Denny Cakes
By: Dennis Terry
Most teams head out to Loudon on Saturdays at noon for the New Hampshire race on Sunday. We end up spending the night in summer cabins around Lake Winnipesaukee.
Someone once told me this is the lake where On Golden Pond was filmed, so you can imagine how nice the area is this time of year.
There is always good food and usually a late afternoon beach party. If you make the right connections you can even get out on the water and do some fishing.
At DEI we don't fly out until Sunday mornings. We miss the fishing, beach party and Lobster Bisque at the Naswa Resort, but it is VERY nice to get all day Saturday at home to catch up on things.
The catch is we have to fly out at 5:00 am on Sunday. The three hour flight to New Hampshire seems a lot longer that early in the morning but it's worth it to me to get to spend Saturday at home.
I still look forward to the long flight because my wife always make my favorite traveling breakfast snack to tied me over on the plane.
Denny Cakes!
An invention from my college years when breakfast was basically whatever you had left in the kitchen from what the roommates left behind.
Elvis has grilled peanut butter & 'Naner sandwichs and I have Denny Cakes... for special occasions only.
As you can imagine by my larger than average physique, Denny Cakes aren't exactly the most healthy breakfast choice that you can make in the mornings.
What's the secret recipe? Well, there's not much to it. Just an extra large slab of liver mush, fried crisp and then sandwiched between two Krispy Kremes!
And Elvis thought that he was the king?

DT - That's just gross. But like the rest of your stories, fun to read.
Thanks and good luck!
PS: Is there a class that guys take while in college called" Gross stuff to eat 101"? Yours is not the first of these food stories I've heard.

Sorry about the day. How are your hands?
Is Martin okay after that hard crash?
Good Luck at Dover! I really want to buy a "Miles" figure. But, it has to be holding a #1 or #8 DEI car. So, Please help me out next week. Thanks.

Wow, Truex has to be one of the dumbest drivers out their, he came right across the track and took out 2 cars for no reason. No wonder he is trying to get out of his contract at DEI. Its amazing the how quickly things have gone south between Truex and Bono.

Uh Jack,
Stremme turned Martin into the wall. Speed into the wall shot him across the track and into the other cars. Martin was racing for position, and got punted by the #40 car. That was not dumb, just bad luck.
So back off.

Good job, mary4jrs8.
Jack, if you don't have anything nice to say, go say it somewhere else. Have some respect and only speak when you know what you're talking about!
Dennis, I was worried about your burned hands and tackling race cars, and then you have to explain what Denny Cakes are. You just ruined my breakfast! ;-)
I wish you and the entire DEI organization much luck the rest of the season. The bad luck your team is having has to end one day. Keep your head up and think positive. You have a lot of folks behind you!
Good luck at the Monster Mile!

Dennis,
Things have to turn arround soon for you guys. I have a question about Harvick and the tire thing. Would it only give them an advantage at short tracks or will it affect the whole program. And is it really that big of a deal? You are one of the very few that will answer questions, if you can't I understand. Thanks

Hey DT,
Keep lookin' up, as that cloud has got to clear. Would have to look very hard to find such a bad run of luck. It just has to get better.
Hang in, Do Dover

How could you spoil liver mush with donuts????
Posted by: clevelandcountyresident | Sep 18, 2006 8:04:28 PM
Okay, DT, once again I'm going to "bite" (absolutely no food pun intended) on this one. What in Hades is liver mush? A NC or ? regional delicacy? Who's or what's liver is utilized in this dish? Or is liver just a euphemism for Spam? Or not really liver at all? I am seriously thinking must be joking- a fried cholesterol-laden organ meat on deep-fried do-nut? I am like so going to quiz my CVICU pts tomorrow about this sam'mich. So far, it beats all their wistful remembrances of now-banned arterial slamming delicacies! And just what creates the "mush" part? Ya know, oatmeal is mushy too- and ever so much more healthier!

Dennis,
You just ruined two delicious Krispy Kremes. There should be a law against that. But I guess everyone has their food choices that might make others feeling sick. LOL
I am with everyone else on here that hopes the bad luck will go away. I know it has to be frustrating but you have fans that will stick with you! Good luck in Dover :)

a buddy of mine at ganassi said at their monday am meeting, stremme said he knew that we had fresher tires but martin had rubbed him way too hard for 2-3 laps and was sick of it so intentionally wrecked him coming off 4. just sucks that we are racing a low talent idiot like stremme for position at the end of a race

Thanks Ryan B. for the update. It looked like that on TV. Karma will find a way to get Stremme back.
Glad to see you back at the track, and recovered from your injury.
Thanks for all you, and Dennis, do for us Martin Truex Jr. fans.

SammiJo - I'm sitting here wondering what exactly "liver mush" is??? Real Mushed up liver fried crisp? It's just not sounding good at all..... so I'm going to have to vote for Elvis, sorry Dennis, I think the PB and naner wins.... Oooooooo!
Good luck this week..... I'm sorry yall are having such a rotten season... it'll get better!

I too was baffled by Stremme's lack of driving talent at the end of the race but not as much as the reference to livermush. I googled it and found he link below on wikepedia. I prolly would have et it until reading the ingredents. I like innards as much as the next guy maybe even more but I draw at "head parts". You got me thinking about some grilled sweatbreads, covered in grilled onions on a toasted roll with some Boetje's whole grain mustard.

Denny Cakes are for special occasions only? Like if you are a contestant on fear factor or if you want to have a heart attack right now and avoid the christmas rush.
