Kurt vs. the cops
I m sure by now all race fans have heard about the whole Kurt Bush thing. I think, like most of the pit crew guys, I heard early Sunday morning that Kurt Bush would not be driving the 97 for the rest of the year. The first thing I thought was what in the hell could he have done to be pulled for the next two races. So as the day went on the stories got better. One minute he was driving drunk the next he was hitting a cop and so on. I dont know what went on and I really don't think anyone but the cop and Kurt really know. I will say this about the whole situation. Everyone says that drivers get special treatment and that they think they are different because of there status and income. I can agree to that a little bit, but on the flip side cops are not much different. They were a uniform and demand respect from everyone whether there in the right or the wrong. Many times this year we have been threatened by cops if we don't abide by there commands even when there wrong. Most of this happens when we are leaving the track and have to catch a flight or we just want to get in the track and they want to send us around in circles just to show that they have the power to do so. So before everyone jumps on Kurt's back about what did or did not happen, just realize he s not the only one in this situation that might be seeing how much he can away with. I don't know all the facts and I don't really care, but sometimes a badge and uniform can be as bad as a fire suit and big salary.

Trent,
Excellent comments, I couldn't agree with you more. Clearly, we haven't heard the entire story of the incident. Kurt was definately in the wrong. However, the sheriff and his department have been under scrutiny for many years now and there is a push to have him recalled as sheriff. The stories from both sides are very shady.
While there are many men and women police officers who do great things every day protecting and serving, there are also many who exploit the power and abuse the system and do their best to be jerks. I have come across both in my life time. So, when you hear of an incident like Kurt's, it's hard to know what the true story is.

Kenny said that he'd never driven a car with THAT much horsepower and THAT much torque. He said everytime he put his foot on the pedal it just slid the car sideways. Obviously, Kurt doesn't have that problem with his race cars, which begs the question - "How much drag do those big ass ears create, anyway?"
Must be like drivin a parachute...

^^ Oh man...now that's funny and I dont care who said it ^^
When I used to watch the races with my friend and his dad, his dad always refered to Kurt as "ears" and his brother as "teeth". Gosh we're mean people....

I'm telling you that trying to use a faked Disney World employee pass meant for Dumbo caused this fracas. Everyone knows Dumbo can't drive while most of us just accuse Kurt of the same. But yeah this Sheriff just seems to be a little too gung ho to get his name in the press. Also Jack was just looking for a way to stick that knife back into Kurt. Even though he basically did the same to Ganassi. Personnaly the only thing I see Roush doing for the sport is lining his pockets. And I have a hard time believing a 120lb whimp is NASCAR's new bad boy. Just for prides sake NASCAR should put a big driver in a car, have him put someone in the fence and then get out, climb the fence and beat up a fan (staged of course). At least they wouldn't have a whimpy bad guy!

When will thread turn into a Penske/Newman bash?
As all your posts do.
By the way, GREAT points.

I know this has nothing to do with pretty much anything in here, but I thought I would share this with ya'll cause I got a good laugh out of it....
A lawyer from New York City runs a stop sign and gets pulled over by a
South Carolina State Trooper.
Being from New York, he thinks that he is smarter than the Trooper because
he is sure that he has a better education. He decides to prove this to
himself and have some fun at the Trooper's expense...
Trooper says, "License and registration, please."
Lawyer says, "What for?"
Trooper says, "You didn't come to a complete stop at the stop sign."
Lawyer says, "I slowed down, and no one was coming."
Trooper says, "You still didn't come to a complete stop. License and
registration, please."
Lawyer says, "What's the difference?"
Trooper says, "The difference is, you have to come to a complete stop,
that's the law. License and registration, please!"
Lawyer says, "If you can show me the difference between slow down and
stop, I'll give you my license and registration and you give me the
ticket, if not you let me go and no ticket."
Trooper says, "All right then Sir, exit your vehicle please."
At this point, the Trooper takes out his nightstick and starts beating the
hell out of the lawyer and says:
"Do you want me to stop, or just slow down?"
And the yankee's call us dumb.....

When Jimmy Spenser slapped him around, he called for the cops to come and take action.Well be careful what you wish for.

Just a thought.. Kurt Busch and Mike Hunt as cell mates??????????
Posted by: joe | Nov 14, 2005 5:19:50 PM
Eddie Valiant would have got him to take the roadside breathalyzer.
And then went home and had a stiff drink and contemplated the absurdity of just having give a drunk elephant a DWI.

I'm not a Kurt Busch fan,nor am I a big fan of "most cops".As I sit here I can't think of one time Kurt Busch's ego ever harmed me,looked down on me or anything else that I may find offensive. I can't say the same about the police.

Wilie,
Kinda scary isn't it? Trents blog usually kinda ends up in a "Your Mama"/"Don't you be talkin' bout my Mama" scenerio. He's probably enjoying the peace...LOL

Hey, is Jack Roush a total dick or what? I'm not gonna defend Kurt or the cops -- we'll never know the full truth anyway. But what a weasel Roush is... taking a dump on a guy that - for all we know - did nothing more than argue a ticket. I don't care whether you like Kurt or think he's the worst champ we've ever had... this is a new embarrassing low for the entire sport, and Roush shares as much of the blame as anyone, IMHO.

Hey Trent !
Expected to see major Busch bashing. Glad to see that is not {yet} totally the case. There shall be plenty of time for that. Was glad 2 see the Captain offer support. Hope that is also the case with Miller. Despain was also very sceptical of the deal. I am hoping this will be another growing pain for KB. I also hope to see him become a growing pain for the field while driving the 2 car. While I am wishing, it would be cool to see some teamwork in the organization.
Med/good job sunday. Know that you are in a good mood after sat football.
Will you be baaack with the blog next season?

Jen S.:
"Im just waiting to see his mug-shot on "smoking gun"! hahaha..."
I'm waiting to see the cops on dash camera footage. Someone will be eating a feces sandwich if it ever gets released.
And if it doesn't it calls into question the entire incident doesn't it?

HAHA - Marc actually used the word "feces" in a comment!
Priceless!

I think we all can agree that Kurt Busch would not have been released if he were not leaving next year. However if Kurt Busch would have shown Jack Roush the same loyalty Jack showed him early on in this career things would be different. Nice to see Penske back his new man but I would expect nothing less because of the amount of sponsorship dollars involved.
Chief,
There is no question that Kurt left for Penske for the money. Jack Roush has brought more safety innovations to this sport in the last ten years than any other team. What are Misters Childress, Ganassi, Penske, Hendrick, Petty and Yates doing, going to the poor house? Don’t hate the player, hate the game. Jack Roush is the best player the last couple of seasons.

Kurt was wrong for driving crazy, but wasn't proven that he was drunk? And yes, there probably was a dash camera? Which would/could/should prove the Cops story??? One would think they'd wanta show it?? Breathalizer failing, seems strange?? Jack Roush, would he have canned him if he were still his driver? Or would he have been behind him? I think he would have raced Sunday if he wasn't going to Penske next season...Lot of what if's????
And by the way.... I've been a Cop since 91 and all of us are not bad people, some of us are good folks....
Not a Jr. fan, but he said it best... He made a mistake, if he was drinking and driving, it was a bad choice, maybe he'll learn something and get it back together and can show others what bad choices can do and perhaps something good will come from this bad situation...... Good quote from Jr.....hopefully something GOOD will come out of it...

He probably blew a .017 from brushing his teeth and rinsing with Scope. This is such a railroad job.
My question is, does Kurt get to drive the 97 in NYC? I hope so! It would be poetic for him to "bump" the car in front of him, and/or sideswipe a bus on the way to the Waldorf...
Posted by: Mr. Mom | Nov 14, 2005 9:45:28 PM
Scope, indeed.
They pulled him over for suspicion of DUI. He either failed a field sobriety test or the officer smelled alcohol on his breath. The breathalyzer at the police station failed, so they had no hard evidence with which to pursue a DUI charge, so the charge was reckless driving. Who knows, maybe the cop was doing Busch a favor by taking him to the station rather than risking drawing a crowd and embarrasing Busch?
The fact of the matter is, Jack Rousch and Crown Royal (can't recall the name of the parent company) and Irwin made their decisions based on better information than any of us have. Don't second-guess based on third-hand information.
Relax, Maricopa Co. is one of the COPS mainstays... we'll probably see Kurt on COPS next season. :)
I can't wait to see what Kenny Wallace does with his own seat, suit, and helmet and a week of working with the 97 crew.
Posted by: Runs-With-Scissors | Nov 14, 2005 10:57:58 PM
And who knows? Maybe the cop is a Jimmy Spencer fan.
Posted by: Runs-With-Scissors | Nov 14, 2005 11:02:20 PM
My question is this...How many people do you know that lose their job for a traffic citation? I can't think of one.
Posted by: Jane | Nov 14, 2005 11:13:29 PM
Runs - Am I missing something? Maricopa Sheriff Joe Arpaio told the entire WORLD on Claire B. Lang's show today that Kurt passed a field breathalizer with a .017, and that a second test was now actually needed. This entire DUI/DWI story is horseshit! And Maricopa county knows it. It's just another way for Joe Arpaio to get more press.
Posted by: Mr Mom | Nov 14, 2005 11:30:39 PM
"NOT actually needed" is the phrase I ws looking for.
