There's just something about night racing
Once again we head off Saturday afternoon for another night race. If it were up to me, I would race every Saturday night. I love the feeling you get when the sun goes down and the lights come on. I guess it reminds me of Friday night football in high school. Those were the days. All the excitement and adrenaline I got in high school, I still get now. The only difference is that its much harder to win at this level. I don't want to speak for the fans but I would think a night race is better than day. Its not as hot, the cars look cool under the lights, and the driving usually gets a little bit more intense. Of course, at night the average race fan has a whole day to consume the above average amount of adult beverages. So I don't know if that makes watching the race better or worse. Hopefully this year we can get another night win. We won two years ago at the Richmond night race and usually run good there. We need another strong finish to gain some points and move up in the top 10. Sure don't want to be on the bubble come the second Richmond race. That was the race last year that decided who got in and who didn't. Thank god we got in.

Trent,
I agree with your night racing point of view. I love the night races!! The racing is more intense and the fans are more jacked up!! Put them all on Saturday night, let the teams enjoy some Sundays off!!

I love night races, but I am one of 100s of drivers that spend saturday night at the local short track, spending more than we win trying to bring home a trophy. When Nascar runs on Saturday night we see smaller crowds and we miss seeing the race.Run a few night races?hell yes, after all thats what I got Tivo for in the first place, but to run them all would hurt the very roots that Nascar was born from.

I love the night racing and having a sunday off every now and again. However, I would not want every race to be saturday nights. Then we would be hoping for a sunday race to GET that saturday night off. Mixing it up is best for everyone.

Night racing's great! I'd like to see more of it, especially Atlanta and the Bristol spring race. But Eddie's right, a good mix is what you need.

I agree....you have to have a good mix of both. But having been to a lot of both, the night races kick day races ass every time. As far as the excess of adult beverage....It too is a mix of good & bad. Good Side: you having a damn blast
Bad Side: you're missing a lot laps in the bathroom. Note to self: maybe I should switch to liquor during the race so I don't have that much to get rid of.
Good Luck Sat. night Trent, would like to see you guys get a good finish.

Trent,
Rip off some killer stops and you guys should be sittin' pretty at the end of the night.
GO BLUE DEVILS!
(still haven't thought of anything else, sorry)
Night races ROCK. Sunday races put me to sleep most of the time. I would like to see more night races - BUT - NASCAR should be more selective about which tracks are night races. Like - California? Cali at night does nothing for me. Now, New Hampshire at night would kick ass!
I think a good rule of thumb would be 1 mile or less tracks are run at night - 1.5 and more are run at day. Let the exception be the 600 at Lowe's just to be different.
That would give you a good mix - they're all pretty spread out through the schedule...I like that idea.

Yo 69, What about the Daytona night race??? Don't take that one away from me.
And how about a night road course race??? We could just save the track owners some cash and instead of putting up lights install head lights in the cars. REAL head lights.
That would also cut down on the "bump drafting".

I loves me some night racing, but part of the thrill is that it's different. If every race were run at night, we'd lose a littl of that (not to mention totally screwing the hundreds of short tracks that run on Saturday nights). I like going to the night races more, because I have longer to recuperate from the experience. Fighting traffic for a few hours, then getting ready for work on Monday just sucks.

Uncle Buddy,
My bad! Completely forgot 'bout Daytona! Don't know how that happened - gots to have that one!
Road course???? Man, I've watched a ton of road courses at night and I've got to say - If you really want to see that then watch the Rolex series or FIA, because it ain't that great, IMO. Unless you're watching Daytona or Sebring where they have a GREAT lighting system - you can't see shit except brake lights. Our road courses (which, btw, I happen to think are good racing) suffer enough critisism without being subjected to night runs.
Can you imagine how long a caution would last while they clean up glass from broken headlights when Robby Gordon (my boy!) jacks up the back of Boris Said going into turn 11 @ the Glen?
And I seriously doubt that the short tracks across America would suffer THAT much, if they added a few more night dates. Maybe a few in the general vicinities of Cup races - I really shouldn't get into that 'cause I don't know that much about it.
I still think there's not enough night racing though.

If you want to see a good night race, pick up your paper, find your local track and go.I promise you will have a great time, just pick a number or a car and root away.

I agree that a good mix of night and day races it best. But I would also have to agree that night races are 100 times better. More intense. More exciting. More fun to watch. I personally like watching the cars rub the pavement around turns during night races. Something about those sparks is awesome.
Don't laugh but I have a question. Who is Trent and who does he race for? I'm new to this so I don't know yet. Thanks.

OK, nevermind about the question about who Trent is. I just read the About Me section and found out. Sorry!

Hostage I have to agree with you on the local tracks. I have taken my family to our local track several times and it is pretty awesome.
