We're getting there
Obviously it was disappointing not win the race at Pocono. Our team hasn't won in nearly two years and that could have been the one. I'll give Gordon this, he knew, just like Newman knew, that there was only about a lap or two left before that race was over. I think Newman could have passed a lot of other drivers out there but Gordon is one of the best and he did what it took to keep the lead just long enough to get a win. Ryan came over and told us that he just about tried to pass with eight tires instead of four. He said it laughing and even Gordon had an idea Ryan would be racing him hard. Either way our driver took it in stride and handled with a smile. We ve got some momentum in our favor and we need to keep it going heading into Michigan. Another pole would be nice in helping our pit crew with the number one stall and also maybe getting the five bonus points for a lap lead. At this point we need all the points we can get to make the chase. I guess the only other thing from this weekend would be the fact that we pitted next to the 11 car and my good buddy DT was changing fronts on his car while I was running my mouth in the rear of ours. I remember the last stop of the day I kept trying to tell him and his carrier that we were doing 4 tires instead of two in hopes that he would tell the crew chief and screw up there call. We talked crap all afternoon and had a good time doing it. Thats about all for now. holla

It's good to see Ryan and the 12 team backing up your strong qualifying runs with strong race runs. That hadn't been the case for a while now. But you guys look to have gotten your act together and have been strong for two weeks in a row. No one knows what would have happened if the rain never came but it looks like you were poised for another top 3 run any ways. I don't know if you guys had anything for the 11 or if the 1 was better than you but you certainly would have fought them both hard. Any ways, it's good to see the 12 bunch running as good in the race as you do in qualifying.

Trent - Ryan handled the whole thing very well. He is alone in second-place drivers who show no irritation in their voice. That had to be a tough pill to swallow but Newman handles most track happenings better than anyone. He's a class act and NASCAR should market him more.
Plus the guy can qualify his butt off. Toyota should have hired him.

Let me preface with the fact I have NEVER been a Newman fan but he certainly changed my opinion this weekend! Rarely do you get to see such professional behavior out of a driver with a second place finish. Kudos to Ryan! It was truly refreshing.
I hear the Dodges are the ones to beat at Michigan! GOOD LUCK! PLEASE NO RAIN!

Trent - so very proud of you all and bursting with Newman fan pride. I for one have never given up on you guys - but it sure is a lot more fun when things are going good. Ryan showed so much class in all his interviews for someone who wanted that win so bad and was so close to getting it. Best of luck in Michigan.

I was disappointed, but happy at the same time with the second place finish. I probably would have accepted the 2nd place finish better if it was anyone other than Gordon or Johnson.
Anyway, alot of fans have called Newman a prick, but I think he proved how classy he was this weekend. Just about anyone else would have bitched and moaned about finishing second.

I don't want to get all "blubbery" here Trent but so glad to see the results from what ever changes you guys have made? I won't lie to you, we did loose a bit of faith in your team. I'm sure you can understand? Of course many will say the politically correct thing and swear they never gave up at all...yea right! 2006 had to make you loose a bit of confidence?
All we all can do is keep truck-in!
Good luck in Michigan old friend!

I was at Pocono, and we all screamed when the caution flew giving JG the race.
Then we looked down to turn 1 and saw an ocean - if they had raced down the frontstretch it would have been the biggest wreck ever seen.
Good job 12!

Hey Trent,
Would DT fes up if your imput changed their call for 4 on that last stop? lol
Good result. Great pit stops. Keep chasing the chase.
Kurt may be lucky that Sam's big car results have been off.

Way to go Trent! You guys rocked! Proud of Ryan and the Alltel Gang!!! I sure wish he could have pulled off that pass! I agree with the above, I never gave up on yall either but it IS alot more fun when things are going right.... but I know, yall feel the same way too..... there's some tough competition out there...... Lot's of luck in Michigan!

GREAT RACE RYAN AND TEAM 12!!
Like all true Newman fans I've never given up hope. Things are looking great and I'd love to see you guys continue to build on your recent successes. Just a few more seconds and Ryan would have been in the lead. Just a few more seconds....
Makes you wonder about the timing of that caution flag. Nascar's "Golden Boy" notches another win. (Yes, that's sarcasm) I'm sure many of you have the same thoughts on this one. It's not the first time that the timing of a caution flag has changed the outcome of a race, and it won't be the last.
Ryan truly handled that second place with the utmost of class. Just imagine someone like Tony Stewart in that same situation.
Now on to Michigan. I'll be looking for Ryan in the winner's circle. GO RYAN!!!

Ryan has always handled himself with class, we have never seen a pissy pants routine like Stewie or Gordo, and his parents obviously raised him to respect others and appreciate what he's been given. It's great that all the idiots that said Ryan lost or had no talent over the last 2 years have been silenced by our recent success (readers of this blog during those times remember what I'm talking about), and it makes his "real fans" enjoy his success that much more. So welcome back Bob, glad your not embarassed to admit your a 12 fan again. At least tell us which wagon you fell off of so we know where to put you back, I'm guessin' Kahnes super car team from last year...

I'm with MoparDave - as a TRUE Newman fan I never gave up hope. I don't believe the Newman fans gave up hope either - but I choose NOT to speak for them - unlike one person on this blog (BOB).
The 12 Team has it going right now and I believe a win is around the corner. I couldn't be more proud of Ryan right now after Pocono. As eveyone else has said, he handled himself with class.
GOOD LUCK AT MICHIGAN!!!
Happy Father's Day to all you Dads!!!!!!!

I told a reporter at the end of the '05 season that Ryan was the one to watch in '06. I was a year off. The comeback is sweet.
The blogosphere is buzzing with the notion that Ryan got robbed by NASCAR's yellow flag. I agree. We fans aren't handling that as well as Ryan did. Kudos to him. And to the #1 pit crew in the cup series, proven by the recent challenge, kudos to you too.
Posted by: Carol | Jun 13, 2007 9:52:50 AM
I notice every where I go there's good old JeninIL voicing her opinion and kindly bashing me? She must have a bug up her butt? But, you are entitled to your opinion. I can't help it you post at 30 different Nascar sites....please get a life!
Mopar Dave,
I never fell off the wagon? Where did I say that? I said a lot of us lost a bit of confidence in Team 12, how could you not? I know, it's cool to come on a blog and give people hell. It's one of the pit falls of the "drive by" internet. Everyone's looking for a internet fight for what ever reason. I guess it's some kind of personality flaw?
You both can holler back because I will not respond back to ignorance! You can have the last word!

Hi Trent, like the title…. “We're getting there”.
It says a lot. Very proud of Team Alltel. You have never given up, keep improving, and keep digging. The hard work is paying off. Things are starting to turn around.
It was another great run at Pocono for Team Alltel. As always, Ryan showed me again why I’ve always been a fan of his. His honesty, sportsmanship, on Sunday screams…..CLASS Act all the way!
As Always…..Best of Luck in Michigan.
Happy Fathers day to all the Dads
And now onto ……Bob. IMO, I think it is you who has it backwards. You are the one who goes from site to site “bashing” other Newman fans and making such careless, inappropriate, common statements that imply you are speaking to or about us all.
THEN you actually have the nerve (when people call you on it) to act like all…..What ? I didn’t do nothing, poor me. Wah Wah Wah….Etc. Well Bob, your act isn’t fooling me, and you’re probably not fooling some others too.
I read what you wrote, and here you did it again………Let me point it out to you, so you MIGHT understand what it is some of us Newman fans are getting annoyed by….. “I won't lie to you, we did loose a bit of faith in your team”.
No Bob…..Not WE….you! Do us a favor and and yourself……STOP speaking on behalf of all Newman fans. Speak for yourself. Like many others here. I am perfectly capable of speaking for MYSELF.
See….and then you go add garbage like this to add even more insult…… “Of course many will say the politically correct thing and swear they never gave up at all...yea right!”
IMO,………..from what I’ve seen and read. It is you BOB that needs to GET A LIFE !!!!!
Posted by: Ann | Jun 13, 2007 12:04:16 PM
Bob you are SO sadly mistaken...I do not post at 30 different sites and I'd like to see you prove it.
Bashing you...this would be a first for me. I choose not to have internet fights. They prove nothing.
"bug up my butt" You wanna get personal...don't even start.
Get a life? You should talk....at least I can go to races and have friends.
Oh and learn how to friggin' type will you or at least learn the difference between a sentence/statement and a question. Your CONSTANT use of the question mark is extremely annoying and gives you away.
Posted by: JenInIL | Jun 13, 2007 12:24:06 PM
Bob,
Maybe if you learned to speak for yourself instead of the masses (we, us,tell us) you would get less grief. And you might want to reconsider your slap and run technique. You slam someone and then say you will not respond again. And PLEASE save some question marks for the rest of us OK??
:D

You go girls.
Posted by: Larry | Jun 13, 2007 8:35:29 PM
lmao.
Yeah Trent, you sure are getting there, and hats off to all the guys that are pulling long hours and double-duty to do it. You had a lot to overcome and the come back is with style and class.
Posted by: Yoduman | Jun 13, 2007 11:00:36 PM
Great job by the team at Pocono, Trent. I loved watching the ballet of the 12's pit stops in person. You guys are just really consistent performance-wise of late. Kudos.
Continued luck this weekend at MIS.

All I have to say is...
I sure am glad My name is not Bob!!
BTW...Congrats to the 12 team for a strong run at Pocono.
Posted by: Kevin | Jun 14, 2007 12:57:49 PM
Wow Kevin!
I set the hook and look who took the bait? Never fails! You're only seeing the true side of these "clique driven" mean spirited people! It's the same people coming to there blog rescue week in and out......very sad!
Oooops, I said I would let you have the last word, my bad!
Sorry about the blog "clog" Trent...........
Posted by: BOB | Jun 15, 2007 10:16:01 AM
HUH ??, BOB
Hmm...."bait". Now doesn't that just sound like a childish thing to do. Talk about "mean spirited"!
IMO, I Think those that wrote about you above are right. Sounds to me like you're the one who is mean, insulting, insensitve, rude, and possibly a bit jealous of others.
Why don't you just act like an ADULT and have a real conversations with people instead of wasting your time (and ours) trying to deliberately "bait" people into arguments. You might find that you could actually make friends that way. Then you wouldn't have to be so jealous of those that do. What a joke....lol, lol, lol.
Posted by: Run!!....Bob Is NUTS !!! | Jun 15, 2007 12:13:26 PM
Hey Bob,
Not funny. These girls Ann & Jen contribute reasonable content in this space. You however, seem to be trolling for attention. Consider this confirmation of you just being a jerk.
You are right about one thing, very sad.
Posted by: Larry | Jun 15, 2007 2:14:31 PM
Hey Trent/DT,
Got distracted a bit.
Stopped by to see if either of you see the availablilty of Shrub or Biffle affecting your teams/organizations?
Yates said he would like to have both the Busches. Would like to see Mr. Penske help that happen. Then put Biffle in the 2 car.
