant drive at Richmond. Saturday night was the only race at Richmond that Newman hasnt lead a lap. Oh, we won there also. So the more I think about it, your right. Newman wasnt a threat at Richmond.
Posted by: trent | May 16, 2005 11:20:25 AM
Yeah Stew, Harvick's pretty intimidating with his 5 wins! Was that fuel mileage that gave Ryan a 4 second lead with 2laps to go at Darlington too? What's Stewart done this year by the way?
Posted by: Jeff | May 16, 2005 11:45:37 AM
Stew, you need to start looking for that jar of peanut butter ol' boy!
Posted by: uncle Buddy | May 16, 2005 12:27:24 PM
Well said Trent. I have nothing against Kasey. In fact I am glad that if Ryan couldn't get the first win of 05 that Kasey did. But it will be blown out of porportion thats just a fact.
OH YEAH.... GO RYAN NEWMAN AND CREW!!!!!!
Posted by: Tiffy | May 16, 2005 12:36:34 PM
I agree Stew. Newman can qulaify but that don't get the $$ and the points. Penske ought to let him go on over to Rousch and drive that 6 car next year. He hasn't done anything at Penske but ruffle feathers. Congrats to Kasey....
Posted by: Baker | May 16, 2005 12:39:56 PM
Whats that you say Baker?
If Ryan cant get the points why is it that he was just out of the top ten in 15 or so and then all of a suddun is in 7th. Was it just fluke with the computers? Yes he can qualify great and get the points and the money just accept it.
Posted by: Tiffy | May 16, 2005 12:47:18 PM
I agree with Trent 100%. I'm not a fan of Ryan's but he was awesome on Sunday. To race the way he did in a backup car-amazing. It was great to watch him and Tony go at, but the win for Kasey is long overdue.

Baker, you ask what has Ryan done. Lets start with the third best winning percentage in Cup. I guess that doesnt pay the bills either.
Posted by: trent | May 16, 2005 1:52:40 PM
Baker is extra smart today!! Ryan hasn't done anything at Penske? LMAO
Posted by: Jeff | May 16, 2005 1:52:45 PM
Trent, Where did you get that info. You better check the battery in your calculator. I am betting he is on his way to Rousch. He certainly couldn't take over for what has been done in the "2" over the years.
Candieapples every blind hog finds an acorn every once in a while.
Tiffy His points position also has a lot more to do with the performance of others.

To take nothing away from Newman... but for ever race he's in and doesn't win... that percentage changes... lol So I wouldn't use that as a way of trying to defend the man... As for Kasey being over rated... I don't think so... Evernham has said more than once that Kasey is alot further along than Gordon was at this time in his career... I guess it will be a wait and see game. WTG GO 9 TEAM!

He certainly couldn't take over for what has been done in the "2" over the years.
What's that? Whine, bitch and moan? Please stop Baker, I'm still cleaning up my soda I spewed on my computer from laughing at you first post! "Ryan hasn't done anything at Penske" LMAO

Have to go with Baker on that one... although Newman is good... he'll never rack up the numbers like Wallace has in the 2. Sure poles are something to brag about... but lets see more wins... or at least more competing for the wins... and if anyone was listening to Roger Penske Sat... he said it... it was Rusty and Don who are to thank for the success of Pensk South... lets hope Newman can carry the torch... BTW... WTG Ryan for racing with a heavy heart Sat night... she would have been proud of your performance!
Posted by: M Benson | May 16, 2005 3:57:21 PM
Well it's hard to rack up those kind of numbers in just his fourth year in the Cup series. Eleven wins in just three and a quarter seasons isn't a bad start. Outside the 24 & 16 teams, no one is racking up wins so just because he has the balls to go for poles doesn't mean he doesn't know how to compete for wins. The last two weeks are an example.
Posted by: Jeff | May 16, 2005 4:05:49 PM
Jeff... I'm taking from anything from the 12 team... all I'm saying is that he needs to be a threat week in and week out... at every type of track... that's all... more consistant... as for the points Tiffy... we all know how that game works.... the points not only depends on Newmans race... but all the others in the top 20! ESP when there is only about 40 pts seperating 7th place and 11th... and only 120 seperating 6th thru 15th... anything can happen! you can swap 6th and 15th easy in 1 race.

Sorry M. Benson...didn't mean to go off. I'm just a Newman. I think he's done a great job since he been in Cup considering that he's had to switch from Ford to Dodge Intrepid to extreme rule changes and now to the Charger in four years. It's tough on teams to not go back to at least SOME notes from a year before. No one other than Rusty has had to go through that and we know good and experienced Rusty is.
Posted by: Jeff | May 16, 2005 4:29:46 PM
12 has more points than 2
12 has more points per race than 2
12 has more top 5's than 2
12 has more top 10's than 2
12 has better average finish than 2
and although it's taken for granted the point must be made that
12 has better average start than 2
ALL THIS - with a DNF...
Right now the 2 ain't got nothing on the 12.
Sorry.

Newman is like the 2005 New York Yankees-OVERRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Alan | May 16, 2005 4:54:14 PM
To the6and9... first of all... trying to compare Wallace and Newman isn't fair to either driver... and we should all ... including myself... see the differnce... Wallace has had a great career...Newmans is just beginning... Now if that 2 car hadn't...like Labaonte... been caught up in mishaps NOT of his making this year... those stats would be different. I'm a Labonte fan... but I like to follow all the drivers because everyone of them has something to offer. I'm only pointing out that after this year... Penske may have a rough row to hoe... When people think of Penske in Nascar they think of Wallace and the #2. It's now on Newman and the 12 to make that spot theirs... lets face it... as long as the 2 car is in that stable with Miller Lite on board... the spot light is theirs... and the expectations for that team will always be huge... And because Roger Penske has allowed the seperation of these teams it will always be like that. There is no doubt that Penske South has the ability to compete with the other multi-car teams... but not if they keep on like they are.

First of all - to clarify - I'm NOT a Penske fan - I think it pathetic that an organization of this caliber cannot get two of the best teams in their sport to work together to better their overall performance. Drivers, Teams, Managers - whatever.
Second - you're right. It is unfair to compare the two - however, since you guys were doing that already, I felt it necessary to point out that the 2 is getting spanked on paper. It doesn't matter how or why - we can all agree that it is NOT driver talent that is the issue - ie. Labonte. But, at the end of it all, when comparing apples to oranges, sometimes you just gotta look at the sales report to see which ones moving faster. That doesn't mean one is better than the other, does it?
BUT - something to think about - From 2001 to the Present: 12 has 11 wins / 2 has 2 wins. You guys do the math.
BTW - I don't see Newman in the 6 - and hope to God that never happens! Nothing against Ryan - I just don't like to root for the guy and the 6 is my car.

Hmm, comparing the 2 to the 12, saying that the 12 is that much greater now, with the argument being that the 12 is younger and the 2 already had his "great" career. Listen, Rusty won his races, he won his cup, and yeah, he had a good career, that great, I don't know. Gordon passed his career wins in how long? This isn't about either of them. I just recently read a story about how Wallace couldn't even agree with Mayfield on a chassis because he didn't want to go modern, his driving style was so much different so all he did was criticize Mayfield and talk shit about him, yet, he admitted in the article that his way was wrong, Mayfield was right, and everything Mayfield said would have put them way ahead of the competition for the time. But what did Wallace do? He got the guy fired. Wallace is nothing more than a whiny little bitch "Oh, the 24 came in and knocked the hell out of my left rear quartpanel". Well Rusty, where I see it, you've been pulling the same move for 20 some odd years, and you do it a lot more violently than that, and when you pull it on anybody else, they applaud you for it, and congratulate you. That is, if they don't spin, if you're spun it's a different story. Hmm, and Tony Stewart getting loose at California a couple years back, slamming Rusty into the wall, then Rusty smacking into him and complaining that Stewart flipped him off? Hell, I'd do the same. Wait, I have a question, how did this get turned into Ryan Newman VS. Rusty Wallace Round 134? Blah, fuck it. If you look at the record, Rusty always fights a losing battle, the guy picks fights with anybody and everybody, especially his teammates who always seem to be the ones who are right. I say ten years from now Ryan will break the record for most poles, and he will also have surpassed Wallace's career wins total chasing Gordon with the most active (Gordon will be 44, no stretch of the imagination there, probably the season entitled "Gordon's last paintjob" or some stupid crap since he's sponsored by Dupont). Well, go Ryan, and just get this last call overwith Rusty.
Now back to what this thing was supposed to be about. Go Kasey Kahne, congratulations on your first victory, I can't believe it finally happened, even though I wanted him to break the record for most second place finishes before his first win, I wanted him to have like 25 or something, haha. That would've been pretty funny. Now that his first win is out of the way, think he'll turn into the next Gordon? I know it took Gordon even longer to get his first win am I right? I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that I'm correct there. Well Trent, I'd love to see a list of your most overrated drivers now. I'm sure Dale Earnhardt Jr. should be on there, and if he's not then the list would be a joke, the only thing he can do is drive people nuts...he's the most horrible driver around in my opinion. Well, maybe you should make a "Post First Quarter Report" with a list of the most overrated drivers. That would be cool Trent. Well, keep up the good work, and the bad spelling, I think it's actually pretty funny that so many people start shit over it, haha. IT'S JUST SPELLING FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! At least you use alright grammar, and funny gangsta talk every now and then. On that note...peace out homie!

You're right the6and9... and please no one take this the wrong way... but for the drivers that are late in their careers... the wins seem to be harder to get... even Dale wasn't pullin in the wins.
I don't think you have to worry aboput Newman in the 6... Boreland signed on for 5 more yrs at Penske... so I think it's pretty safe to say Ryan is staying... he'd be crazy not to.
