Somebody just aint livin right
I'm sure there are as many people out there happy as there are sad that we are running so poorly. When you win alot like we did two years ago you gain alot of fans and also alot of enemies. If we don't start running right were gonna be watching the final ten from the side. I just got in from the race and it feels like someone punched me in the stomach. I guess I'm a little bit spoiled in the fact that we usually don't put together this many bad weeks. It's not just one area, it's all of us. We just take turns screwing up. Today it was the transmission. Somebodies just not livin right on our team. We need a luck changer and we need one bad. With four races left I would really like to go to Richmond with some kind of security. I guess its time to stop making excuses and start getting results.

Keep in mind Trent that the team is closer to 6th than you are 10th. It looked like today that a lot of teams took it on the chin. The best saving grace is that the road course drivers finished where they did (along with a lot of others that are COMPLETELY out of the chase).
We're pullin for ya m'boy!

Trent...I don't know what to say, other than just know the true 12 fans are still behind you guys...we KNOW the Alltel team's performance is better than the past few weeks have shown...and we're waitin' for the turnaround!...there will be a big group of us 12 fans at MIS next weekend cheerin' for the first victory of '05!...Good luck and stay focused forward!

Trent...roll up your sleeves and bust out of this funk w/an attitude. Hell, the 20 team has been unbeatable ever since they stumbled across that flag a couple of months ago that said, "The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves." As a fan, you can't make this stuff up any better...123 pts from 8th to 14th with 4 races to decide who goes for all the marbles. STEP UP! You gotta love it.

Well, Trent, I became a fan in 2002 when Ryan won the Winston, and I've stayed a fan since. This year has been frustrating as hell, but I know you guys will win a few and make the Chase before it's over with. Don't worry, the real fans are still behind you!

Maybe if Ryan wasn't being such a DICK about Rusty, your luck would turn around. It seems to me that working with the #2 team would probably help about now since they're kicking your ASS week in and week out. Suck it up boys!

Doesn't matter Trent, I'm still pullin for ya's.
Ryan could come in 40th and it wouldn't matter to me. His personality is a winner for this fan. As long as the team gives their all that's all that matters in my books!
Just keep on given er' and you will come out a winner.

Dave,
You must be smoking crack this morning!!!!!
If Rusty is such a BIGGGGGGGG Help? Then why the hell is Travis running sooooooo poorly? Isn't it Rusty who is sharing "everything" with him? Let's face it. Rusty is only providing a "lip service" and he is really not helping anyone at all. It's called "faking it", and Rusty is very good at that. You can think what you want, but the Truth of the matter is, that Rusty is helping only Rusty and that's the way is has ALWAYS been.

As a fan of PRS in general... I don't like the digs at either driver... all I can say is it takes 2 to tango... and BOTH Wallace and Newman have had shity attitudes towards each other...
This past couple of weeks... the 12 team has been off... shit happens... but I know they will be there at the end when it counts... drivers and crews at PRS don't know the meaning of "can't do" this is what makes then a top notch orginazation... these last 4 races.. aren't about getting poles... or even winning... its about being able to stay consistant and top 10 finishes... A win for any driver at PRS would be great right about now... but those wins can wait for the last 10 races...
........HEADS UP 12 TEAM........
as for the comments about it all being about Wallace... you're dead on... BUT that doesn't mean he hasn't helped that 12 team out in the past... there will be no way anyone convices me that Wallace has been a piss poor team mate for the ENTIRE 5 yrs Newman has been with PRS... The past 2 yrs yes... but not the entire 5 yrs... I was reading up on a comment Ryan made last year... about him not needing advice... well in my experience any good advice a person can get whether it be personal or work related is always a good thing. No matter where a person is in their career... there is ALWAYS room for improvement...

The only team I recall Rusty helping was entire Nextel garage in 2003 when he blabbed to EVERYONE about how Ryan was winning on mileage.
No wonder why Matt and Ryan want to be distanced from the Crusty one. You only need to be burned once.
Posted by: Mr Mom | Aug 15, 2005 9:48:10 AM
BlueDeuce,
Believe it or not, I do agree with you. It does take two to tango, and yes BOTH Rusty and Ryan are to blame for there bad relationship. I'm sure that they have both done things to each other that would not be considered good teammate material. The big difference is......one is much more vocal in the public about it then the other.
The reason for my outburst toward DAVE, is that I am soooooooooo sick and tired of most (not all) Rusty fans blaming ALL of there problems on Ryan.
I have to say that you are probably one of the only objective Rusty fans that I have seen on the matter. Kudos to you !!!
Being the curious person that I am. I would however like to see if DAVE (ya know, the one with the bad attitude) can even remotely attempt to answer the questions I posed to him? You know, with real answers?
You're right. There is always room for improvement.

Hey Trent, You guys will get stuff back in order. I don't much care for Kurt Busch but if he and Ryan are looking forward to being teammates, then it can only help the situation.
As far as how you guys have been running the past several weeks, man, bad luck hits every team at one time or another. The 12 team has stayed intact pretty much for several years now and you guys DEFINITELY know how to win. It'll happen and true fans will be fans through the good and bad.
I have been a huge fan of Sterling Marlin for MANY years and look how bad things have been for him the past couple years. I'm still a big fan.
Things will come back together. Good luck at Michigan, you guys can get it done there for sure.

Hey Trent!!
Think how good it is good have a bad skid and still be well in the chase. Yes, the wiggle room is shrinking. Michigan will be a good place to get healthy. I agree with a couple of the others that attitude is gotta improve. Hey, by your post you dreaded this last weekend. The positive frame has got to return. NOW....is the time to starting finishing well. Go foreward in all that you do, it'll shake up!
Posted by: Larry | Aug 15, 2005 11:01:50 AM
how good it is to have a bad skid
oops, I'll preview next time
Posted by: Larry | Aug 15, 2005 11:03:54 AM
DAve,
it's about time the #2 team runs better than the #12. THis is the first time in Newman's career he's ever been behind Rusty in the standings. And this weekend was the first time in months Ryan has said anything about his relationship with Rusty. Any chance RUsty gets, he rags on Ryan.
Posted by: 19Jay12 | Aug 15, 2005 11:06:17 AM
Is anyone other than me getting pretty tired of the Rusty v Ryan schtick? Looks like both might well be in the chase, so let's let them go at it on the track for a few more weeks. Then we can take a few weeks off until the debate starts about who else is/isn't sharing what with whom!
Posted by: Doug | Aug 15, 2005 11:16:38 AM
Ann... the reason Walllace is more vocal is because that is his personality... just like Newman's is being quiet and laid back... I've followed Wallace's career from the get go... and him running his mouth is nothing new... a fan has to realize that drivers are human also.. and make mistakes like the rest of us... I don't judge drivers by their personalities...I judge by the talent... And as much as I don't like thinking this.. I think Ryan will be getting the short end of the stick when Kurt comes on board... if the rumor is correct on the price they paid for Kurt... you can bet PRS will be pouring everything they have into making sure he wins! Something they haven't done for the 77

I cant stand the Rusty Vs. Rayn Shit, i cant wait for rusty to retire not cuase i hate him but i wont have to listen to this BS anymore!!
Anyway TRENT Keep your heads up, you guys are an awesome team and i know you will pull a win out soon.

Ah come on Steph. and Doug, you know you and almost everyone else will read an article headlined Rusty vs. Ryan. Yeah it has gotten old over the past few months, but it's interesting how two teammates can get along so poorly.
BlueDeuce, I hope you're wrong when you said that Ryan will be getting the short end of the stick when Kurt's there. Hopefully, Kurt and Ryan can run up front together, alot like Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson did last year.

Well Ann, let me answer a few of the questions you've asked. First, you said yourself that Rusty is sharing with Travis. I agree that it's not helping, but that doesn't mean the information is bad, only the execution. It's also obvious that Ryan is not helping Travis, or Rusty, so it's easy to draw the conclusion that Ryan and his crew are more of the problem when it comes to the lack of communication. As far as "faking" it, that is something Rusty has never been known to do. He always speaks his mind, which is why people always bitch about him. I also HOPE he's in it for himself, that's what Miller Brewing is sponsoring him for. One reason Rusty is running better that Ryan is the switch to softer tires and shorter spoilers. Rusty ran most of his career under those conditions, Ryan has not, and seems to be having problems adapting to it. Only a fool would not seek that knowledge. Also, I agree with BlueDeuce on the difference in personality being the reason for the way they handle it. Rusty doesn't have the problem talking that Ryan seems to have(which, by the way, has made Rusty the best guy in Cup as far as wooing the sponsers; I don't see them lining up for "Mr. Bland" Newman). My biggest problem with Newman is this know-it-all attitude his team has, when basically he's done squat.
Happy?

One more thing. The brother of a friend of mine is married to Roger Penske's daughter. Much of the info on the Rusty/Ryan problem comes from him, so I'd say I speak from a more solid place.
Posted by: Dave | Aug 15, 2005 4:22:04 PM
Dave,
You've made a good point about the about the tire and spoilers.
You are wrong about Ryan not helping Travis though. Travis has said several times that Ryan does in fact help him out.
BlueDeuce,
No offense, but I hope you end up being wrong about Ryan getting the short end of the stick when he and Kurt become teammates. Like 19Jay12, I hope they can run up front together, and I hope they turn out to be good teammates.
Trent,
One of the best qualities Team Alltel has is a "can do" attitude. You guys don't know the meaning of the word "quit". So hang in there. Keep fighting hard. It'll turn around.
Posted by: Ann | Aug 15, 2005 4:34:41 PM
Actually DAve, Ryan hasn't had any trouble lining up sponsorship. I don't think Alltel, Mobil 1, Gilette, Sony Wega, Gatorade, Polaris (there's more that I can't think of) would stick around if they weren't happy with him. To call someone bland because their personality isn't outgoing is very judgemental. If everyone ran their mouth like Rusty, the sport would be rather boring wouldn't ya say. And since you're such an expert on Penske Racing, is it just coincidence that this is the second teammate that Rusty hasn't gotten along with? He couldn't get along with Jeremy Mayfield either. And Mayfield has had no trouble getting along with Bill Elliott and Kasey Kahne. Don't you not see a pattern here?
Posted by: 19Jay12 | Aug 15, 2005 4:42:20 PM
I type too fast. The last sentence should ask Do you not see a pattern here?
Posted by: 19Jay12 | Aug 15, 2005 4:44:33 PM
19Jay12, I'm not saying Ryan had nothing to do lining up any of those sponsors, but many were there before he was known. Alltel was brought on by Penske when the team was formed, Mobil has been there forever, Gilette because he's lumped in to the "Young Gun" category, who DOESN'T Gatorade sponsor, etc. And yes, I AM being judgemental, because NASCAR is my favorite form of entertainment and Newman does not appeal to me. Give me a Tony or a Rusty or even a Harvick; drivers who show how much they love what they do and have a passion that spills over to the fans(good or bad). I'm not alone in this, you have to look long and hard for a Newman t-shirt at any race. I'm just saying that for the most part(with the exception of this blog, obviously:-) Newman is not a driver that people feel that strongly about. Similar to Busch, who I can't believe Miller thinks can compete with Jr and Bud. KURT BUSCH!?! Guy makes me think of rice cakes. Gimme some "damns", some "hells", a few "hot rods" and 1 or 2 "killers" and now I'm happy!
Posted by: Dave | Aug 15, 2005 5:08:21 PM
Oh, and by the way, both Rusty and Jeremy have since become good friends and both say the problem wasn't with them, but with the management at PRS. I find that fact interesting.
