A couple of thoughts
Its been a while since my last post so I thought I would get caught up on some things. Last weekend at Bristol was a good night for us. We had a really good car and had great pit stops all night. The only problem I have with Bristol is that you cant really gain spots in the pits towards the end of the race because all the lap down cars are between you and the guys your running with. When you enter pit road the next guy back is 10 car lengths. I wish Nascar would make all lap down cars move out of the way before the pits are open and let the lead lap cars get nose to tail. Not that it would have made a difference but it would have made it better competition on pit road. Besides that I thought it was a good race.
Looking forward to California. This is one of the races I really don't look forward to. Long flights, lots of jet lag, and we haven't run well this year at all. Hopefully we have found some stuff in the last couple of weeks that can help us. Being obvious that we arnt making the chase we can start to work on some things that can help for next year and take more chances with stuff this year. This is the first time since I joined the team that we wont be in the top 10 at the end of the season and I think its a good reminder of how tuff this league really is. Its a good reminder to everyone involved in the sport that making the chase is going to get harder and harder every year. Its not a given that anyone makes it and nothing is guaranteed. With all that said, I still enjoy watching the guys that are trying to make it race. OK, that all for me.

Hey Trent - its good to see your posting! Its most definately disappointing for your team (and us fans!) not to see the 12 in the Chase this year - but don't give up just yet! There are still 12 more races to get the 12 a victory - and that 11th place to fight for! Good luck in CA - that Sony HD car is really sharp looking, it'd be great to see it in VL on Sunday!

Tough year Trent, but it ain't over yet. Still some spots to gain before Homestead, hope you can enjoy it with the stress of the Chase over. Hope you guys see Victory lane before the year is out, your still contenders to win. Go Gett'em

Bristol was a good night, Newman had a car capable of a top five. It seems that the 12 team is strong on the short tracks, road courses, and restrictor plates. If those guys can just find the balance on the 1.5 to 2 mile intermediate speedways, then Newman and the 12 team would be just fine. Anyway, Newman ran near the top ten at Michigan until he got a hole in the radiator, so maybe if he can catch a break at Cali. he could pull off a good finish.

In the races, it seems like your cars are getting closer to where they need to be. They're not there yet, but I see small improvements. How close do you think you guys are to getting the handle back on the intermediates?

Good Luck in California this weekend Trent!!! We know you guys havent' given up and us 12 fans have not given up on you.

Trent,
I was wondering if Ryan, or anyone else on the team, has brought up that telling statement he made to Carl Edwards after Richmond last year?
Carl said something like 'Man that was the toughest thing' referring to getting into the chase. Then Ryan said "Just wait until it's expected".
Although not a fan, I really respect Ryan's abilities, except when he won't move out of the way of when he is a lapped car. Good Luck the rest of the year.

Hey Trent,
It is good 2 hear from you.
Good job at Bristol. A finish like that would be good at Cali.
Keep diggin'

I would really be interested in knowing who was responasible for fighting with the Charger and keep working on the Intrepid. It seems to me that is what put this whole team behind. KB has done OK with the charger considering new team, new car, etc.
Good luck next year. New Car Again maybe?

328 there were alot of people that had to do with that decision. Everyone wants to point to one person but it wasn't just one person.

Hey Trent. Good to see you posting. We 12 fans know it's been a very frustrating season for all of you. Yeah, you're not in the chase this season. So what? It's one season. All drivers/teams have seasons like yours from time to time. We fans definitely know that is not for a lack of trying.
It's not over til it's over. Tweleve more races to go. You can still end up with a win or two, and advance your position.
As always....Best of luck at California.

Glad to hear from you, Trent.
Its been a rough year for you guys, but I'm confident that next year the 12 will be right back in contention.

Darklordpapa, Rusty rode Ryans Coattails into the chase, if he had stuck around one more year, he and Dale Jarret would be neck and neck.

MoparDave,
Yeah, the 55 race-winning Cup Champ rode the coattails of a guy who's claim to fame is he wins a lot of poles.
Except he can't even do that anymore.
Sure.

Trent, I bet it is a long trip and a long weekend when traveling to the west coast. But maybe another top 10, or a win would make the trip a little easier.
At least you'll be close to home next weekend.
Good luck this weekend and the rest of the season.

Just a quick stat for darklordpapa
Since 2002, Newman- 12 wins, Wallace- 1 win
Posted by: 12jay | Aug 31, 2006 1:19:41 PM
Wallace had 10 wins in his first 5 years(compared to 12 for Newman), but won 6 races and contended for a championship in his 5th(1988-2nd to Elliott). Won the title in 1989.
Newman had 8 wins in 2003, only 3 in the next three, including 0 this year(more than likely to stay that way as horrible as he's running). At least Rusty started slowing down in his mid-late forties, not in the prime of his career.
Don't try stats, Rusty blows Newman away in every conceivable way.
Posted by: darklordpapa | Aug 31, 2006 2:13:25 PM
Dark,
You trying to compare Rusty's first years in the dark ages compared with Ryan first with the the amount of competition and resources these teams have? That 's pretty unfair to both. When they were teammates Ryan blew the Rusty off the track in wins, top 5's , top 10's and yes, POLES. No one cares what Rusty did back when they had one minute pit stops. Things are a little tougher these days.

Darklordpapa,
Rusty has had 20 years on Ryan...you can't compare the volume of statistics...
Actually, you cannot even compare their first 5 years of racing (I see why you want too...that fifth year was a big year for Rusty) because Ryan hasn't completed his fifth full season left..we still have 12 races, which is a third of the season. But lets compare the two in their first four years...shall we?
Rusty:
1984: 0 wins, 2 top fives, 4 top tens, finished 14th.
1985: 0 wins, 2 top fives, 8 top tens, finished 19th.
1986: 2 wins, 4 top fives, 16 top tens, finished 6th.
1987: 2 wins, 9 top fives, 16 top tens, finished 5th.
In Rusty's first four full seasons he had 4 wins, 17 top fives, and 44 top tens, with an average finish of 11th in the standings..
Ryan:
2002: 1 win, 14 top fives, 22 top tens. Finished 6th.
2003: 8 wins, 17 top fives, 22 top tens. Finished 6th.
2004: 2 wins, 11 top fives, 14 top tens. Finished 7th.
2005: 1 win, 8 top fives, 16 top tens, finished 6th.
In Ryan's first four full seasons he has had 12 wins, 50 top fives, 74 top tens, and an average finish of 6th in the standings.
Yeah, Rusty whoops his ass....

Dang...that should be "five full seasons YET" not "left" and proofread that thing twice!!! lol
Posted by: J in PA | Aug 31, 2006 4:27:26 PM
Hey hey,
And I thought we wouldn't have Rusty to kick around anymore. lol
It is unfortunate that due 2 a rough season that we are banging our own fenders.
This should be healthy in the long run. Now we will find out what the team is made of. Will also discover who Ryans' real fans are. Taint' always easy, no matter who ya root for.
The spoilers were trimmed, tire compounds changed, new gear rule. They also set limits on camber and air pressures. As I understood, these changes were to help slow the cars and put results more "in the drivers hands". While these changes were the same for everyone, I really thought that anything requiring more driver imput would benifet both Ryan and Kurt.
Look for Ryan to get "dialed" in, and Kurt to quench our thirst.
Just maybe not this week.

You can always tell whoa driver's real fans are in a year like this, ou also getto see the "kick-em-when-they're-down" types like darklordwhatever. These are the ones who will tell you that just because of one year out ofhis career, Ryan is already a has been.
A team that has run as well as the 12 has over the past 5 years is entitled to an off year.
I know I haven't posted in a while but Trent, you guys are doing a whale of a job and I know the 12 team will be back stronger than ever. I'll be fan of you guys no matter the ups or downs that are Nascar racing! (As log as you don't switch to yoyotas!!!LOL!!!)
