"The Brickyard 400 is more than just a race," Newman said. "I grew up with Indy being everything. I'm sure if you ask Tony [Stewart] or Jeff [Gordon] or anyone else who cut their teeth racing in Indiana they'd say the same thing. It's like the Taj Mahal for us. The history of the track. The racing legends who have raced there before. You can feel it when you enter.
"I want this race more than any other. Not just for myself, but for the Alltel team, for my family and friends who all live in Indiana and of course for Roger Penske. He needs that stock car victory at the Brickyard and I'd like nothing more than to be the one to get it for him."
sounds like you boys got to be on your A game this week, bro. Good luck with it.

Is that shark named Hendrick or Roush?
;-)

Neil,
I'm obviously a big #12 fan, but Newman's most recent statment kind of contidicts the one you posted,
"Everybody thinks because you're home it's supposed to be something special," Newman said Friday. "It's special, but not as special as everybody seems to think it is. I look at it as a coincidence I was born and raised in Indiana.
"The track is special to me because of my appreciation of auto racing and its past, whether it's about the open-wheeled roadsters back in the 60s or thinking about watching (Dale) Earnhardt or (Jeff) Gordon coming around here."
Much is being made this weekend, as it is every year here, about the Indiana backgrounds of drivers like Newman, Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart.
"Gordon is not a Hoosier," Newman said. "He's just not proud of being from San Francisco."
I love the Gordon crack, thats priceless!
