Lots to talk about
I ll start off by congratulating our front tire changer Ben Brown on his first child. He had a baby girl, Harper Elizabeth Brown, last wed. and had to miss the shootout. He'll be with us tomorrow for the 150's. The baby girl was 6 pounds 10 oz.
Now onto some racing stuff. Whats up with all the cheating by the big boys. It's one thing when you here about a low budget team that is trying everything they can to get every advantage they can. Now you have some big name teams that are getting busted left and right. Either way it shouldn't be happening. I personally think some guys pride them selves on how much they can get away with. The sad part is the driver and the teams suffer when they get caught cheating. They should send the whole team home when a you get caught cheating and see how well liked they are around the shop when they cant go racing. Not only are you letting your self down but hundreds of other people within your team. You probably will never eliminate the cheating aspect but if you punish lots of people for a fews mistakes it might deter some people from trying to get away with cheating. Well, thats about all from me.

I agree send the cheaters home, laod the car up on the hauler and take it back to the shop. If you start out the season 190 points in the hole it would send a message. I like how Jack ( I can't compete with Toyota) Roush's team got caught. I though his organization was supposed to be full of integrity. All 3 Evernham teams got caught? How stupid are they? I'm sure you guys know when someone is cheating, how much goes on that you can't prove?

I disagree with your idea for NASCAR to " send the whole team home when you get caught cheating...". It is NASCAR's job to check the cars and to make sure they comply with NASCAR's rules. It is each team's job to make their car(s) as "competitive" as possible. If this means submitting a car for approval in the hopes that NASCAR will not detect a possible violation, then I can't blame the crew chief , team owner or crew. Chad Knaus's rear window adjustment device last year is just one example of the great devices that results from the game that is played between the teams and NASCAR. This is just part of racing, always has been and needs to continue. As an Engineer, I admire the ingenuity that was displayed by Chad. This "game" just makes the whole thing more interesting and I hope it continues.

I don't think the question is "what's up with the cheating"... the question is "what's up with the penalties".
All four of those drivers need to sue NASCAR because the punishment is not consistent with the punishment handed out to Jimmie Johnson last year for a more blatant infraction than drilling a couple of holes in fasteners... Knaus engineered a piece of equipment that moved the back window of the car during the race!
This should really shut up all those apologists who don't think NASCAR kisses Rick Hendrick's butt. By the precedent set last year at this time, Riggs, Kahne, Sadler, and Kenseth should not have been docked points... Jimmie didn't lose points for Chad's cheating.

Trent
Congrats to Ben also!
I am as confused as anyone as to why these teams were cheating. They all are top 35 teams. You would expect non top 35 teams to push the envelope a little. Why these teams?
Posted by: Short Lady | Feb 14, 2007 11:45:00 AM
What should happen is if you get caught cheating you go home and are not allowed to race that week. END OF STORY. Not only that but lets say the 12 team (just as an example) gets caught cheating and isn't allowed to race they should then have to refund a part of the sponsorship fee they got from whoever is sponsoring the car for that race to compensate for the missed advertising. Do that a few times and see how long it is before Penske,Hedricks, whomever puts a stop to the cheating by their teams.

Goodbye Mikey , you piece of shit driver .

Trent -
I hope Waltrip gets suspended from racing for a year. Him and his dumb commercials. Best of luck to you and the 12 team. Hope to see a lot more lead lap finishes this year. Maybe even a win or two!

newman is fastes in Gatorade Duel practice so far. but they're only 18 minutes into the session

I can't understand why someone like Matt Kenseth, or the Evernham bunch would feel the need to cheat in qualifying either.
I can, however understand why someone in the position of Michael Waltrip would cheat. I don't approve of it and don't really care for him all that much...but he isn't secured in the race. I heard on our local news here out of Columbus, Ohio tonight that there was possibly JET FUEL in that part that was confiscated!!! Unbelievable. If they do find out that something like that was used, then the entire 55 team should be ejected...that's unreal and it's really helping make Toyota look good....*note the sarcasm*. Toyota's already got a big bullseye on them as it is, now it's going to be a little bit bigger. How far are these guys willing to go??? Hopefully these stiff penalties will make a team think twice before they try to pull another fast one.

Hey Trent,
Well, the gamble did not pay off. Why cheat? Last place pays a quarter million bucks for starters. Get to top 35 in pts. by the 5th race, for another.
Toyota suggested that it may be from the sealer they used in the engine. nice try.
Picture the Toyota meeting, where they discuss this additive to inhance fuel mileage and or performance.
Let's get Mikey to try it!

Good luck tomorrow and on Sunday, Trent!

I think Mikey did the right thing, he had a very slim chance of getting in the race and all this did was get him enough media coverage to make everyone forget about the earnhardt contract thing and that takes a TON. The Napa car has been on the screen more than the SPEED logo.

some of you are so full of gas.
1.you dont know who added the substance to mickys fuel..rouge team member..foe of toyota sabatoge? you and I at this point DO NOT KNOW
2. you dont know if micky knew about the additive.I dont think he would risk everything he has done PERIOD.
nascar is going overboard on the penalties..

Waltrip getting bitch-slapped is the best thing to come out of Speedweeks.

Some famous person once said: First, kill all the lawyers. Boy he got that right. Nascar's version is...before our premier race, let's throwout all the competitors. Who is running Nascar - the IRS - they are experts at dictating convoluted rules. Why all the thousands of rules. Want to poke holes in your wheel wheels? Go ahead. Want to let air leak out of the "trunk"? Go ahead. If it wasn't illegal in the first place teams could do it or not do it. As long as everybody is treated the same who cares. Its NASCAR and their "thousands" of unnecessary rules that ought to be embarrassed, not the teams. Is there any truth to the rumor that Richard Petty will be suspended for 3 races because he was caught over trimming his mustache?

Congratulations to Ben & Wife.
With the way that NASCAR has been getting stiffer on penalties for infrations. It's really hard to understand why some of these teams would risk it. Hard tellin what they are thinking. So......I'm just not going to guess. lol, lol.
But, I do have to say that in most of these instances, I honestly do not believe that the Driver knows something was done to enhance their car. JMHO.
Best of Luck to the 12 team.

Trent,
I completely agree and I said the same thing this time last year when the 48 of felon motorsports was busted.
Ironic that when it's Evernham and Roush there's a fine suspension and points lost, yet when it's Felon Motorsports no points are lost.
I think it's great the 55 was busted, but if Nascar wanted to take a serious stance the 55 should have been tossed out. Mikey claiming he knew nothing about this is bogus. He's the damned owner of the team.
Posted by: mike hunt | Feb 15, 2007 8:54:10 AM
I was hearing it was Sterno in Mikey's intake manifold, but the NASCAR guys yesterday told the press it was something "you can't get on the street corner" so "jet fuel" makes more sense except "jet fuel" is basically kerosene, which one or two mechanics in history have been known to use as parts cleaner... so now NASCAR mechanics can't clean parts before they put them on the car?
Screw it... until such time as NASCAR removes its lips from Rick Hendrick's butt I'll just watch the Force family dominate NHRA instead.

Some tape fell off and a few bolts that were fine last year now are unacceptable? What a stupid mess and the Nascar officials look like a bunch of jerks. Interesting that no Chevrolet teams were caught doing anything wrong. Compare the punishments from last year when the 48 team was caught to this year's infractions. You just know there is going to be an irony filled incident with Nascar making a blown call during a race that will be written off as just plain human error. I like what Ray Evernham said about having to ask about the legality of every nut and bolt. If I were Ray I'd be first in the inspection line next week and I'd ask about every piece on my car, nut, bolt, washer, sealant, gasket, fluid, paint, hose, wire, seat padding and take so effing long with my questions that I'd have the only car to get through inspection that day. It is Nascar's fault. It's their rulebook and if they don't want to leave it up to interpretation they need to get rid of the gray areas and start being specific about EVERYTHING.

Hey RC,
Sadly I admit that there was time in my day to see the press conference. Robin P. said when asked about "jet fuel" that it was not. However, 20min later on the Natl. news Katie reported that jet fuel was found in the car. Some ye-ha read part of the story and like we see so often in the media, Mis-reported the story.
It was cool to see Mikey make the race. I bet the 2 hundred thou could not have bought the exposure(ha) that Toy got.
Posted by: Larry | Feb 15, 2007 7:37:52 PM
it was more like 40min.
Posted by: Larry | Feb 15, 2007 7:39:05 PM
LOL, yep NASCAR (WWF on Wheels) just showed again that they are a complete joke.
Jeff Gordon's car was found to be to low, what is his teams penalty?
Nothing, Nada, Zulch, NASCAR just spit in every fans face, they said no penalty for the Pardoned Felon Rick Hendricks bunch.
Posted by: France Fries | Feb 15, 2007 9:33:22 PM
France Fries,
Come on Gordo the Pervo's car was under the minimum height because his team had an "unintentional misalignment of a bolt and a shock mount." Clearly Felon Motorsports (FMS) and Gordo the Pervo's team made a simple accidental mistake.
A simple mistake that lowered the height of their car by an inch and reduced the areodynamic drag on the FMS vehicle thereby
making it faster. That explains the run he had in the last 500 feet of the second duel.
Bravo FMS, you got away with another one. Some FMS apologists will say Gordo was peanalized by starting the race in 42nd. However, he is not going to lose any points, he has not been fined and he gets to keep the winners purse.
Thank you yet again for the amazing consistency, NASCAR....
