Bush at the #2
I'm not going to lie, I had no idea this was coming. I was surprised as anyone when I heard about Bush. Next year should be interesting. Personally, I don't think it was a bad move at all, but then again I don't know Kurt or the situation behind the scenes. So I guess only time will tell. Who ever steps into the #2 car is going to have good cars, pit crew, and equipment to work with. Should make for a good year.

Trent, how well do Ryan and Kurt Busch get along? Do you think they'll work well together as teammates?
I am surprised, I honestly felt like it was going to be Casey Mears in the #2. I never even knew that Kurt was even remotley thinking about leaving Roush. I am a fan of Newman so I hope somehow this benefits him.

Wow - glad to see I'm not the only one suprised by this one! We've heard how Matt Kenseth wasn't that happy at Roush, and I'd hoped he would be the one making the move. Matt and Ryan seem to get along well, and it would have been great to see them as teammates. Personally, I don't have anything against Kurt - so hopefully he'll made a good addition to PRS. It will be interesting to see how things work out for 2006!
Just one thing though....Trent, you're going to have to learn to spell the new teammate's last name!...Busch...just pickin' on ya a little! :o)

I wonder what Ryan thinks about the whole deal.
I'll still root for Ryan, but not for Busch.

All I can say is, if you thought Rusty had problems with Borland not sharing info, just wait until hot head Busch gets there. Trent, you'd better make sure that Matt plays nice with Kurt or else I can see Kurt putting that 12 car into the wall a time or two.
Honestly I don't know why Kurt would leave Roush for a place that he knows he won't get any help from his "teammate." But then again Kurt is pretty cocky. Maybe he thinks that he doesn't need any help. It will be interesting to see how this deal plays out.

All I can say is ...
Wow!

"sometime you have to adjust the car, and sometimes you just have to drive around it"
This is close to a quote I heard from Kurt in march 2001, just prior 2 his first cup win at bristol.(Iamprettysureonthefact)Anyway, I thought that was a very profound statement comming from a snot nose kid. He got my attention that weekend. It will be easy to root for him in the 2 car. Wonder if Miller had any imput, or are they going away?

KEN
HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT MATT WONT SHARE INFO WITH KURTS TEAM. IT SEEMS YOUR PUTTING ALL THE BLAME ON THE 12 TEAM AND NOT WITH RUSTY. FROM WHAT IVE HEARD AND READ RUSTY IS HELL TO GET ALONG WITH ANYWAY AND HE TELLS HIS TEAM HOW HE WANTS HIS CAR RATHER THAN GAINING INPUT FROM OTHERS ON HIS TEAM. I HEARD HES SOMETHING OF A DICTATOR RATHER THAN A TEAM PLAYER. PERSONALLY I DONT SEE RYAN AND KURT NOT GETTING ALONG. I THINK THEY WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM SHARING INFO. IF IM NOT MISTAKEN DOESNT THE 12 TEAM SHARE INFO WITH KVAPIL'S TEAM (SP)? IFTHAT IS SO THAT DEFINETELY TELLS ME IT HAS MORE TO DO WITH RUSTY THAN WITH THE 12 TEAM
Posted by: misterschmo | Aug 9, 2005 3:52:07 PM
Yeah, the #12 and #77 share info.
Posted by: 19Jay12 | Aug 9, 2005 4:30:07 PM
77 needs more the info he needs a miracle.
I do hope things work well with Ryan and Kurt.

I agree with Janelle- I was hoping for Matt to move to the #2. Didn't see this move coming. Something had to have happened. What about Kurt's crew chief? Are they a package deal? Goes to show, you just don't know what's going on behind the scenes.

Trent,
From an outsiders view, it seems as though Kurt is not well liked by many fans and drivers. I hope for your sake that it's all on the surface and you don't revert back to the closed book policy and teammate rift that seems to currently exist with Ryan and Rusty. With the "multi-team" format starting to become a necessity..it could be a big obstacle towards trying to get that 1st championship. What do you think?
Posted by: Kscott | Aug 9, 2005 5:31:36 PM
as probably one of 4 busch fans that read this blog, i have to throw my 2 cents in...
first, i doubt fennig moves over with kurt. he's already talking about 2006 being his last year. he's ready to slow down and go fishing or something.
second, i'm looking forward to ryan and kurt being on the same team, more or less. say what you will, kurt knows how to drive a car and how to break it down on the tech side. i think he'll fit in quite well with brainiacs like borland and newman.
now comes the hard part: i don't like miller lite. if we were talking miller high life it'd be a different story, but how the crap am i going to wear a hat for a beer i don't drink?

While as shocked and stunned as anyone to hear that Kurt will be leaving Roush I'm certain that he's going into a good situation with Penske.
I hope that the 2 and 12 teams will have a productive future working together.

I hope Roger is having the doors widened so kurt can pass thru them without damaging those elephant ears he's got. if the truth be known roush has had it with his antics. he's no champion. he's not worthy to be a pimple on dale earnhardts ass.
Posted by: scott | Aug 9, 2005 5:46:26 PM
"roush has had it with his antics"?
i think i'm gonna call bs on that one. got an article or anything you can back it up with?
tony stewart won the championship in 2002 and had a meltdown or two (or three) in 2003, nevermind all the spots he was in before then...i'm assuming that you would say he's no champion either, right?
(i'm not trying to throw smoke under the bus...just using an example.)

Add me to the list of people suprised about this. I thought for sure when I saw the headline "Busch Leaves Roush" he was signing with DEI. According to USA Today, Ryan said "Kurt Busch is a great driver and I am looking forward to having him as a teammate and working with him." I hope Roush lets him off for 2006, maybe Chip will follow suit.

Ok, I have a concern about this whole Kurt thing and I think its the same concern alot of you guys have. Ive know Ryan for 5 years now. I know how he drives and how he acts. I can either see him and Busch really getting along or this could be another long year. I know that is kind of either or but the truth is there alot a like. They both want to win, they both come across as cocky, and they both can drive a race car. Wether or not they can compete as teamates I dont know, I guess we'll all have to wait until next year.
Posted by: trent | Aug 9, 2005 8:05:46 PM
Half of me wants to throw up, the other half is trying to figure out how (as a die-hard Penske fan) am I gonna find a way to pull for a guy who looks, acts and talks like an absolute prick?
I dunno... got real mixed feelings about this. Kurt is a solid wheelman, no doubt... but nobody likes him. I mean NOBODY. Take a walk by his souvenir rig before any race... you can usually count the folks on one hand. But that's not even the point... there are plenty of decent drivers with little or no significant following. But Kurt is HATED by a sizable group of folks -- and it isn't just from one rival driver's camp... it comes from across the board!
I wish him well and I'm gonna pull for him as Ryan's teamate, but I sure hope to hell he uses this opportunity to recast himself. Plus, say what you will about Rusty... but he's got a TON of loyal fans that probably don't know who they will be pulling for next year. I suspect this doesn't make it any easier.

I think that Kurt and Ryan will do great together and the Penske boys will end up with some victories under their belts again. This whole deal with the secret notes and whatnot is only hurting the teams, although I'll admit I wouldnt want to try to help anyone out who goes out of his way to talk smack about me every opportunity he got either, but come on, who is it helping out? NO ONE. Kurt's coming from a stable where all of the teams are sharing information and "secrets" and obviously he thinkgs Penske is a Championship caliber organization and that he and Ryan can get the organization the recognition and respect it deserves.
Ryan and Kurt are numbers 1 and 2 in my book so I'm thrilled to death about this.

I have been a huge Rusty fan since '93 and never have like Kurt but I think that Roger P. and Don M. made a very smart move in getting him and I also think that Jack R. needs to let him go after '05 to show Chip G. the way to do the right thing with Jamie M.
GO KURT

I dunno, I just dunno..I like Kurt..but I just don't understand...hmmm, will just have to wait and see.

Wether or not they can compete as teamates I dont know, I guess we'll all have to wait until next year. <-- Trent, is that a slip?...next year?...or 2007?...
Hemi - I don't think EVERYONE hates KB...I've met him twice (yes, I stood in line to get his autograph)...and I don't think he's as arrogant in person as he comes across on tv...I don't believe he's totally disliked.

I agree with all that I have read. I have the feeling from reading other sites that either Miller or Dodge (probably Dodge)threw so much money at Kurt, that he had to say yes, and announce it "NOW". I'm hearing dodge was quite bitter in the way they lost McMurray. They had 3 young studs in RYAN, KASEY, and JAMIE. I don't care for KURT at all. After the Spencer "misunderstanding" and then he wrecked Sterling who was in 3rd en route to his 1st win. Even though I admit I don't like him..This is a stupid move. He is 5th in the points! He has rallied back, & to pull this now. This can destroy a TEAM! MILLER or DODGE or PENSKE wanted this to happen. They could have waited until DEC. to announce. I'll bet when terms of the contract are leaked WE WILL ALL GO "WOW". I just hope it is worth enough $$$ to justify TORPEDOEING (sp?) a chance at consecutive Nextel Cup Championships.
Like those old cop shows say...
Follow the money

Has anybody thought about the ties that both Penske and Felix Sabates have? Both are owners of NASCAR teams and IRL teams. Isn't it possible that they are trying to work together to make the Dodge teams better while taking down JR? I'm a big Roush fan, but I am a loyal Kurt Busch fan. I hope that the 3 PRS teams do well in the future, and I can't wait to see what the rest of silly season does. Its not going to be boring!
